TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: GUID Registry

Registering should also ensure that other people's stuff won't overwrite yours, so if you use other hacks/careers/object/etc. it's probably a good idea.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 327,670 Aspiration Points
|
on: 2006 December 01, 19:14:11

Note that the "0" is a red herring. There are no singular aspirational points. Internally, the game represents it as 32767 ASP, and the 0 is purely cosmetic, because apparently the idea of something being ONE point would blow the puny liittle minds of sheep.
Sort of like how the scoring for Quidditch is retarded, because everything comes in multiples of ten, when the point system could (and should) just be 1 point for goals, 15 points for the Snitch? That's always bothered me . . . Keeping track of aspiration points quickly gets ludicrous, anyway, because they're so easy to get.

Doesn't the mailbox option cause a new LotP to generate? That's a bad thing; you don't want your neighborhood getting clogged with zillions of wolves.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do YOU Pleasantview?
|

I also tend to play neighborhoods for, at most, three or four generations, and then drop it. Usually shorter. I save everything (or almost everything) though, so I have folders full of the wreckage of old neighborhoods. I just fiddle with things, and then leave them incompletely fiddled with to go mess with something else.
I played Pleasantview a little bit when I first got the game, along with the other premade neighborhoods. Never saved anything I did, because I'm neurotic about that. Then I fiddled with some other things.
Incidentally, did anyone else see the word "Tongue" inserted randomly in some people's posts?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Safely bringing in a preplayed family...

The problem with moving families between games is that they bring a garbage character file for every sim any family member has ever met with them and dump it in your character file. This is a problem because you can only have so many character files in your neighborhood before it goes "Boom!"

My LotP is "Widget," which makes zero sense. But Balin's not the only literature reference in the game, that I've noticed. One of the other wolves in my game is named "Alia."

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Toddlers' throw up fear

And don't forget the "throw a party" fear. I guess they probably just couldn't think of things the spawnlings would find scary, so they threw in a bunch of random, unfulfillable ones.
Of course toddlers can't throw parties by themselves, but those fears are fulfilled if another family member throws one. At least this happens in my game ... Really? Cool. I guess I never actually paid attention to it. So the fear isn't useless, it just has misleading text.

What is installing, exactly? I've always sort of wondered about this. Is it something beyond copying the relevant files? There has to be some reason why it's such a big production, but I can't really think of why. And if I could, it'd probably be wrong.

ASP no longer decays while meditating, so you'll be permaplatted. If you do it on an empty lot as, say, a vampire, though, you could potentially keep it going forever. And ever. And ever. So you can milk an unlimited supply of points at 4/day, meaning your score is effectively infinite. A puny, weak challenge from a puny, weak Rohina. At least Pinstar's new challenge required some cleverness to abuse.
Actually, your score wouldn't be infinite. It would be arbitrarily large. There is a difference. And infinity isn't very fun anyway. Can't get into an arms race with it, like you can with arbitrarily large numbers. And "arbitrarily large" is more fun to say.

I had a ghost who got all mad because I cleaned up his punch cup, from the pineapple keg thing.
Incidentally, does anyone know how that object marking thing works? I would guess that it's amount of time spent interacting with the object, which explains why beds tend to get picked, if the sim has a bed. How does the game keep track of that? Memory token? An obscure bit of trivia I've wondered about for a while.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: a real single parent

I've had exactly the same problem. I thought I'd fixed it by replacing the Pollination Technician files in the downloads folder, since they'd had all their internal bits removed and were just 1 kb blank shells, but now I'm having issues where the alien parent shows up in some neighborhoods and not others. Oddly, in the neighborhood that's giving me problems, at least one of the aliens does show up, but the others don't.
Note that this hack often did not work at all in Nightlife. At least in OFB it doesn't kill the abduction thing entirely.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Who's got some good names for Servos?
|
on: 2006 March 26, 17:24:05
|
Maybe I should add a command just for servos, "Destroy All Humans", and if they click on another sim (that must be a human, obviously), the option "Destroy" will appear.
YES!!! AMOK ON COMMAND!! Wooh. That would be awesome. So far, I've named robots "Andrew" (after "Bicentenial Man,"the short story, not the book or the movie, although the movie was pretty good for a robot movie . . . better than the I, Robot movie . . . but I digress) and "Eliza," after Eliza. In the near Earth short stories, the ones compiled in I, Robot, Asimov gave his robots letter-number designations, but the characters gave them a name based on that designation. So "QT" became "Cutie," and "DV" (I think. Something D, V may have been something else.) became "Dave." Or the characters would name the robots after their functions, so the really fast robot (curses, can't remember what the story was. Either "Runaround" or "Catch that Rabbit!" Possibly both; Asimov complained a lot about how editors would change his story names) was called "Speedy." Then in the Elijah Bailey novels, The Caves of Steel and sequels, robots had basically human names with an R. abbreviated from Robot at the front. Thus, R. Daneel Olivaw. So that might be the easiest naming configuration. Give them regular names with an R. intitial in front of it. R. Bob, R. Steve, er . . . something. Of course, there's always Martin.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: We interrupt your simming for a commercial.......

There's already advertising in TS2. It's just that all the products advertised within are currently fictitious.
And this is different from "real" advertising . . . how? Most of the stuff in commercials is implied things about the product that the product doesn't actually possess.
