TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Things NEVER done on Sims 3?

I'd like to see a simple family tree editor, one that lets me edit their family lines even with the deceased ones. All I have now is AM's genealogy tab, but that requires both sims to be alive, and works only for parent/child and sibling relationships. I'd like to be able to build a whole family tree in one sitting, without switching to another sim.

The new and fancy electronic gates are a nuisance with the stylist career, probably affecting the interior design career as well. My sim just keeps dropping the 'perform job' from her queue, so I have to manually make her go to the lot and use the call box at the gate, so I can get inside. Sometimes I even get some stupid message like 'there's nobody home', or even better, 'we don't know you, please go away'. So first they ask me to do a makeover, just so they can let me stand at their gate because THEY DON'T KNOW ME. This was during the work hours. I moved my first sims to a high rise, and so far they have never had neighbors, while every other building has. Can't remember if I plopped the building from the bin or not, but it was the only one where nobody had moved yet. Like, NOBODY. Not even npcs. The doors are correctly assigned as npc doors, so there must be something else wrong here. Maybe the whole building is bugged? The sims I moved there also seem to freeze randomly, so I have to reset them now and again. Also the paper gets delivered outside when living in a high rise building. This was mentioned before, but it's extremely annoying. I can unset the front door (by default it's the main entrance downstairs), but I can't set it to be my apartment door. And lastly, there's the issue with opportunities referring to commercial buildings that have been replaced in Bridgeport. I managed to complete some bistro related opportunity after I placed the Little Corsican Bistro in Bridgeport, but there's still many opportunities that need either Doo Peas or Town Hall etc. Haven't they tested this expansion at all? All in all, minor bugs and annoyances, but STILL.

The vampires seem to show up in mirrors, and that's just wrong. At least mine did, though it could be a bug too. Also the 'coffin' is kinda stupid, they don't really sleep inside, just hover on top without even changing to nightwear.
Other than these minor annoyances, I think the vampires are far better than TS2 versions. At least they don't have that stupid skintone that covered their makeup.

I believe there's no proper workaround for macs when it comes to decrapifying. Sharing the already decrapped files has is only a partial solution, as the files seem to bork somewhere between computers and the internets. I'm using a mini laptop with XP to decrap my files, it's a bit slow but does the trick. The other option is Boot Camp.
Dos emulators could work, but looks like no-one has really looked into it.

I have probably the exact same Mac as vorpal above, and most likely the same problems as well. I always thought that this was a quite nice laptop for playing, but with the maximum of 4GB RAM and the dreaded cider environment, all this just isn't enough. With a PC of the same specs TS3 should be running smoothly, at least it seemed to do just that even with my old PC rig, at 2GB RAM, a FX-60 2.6GHz cpu and dual GF 7800GTX's.
I created a new neighbourhood, imported my families from Sunset Valley, and looks like I have the same idling-till-death issues like before. So far I've had only a few pre-created townies drop dead, but it's only a matter of time when I have to start saving my own Sims from the Grim. Sometimes they seem to be able to do some things themselves, but it takes a while still. This problem wasn't around with Riverview, where I had only about 5 or 6 families to play. There were a few families I didn't touch and a bunch of townies too.
If only EA would port its games as native, instead of this wine based piece of crap that eats all ram in seconds. POO.

So, would the problem go away if the population shrinks? I noticed I had about 20 families of my own in the problem neighbourhood, and some townie families and npcs on top of that.

I've been having this same issue with Sunset Valley, Riverview has been working fine so far. Sims seem to just stand around at their yards, inside their houses or on community lots in swarms, doing nothing. They usually fail work and school, have the Stir Crazy moodlet (which happens even when they're not home), and all critical motives at -100. Then they expire and die. Which results in mass mourning, and other sims dropping all queued actions.
They can be saved from death with resetsim, though this results in other sims mourning like crazy whenever they see the 'saved' sim. Which is sort of annoying, as they have a habit of dying outside job related rabbitholes, which then leads to working sims dropping queues before, during and after work. So they have to be constantly watched over.
I believe it means the neighbourhood has become somehow corrupted, and Sims stand around for hours before taking any action.

I've noticed that with Supreme Commander set to trash digging, most of the less valuable stuff found disappears from the inventory when moving to another trashcan. I don't have the Hand of God mode enabled, so this seems a bit strange, like it's suddenly on with SC. Even though it's quite handy in deleting trash and old newspapers, it tends to delete all teddy bears, seeds and rubber duckies too.
This has been happening for a while now, at least with the test version. Can't remember it happening in the previous stable versions. Or is this a feature, not a bug?
edit: To clarify, this doesn't happen when manually digging trash, only when using SC.

I had to do a complete reinstall, some store content was borked and the game was really laggy. Installed everything, popped my saves and mods in place (no core mods, just AM + some packages, few hairs and patterns), and now most of the old rabbit holes (at least the school, city hall, science facility, corporate towers, hospital) have turned into parks. Previously it was only the school, just like people have reported. But now it's nearly every workplace, except the police station, grocery store, bistro and a few others.
When I went back to the game after reinstalling, the game told me the carpool for my Sim would be arriving soon. When I went to check his job tab, he was unemployed. So was his wife, who previously held a high position in the business career. They both rolled new wants for a career, so the game at least noticed they didn't have any place to work. As for the kids, the game still tries to send them to school.
This probably is the same thing that's affecting the school, but seems like it spread after the reinstall for some reason.

I tried the CFF Explorer too, fixed the files in Windows and moved them back to my Mac. Still freezing and crashing, again after about 2 hours of playing. This seems to be the actual playing time, and times when paused don't count. Can't be exactly sure though.
Also there's still this strange Sim lag, that seems to be somehow connected to changing clothes. Going for a jog, to work or to a shower all require changing, and my sims seem to have some trouble with it. They just tend to stand there for hours until they change their clothes. Does anyone else have this, is it EAxian, AM or connected to the crashing?

I've been having this issue too, from the annoying semi freezes where animations and sounds can be seen and heard, but nothing is clickable and so on. This usually doesn't last long and the game resumes by itself. This is sort of a sign of the absolute freeze coming on later.
Then there's the absolute freeze, where I have to force quit the game and hope that my last save wasn't too long ago. Usually happens exactly as I'm using a pop up menu, sometimes in CAS (plan outfit usually), changing game speeds, or sometimes just generally when the time is ripe for a freeze. Which happens to be around 2 hrs of gameplay. So basically if I look at the clock when I start, I'm able to save my game before it'll freeze. What could possibly go wrong in 2 hours that causes the crash? Also I've noticed significant lag in Sim actions, they could be staring the fridge for (sim) hours, before they start cooking.
I'm not even using Windows, I'm running this on OS X Snow Leopard. Which the game thinks to be XP apparently, since it's running trough cider, an emulator platform used by EA among others, so they don't have to do any new coding. And which of course eats a LOT of memory. Those lazy bastards. And my mac has Nvidia too.

Gahh. Looks like I'm stumbling over my own AM for Mac installation instructions, can't get this bloody thing to work Latest patch, HELS, newest AM (test version). And a Mac, obviously. AM didn't work after HELS, at that point I had mods/packages only in the WA folder, everything had worked just peachy before. So, the files should be somewhere else. Then I moved them over to the HELS folder, not working there either. Also none of the CC work, meaning they're in the wrong place too. I have tried the base game folder as well with no luck.
Tried placing the framework in all 3 folders, switched the Mods folder around, nothing seems to work. Copied the Mods folder in every 3 game folders and switched the Packages folder around, same thing. The game loads fine, doesn't get stuck anywhere, so no problem there.
I'm totally lost here, wtf has happened to this game edit: I take all this back. Turns out I had the Resource.cfg in the Mods/Files for some reason. I wonder how did it work with WA then, for all I know it was in Mods/Files all the time. Strange.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: If you REALLY want to use Launcher to install Sims3Pack with 1.8/2.3
|

blackgryffin: I ended up reinstalling the whole thing I installed the sims3packs before patching, so it's sorta semi-working now. I'm going to try this 'new' fix as soon as RapidShare will let me download (and there's new stuff to install). Also I noticed that repairing permissions and the whole disk with Disk Utility with the OS X disc improves performance greatly. Had to do this after reinstall, the game was unbearably slow and choppy. Now it works better than ever I suggest disk & permissions repair with Disk Utility to everyone playing on a Mac, works like a charm. (shove your OSX install disk in, reboot, press option(alt) while booting and choose the disk and so on.) I did it once by accident, and was surprised how much it had to do with performance. ..meaning TS3 will effectively mess up your whole beloved Mac.

Gahh.
I'm on a mac so I can't use the binary exe directly, so currently I'm going with the dbc option. However, the launcher really doesn't install anything anymore, which didn't happen before (even post-patch, I could install the new sets then, and they would show up with the dbc trick). Do the new sims3pack sets have something different? It says it installs them, success and all, but the items disappear from 'installed content' after I quit the launcher. So basically, even the dbc thing doesn't work now, as the items don't even go to the dbc packages.
As AM doesn't remove the disc check for macs (WHY IS THIS), and the launcher can't be used separately on this thing, I feel I have no options for installing these. Next I'm going to try with Roux's fix above, and then maybe with package files. I spent last night testing and cursing with custom dbc's, so they're out of the question.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Marriage in Family Trees
|
on: 2009 December 29, 17:10:33

I believe this has something to do with family trees being borked. I noticed the same thing on my game, no marriages show, even if they have kids. Some sims' family trees refuse to open up at all, others are fine until the previously proven-to-be-borked sim's face comes up. Then there's no fambly lines anywhere, just the lone sim in the middle of the tree. Even when he has parents and a wife and kids and all that.
At first I thought it might have had something to do with AM, now I think it's just an EAxian feature. They seem to be breaking this game more and more as the time passes.

Now, for my question. Is there a command in AM to reset borked genealogy? One of my Sims came back from vacation with his tree fubared. His spouse, kids, sister and parents all still show him on their trees, but I can't even open his at all. Help?
I'd like to know this too. Traveling seems to b0rk relationships and family trees, sometimes I get them fixed with AM's genealogy tool. Sometimes I wish there would be a 'build a tree from scratch' option somewhere. My trees and relationships are broken to the extent that some sims have multiple girlfriends/boyfriends and a couple of husbands and wifes on top. And they seem to change every time they get back from vacations.

Assuming the fast spoilage in fridge has been discussed, and even if not, I'm hoping it'll get fixed someday. It is teh most annoying thing, evarrrr. I noticed that while traveling, the other tourists are happy to eat your foods from the base camp fridge . This is most likely meant to be this way, though there could be an option for other tourists to eat their own foods only. So far they haven't even cooked anything on their own, they just keep eating my cookings. So that when I cook a group meal, feed it to my sims and put the rest in the fridge, it gets eaten while I'm not looking. Then there's the energy level gain from beds, I've been using various mods so that every bed would have about the same energy stats, but I'd rather use only AM. If this isn't an option yet, it should be And as for my constant weeping for AM's genealogy options , I'd like to be able to skip a generation (ie. assign grandparents etc) because the game killed off 2 of my favourite sims early in the game and gave me no tombstones Their children and grandchildren live on, but I'd like to be able to give them great aunts and uncles, like I had in TS2. I didn't have the chance to create these in time, there was no AM back then, so now I'm missing a whole generation. Aaaaand, if there would be even the slightest chance of resurrecting those sims the game killed off (those without their tombstones/urns), I would be happy to use it. They show up in family trees, so they HAVE to have some character files somewhere. This has not happened in ages, but there's still about 5 sims I'd like to get back, such as Mortimer Goth's parents. I tried creating them again, but couldn't assign them as parents as there was no way to remove relationships with dead relatives. (There seems to be an option now to remove ALL relationships which I assume to be those with their relatives, but that would mean extensive family tree rebuilding afterward.) I get a pop up that says: "The setup has detected that the installed game region for this update is incorrect. This update requires a different game region to be installed." Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Try googling the error message. It has been discussed and solved, and it has nothing to do with AM.

Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / The new AM with WA, on a Mac.
|
on: 2009 November 28, 16:34:12

Found this, maybe it'll get bumped on the first page. As the pictures in the first post say it all, I'm just going to add a quick guide for WA. If your game gets stuck in the loading screen, this is for you. You're just doing it wrong! First: DO NOT PANIC. It'll be okay. Second: You just have to download the new mod files (be sure to replace all the previous mod files, even resource.cfg, with the new files) and place them in correct folders. Except for d3dx9_31.dll. Remove the old one from the base game folder, and place the new file in The Sims 3 World Adventures.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 World Adventures/Game/Bin. There is a shortcut alias for WA in The Sims3.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts as well. If you use the config file, generate a new one with the configuration tool at http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ts3/awesome/config.php. Don't use incompatible (or rather ANY other) modes with AM, clean them out before launching the game. Custom content should stay in the Packages folder, they work fine in there. (Currently I'm still getting a 'version mismatch' error, which could cause the game to crash randomly, I'm not sure.)
