I have never encountered a hairy nectarine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peach#Nectarines
Quote
The nectarine is a cultivar group of peach that has a smooth, fuzzless skin.

Dagnabbit, I had it confused with apricots. I've recently had a bunch of different types of fruits crammed down my throat. "Just try it, you'll like it!" No. No, I don't like it, and I didn't like it the last time either. The shock and trauma from the torture session has left my brain jumbled, making all fruit look the same. Yeah...that's the ticket...
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Does the Vegetarian Trait affect anything besides food choices? on: 2009 July 02, 09:16:56
Mmmmmm   Veins and globules.
As disgusting as the concept is, that comment cracked me up.

Why the hating on nectarines?
Zazazu said it best:

Fruit should not be hairy.

You peel kiwis? I just eat the whole thing skin and all. It's really no different than the skin of an apple.
I can't say I've ever come across an apple with straw-like hair growing out of its skin. Something like that would just prove the evilness of hairy fruits, as it would mean they're trying to breed out the smooth-skins. It could be the first step in a dastardly plan to amass an army of hairy fruit to take over the produce aisle. Next step: world domination! It could happen...
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch released. on: 2009 July 02, 09:06:36
Because I have nothing better to do right now at 4:30am, I'll go through it.

The latest version of Pescado's Awesomemod will not work without the latest patch from EA?
Correct. Pescado has already answered this question, probably more than once, but I only caught it the first time. Also, the information is on the Awesome Mod download page that the patch is now figured into the mod.

Quote from: Audrey
If that is the case, I need to download a version of the patch in order to have my game speed up and also to access Pescado's latest hacks?
Correct. You need to bring your game from whatever version you have to 127.

Quote from: Audrey
Checking in the .sku file I have version 615 of the Sims 3.  I bought my game in South Africa.
This, I believe, is partially why no one has answered thus far. I, myself, have seen perhaps only one other mention of a version 615, and no patch links were involved. It's my understanding that your best bet is to go the official route and ask your regional customer service about the problem. If all else fails, succumb to the evil of the launcher and pray for the best.

Quote from: Audrey
Please can somebody guide me step by step through what patch I need to download to get it and awesomemod working in my game.
That's not likely to happen, for the reason mentioned in my above statement, and because if the information is available, it's already in this thread or another.

Quote from: Audrey
Editing to say that if I can't get the patch working after someone kindly directs me on what to do, then how do I get the previous version of Awesomemod back assuming my first sentence is correct.
The only way to get an earlier, unsupported version of Awesome Mod is to hope someone else has been saving them all along and is willing to share with you.

Okay, I know I am officially nagging, but my questions were phrased in such a way as to give yes, no answers, except about the patch download.
You didn't get them because all of the answers you requested are already available.

Quote from: Audrey
My next problem is that I reinstalled awesomemod pre patch version because I couldn't use the most recent version because I need help to install the patch.

I went into showconfig to see all the options.  I want to enable the CAS slider range so I typed in EXACTLY what the code was followed by the : True and it came up with 'unknown command cassliderscaleincreased.  So then I tried itwithout the : and it still came up with the same error message.
You stated this a little too vaguely to truly describe what's happening. Did you actually type out "setconfig cassliderscaleincreased true" and it came up as unknown? My problem with typing in the commands is that I almost always put an extra 'S' at the end of "cas", resulting in error. If you've ruled these common issues out, it narrows down the possibilities. It helps potential repliers offer viable solutions if they know what you've already ruled out on your own. Also, give exact version numbers, like 1.0.615.00003 instead of just "615", as I can't imagine most would know every region number available. On occasion, it also helps to know what operating system you're running, so people can provide you with "step-by-step" instructions that actually pertain to your setup.

Quote from: Audrey
Could anyone kindly enlighten me as to what I need to do to fix this problem.  I really need the facial sliders.
I had to chuckle at this, because it seems that asking someone to do something "kindly" almost never results in a kindly done action. Especially not here. Shame on you for being so demanding!
4  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: How can we de-lard fat townies? on: 2009 July 01, 19:55:44
Have you tried having him do strength workouts on the weight machine?

I hadn't made him work out at all, for fear he'd lose the ice cream blubber. I did, however, play around with a clone of him in CAS, and adding muscle without sliding the fatness up at all left him looking odd-shaped and still scrawny. I'll try out strength-training workouts in the game, though. With any luck, maybe it'll balance it out by itself with a good chub to beef ratio.
5  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Does the Vegetarian Trait affect anything besides food choices? on: 2009 July 01, 19:48:27
Well, some vegetarians aren't vegetarians because they want to save animals. Like myself. I just hate the taste of meat and the texture of the fat globules and strings. I still like the flavor. I can't process the real stuff well, anymore, as I found out when I tried some pepperoni on a lark.

Strangely, I'm a lot like this. Most of the things I don't like are because of texture, leaving taste a moot point. What amused me was that you used the term "fat globules", which is the exact reason I give when people ask why I decline things like sausage. Chicken wings, legs, and thighs are nasty because of the veins and slime. Though I'm not a vegetarian because I also dislike most vegetables. They're usually cooked and that means mushy to some degree or another. Fruit is another food group rife with texture troubles. What's up with peaches? It's like chewing a felt ball or biting into a baby head.

Hmm...it's a wonder I haven't starved to death by now.
6  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Pattern textures messed up on: 2009 July 01, 17:01:37
That's an odd problem to have, especially with just one particular category of patterns as opposed to all of them. Have you tried deleting your caches, or maybe replacing files with the default ones from your CD (or the ISO if you went that route)? It sounds weird, but you could also try changing the screen resolution, then putting it back. I've had something similar to this happen in another game and I banged my head against the wall for days before I ended up changing resolutions, purely by chance. When I put it back, I found the problem had resolved itself.

Penis trees? Awesome or DNW? I really don't know.

One may be indecisive on that particular part, but you can bet there would be an immeasurable amount of interest in bushes full of boobies. The pervs.
8  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: How can we de-lard fat townies? on: 2009 July 01, 16:39:32
It's interesting that this method has worked to make fat townies thin. I actually saw Judy Bunch drop a considerable amount of wait jogging on the treadmills in the gym. Unfortunately, I'm having the opposite problem. I made one of my Legacy sims marry Cycl0n3 Sword, making him a permanent part of the always-active family. I knew he was thin, but upon closer inspection, I was horrified by his anorexic physique. I'd read a passing comment around here somewhere around how someone's sim was "getting fat", so I put two and two together and started feeding him five or six ice creams after his dinner. It beefed up his chicken legs to normal size, and I thought all was well. By the next sim day, he was back to staggering around on toothpicks, though he'd never exercised in any form or had his Hunger bar drop below half at any point. I tried twice more, feeding him tons of food to fatten him up to an average size, but he'd just keep going back.

After a while, I gave up. I figured he'd eventually die, taking his stupid name and eating disorder with him, but his twin daughters seemed to inherit his stick figure, along with massive heads from who-knows-where. There is no way I'm going to raise and/or play through a generation with bobble-head sims, so I may just drown them all and have my sim marry and spawn with a nice round porker from town, or maybe that nice fireman NPC that put my sim out before she crispified. Fat to thin may work, but forget about the other way around.

9  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch released. on: 2009 July 01, 15:58:54
I've just checked the identical twin computer to my own that kept getting the "wrong version" message when trying to patch. As it turns out, the registry entry didn't alter itself, it was just never created. It didn't even bother with an empty folder. After exporting my own entry and inserting into the other computer's, the patch worked just fine. I'm going to chalk this up to another instance of Vista deciding what I can install and where, though it doesn't even have a clue as to what it is. Maybe those load screen crashes will stop now.

For reference, I'm talking about the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sims\The Sims 3] entry.
10  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: They can autonomously cheat. on: 2009 July 01, 09:25:54
...
He is Jon Lesson in Riverview. His traits are Artistic, Hopeless romantic, Charismatic, Virtuoso and Great Kisser.

Now why on earth does he autonomously flirt with all and sundry (all ages and gender, mostly with incompatible traits) when he has a wife who shares 4 out the 5 traits with him and a very high relationship and a new born son taboot ?

From a story perspective, I think Jon Lessen is confused about his sexuality, which probably puts him at odds with his quaint little home life and his innermost feelings. I say this because I start many neighborhoods for various reasons, and each time with a new Riverview, Jon Lessen has ended up sharing his home with a man. The first time I noticed this, Lucky Perkins had pulled into his driveway and went off to bed. Switching active families confirmed a very close relationship with the old coot. Another time, with my Legacy sim, living across from the Lessen compound made it easy to spot when Lee Chung moved in. Jon even gave Lee the Margaret Vaguester, which I know only because I subsequently stole it and it is labeled as such.

Maybe Jon loves wifey and junior, but he just can't help but want to experiment...with everyone.
11  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch released. on: 2009 July 01, 08:59:45
Alright, I'm no quitter, I'll play your game. I've read this thread, and I'm kind of at a loss...

Has anyone patched the "arr-vesion" 1.0.631.00003 (from what I've read, that's the pirated retail version from some part of Asia... Definitely wouldn't have installed an Asian version if I knew at the time, but the language is all English so I never noticed) I'll edit the registry, whatever I need to do, I just need to know *what* to do...

*EDIT: I'm running Windows XP, and the text file that came with my version says nothing about Razor or Reloaded.

Finally, someone else who has the same version I do! I'll tell you first that I did manage to patch the game with no trouble at all once I followed Pescado's instructions (in the Awesome Mod download thread) on changing numbers in the link for whatever version you need. Unfortunately, on an identical twin computer, with an identical install of the Sims, the patch refuses to work. It continues to give the error message that the version is incorrect, despite the skuversion.txt file being the same as mine. I came here to lurk for help, so I'll be checking the registry of the other computer as soon as I can, with great hope that somehow it altered itself.

For reference, I'm running Vista 32 on both machines, sp1, I believe, though I've no idea if there are any others. As a note of interest, the computer having trouble with the patch also suffers the random load screen crashes while the easily patched computer has never been so unlucky.

ETA: The reason I think the no marrying rich Sims rule is stupid is not because it's hard to find one that isn't rich, it's that just because your Sim identifies another Sim as being rich doesn't mean that Sim will bring in oodles of money when married in. I've married in tons of 'rich' Sims that brought in only 1-2k. It's a pointless rule.

I partially ignored that rule myself. I started in Sunset Valley, where the Roomies household is. Every one of them is "rich", but I managed to have my sim woo and marry Cycl0n3 Sword (with a subsequent number-to-letter name change) without ever finding out that he was rich. That wasn't easy. He brought in only a little over $2k with around $1k in tax breaks and benefits. Hardly a pot of gold. It's silly that a house full of people who aren't related by any means and actually call their household "Roomies" would be considered rich just because they have enough bedrooms to fit everyone.
13  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 June 23, 21:49:56
I'm trying not to panic because my founder Ruby is 1 day away from turning to Adulthood and still doesn't have a partner. She/we wasted time on cultivating Beau Andrews only to find out that he is involved.

Break them up!

I agree. With the slim pickin's in the male population of Sunset Valley, I say it's every woman for herself!

...
Roofs? I just had a bed, one wall for the toilet, the toilet & shower for the longest time.

I'd actually originally had just the bed, but I wanted more a tent-like feel to it. The best I could do was a few columns and a roof that kept disappearing every few days when "auto-roof" would magically re-enable itself.
14  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 June 23, 17:57:43
It's interesting to see how differently people are starting out with their founders, and what they set as priorities on which to spend the initial $1300. I've noticed in many of the posts here that it's common for most of us to want to start out with some form of enclosed structure in which to put furniture. I actually tried that on my first attempt at giving my founder something to call home. After the 3x3 room for a bathroom was erected, I had no money to put the actual facilities and a door too. When I realized that all the amenities, save a proper bed, are available throughout town, I decided, instead, to go with this:

Turns out that made it far more challenging and fun. The canopy wasn't really even needed, but I liked the aesthetic effect for my story of a runaway carnie with dreams of rock stardom. For my own amusement, I added story-type rules, like restrictions on when she could go to the gym to shower. I reasoned that she couldn't possibly afford a gym membership (the place looks like the swanky type to require one) so she'd be sneaking in during the off-peak hours after dark. She just harvested crops from around town and ate them right out of her backpack, or went to the park and scarfed only the abandoned, half-eaten plates of food, in true hobo fashion. Eventually she ended up with her own 2x2 bathroom, because going all the way to the gym wasted a lot of time, and a small set of crops for food.

It wasn't until she got married that I bothered to stick the bed inside a structure, which even still contains only a fridge, one counter, and a sink. Everything else stays outside for now. They'll probably live rough until her husband gets a few more promotions or raises, seeing as she doesn't make much money as a roadie, and soon she'll be having babies.

15  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The fridge of eternal stench on: 2009 June 21, 17:56:22
...
Move in a townie and then move everybody but the townie out. I think the townie will be left with the fridge contents and your Sims can go on with their lives.

This is an hilariously devious solution, which I must applaud.

As for a more boring possible solution, have you tried hiring a maid? I can't remember if they normally clean out the refrigerators, but it's worth a try. Alternatively, you can try switching active households and then having your new sim visit the house with offending fridge to see if your original sim cleans it up on their own.
16  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Sim-painted portraits are a red, grainy mess on: 2009 June 21, 17:48:37
I think it's a case of stupidity and ego running rampant. They probably tested out the portrait-painting feature, got the same results we do, but thought it looked good and artsy. I envision a lot of high-fiving with oohs and ahhs. "Wow, doesn't it look like a real painting? I'm so awesome. Let's make it a feature so everyone can see my filtering genius!"
17  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Sim-painted portraits are a red, grainy mess on: 2009 June 21, 15:33:19
I think it's supposed to be "artistic" in style, instead of the nice photo-quality paintings we had in TS2. My sim has maxed out Artistic skill and ended up with the monstrosities below. You're lucky that yours came out bright enough to tell what they are. It seems to zoom in and out as it pleases as well. I set up the shot of the daughter playing chess to include part of the table and her upper body. In the resulting painting, you can't tell what it is unless you already know what it's supposed to be. For the toddlers, I set the camera exactly the same to get mostly just the upper body. The results would be almost obscene if you could even see them.

Oh, the kids look blue because they are. They take after their alien mother with blue skin and green hair. Maybe that's why their portraits are all grainy. We can't be having clear evidence of aliens lying around!

18  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Family ties not setting right out of CAS on: 2009 June 21, 15:02:59
I normally make just one- or two-member families, so I hadn't encountered this before, but one way it seems to break is when relationships are set in random order. While I was making a six-member family, I noticed the breakage while using the Edit Relationships button at the end of the creation process. The problem started after I'd made four Adult children and their Elder mom. I had already set their relationships when I decided they should have a dad in their family tree too, even if I was just going to kill him. That's when it messed up.

Dad was set to spouse with mom just fine, but none of the kids were related to him, so I dragged and dropped each one onto him. Only the last one set to "child of" would become his son/daughter, reverting the one before it back to "Housemate" of both the parents. The lines that connect everyone in branchy fashion showed the difference, as the designated child was separated to the left by a large space, even though they were all still siblings. I went round and round dragging and dropping, but it just didn't help.

Finally I just finished the family and stuck them in the game, hoping the relationships would magically be corrected. The mom was related to the two boys, but they were strangers to each other and their sisters, one daughter was related to only the dad though she was a housemate to him, and the other daughter was a stranger to everyone. The only thing it seemed to keep in tact was that the two elders were married. I tried using the Awesome Mod to fix the relationships, but no options for sibling or child appeared.

Luckily I always save sims in the bin, for just such occasions. I remade the family from the bin, added "man" to the end of the original last name of "Zimmer" to avoid any other issues, and set their relationships. First the spouses were set, and then I dragged each child onto the dad. It set up the relationship to the mother and each sibling status on its own, and they all remained intact in the game.
19  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Wishes for Book Reading: Which books are which? on: 2009 June 19, 14:51:17
Invalid wish is completely right. I sat that child sim down and had her read for two and half days straight, including all of the books available in the library. Mind you, she doesn't have access to certain books, like toddler stuff and skill books, because of her age, but nothing fulfilled the wish.

I'll gladly right-click to cancel these wishes from now on, but I am still wondering about the Painting one. At least there are vaguely labeled books for that topic. No luck yet on getting the wish to read a Painting book, though.
20  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Wishes for Book Reading: Which books are which? on: 2009 June 18, 21:04:11
I just popped into the game to check out the suggestions. It turns out I had purchased every book in the children's section of the bookstore when the girl was born, but they were forgotten and never read. Every book in the children's section is unreadable except "Where's Bella?" and "The Adventures of Raymundo"; the unreadable ones are grayed out when clicked directly and missing from the "Read..." menu when clicking the bookcase. Just to check, I had her read "Stragedy and Other Messterpieces", which made the choice for "Illustrious Author" as the lifetime wish pop up, but didn't fulfill the "Read a Book About Writing" wish. Afterward, I forced her to read everything from "Abstract with Turkey" to "On the Margins" to a book her grandfather wrote called "Warp Factor Infinity", all to no avail.

As far as I can tell, she's read at least one book in every listed genre, and still has that infuriating wish sitting in the window, mocking me. Since I've come this far, I'll enable the motives lock and just have her read non-stop, starting from the top of the bookstore list. Once I'm sure she's read every book (excluding, obviously, sim-written ones), I'll be willing to throw in the towel. I don't have a sim with the "Read a Book About Painting" wish, but if it pops up again, I'll do the same thing. I'll keep an eye out for them at all ages, too, in case it is as I suspected earlier and just a case of getting the wish too early or too late in life.
21  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Wishes for Book Reading: Which books are which? on: 2009 June 18, 16:13:53
For the past few real days, I've had this child-aged, Bookworm sim with the wish to "Read a Book About Writing". For my sanity, I just cannot seem to find a book about Writing for her to read. She's starting to annoy me. I've had her read most of what she's able to, but alas, the wish remains unfulfilled. I considered that it could be, perhaps, an overzealous child wishing to do something her age does not permit, but I encountered this problem with her grandfather and mother, too, who both wished to read books about Writing and Painting respectively. I abandoned those intellectual pursuits for Athletic training at the time, due to not easily finding the books and having other plans for those sims.

Does anyone know which book titles count for the "Read a Book About..." wishes for Writing, Painting, and...I'm thinking there's another one, but perhaps not. Through my web-searching, I've seen the lists of the books available at the bookstore and their costs, genres, and such, but it seems no one else has had this problem, or at least hasn't written about it.
