TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: No Autonomy Mods: Bar, Guitar and Cooking

The only thing is I like the husband of my sim to auto do it (he needs the practice) and not mine as she is fully trained. Individual settings? Do not if it is possible in Sims 3 but in 2 we could buy tv's that were non autonomous along side the auto ones.
Currently this is just a global change to the one guitar in the game. I'm sure once people start introducing custom objects to the game that someone will make a separate guitar that is non autonomous so that you can have both. Certainly the personal inventories make it possible to have different guitars for different Sims. Though I do like having one sitting in a room on its stand as part of the decor, too.

Will this affect guests?
I have had guests at my party who were in my active household before I split to one of the childs who had a guitar in her inventory when invited to my house for a party she brought the guitar and was playing it (even though my sim I controlled also was trying to play)
It should - it's a change to the guitar object itself. However, see my note about "Performing" - if someone is inclined to perform (rather than play) at a party, this mod won't affect that simply because I wasn't sure if Sims did that enough to be annoying. Or if they even did it at all.

Three (and a half) little mods.
1. No Autonomous Cooking, Snacking or Leftovers
There are two files in here. Unlike most mods, these CAN be mixed and matched. You DO NOT have to select one. I did them this way so that you can customize the behaviour you want:
A) To completely control what and when your Sims eat, use both. B) To let them cook and snack at will but keep their mitts off of the leftovers (e.g. Ambrosia stored for chosen Sims), just use NoAutonomousLeftovers. C) If you are sick of them making fresh meals when there's tons of perfectly good leftover food slowly going to waste, use NoAutonomousCookingOrQuickMeals.
If you block all food and have a bar, you'll want my NoAutonomousDrinks package, too, to prevent them from living on a steady diet of drinks. Probably compatible with cooking timing mods, though I haven't checked them all.
2. No Autonomous Drinks From The Bar
Sims will neither have individual drinks, nor will they make a tray of drinks, unless you tell them too. Why? Because it's stupid to sate your hunger with "juice" when there's a plate of pasta two feet away from you on the counter. Also, the no automomous cooking mods are a bit silly if they just drive Sims to drink, as it were.
3. No Autonomous Guitar
I hate that guitar's stupid guts. Now, Sims will only play when you tell them to. Does not interfere with autonomous performances, since I have never seen a Sim perform autonomously. If it's an issue, it could be added.
This is the first time I've packed up my own little tweaks and fed them to the world. If they aren't working as expected, please let me know and I'll try to find a fix. I have tested them, but that sure as hell is no guarantee of anything.
Edit: NOTE: Supreme Commander trumps no autonomy (I guess since under SC, they aren't autonomous, they're being told what to do just the same as if you told them), so Sims left under control of SC will not starve to death.

FYI, Jonha at MTS did the same thing, and I had a mod of my own I'd done a couple days ago. Small XML changes are dead easy, so we'll probably see a lot of this. Should make some good fights, like with the original no-censor hacks.
Might be some good fights - but there's also the potential for a lot of subtle differences to agree with everyone's playstyle. I have Jonha's, but I didn't like the other changes in it (water breaking, changes to the odds) so I cracked it open to reset some of that stuff, and I used to longer pregancy hack to find the defaults that Jonha had changed. But that one had OTHER things changed. So in my search for "how it should be" - here's this one. Hopefully those who have interesting ideas and are comfortable fussing with the XML will continue to churn out slightly differring versions of things, and we'll all be able to tweak our games until they're just how we like them. If it could be done without a lot of sniping and "you stole my idea" drama-bombs, that would be awesome, too. But so would bacon-flavored spinach and brocolli and I'm not holding my breath. Edit: This has me thinking that maybe it would end up being easier for people to each have their own packages in their Mods forlder, and then for mods to be presented as steps for editing the package, instead. Like mods for PHPBB are. So, for instance, the 50/50 pregnancy mod, rather than being a downloaded file, would be presented as: - Open pregnancy.package
- Find <kGenderOffsetPerFoodEaten value=".115">
- Replace with <kGenderOffsetPerFoodEaten value="0">
- Save and close
Then if there was another mod for pregnancy length, it would also just be its instructions, which would be performed on the same .package, eliminating conflicts.

That being the case, my observations were completely wrong. I apologize for taking umbrage and speaking out of turn.

A quick googling seems to indicate that Works can only open XLS files if they are limited to one sheet. I took out the extras and re-uploaded, so give it a try. Otherwise, there's a Google docs version that you can use, too. The formulas aren't protected on the Google version, so be sure to stick to the yellow areas when entreing data.

Not bad. It's a little huge and formatted oddly, but I wouldn't have thought of naming names. Also, not enough colors! You should see my personal spreadsheets. It's like a rainbow threw up on them. I do my family trees manually in Photoshop because I'm a masochist. This is my Riverview prosperity family tree: EDIT: You have Five-Star Chef and Creature-Robot Crossbreeder twice. Twice in my list of Lifetime Wants? I'm not seeing it. And yeah - now that I look again - it is huge. Those headers look like a child worte them with one of those fat pencils. I'm no-one's idea of a designer, that's for sure. I'll look at Google docs, too. I've never used it before. Edit: Woah. Google Docs is blowing my mind. This is fantastic.

I am just oen of them that fear ill mess it up deleting the wrong thing is all.
I'm not sure about how Open Office deals with spreadsheet locks, but you SHOULDN'T be able to delete the wrong thing. All of the fields are locked other than the ones for you to change.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Legacy Spreadsheet
|

I made this for my own use so that I could track my Legacy Sims's progress. My biggest concerns were remembering to do portraits of everyone, plus the 32(!) unique lifetime wishes. Anyway - I thought it might be handy for others. I'm not a spreadsheet whiz and this has undergone exactly ten minutes of testing, if you find errors let me know and I'll try to fix them. There are no macros to worry about, just straight-up formulas. Sample data for you to copy is included. Just fill in your own details in the pale yellow areas and it will add up your current score. I didn't include a column for 200,000 aspiration points. I'd make up a good reason, but the reason is that I forgot. If you do hit 200K, you could just add another line for that Sim and give them a second "Yes" under the 100K column. There is room for 200 Sims. Should be enough? It's Excel 2003, but since it's so straightforward, I don't think anything is stopping me from saving it as an older version, if someone wanted it. Edit: Re-upload only has one sheet, might be openable in MS Works. Otherwise, check out the Google docs version: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=r8sZ2UPrXEGMhkpQgldVF4Q

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss
|
on: 2009 June 22, 17:25:06

Not something I miss from previous versions, as it has never existed. But I miss it in that I wish it was in the game.
It just came to me while I was reading the requests in the AwesomeMod thread: Why on God's green earth does this ONE GAME, out of every game going, not allow us to bind our own keys? That seems so simple an oversight. I can see the idiot brigade screwing themselves over to the point where they could do almost nothing in game, but that's what the "Reset To Defaults" button is for.
For that matter, why can't I bring up the game menu by hitting ESC. And why when I type information into text boxes (like names for saved games) do I have to click that stupid checkmark icon instead of just hitting enter? It's these pre-school-style limitations that make me insane sometimes while playing.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3
|

Here is something to consider regarding stolen objects. Since the rules state the you get points for the net worth of the house and not the amount of wealth your family has acquired, then the stolen items that you place around the house are actually contributing to your points. This seems to be the exact opposite of what you would have if you would sell them, where you would have the cash, but no longer the value to add to the net worth of the house.
Sell them for cash, buy objects with cash... increase value of the house. I think even if you stole everything that wasn't nailed down, at the end of ten generations you will have so much legitimate money that the stolen items will be a small fraction of the total value of your house as compared to purchased items. However, I can't be sure of that, and I have a non-legacy theif who has come home four times now with a 12K statue in her back pocket, so it's hard to say. I know where the developer was going with the rule - it's for the first generation, to make them start slow. Riverview has a few accessible cars in driveways. If you started with a klepto Sim, you could be at well over 50K in cash at the end of your first day.

Having to random a trait without any rerolls is lame. Do badly and you end up with a random bad trait. Do well and you end up with a random good trait. Do great and you end up with... a random trait, good or bad... If nothing else, we should at least get to random until something "good" comes up (just make a list of what qualifies as "good") or give us one or two chances to reroll. I do LIKE random, but it doesn't make sense that you should be punished for doing great instead of merely doing well. That's kind of the point. In TS2 Legacy, you had to roll for aspiration and personality was always randomized by the game. You get what you get and you deal with it. Otherwise, you end up with a bunch of super-similar sims over 10 generations. Indeed. And the legacy challenge is already far more fun in Sims 3 than it was in 2. The random button for the traits is one of those "small, clever" things that you don't really notice. But it shows that the developers were paying attention to how we played with their game and to the games that we made up for ourselves. They saw that people were using outside-the-game tools to bring random chance to it, and they gave us a button. A button that I use even for my non-legacy Sims, though with them I will "reclick" if I truly don't like what I was fed. Zazazu - it sounds like our legacies have started out alike, right down to the pre-game genocide. I went the Klepto/Outdoorsy/Mooch route and it's fantastic. She doesn't have walls, but she has everything else she needs. The library is out of computers though - she stole them all before she grabbed a desk.

Have you downloaded the most recent Awesome Mod? Not this morning's, but the one from this afternoon. I had that happen to me, but while I was trying to reproduce it, the mod was updated so I updated mine (why try to reproduce an error with an outdated mod?) and Sims seem to be getting sane names again.
Edit: To answer your actual question: Editsim will allow you to fix it, and loading into CAS doesn't even take that long. In CAS the name will just show up as a manageable ***** ***** ***** and changes seem to be permanent.

Odd, it opens fine with 7zip, which is what I use. I could just upload the package itself, we're probably mostly competent enough to know where to put it without a crappy RTFM.
That's optimistic! Thank you for the .package - I'll let you know if anything unexpected happens.

Your .zip is making both Windows Explorer and WinRAR throw up. WinRAR's log is posted below. I've tried re-downloading with different browsers, saving to desktop and opening directly from the link. No go. I'm out of ideas (that didn't take long). ! C:\Users\infamy\Desktop\socialisedenergy.zip: Unknown method in betterenergygainnofreepretties.package ! C:\Users\infamy\Desktop\socialisedenergy.zip: Unknown method in RTFM.txt ! C:\Users\infamy\Desktop\socialisedenergy.zip: No files to extract
However, I'm excited about trying it out. It's an interesting take on the original bed issue. I like nightie's in that it allows my well-off Sims to have different beds, rather than the SAME BED in every room. However, the notion of keeping the moodlets but fixing the sleep length is a great one for up-and-coming Sims.

Not a hidden item, but an activity that I noticed today: Children can "fish" in swimming pools. It's a nice continuation of the toddler "play as learning" concept.
Edit: deleted inaccurate info regarding catchability of fish in pools.

The omniplant can be found at the Science Center in Sunset Valley (or whatever), but I haven't found it growing anywhere in Riverview, and haven't gotten the opportunity yet to get seeds for it. Has anyone found it in RV yet?
There's one tucked in a corner around the right-hand (front the front) side of the science bulding.
