1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Alternatives to Trillian? on: 2008 February 12, 02:09:16
I use Pidgin regularly...but I've been thinking of switching over to Trillian. Ever since the 2.2.something update (or thereabouts), the stupid thing's been crashing on me at least once a day. I haven't had much luck tracking down what the problem is, either, and subsequent updates haven't fixed it.  Angry That issue aside, though, it is a nice little program...though I liked it better back when it was in its GAIM days.
2  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Majong Glitch - Or Normal? on: 2008 January 29, 18:26:43
Not to hijack, but I'm not getting a jump bug from mahjongg. I have sims sit there, start moving the tiles around, and just stay sitting there motionless for hours. Even when there's only four sims on the lot and everyone's at the table (so they can't be waiting for another player). No errors are popping.

Not to contribute to the thread hijacking, but I've been having the same problem with the poker tables since BV. Four sims will sit down to play, but never get around to the actual playing. I don't use the tables that often though, so I haven't really dug down into trying to figure out what the problem is. Haven't even tried the mahjong tables yet.
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Uni class performance meter bug on: 2008 January 15, 03:29:00
I had that problem with one of my sims recently...I had to delete him with moveobjects to fix it. Try that?
4  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: 12-hr clock switched over to 24-hr on Bon Voyage install on: 2007 December 17, 21:21:05
Open up the Options panel. Select Game Options.  Toggle the "Force 12-Hour Clock" option to "Yes."

Sometimes that doesn't work. Mine would switch back to 24 hours again and again. Turns out my BV installed with UK_english.

It can take a registry adjustment to fix but honestly it's very easy.
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,8850.msg243198.html#msg243198

After a glance at the registry, it turns out mine was, too. Whoops. Thanks for that link--got it fixed now, and nothing seems to have imploded.
5  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / 12-hr clock switched over to 24-hr on Bon Voyage install on: 2007 December 17, 19:00:36
I installed BV and dropped in a no-CD.exe, because SecuROM sucks. Everything works fine, except that my 12 hour clock is now showing 24 hour time. The game swears left, right, and upside down that my language/location is still English (US), and just at a glance I don't see any issues with Sims' names being changed at random like I've heard happens when you switch locations mid-game. And yet I still have a 24-hour clock. I can live with that...I'm just not sure if it's a sign of something else being broken or not. And, okay, it's a little annoying.

So, why did my game switch over to 24 hour time? And how do I fix it? If it involves fussing around with the registry, I should warn you that I'm sort of a Windows n00b (grew up with Macs), so I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing on that front and am afraid of blowing something up. So detailed instructions are nice.

Thank you!
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Third Seasons Patch is out.... on: 2007 June 27, 01:11:21
Something else I've also noticed, a beard has been missing ever since I installed Seasons. It's the big scruffy 'hermit' beard.

Me too. I think there might be one or 2 others missing too. The bald hair head with comb-over is also weird with strange patches on it. I was assuming that one of my downloaded hairs had messed these things up, but I never noticed the problems before installing Seasons. I've been planning to check a clean game, but haven't done it yet.

I think that might be a downloaded hair causing problems...I just tested it on two adult male sims and had no weirdness issues.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Viviana: Girl or Boy? Wha? on: 2007 June 24, 18:18:57
I wouldn't put it past the game to change a sim's gender without the player doing anything stupid.

I wouldn't, either. One of my OFB (I think--she could've been generated with the Pets install) townies has been redefining the term "gender confusion" from the moment she appeared. S/he has the hair/face/clothing of an adult female, but her voice is definitely male, and s/he's flagged as a male by SimPE. Huh

There's something else glitched with her, too...every time she appears on one of my sims' business lots, her buy bar appears embedded in her neck instead of over her head.
8  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jun "More Awful Than You": Stupidass Houses! on: 2007 June 16, 02:00:47

Does that monstrosity have any flat terrain that the sims can walk on, or are they doomed to be stuck in their house forever?

If you look at the gallery, it looks like there's a flight of stairs for sims to run, run from the horror! get down to the road. At least I think that's where the stairs lead to. With that lot, who knows. Roll Eyes

Speaking of Parsimonious creations, "Analyze" caught my eye. At first it looks relatively not-hideous, except, well...the roof's full of "skylights." AKA holes. I'm not sure the game would even consider it a real roof. Soooo...who wants to play that lot with Seasons? Grin
9  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Earring weirdness on: 2007 June 12, 22:43:14
However, I believe Seasons patch #1 fixed it.

No it didn't. I've got Seasons P1 and one of my sets of earrings is still flashing blue. The other few that I have, however, seem to be fine for whatever reason.
10  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: All my adults sims only have the "Dirty joke" wants. on: 2007 April 11, 17:17:30
You can also force a wants reroll with the lot debugger, IIRC.
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The scarecrow on: 2007 March 27, 12:55:39
Have you ever actually let (or tried to get) a sim to die? Mostly it is nowhere near as easy as all that Smiley

I had a sim catch pneumonia the other day and decided to see if she'd actually die from it--I basically let her run around on free will rather than take care of her. Despite her getting so stinky she was attracting flies, eating out of the garbage can constantly instead of the fully stocked fridge (sloppy sims, honestly Roll Eyes), picking fights with the social bunny, passing out in a heap all over the house, etc. etc. ...she still made a full recovery.

...At least until I got annoyed and dropped a satellite on her head. Grin
12  Awesomeware / The Scrapyard / Re: Seasons p0 Energizer Fix on: 2007 March 27, 10:18:02
Yesterday I sent a tired, slightly-hungry, pregnant Sim to energize.  She pulled the lever, stepped into the bucket, then immediately stepped out to cry "I'm Tired!!"  (no kidding, that's why I told you to use the Energizer, you @$#%^!)
I told her to step back in.  She pulled the lever, stepped into the bucket, then immediately stepped out to observe "It's Raining!!"
I told her to step back in.  She pulled the lever, stepped into the bucket, then immediately stepped out to cry "I'm Hungry!!"
(Repeat, ad naseum, until unconsciousness)

Fun.

Personally, I think at that point I'd declare the sim in question too stupid to live and just let them pass out/starve/pee themselves/whatever. Obnoxious whining doesn't get my sims very far in life.
13  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Seasons is crashing on: 2007 March 15, 18:04:18
Lorelei,

Laptops are different critters. They weren't ever built to play  these type of games. Wasn't their purpose. They do use different video cards in them than in desktops. Laptop processors and Video cards are special because of power issues.Even the HDD are different. If your ordering parts for them they have to be "Laptop" parts.
Everything put in them has to be able to use low power. After all they have to be able to run on batteries more than a few minutes. You buy a laptop because you want to be able to take it with you and use it anywhere. That means places where there are no outlets.

But there are "desktop replacement" laptops and laptops built specifically with gaming in mind. Mine is a desktop replacement rig...crap battery life (about 2 hours) and weighs 10 lbs, but it's taken every game I've thrown at it so far.

Theoretically ATI doesn't support driver updates on it, either (Mobility Radeon card)--their detection software kept saying my computer wasn't compatible. I went with a late '06 set of drivers I dug out of the depths of Google instead of the '07 set ATI had posted...they work great. And no, I don't get support from EA either, since I'm running the game on an "unsupported" system...but why would I want help from them anyway? They'd just tell me to delete my custom content and reinstall.  Roll Eyes

It's entirely possible to get TS2 running--well--on a laptop if you're willing to shell out the money. And stay away from Nvidia.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: substituting default pets with my own creations on: 2007 March 13, 12:30:57
Thanks so much for these! It's nice to finally have Abys that actually look something like my two boys. Smiley
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Odd things I noticed about Seasons on: 2007 March 05, 14:07:00
Also, the "whats this?" reutine they go through when you get a new item seems to be worse like its more attractive to them since install. They will drop everything in que to go see this new light and complain about it, it just seems like its much more urget to them now. But they don't do it with the "its snowing" icon that comes up in their que when its snowing that stays as second in que.

Use JMP's nowhatsthis. I haven't seen the "what's this?" routine since before installing Uni because, no, I don't care what my sims think about the new ceiling light.  Roll Eyes

Quote
they're also Not taking care of their most urgent needs. Their Hunger is barly past 50% but their Bladder is nearly at zero and they go out of their way to make a sandwich. They're going to pee themselves and they go to bed instead, or shower. They're falling asleep at zero but they want a shower with 50% hygine... they have the need in que to take care of it themselves but will drop it to do somthing else. This is all on freewill by the way because thats how i play.

Sims have no survival instinct, much less peeing instinct. I've had exactly two sims in a neighborhood of five generations who had the sense to take themselves to the bathroom when they needed to.
16  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Application terminates when trying to package or move lot to lots/houses bin on: 2007 March 02, 08:34:04
Binning sims in the lots & houses bin = very, very bad thing. Do not want.

The best way to move sims between neighborhoods is to clone them--use the SimSurgery tool of SimPE to export them. Then re-create them in CAS in your cleaner neighborhood, assigning personality points, turn-ons, etc. to match the Pleasantview originals. Further alterations to DNA and so forth can be made in SimPE.
17  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Why are my rugs looking like crap!? on: 2007 February 17, 09:00:34
I've got the same problem--IIRC it was happening before Pets as well. ATI Mobility Radeon X600 here.
18  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sims missing from "Send to College" on: 2007 February 12, 05:59:24
Couldn't you use Merola's mind control mirror for that?
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets patch released on: 2007 February 11, 11:41:11
Almost all of the OFB female townies are like that.  Sad It is really annoying because I had to change all of their hair styles to long ones that cover the scalp.

Really? Weird that I never noticed...what did MaxisEA bork that causes that?
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets patch released on: 2007 February 11, 11:19:19
Has anybody noticed anything weird going on with their townies' hair post-patch? I had a Bluewater townie drop into one of my sims' stores yesterday with some sort of bizarre scalp disease or something.

SimPE says she's genetically blonde/blonde, but she's always walking around with brown hair. I could've sworn she used to have brown eyebrows, too, but I may just be remembering wrong--anyway, she has blonde ones now. And a blonde...scalp?

I do use default replacement skintones (obviously) and bin all my custom hairs, but I don't think they're causing the problem here, as all my other sims are fine. I also have playables with this same haircut that don't have this problem.
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets patch released on: 2007 February 10, 10:02:25

ahh yes, I did see those pics *had forgotten*  oddly enough I had something similar happen before installing the Pets patch - decent looking teen boy grew up into a scary adult (and was then killed off) and I had another teen boy who had very scary cheekbones as a teen that got much worse when he grew up (he also died) so I wonder if that bug is actually in Pets itself and not the patch  Undecided   I also have a few other sims that I thought would have to die when they were teens but when they became adults the worst features improved enough that I allowed them to live (again, all before patching)

I think that's a coincidence, not a bug. I've had sims who were absolutely adorable as toddlers/children, only to be hit with the ugly stick repeatedly on their way to their teen transition. A friend of mine also had a whole family where the boys were ridiculously attractive as teens, only to turn into young adults and develop some disturbing noses and cheekbones almost identical to yours, MagicBeans.

Edit to clarify: Both of these incidents were pre-Pets--pre-NL and OFB, even.
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets patch released on: 2007 February 07, 09:47:36
I thought the issue was with NPC outfits...? So if the maid's no longer wearing her NPC outfit, she should have the correct hair, I think. One of my sims moved in and married Lucy Hanby; she still has her red hair. (The blonde maid who replaced her, however, has suddenly become a brunette. Roll Eyes )
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Heleane's skins? on: 2007 February 05, 10:47:08
I saw a message on her site stating that she was thinking of closing it soon--that was a couple of weeks ago, IIRC. Still, pretty low key closing. And am I the only one who can't seem to find Helaene's skins on sexysims2.com since the lost downloads fiasco?
24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Moved mailboxes & trashcans on: 2007 February 02, 13:39:13
Well, I tend not to notice the visible trashcans have been knocked over until the roaches show up, so...  Wink
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Moved mailboxes & trashcans on: 2007 February 02, 09:32:52
've never heard of having a second trashcan. CC , perhaps? or a replacement one?

I've never heard of a second trashcan, either. But it's not CC--I install all my downloaded lots with the Clean Installer, and all it installed with this lot was the lot itself, no CC. So I'm not sure where the extra trashcan came from.

Looks like I'll be moving the mailbox back where it belongs, at least, though--I'd like to avoid future wonkiness.
