TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Children's stool left behind at Mirror
|
on: 2006 August 02, 21:46:56
|
If the child is sent to a wall mirror to 'change appearance', their stool remains and blocks the tile. This happens with or without a sink in front of the mirror and is not confined to just the bathroom. This is another weird glitch that appeared, and since I installed both NL and OFB together, I don't know which may be causing this to happen. It was there pre-patch and is still there post-patch. You can't delete the stool without enabling the 'moveObjects' cheat, which is annoying.
I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen to them.
Thanks to All, SM

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Body Skill with Stairs - Mod Request and/or Discussion
|
on: 2006 June 16, 16:46:33
|
I love houses with lots of stairs, because I love watching those silly Sims walk up and down constantly. There is a Silo in Veronaville that I had remodeled with the boxy equivalent of spiral exterior stairs. I wish now that there were a mod to allow them to gain skill while using all those stairs.
I thought I had seen a mod somewhere, that allowed skilling, but I don't remember where. I realize it would lack awesomeness (hint) but I would love to see one that could. Has anyone else seen one?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 'No Patch' Play - How do you feel about this?

I wouldn't consider playing an unpatched game, but if you WANT bugs in your game, go ahead. It's your BFFBFS. Jordi, really, speaking for myself, I was stating just how wonderful a job that the hacks and mods do for the game 'as is'. Like Rainbow said, I just roll with the games and use the updates included with each new expack. I'm actually playing an unpatched game too. No fire balls either. I didn't patch mainly because I use a lot of hacks, both here and MTS2, and I don't even want to start to check compatability. Luckily, I can own community lots. I'm basically waiting for the Pets EP. Because it is easier to see if a hack works for certain EP than certain patch of an EP. I'm going away for the most of this summer so I won't play much. I have many and I have not run into a compatibility problem yet. I am careful what I choose and I run the compatibility tool as a guide. SM

I wonder if it's possible to get the patch on a CD or something, for those people who don't have good reliable internet on their Sims2 computer?
Not that I have that problem, mind ye, but I've thought about getting a computer with good RAM specifically just for The Sims 2. Cuz quite frankly, the game runs so SLOW for me.
That's what I had to do - I now have 1Gig of Ram and a 128Mg video card. The video card has become outdated by Maxis recommendations, but I don't care it still works great. SM

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: error object message
|
on: 2006 June 11, 21:18:56

If you are getting an error message for an object, I think you must have boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true running, and if you are getting the message, you should really do something about it. Yes, I was told that OFB made this impossible. I had it ticked in SimPE and had forgotten I had it enabled when I put OFB on my machine. I asked someone I knew that did coding and she told me this can cause problems with any object that has animations attached to this. I immediately turned it off and I have not had it on for a while now and I have not had the object error messages. Even having the 'moveObjects' cheat enabled creates problems. SM

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / 'No Patch' Play - How do you feel about this?
|
on: 2006 June 11, 21:11:44
|
I must say I have not missed anything that the patches could have provided. I wondered how others felt about this experience, too?
Well, after a number of reinstalls, and this last time a while back now, I made the decision to leave out all the patches and take my chances. I downloaded all the must-have hacks and mods, that I always use and whenever I came across a new problem. I have many that just make game play more exciting.
I have to say the most annoying thing has been the heavy hit on motives - What is up with that? I create my Sims with at least six points in neat and active and you would think they were pregnant, lazy, sloppy and elderly all at the same time.
Thank you for responding with your thoughts,
SM

But when you first had Sims1, didn't you think the graphics etc. were brilliant? I know I did way back then! It's just that now we have Sims2, Sims1 seems a poor substitute. The same could be said of Sim City, each new version made the previous seem dull by comparison, although I personally never could get to grips with even 3000, and I wish I could get 2000 to work now!
I come from the generation of text games (ugh..don't laugh!), but I thought they were great at the time until Kings Quest IV came out - Wow! I played SimCity, SimAnts and the one that allowed you to create genetically altered animals that evolved. I never played Sims, but my kids did and they had all the EPs. I used to sit and watch them play and I remember being impressed too. I know that sounds 'simple-minded', but I don't care - I thought they were fantastic. I never realized either that there was an amazing creator-modder community 'out there'. I just marvel at all of it - everwhere. SM

Ahhhhhh, I see. Thank you all for your assistance. Simlover, you were absolutely correct; that was what I was doing wrong. I feel so incredibly stupid right now it's not even funny. Well, maybe it is to you all, but not to me. How could I have missed that they were Young Adult sims? *beats the ever lovin' crap out of self* In the future, if I ever manage to piss anyone at this site, please feel free to reference this thread and I will be properly cowed and lose the will to express myself anymore. This is humiliating... it's like a college professor not knowing how to save a file. *shame* Don't feel bad, I also looked a the three Sims in Body Shop, but did not immediately realize they were YAs. I was going to add that I had checked in CAS and all the necessary components were there, custom genetics and clothing - about 9 files worth, but no Sims. When I went back into BS, I cloned them and deleted the originals (to check for Body Shop stability) and then realized they were YAs. I created another set, regular Adult Sims, and found that the Hogwarts uniform was categorized for both YA and adults. So now I have a set in both age categories that can be played in either Uni or the regular neighborhood. Glad you are good to go now and that your issues are resolved. SM

Please forgive me for bringing this up again, but I was wondering if anyone had had a chance to take a looksee at the files to see if anything was wrong with them. I really am completely and utterly baffled as to why those three just ain't workin'. I have just downloaded them and am going to run them through the course.

Also note that TS2 has a minimum requirement of 256 MBs of RAM, but that Windoze will take up half of your RAM, so that you will need twice as much in your actual computer, because Windoze takes up half of it. That's true, especially if you use Outlook, it is quite the memory sponge and I have 1024 Mb. I try and make a point to reboot if I have used Outlook or Excel at any time to help reduce this - it seems like the more memory you have the more Windows will waste.

Inquiring minds must know, what is the ghost color for "death by elevator woohoo?" Umm, a couple of things come to mind, but I am too shy to say. Now everyone should make a mental note not to go woohooing in the elevators, unless of course you immediately exit at the next floor. However, if you do, don't be a slow poke - make sure you get off first. Anyway you look at it...That was a heck of a climax! SM

I'm definately going to up the virtual memory, in fact my husband suggested a second hard drive for it, heh I'm not sure that's actually the cause here though...it makes sense to me, but I tried it again just now immediately after booting up the machine and it crashed again adding the first item to a new collection. That's what my husband suggested. So when I got a larger hard drive, I kept the old one installed to handle some of those tasks where the computer might require extra temporary space. I use it for back-ups, too.

I play now OFB, and it seems that you can't resurrect pre-dead sims anymore. I enterred General Grunt house, and tried to resurrect Lyla. Buzz got the message, that he doesn't know anybody to resurrect.
While, in NL, I tried the same, and Lyla's name popped up immediately. Did we return to previous EPs (Uni)? I think Gali may be right. Since I could not find a copy of my old Lyla, I tried the same thing using the newest SimPE version with NL and OFB installed. I was able to export Lyla to Body Shop like always, but when I selected the image to clone her the Body Shop program crashed. So, I guess you aren't able to resurrect the older Sims anymore with OFB installed. Too bad.

They're called colors. See, the first one is red, the second one is yellow, the third one is blue, and the fourth one is orange. JUst because you only see shades of gray doesn't mean we all do, sockmonkey. OOOOH! Monkeys can see red I think. But to be fair to the color family you really should have green and purple in there too.

Apparently it was overheating, so I turned up the fan on the heatsink... ...Anyhow, after that restart, I unhooked everything, bought myself some canned air, and got to dustin' Oh Man, sorry about the dust clogs. I totally forgot what a problem those can be and I just finished doing the same thing to someone else's computer. About the restarts and the McAfee: Do you have it set to automatically download the updates? - because that may be allowing it to auto reboot the system for you. On my system I have the tasks set to perform at different times and I set them to notify me only when updates are available, then I install and reboot when I am ready to do so. Hope you get it to cooperate with you soon - <groan>I hate computer problems. Good Luck.

Do mean you put all the clothing files and the related mesh files in the Saved Sims folder?
Yes, that's right. I keep all the build and buy packages for lots, including object meshes and all hacks in my downloads folder. Everthing to do with the Sim body - clothes, genetics, accessories and their related meshes, I keep in my SavedSims folder, since Body Shop uses this folder, too.

My mind gets a vapor lock just thinking about how utterly bloated the files would be - if they do it right. LOL. LIke they've done any of them 'right' yet. They don't know that word 'right'.... or 'correct' or 'test'! LOL! PS. I'm also convinced they all have different versions of the game on their indivdual PCs and that is why the requirementsand bugs etc keep getting changed back and forth. So: they don't know the words 'uniformity' 'update' either. Your are absolutely right - What they really need is a good Continuity Director or maybe some NightLife of their own.

Enayla at MTS2 has pretty ones, but I don't know about the enhancements. She has a well-done skintone with freckles, too. She has two natural sets, default replacements and non-default.
Yes, Reavoye's are great, though I think she moved most of hers to TSR. Her's are also of the shiny/glow type; two sets, one with a less bloated looking belly. Not as many skintone choices but also very pretty.

Ahhh yes, Subfolders, they will get you everytime and neither the game nor HomeCrafter care about duplictes of floors and walls.
I love Kathy Bates' TaWanda. I miss my sock monkey - wholly cow - Did I say that out loud? Anyway, I bought some of the genuine Rockford red-heel socks to make one of my own. Now I just wear the socks, but I did consider sewing the facial features on the toes. After careful thought I felt this might be too disturbing on several levels.

Hope this helps: Here are the EA recommended requirements: Supported video cards: ATI Radeon(TM) series (8500 or better) 8500, All-In-Wonder 8500 9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800 X300, X600, x700, X800, x850 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ------------------- * 1000 MHz processor * 256 MB RAM * Windows(R) XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000 Operating System. * At least 1.5 GB of additional hard drive space (5.0 GB total is required if installing both The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Nightlife at the same time.) * A T&L-capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM. Obviously you attempted this when you built your computer. After you thoroughly check out your video card status, check and/or adjust your virtual memory settings. I mentioned this to JenWarrem on another similar post - it's worth a try anyway. Also go to AVGfree.com and download their free (not trial) version of the anti-virus scanner. They like to confuse the issue on the home page with all the advert noise. That's what I did when my McAfee expired and it has done a good job. The actual link is http://www.avgfree.com/doc/289/lng/us/tpl/tpl01Anyway, just some thoughts.
