Fuck you EA. You didn't fucking patch my game to .17 and it's still on .0001. Fuck you. I'm on a fucking cruise and I have to download a bajillion patches which are hiking up my minutes on the interwebz. I hate you so much, you worthless sack of shit. I hope you go out of business. I did as you instructed and my gut tells me it's 99 percent sure it's coming from AwesomeWare, although I'm sort of wary as my much older, crappy, blue-pixelated display, laptop could run perfectly fine with my ARRed copy last month until the 1.3 patch came out. (couldn't install it)

It seems to happen with families of one more often, and usually it freezes at nighttime, which means I may just not have checked or did and forgot and it could've been 1 AM. But when I redownloaded everything back in, I noticed the freeze didn't always happen at 1 AM. Yup, I kept track of sim time. Also, the graphics are terribly ugly despite running smoothly on a high-everything resolution. It usually becomes more detailed after a minute or so though, so that's probably some unrelated glitch.

Basically, it usually freezes with the plumbbob still moving and the Sims' animations still on (for instance, they'd be frozen in time fishing forever) and I can move my mouse, but EVERYTHING on the game is absolutely unclickable. Then the last time, it completely fucked up and I couldn't even get into task manager to quit Sims 3. I also couldn't move my mouse. Wtf.


Note: I will change my game settings to that on my old laptop, as Window Mode could perhaps be borking it (doubt it...), or Indie Mod (not Core).

I don't know, because I immediately updated my game before even playing it for the first time. 

My laptop is a Toshiba t6500, if that helps.

When I had the ARRed copy, this never happened and I was also using an older laptop. After buying a rather expensive new laptop, I decided I'd also buy Sims 3 as I had a lot of problems with the ARRed one up to the point I couldn't uninstall it to properly update to the 1.3 patch earlier in the month.

I've heard of the 1 AM freeze, but this freeze lasts longer to the point where I had to close it via task manager... What. And also, the freezes don't happen at 1 AM, although it happens while it is dark so I'm unsure. I have the most recent patch and AM version update. I tried searching for this problem and didn't really find much information about this.

Is that the freeze where everything absolutely stops, except for the scenery and the plumbob? I have this problem, and it never seems to unfreeze.

Maybe you're right. I might be becoming unnecessarily paranoid. 

Unlike you, I have only started torrenting fairly recently because in the past, I believed that torrents could give your computer a virus. Obviously this isn't actually the case many times and when I did torrent Sims 3 I knew the basic walkthrough but... I guess I must have fucked something up. It's the only thing I can think of right now.

Yes, I seem to have been fucked. I'll simply download to my big computer because EA=cesspool of fucking fail. This whole incident concerning a minority (myself included, as many ARR'ed copies are still intact and playable by others?) makes me honestly wonder if EA /has/ finally found a way to start preventing piracy on the Sims 3.

Actually, sorry to put a damper on the obvious attitude you're trying to convey which is actually much better suited for MATYers that do know what they're talking about... I HAVE googled it. Not everyone is as moronic as you assume they may be just because they ask for what seems to be an easy find. A working skuversion.txt file is much harder to find than it seems.  

edit: above post- that almost sounds too easy? I shall investigate, although.... If it works, I have been bit in the ass big time.

I give up. Thank God this was only on my laptop. I may torrent Razor onto the home computer. Or wait until somehow a magic working file turns up.

Alright, I'm actually tempted to whine in a no-whine zone. ARGH. Well... Let's get this into a nutshell. Said game could not install either two of the official patches because of a corrupt file, named sku.text. Desperate to fix this problem, I deleted both EA folders and retorrented Razor. I then mounted Razor and it didn't reinstall. I checked the folder on the Autorun pop-up looking for options. There were, naturally, none. And there were no new EA games folder. Zip, zilch, nada. Just the 'Sims 3' stuff that were in the virtual drive from the Autorun pop up. I tried uninstalling it the official way, using CP. It fucking failed.

I'm tempted to try the only option there seems to be right now: Reset Windows, but really, I would like to know if there /is/ anything I could do before taking that drastic step  



Update: It seems stupid to try so hard when apparently the only invalid file is the skuversion txt. So, would anybody be as kind as to oblige (no jokes there) give me a download to a new one to replace my corrupt one. Motoki provided the Bin.RAR but it for some reason failed to install itself into my Game/Bin folder. I was sure it had nothing to do with my folder when I was able to replace .dllhost and .exe with a different download on Mediafire.

Sorry to bring the whole debate up again but apparently I don't think Razor will reinstall (I clicked on it in Daemon and the Autoplay didn't give me an option for setup) And so I was becoming more  frustrated... Thank God for TS2. So, here's the screenshot of me attempting to uninstall the whole program itself from CP hoping afterwards Razor would reinstall itself.



Hmm? This is really, really strange. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this: Razor torrenting (unlikely), or one of the Mods I downloaded or what? I also unmounted the image in Daemon but even then nothing helped. And I certainly know better than to contact EA (lol!)

And yeah, a word of (repeated) wisdom to those who tread this thread (pun NOT intended): modifying any files outside of the Mod folder will indeed bork the patch installation process. Tell it to my poor, ruined game being revived as we speak.

I used to think hacks and mods were two seperate things.

I earnestly hope that if possible, they can remove the faulty FV patch in the Razor torrent. I understand it was meant to use before the screwing-game-up official 1.3 patch came out, but now I'm unsure of their meaning/point and why they were there in the folder in the first place....

This has been a big help. I'm going straight to AM and download a google'd 1.2 patch then 1.3 after reinstalling. I really hope this works out.

If not, then how to do a hard reset or whatever it is called? I'm fairly young (NOT 12) and confused.

Yeah, I'm not exactly what you call tech savvy. I feel like I screwed up majorly...  Sucks as I liked the Sims in that game but I knew something was wrong when the launcher would always stay at zero percent while installing sim.packages.

I'm now re torrenting Razor but I know it won't take too long. /facepalm I deleted both of the spots where I had the EA folders, although for some bizarre reason Sims 3 won't uninstall from Control Panels. I hope that doesn't influence a new Sims 3 download but I have the feeling it will... It never goes as I want, after all.

It really wasn't choking on it so early though, fortunately, the fact it died on me when it was 99 percent complete tells me the sku. file was the only faulty one but I'm not sure....


UPDATE: It says access is denied and I got the error file on Bin.rar. Hmm... I'll need to try again. I honestly am not sure why there are so many problems. If I didn't have common sense I'd have been paranoid EA was out to get me by now.

Due to my bad luck I also cannot reinstall, the Uninstall setup pulled the 'Program is still in use' bullcrap.

 
So, How do I fix the ... Corrupt file or whatever the hell it is (:

I have not downloaded the no censor patch; What I do have installed is the Delphy's Slider hack, Ingredient Override from MTS2, a set of default skins/eyes, hairs... I think AM is the only 'mod' I had on it but hey, I'm computer illiterate.  

Plus. I also found a whole set of rt.patch files in folders like.. C2457-C40569 or whatever the hell they were named. I also found a Disk1 file but couldn't open it. After searching I found a Sims 3 Forum thread about this but the instructions seemed vague and pointless. :||||

Really? Hmm, I don't know if the new patch would install on my computer anyway as my Sims 3 game is so fucking buggy that I cannot even install items via the launcher, only using the monkey installer unless its a TS3.package file anyway

I'm seriously contemplating moving my Mod folder somewhere else as it might just be a mod there I can't find right now that is conflicting with the download....

EDIT: Motherfucker! It actually said Invalid File when I was trying to install patch 1.2.

The only patch I'd installed was inside of my Razor folder, named Final Version. I'm sorry but I'm not good at this shit so... Can someone spoonfeed me the instructions like a good little kid? 

When I run the setup, all goes well until the very end when it says 'invalid file' and forces me to close it without finishing the procession.

WTF?? I really want to play Sims 3, and I know AM isn't compatible if you don't have the new patch...


Help would be nice. And btw, my copy of the game is ARR'ed and for some reason I couldn't download from EA.com (perhaps because I signed up 'without an account'?) so I had to try to download somewhere else.

EDIT: I did uninstall AM before trying to set up the new patch. I'm frustrated as I've tried fruitlessly to bypass my game crashes and I haven't deleted any EA-made families except the annoying couple in the expensive beach house who loved partying. They weren't in the bin and I didn't modify the camera.
