2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Would this result in a BFBVFS? on: 2007 December 17, 16:11:54
Normally I would think it should be ok. Sims in my main 'hood keep in touch with their friends & relatives in the different subhoods via the phone all the time.

One possible thing I'd like to warn you about with moving your sims. I have found that if one of the sims is pregnant that weirdness can happen when moving them. Once I moved a pregnant sim from Pleasantview to the Downtown subhood. She gave birth about 12 simhours after moving her into her new place and to my surprise the father of her baby was now a random Downtown townie she'd never met. I do not know what caused the glitch. I moved her the correct way, by first having her move out of the house via the computer and into the sim bin. Then I moved her into one of the Downtown homes. For some reason this broke the pregancy tie with the father of the unborn child (who lived in the main neighborhood) and substituted the townie.

I've read of a couple other incidences of this, and I think this could be related to the Seasons problem with Sam Ottomas' pregnancy. Moving pregnant sims within the main 'hood or subhood that they were already residing in seems to be ok. But moving them from the main 'hood to a subhood and vice-versa (or from one subhood to another, like from the shopping district to Downtown) does seem to have a good chance of messing with the pregnancy.

Fantastic lot SC. Thanks for sharing it with us. It will be so nice to have flat or nearly flat beach lots.

7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Cyd Roseland: What's his damage? on: 2007 July 22, 05:12:18
he keeps showing up to whatever lot I'm playing and running up to one of the sims and pushing them, trying to start a fight.

He's likely doing this because your sim is looking through a telescope during the daytime and Cyd "believes" he's being spied on. If you kill him off then another sim will be randomly selected as the offended sim who will poke your sims for looking through the telescope. Either don't have your sim look through the telescope during the day or try TwoJeffs "No shoving from looking through telescope" hack. I use the hack and happily have no more shoving, though my sims seem to still like spying on each other with the telescope.  Cheesy
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Will real parties ever be possible? on: 2007 July 19, 22:57:18
If I recall correctly the pink gorilla will come out of the cake if most of the guests are children. But it's been years since I played Sims 1 so I could be wrong.

I remember the Sims 1 campfire. Sims could roast marshmallows and tell ghost stories around it. Telling ghost stories would result in a ghost popping out of the fire and scaring the sims.  Cheesy Such fun! I hope we'll have that available with the campfires in Bon Voyage.
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Playing with fridge on: 2007 July 18, 19:04:46
I think sims have ben able to float on their backs in the pool since the original game. It's mentioned in the original Prima guide, though I've never seen it myself. Probably because I tend to ignore sims while they're swimming. I have them on Free Will so when they're tired/hungry/need the bathroom they'll get out on their own. The pool game "Timle Tourneau" and the pool slide were the features that came with Seasons. It is so funny to watch a sim with low body skill slide down the pool.  Cheesy

Recently I had a pregnant sim automously rub her own belly. I'd never seen it before except for pictures in other gamer's stories. It's really cute. It's also cute when they rub their aching backs.
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Play Style: The Nitty Gritty on: 2007 July 18, 03:27:20
- are you more into building lots, decorating lots, creating sims, or playing families?
I like building but I get frustrated because I don't think I'm very good at it. Mostly I will remodel Maxis homes or homes I've downloaded to fit my needs. My favorite things are to create sims and play families
Quote
- lots: do you play highly decorated, with walls up/cutaway, with a focus on 'whoever has the most toys wins"? Or do you play barely decorated, walls down, with a focus on interractions/spawning?
I am into interactions and spawning but I like my sims' environments to look realistic. I'll decorate their home according to my perception of their economic status and style. I prefer to play with cutaway walls and when I take pictures I put the walls up.
Quote
- is genetics your thing? Do you like watching spawns, and spawns of spawns for how they turn out? Or do you barely get through one generation before you're off to the next family?
Genetics is one of my favorite aspects of the game. I love to see how they turn out, who has Mom's nose, Dad's eyes and how it passes down through the generations. Really ugly sims (fish lips and gigantic noses) do bother me. I like a large variety in a sim's looks but if the sim looks like an ugly cariacture I'll either do plastic surgery and make the surgery genetic or kill off the sim.
Quote
- do you build lots of hoods, or have you been playing one or two hoods forever?
I have 5 neighborhoods. Two are Maxis neighborhoods; Riverblossom Hills and Pleasantview. Three are custom neighborhoods; Sedona (my version of Strangetown), Caerdroia (my Royal Kingdom Challenge neighborhood), and Spring Valley (my Victorian Neighborhood). I deleted Maxis' Veronaville and Strangetown long ago.
Quote
- in terms of what your sims do: are you into relationships and interractions, or are you more into how they skill and climb the corporate ladders?
I only care about skills or career levels for LTWs. Sometimes I like to make sure teens have at least one skill at 8 points for scholarships. Otherwise I'm much more into relationships and interactions.
Quote
- do you play lots of community lots, or are your sims homebodies?
Depends on my mood and the sim I'm playing. My Pleasure and Romance sims do a lot of socializing at community lots. My Family and Knowledge sims tend to stay home more often.
Quote
-city/country/suburban?
All of the above. I like variety.  Grin
Quote
- do you do themes? (aliens, medieval, Victorian)
Yes. I like theme neighborhoods. I mentioned above that I have an alien, medieval and Victorian neighborhood. I'm a history nut so I love to have my sims "step back in time."
Quote
- do you play with pets?
Yes, some families have pets though not all of them. I do tend to give more families cats rather than dogs. It's probably because I have three of my own and am more of a cat person though I do like dogs.
Quote
- do you do the vamp/werewolf/alien/zombie thing, or are you more a 'real person' player?
I've played aliens, that's it. I'm really not into the other paranormal creatures. They don't appeal to me.  I've never made a werewolf, vampire, zombie or a plantsim. Rose & Daisy Greenman (the plantsims that came with Riverblossom Hills) were turned to human sims as soon as I was able to do so.
Quote
- hacks: do you like to make life simpler or harder? insim? inteen?
I use all of the awesome bugfixes and hacks to get rid of annoyances. I also couldn't live without TwoJeffs ACR and Visitor Controller. ACR is fantastic for me because I was tired of directing my sims' romantic interactions. I wanted my sims to choose who they would woohoo with and when to try for baby. It's also fun to see the messes they will get themselves into due to their romantic choices.  Cheesy
Quote
-custom content: lots or a little? what do you have the most of?
I have lots of custom content, well over 1 G in my downloads folder. I got tired of the Maxis eyes and skintone so I found defaults I like better. For my themed neighborhoods I have a lot of historical clothing and objects. I get tired of Maxis clothes so I have some modern outfits I like too, mostly outfits from All About Style (I think I've downloaded everything she has) and some from MTS2.

Quote
- and finally, if you share your creations...what do you create?
I have yet to make anything though I wish I knew how. One of my other hobbies is Civil War reenacting. I make all of my clothes for myself and my family (sans husband's 1st United States Sharpshooter Uniform-my sewing machine does not like thick wool). I wish I knew how to recreate my historical clothing in pixel version for my sims. But alas my skill at virtual needlework is no where near my real life sewing skills.
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Gold headstones?? on: 2007 July 17, 22:27:21
That's correct Soylent Sim. The fancy gold tombstones only happen if your sim dies of old age with Platinum aspiration. Any other type of death results in the plain tombstone regardless of aspiration.

Welcome to MATY FuzzyLove. I hope you'll check out all the available mods here. There is a lot of great stuff that I consider a must have for my game.  Smiley

I still have occasional fires on lots with lightning rods. Do we need to use more than one?  Undecided

Doh! Silly me. I should have read that much more carefully. Thanks for pointing it out to me Jordi.  Cheesy
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I need fireproof trees... on: 2007 June 26, 15:56:42
I am from Northern California and I am ready for earthquakes but that blast of lightening and fire is something we don't have here, thank goodness.

According to the California Department of Forestry the five year average for fires caused by lightning worked out to be about 288 fires per year. So it's definitely something we have here (I live in Northern CA too), usually we don't see it happen and instead see all the news stories of the CDF desperately trying to get the fire contained and put out. I grew up in the Sierra Nevada mountains so every year from May-October I was always a bit on edge. I still get edgy about it eventhough now I live in the central valley. But I do know what you mean. The first time I heard the lightning in the game I nearly jumped out of my chair. It sounds so realistic and in real life I hate lightning. I have gotten more used to the sound now so I don't jump as much as I used to. You might get more used to it over time as well or like Phyllisp mentioned a no lightning hack may help you. Numenor at MTS2 made one- http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=228276
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Second Seasons Patch is out.... on: 2007 June 14, 03:22:35
Just wondering, but does NO ONE at Maxis/EA understand the concept of a beta test?

After seeing the same sorts of mistakes made repeatedly I think it's pretty safe to say that beta testing is a completely foreign concept to them. They seem to be stuck in the mindset that we gamers are their beta testers.
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Having problems making plastic surgery genetic with SimPE on: 2007 May 27, 15:26:29
I didn't try extracting the sim yet. I should probably try that next. I'd love it if Seasons has made it so plastic surgery will now be genetic but I really doubt they'd do that. This is driving me mad because it's how I always fixed some of the really bugly Maxis sims prior to Seasons. I'm scratching my head with what could be wrong. It might be that something croaked when I installed the updated SimPE and I need to reinstall. The interface looks much different too, compared with previous versions. There could easily be another step or two to open the Facial Structure file that wasn't required with earlier versions of SimPE. It doesn't seem as user friendly as past versions felt to me. Looks like I'll be busy trying to ferret out the issue.

Edit- Reinstalling SimPE fixed the issue. The Facial Structure file now opens when I click on it and I was able to complete the "make plastic surgery genetic" procedure for two sims in different neighborhoods. Something must have gone wonky the first time I installed the updated SimPE. I'm so relieved it's working now. Thanks for the help Bippy and the mods can go ahead and close this thread.  Smiley
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Having problems making plastic surgery genetic with SimPE on: 2007 May 27, 14:50:20
Before Seasons I'd used SimPE many times to make the Dr. Vu's plastic surgery genetic and never had a problem with it. I carefully followed the tutorial from MTS2 that Bippy mentioned in CountFour's thread-

AN IMPORTANT NOTE!!

If you changed a sims' ugly maw with Danny's coa or Dr Vu's machine and it want to extract the new look YOU MUST alter the DNA as explained here:

1. Open Simpe, then open your neighbourhood via the neighbourhood browser

2. Open the Sim browser

3. Find the Sim that has recently been to the plastic surgeon (they're listed by their first name) and click "open"

4. You'll see a lot of info. Click on "more" and choose "open character file"

5. Then the character file of your Sim opens. On the left hand side you will see "Facial Structure", click it and on the right hand side two lines will appear (if you've done plastic surgery that is!!!)

6. Right click the second line and choose "Extract..."

7. Save the extracted file in a directory of your choice, KEEP THE ORIGINAL NAME

8. Back in Simpe, right click the first line and choose "Replace..."

9. Then select the file you just extracted. IMPORTANT: use the file with the .simpe extension NOT the file with the .xml extension!!!

10. The first line will go italics, telling you that it's been changed. Click "Save" and you're all done!

Yesterday was the first time I'd attempted this procedure with a sim after installing Seasons & Celebrations. I installed the updated Seasons/Celebrations compatible version of SimPE. I have no problems until I get to step #5. I see the "Facial Structure" in the opened character file and it has a two in parenthesis, indicating that the sim has had plastic surgery. When I click on Facial Structure nothing happens. It doesn't open and put the two lines on the right hand side. The right hand side remains blank. I've tried left click (which worked before Seasons), double click and right click. Facial Structure will be highlighted but that's it. I'm rather frustrated.

I've only used SimPE for this, to change last names and to clean up dangling SWAFs in Pleasantview (I deleted the other two Maxis 'hoods).  So I'd consider my SimPE skills to be low to middle. I print out the tutorials for what I plan to do, back up my neighborhood and carefully follow the tutorial step by step. Would someone who is more awesome than me help me figure out why it's not working anymore? I'd really appreciate it, thanks.  Smiley
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Life Stories Table Edit? on: 2007 May 14, 23:58:01
Celebrations?

I have all the jerked-over LS stuff and I don't have that table.

I have Celebration Stuff and I don't have that table or the chairs. In fact I have all of the stuff packs and I don't have that dining set in any of them. I think the table & chairs set must be CC. Except for the unmoveable vase centerpiece it is lovely.

The "raccoon tail" is really the pull cord for the ceiling light.  Wink
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pantry- Anyone know where i could download a functional one? on: 2007 April 28, 17:54:52
Numenor modified the little Maxis stove so that you can cook with it- http://www.modthesims2.com/member/showthread.php?t=131507 I know I have another old fashioned style stove too for my historical 'hoods. I just need a couple minutes to remember where I'd found it.

Here's where I found the other stove I like to use- http://www.geocities.jp/garapon9/sims2grnews00.html You'll find a lot of great stuff for historical homes. There is a nice recolor of the fridge that would look similar to a pantry. I can't remember though, are recolored fridges ok for leftovers in Seasons or is it just the custom fridges that cause the missing leftovers problem?
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Kitty Condo on: 2007 April 27, 19:03:32
Our cats like to sleep in shoe boxes too.  Cheesy We've given up on buying real cat toys for them. They're not interested. They'd much rather play with my daughters' "My Little Ponies" (they pick them up by the tail, throw them around, groom them and run through the house with the tail in their mouths), a ball of crumpled up tin foil or an ice cube. They love twist ties & rubber bands but we take them away because our oldest cat tries to eat them. Those plastic spider rings the kids get around Halloween? My cats LOVE those. They'll play with them almost endlessly.

It's been getting warmer around here so lately our cats have taken to sleeping in the bathroom sinks again. Rather humorous to see.

Once in a great while my sim cats will sleep in the condo. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's against a wall or not. I've seen them sleep in the little cubby hole and even once on the platforms. They seem to prefer the beds though. Perhaps they advertise higher energy & comfort levels?

22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: PSU caused video card failure? on: 2007 April 19, 03:21:39
Orrr it could be the drivers. A year or more back, Nvidia released drivers that caused some cards to overheat. With all the problems they've had with drivers lately, it could very well be that again.

I'd read that the most current drivers, the 93.71 drivers from November are causing an overheating problem and even destroying the video card from the heat. Perhaps this could be what caused your problem Nataku.
