1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What's the best way to handle memories? on: 2013 March 25, 07:46:05
- Do I lose something, if I turn them completely off through "Options", as I would like to do?
Your mind. That option doesn't actually work properly and you'll need a third party mod to fix it properly.

To the best of my knowledge you can open options.ini (My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3) and look for this line:
enablememories = 3

Setting it to 3 should disable memories entirely, letting you ignore the in-game settings.  However, please keep in mind that this is for 1.42 and higher.  Prior to 1.42 you would need a third party mod.  It won't hurt to look here for an explanation of some settings (even if you aren't crashing).
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Uni Life Thread on: 2013 March 09, 10:48:12
The roommates do at least seem to have better AI than Sims 2, but I was annoyed during the term I had a sim at Uni and friends started sharing a double bed with her until I moved the other bed in the room to another and locked the door.  Or basically roomies playing a shuffle game when it came to which bed they slept in.  It seems as though setting a bed owner means little, though perhaps we're supposed to assign every bed available.

I also noticed that whenever your sim isn't actively studying or attending class the performance meter decays (or at least it does for me).  It's probably intentional, though some of the flavor text makes it seem that you wouldn't suffer this so long as you actually attended every scheduled class.
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: KT's Store Fixes (updated 11.20.2012) on: 2012 December 07, 04:59:34
I am seeing the same behavior (or lack thereof).  Decrapified, launcher-installed Monte Vista and the Al Fresco set. The pizza oven isn't even as useful as a decorative item of dubious environment enhancement.  There are no options available whatsoever. The harvest stands, on the other hand, work just fine for me, at least in terms of purchasing from them (and wasn't I surprised to find flame fruit for sale).  I have not tried consigning anything with them.  (I did not try the lemonade stand, but at least that has options available to me.)
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How often do you 'reboot'? on: 2008 August 14, 22:46:01
I generally only use the Eaxis 'hoods for testing or challenges, but otherwise ignore or delete them.  And then I create a new 'hood, play it for a while, and generally abandon it when a new EP comes out and start another one, though I back up all neighborhoods pre-update.

But I do extract sims I become very fond of and turn them into saved sims, custom N001 template townies, or default facial template replacements.
5  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful than You! August: Craptacular Stories. on: 2008 August 05, 18:54:56
Nothing...absolutely nothing excuses you from using walls down.
Not true. Sometimes wallsdown is required because walls-up would block the only camera angle that lets you get a good picture.

You can delete the offending wall in Build mode, take the picture normally with walls up, then hit Ctrl-Z to zap the wall back into place.
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Good free firewall - NOT ZoneAlarm! on: 2008 July 22, 02:43:33
I've used Avast! for several years, but I also keep links to online scanners like F-Secure.

And I just switched from Zone Alarm to Comodo as a firewall.  Apparently ZA doesn't support 64-bit, so the hell with them.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help Wanted: BSODs and CPU Overheating on: 2007 December 29, 04:23:05
I recently killed a CPU, inadvertently.  And I probably could have saved the sucker if I'd done one simple thing.  Reapply the heat sink compound.
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's in YOUR Downloads? on: 2007 December 20, 08:29:40
Almost the entirety of the BV Director's Cut (the smattering of things I waffle on are disabled or removed, such as zombie apocalypse, dormie and townie noregen, local walkby, and harder jobs), and generally anything in test, the LS and PS conversions, etc.

I do have folders for TwoJeffs, Inge, Crammyboy, Dizzy, Jfade, Syberspunk, and a handful of other people from here and there.
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: More bullshit from Massive Shithead on: 2007 December 14, 22:16:58
Better yet, use a 1-900 number as your home phone. Then you just need to keep them talking long enough to actually pay your bill. Tongue

Sure, in your best sultry voice.
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Just how the hell many pictures do you have to acquire on vacay... on: 2007 December 11, 02:53:27
heh, for stories, I just crop&resize screenshots, number them in the order I want them and then write/type the story up in Notepad.  ...my game dosen't save half the pictures I take with the c key so I don't have much choice. I don't mind too much since I get better pictures from the screenshots.

That's why I like Gadwin PrintScreen, as it numbers them for me.  I just clean out the folder once I'm done each time.  Besides, the game camera makes me think I'm closer than I am, and that vexes me.

How is that more flexible than printscreen? Printscreen captures the entire screen and lets you put it in any paint program of your choice.

Externals (Gadwin, anyway) let you specify a folder for the pictures to go to automatically, and file format.
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: More bullshit from Massive Shithead on: 2007 December 11, 02:45:33
I despise phones in general, which is why I only own a cell.  It's set up to play custom ringtones for three numbers, I think.  My husband's cell, my parents' landline, and my brother-in-law's cell  (maybe the cells of my parents, I dunno).  If I hear the default tone, I thumb the side button to shut the ringer off and ignore it.

I don't know my number, either, but I have it written down somewhere.

The other hilarious thing to do with telemarketers is, before they can begin their spiel, immediately start with your own pushy telemarketing spiel, like you called them instead.

My husband once managed to (ostensibly) convince a telemarketer that it wasn't actually necessary to ever file taxes.  Though, she might have been playing along in the hopes of getting things back on track to him purchasing something.
12  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Pinstar's new Apocalypse challenge on: 2007 December 10, 15:25:04
Money is beyond easy to get beforehand, because Pinstar forgot to restrict one very, very important thing...you can move your founder from dorm to dorm, stripping them of furnishings. Cheaty? Sure. But completely within the rules.

For what it's worth, there's another way (easier for me) that I found reading the The Ragnarok Apocalypse thread by Felicia1066 over at Boolprop.  Have your founder purchase a ton of dreamcatchers (I don't know which EP they came in) at §50 each and sell 24 hours later.  You get §1,200+ for each one.  Do that for a semester and you're loaded.
13  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! December: 'tis the season! on: 2007 December 05, 01:11:31
Florida makes the rest of the South look SMART. Need I remind you that Florida is the DUMBEST state in the US, full of people who CANNOT EVEN FIGURE OUT HOW TO VOTE?

*snicker* Sure, like the one year when polls were only open to Republicans in the area I lived in.  For some mysterious reason, Democrats were being turned away due to some "difficulties."
14  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! December: 'tis the season! on: 2007 December 04, 23:30:08
. I recommend Florida for optimal tackiness. You will probably go blind. Most people just put up some lights, a wreath, it's nice. But every few blocks, there's that one house with 14 different glowing Christmas creatures in the front yard, a life-size glowing creche, and 5 different styles of lights, all of them blinking, covering every square inch of property.

When I lived in Merritt Island, the fellow across the street and one over hired people to decorate for him.  He had the full santa set on the roof with additional lights, lighted candy cane posts along his driveway (complete with lights strung between them), lights spiraled around his palm trees in three colours, more tacky lighted crap on the front "lawn", etc.  It was a nightmare.  And my bedroom window faced it, yay.

I think the south could give Florida a run for its money... Cool

Uh... have you looked at a map lately? Florida is in the South. It's the wiener of America.

Florida's not the south... Florida is Florida.... the south is Alabama, Tennesee, Kentucky, etc.... Tongue

Absolutely.  The only part of Florida I consider being the south is maybe the panhandle.  Aside from that, there's too many imports and retirees and whatnot to ever think I'm living in the south.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: University / Secret Society 4 the Old Guys like G.W.Bush on: 2007 December 03, 15:04:24
It annoys me that those coaches just interupt my simmies, and they don't follow rhyme or reason. They beleaguer even those YA's that have maxed body-skill and maxed fitness. What the hell is up with that?

I found it highly amusing earlier while playing that a coach marched onto my lot, waved at a few people, then left.  The least he could have done was make like a drill sergeant on the one fat dormie in sight.
16  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: August "More Awful Than You": Most Fugly Celebrity Sims on: 2007 August 24, 02:51:03
I knew I couldn't go wrong over at MTS2: This, is supposedly Christina Aguilera:

Maybe it's just that my eyesight is wonky, or the picture is off somehow, but the mouth on this looks like it's been shifted sideways so it's no longer centered.  It's really peculiar looking.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Deadly expensive hot tubs on: 2007 April 21, 03:47:51
The interesting thing to me is that there were two people in the love tub but only one died.  It left her a widow with three young children and there wasn't even time to try to plead. I was most amused.

Every time it's happened to me (normal hot tub), only one person gets nailed, regardless of how many people are in it at the time.  Weird, huh?

Kind of sad in a twisted way.  No newspaper headlines screaming "Mass Hot Tub Death at Downtown Singles Club!"
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Deadly expensive hot tubs on: 2007 April 17, 17:50:52
It's sad, but there you go.

Sims are too stupid to:
1. Check for a pool ladder before diving/sliding into a watery death,
2. Unable to simply get out like a normal person by hoisting themself up onto the surround.  (I guess their arms are strong enough to paddle and swim, but not leverage.)

So, it's not a shock when a sim continues to bubble away happily in the hot tub (though perhaps with a quick jump out to say "Wow, it's raining") without ever once displaying a shred of intelligence, and running like a frightened gazelle to "indoors" to avoid lightning strikes.

In the short time I had a hot tub outside at a dorm, two dormies died, and several more got fried.  Granted, I found it all quite funny (especially when my sim avoided getting hit), but eventually I placed corner greenhouse walls and a matching roof just to keep the pain and suffering down.

People can say all they like the phrase "shouldn't have to" but we all know it doesn't work that way with Sims 2.  It's the modders who make sense of the tortured illogic of Eaxis.

So, what... maybe Dizzy includes this sort of thinking into the autonomous behavior whatsihoozit?  Or is it too much...
19  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Apr "More Awful Than You" CC Treasure Hunt: Whore Clothes on: 2007 April 09, 07:24:30
You're entitled to your opinion.  I am to mine.  We will disagree, whether you agree to doing so or not.
20  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Apr "More Awful Than You" CC Treasure Hunt: Whore Clothes on: 2007 April 09, 07:08:18
Any parent who dressed their child in the "elf" clothes (or even the earlier example of ivy or whatever by the same 'artist') and paraded them around in public ought to be hauled in to the police station.  (Yes, yes, I know, these are sims, not people.  At least, I think that's what they are.)

In any case, there's plenty of offerings in this thread that I don't think are the least bit whorish, so we'll just agree to disagree, okay?  Smiley
21  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Apr "More Awful Than You" CC Treasure Hunt: Whore Clothes on: 2007 April 09, 02:33:02
I don't really find the elvenwear whorish. Yes, it's revealing, but the sims wearing the leaves and flowers don't look like they're selling themselves on the street. They just look very, erm... free.

Well, considering that the definition of whore includes both sexually promiscuous and prostitution, we have it both ways, eh?  So, free or not...

Personally, I think the outfit on either child or teen is like saying, "Hi!  Calling all pedophiles!  Come and get me, baby."
22  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Life Stories - Get the Stuffeths here! on: 2007 April 08, 23:33:10
I think someone already alluded to this, but it's absolutely insane that a good half or more of the walls/floors from Life Stories are better looking than anything included in Sims 2.  I mean wow!  Fantastic!  Some really nice choices.

(I'm just glad I stopped back in to see why the thread was still going strong.)

Which innocent apple pie do you know of that has tried to kill somebody lately?

No, but I am aware of one that tried to lure an innocent young man down the dark road of food debauchery.
25  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Apr "More Awful Than You" CC Treasure Hunt: Whore Clothes on: 2007 April 08, 05:38:10
Not to be a wet blanket, but is someone in this thread hot-linking to the MTS2 'thumbnails' server for images?

Clothes that awful deserve hotlinking.

On another day, and in a better mood, I would laugh and nod my head.  Right now...?  Heh, right now I'm tempted to think it would have been funny had Delphy swapped in ... what is it?  Goatse? Smiley
