Typical EAxis fail. I guess I'll try to see how hard it would be to unlock these things. It has become readily apparent that I have no idea what I'm doing. I got as far as finding the fence files in FullBuild0.package using s3pe, but even if I knew which generically named fence it was, I'd have no clue what to do next.
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Missing fence? on: 2009 July 16, 04:16:02
It doesn't need to be extracted; it's already in the game... It just needs to be fixed.
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Missing fence? on: 2009 July 15, 23:45:38

This fence, found in the Lone Wolff Manor, doesn't appear in the build mode catalog for some reason, and the eyedropper doesn't work on it. It matches the "Hardcore Railing" which is in the catalog and works with the eyedropper.

There is a "Hardcore Fence" in the catalog, but it's obviously not the same.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I think they could have the potential to be very amusing. For about five minutes.
5  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Does the Vegetarian Trait affect anything besides food choices? on: 2009 July 04, 10:46:35
I thought I was a relatively picky eater, but this thread has made me realize that I'm really not anymore. I eat meat, I eat tofu (even plain and raw), fish is delicious, peaches are awesome... My lack of variety in diet is almost entirely based on laziness rather than pickyness. I can't say I've ever tried a kiwi with the skin, but I think I will, assuming I don't forget between now and the next time I have a kiwi.

Rotating stairs (is that what you call them? The ones that go around.)

They're generally called "spiral staircases" or just "spiral stairs". "Rotating stairs" would imply that the stairs had angular momentum, which I can only imagine being logical in one of those carnival fun-house things with the wacky mirrors and spinning hallways, or perhaps if it were a spiral escalator.  Grin

I don't know much about macs but the only reason you to rename the N001 folder instead of deleting it is to have a back up. So if you never want it, go ahead and delete it. Probably fine to axe the tutorial too, but if you want to be sure just rename it and run the game. If it's all good, go ahead and delete it. If it buggers up, just name it back.
8  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Kleptos Only Stealing Light Fixtures on: 2009 June 23, 04:28:54
Positive moodlet and wish fulfillment. My sim is only klepto to give her some quirkiness so she mostly steals small stuff to fulfill the steal something wish, then keeps it until she gets a wish to give it back. Even if you steal for keeps, it's a nice alternative for things you didn't want and are barely worth selling. Although I've never even tried selling stolen goods. Can you sell stolen goods?
9  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Kleptos Only Stealing Light Fixtures on: 2009 June 23, 04:09:50
The lots reset every day at 3 p.m. and stolen objects get replaced (at least on community lots, haven't tested it on residential), or I would. But thanks.
Oh, that must be community only. What little klepto-ing I've done has been from peoples' yards and I don't think it's ever reappeared even if I send it back in the mail. Probably just sits in their family inventory

EDIT: How many lights are there? If you never get the painting even after using your first two to get lights out of the way, you might try finding an accomplice. That way you'll have six chances instead of three. I'm thinking my next generation might have to be a house full of kleptos...
10  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Kleptos Only Stealing Light Fixtures on: 2009 June 23, 03:33:40
The neighbors across the street from my sim inexplicably bought the best car in the game to park next to their shitty chairs and dishwasher... my sim is a klepto... you might guess how that ended.  Grin

Or so you'd think. I didn't have your problem, she swiped it fine, only it didn't show up in the family inventory. She even got a wish to give it back, but it wasn't in the list of things to return on the mailbox either. I loaded and tried again but still no luck. Haven't done any further testing but maybe grand theft auto is just broken.

For your problem I'd suggest you just steal a few lights and come back the next day. With fewer lights nearby you'll probably have better luck getting the painting.
11  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Reducing the Size of Your Sims 2 Installation on: 2009 May 03, 23:51:40
Would all this noticeably reduce the loading time? (I can't imagine why it might, but dumb cat is happy to be corrected edumacated.)
Well deleting the movies and Sims2Launcher.exe certainly makes the initial load shorter and substantially less annoying. It didn't seem to effect the frame rate and what-not for the short period of time I played before completely breaking breaking my game (As detailed in previous post, Though my sad fate is perfectly avoidable if you're aware of it).

EDIT: and if you're really weary of deleting things, you can redirect your shortcuts without actually deleting Sims2Launcher.exe and bypass the stupid thing that way.
12  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Reducing the Size of Your Sims 2 Installation on: 2009 May 03, 18:28:14
It's amazing how stupidly they managed EP & SP instalation... I have all EPs and SPs and shaved almost 3 gigs. I deleted TSBin and CSBin for everything except M&G and the game runs fine. Should you ever need to you can always grab them back from the game disk (or image Wink) anyway. Also, you can delete Sims2Launcher.exe, you just have to redirect your shortcuts. Because really, it's only purpose is to advertise L&P.

OK WOAH, not good... in the midst of making this post I put disk one of the original game in to make sure I was remembering correctly as to how easy it is to recover the TSBin folder, and it was unexpectedly disastrous. Because I had deleted the TSBin folder, the game didn't recognize that it was already installed, so it auto ran the installer. I didn't really think much of it so I hit cancel and went back to what i was doing. Now The Sims 2 folder is empty. Apparently, even though it hadn't actually started the installation process, it acted as if I had aborted mid-installation and it deleted the game. The expansions are still intact, but the game is gone. So in short: DO NOT INSERT THE DISK (or mount the image) OF ANY EP, SP, OR ORIGINAL GAME FOR WHICH YOU HAVE DELETED THE TSBIN FOLDER. Unless you have auto run turned off or something, in which case, just don't manually run it.

I'm pretty sure the maps work fine for custom vacation destinations. Just typical EAxis laziness that they didn't bother to make the map's text change for custom hoods.

hmm... I could have sworn I tried that... Stupid me.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Whats in your UserStartup.cheat File? on: 2008 October 25, 18:05:14
Here's my current userstartup.cheat file. I have yet to go through and steal from all of yours. Also I recently started my game from scratch and forgot to back up the cheat file so it's probably still missing some things I used to use, for example i used to have every acceptable value for the roof angle cheats (whole numbers anyway, not sure if it allows decimals) instead of just multiples of 5. Which is odd considering the fact that I've never used either of them even once.

On the subject of Castaway's water system, has anyone considered the possibility of an exe hack? One could probably also grab the ability to use the larger sized sc4 terrains as well, among other things.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Extracted Xbox files. (Now with actual files!) on: 2008 September 23, 20:33:01
Yeah, definitely not the UGS thing either... Notice that most of these .arc files have absolutely nothing to do with 3d models. They're just archives like .zip files, .rar files, .tar files, or the .package files we know and love.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Extracted Xbox files. (Now with actual files!) on: 2008 September 22, 17:30:19
Yeah, not with that specific tool, but that is exactly what i previously mentioned that they are most definitely not.
Quote from: Wikipedia
.arc is often also used as a file extension for several different file types that have in common that they are some kind of archive files.
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Extracted Xbox files. (Now with actual files!) on: 2008 September 22, 14:37:45
I've looked into it a little more, and as far I can tell, KOTOR on the XBox shares almost all it's filetypes with the PC version, no extra archives to get past, just folders with files in them. Although I think the directories are arranged a little differently. It even has the same .ini file if I'm not mistaken. Console games just don't have the kind of standardized file-types you might expect them to. That link is pretty funny, though a little long and drawn out if you've already played the game.

Also, a reminder to those with skills: I've uploaded two of the .arc files for your decoding pleasure. (see my last post or the first post for links)
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Extracted Xbox files. on: 2008 September 16, 01:17:51
Yeah I've actually extracted a few sound files from a Zelda Collector's Edition promotional disk for the GameCube myself, but Nintendo re-uses the same formats for a lot of it's games so i just used some converters that some guy had made for Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. The Sims 2, however, is not a Nintendo game and is likely to have the same .arc files on the game cube as it has on the Xbox. I guess i could try anyway, although my hard drives are a little full at the moment so I'm trying to avoid unnecessary downloads. What I meant is that I should try one of the other games, like Bustin' Out, or the Urbz and see if they have different file types because they're older. Even if they are different though I'll still almost definitely not be able to do anything with them myself. I really just posted this because I figured someone here might enjoy the challenge. Maybe if I turn it into a competition... First person to decode the .arc format gets an imaginary cookie! No? A picture of a cookie! Still no? Damn. I don't have any meaningful prizes to give... What the hell, I'll just upload some of them anyway. (The offer of a picture of a cookie still stands by the way.) Here's models.arc and textures.arc. As mentioned before, if you want one of the other files, or files from one of the other games, just say the word.
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Extracted Xbox files. on: 2008 September 14, 23:13:01
Why yes, yes I have. But they aren't that kind of .arc file. They are likely a completely custom file type. I should probably go ahead and Arr some of the other games, and see if they have the same file types.
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Extracted Xbox files. on: 2008 September 14, 16:59:40
Yep. That would be the plan, but so far no one with any experience in that kind of thing seems to have taken any interest in the project.
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Extracted Xbox files. on: 2008 September 12, 23:49:37
Use BBCode; this is a forum.
Ahh. I see. I almost never come out of lurkdom or even register on any forums, hence my ignorance of their workings. My bad.
24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Extracted Xbox files. on: 2008 September 12, 23:08:54
Actually I am familiar with the KOTOR II restoration efforts (that's another forum I've lurked on for quite some time), and although much of the cut content is left in the PC version, an entire cut planet was successfully extracted from the Xbox version. The problem is that the Xbox and PC versions of KOTOR are essentially the exact same game and I doubt much, if any, format conversion had to be done, whereas The Sims 2 was significantly altered or even completely remade when they ported it to the consoles, as Fat D mentioned.

i cant see why riping a mesh of an object would be impossbile. there must be some way to get objects from it. Huh Huh Huh

It's not impossible, the problem is that I have no clue how to do it. That's exactly why I posted this here. I was hoping someone could have a look at one of these files in a hex editor or whatever you would use, and see if they could decode the format. I personally have no experience whatsoever with that kind of thing.

As a side note, I fail at html and have no idea why my links aren't showing up right.

Edit: to fix my forum code fail. I feel stupid now.
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Extracted Xbox files. on: 2008 September 11, 18:43:24
ummm... no.

Technically the term ROM isn't even applicable to games that come on a disk. What I've done is taken a disk image (sometimes incorrectly called a ROM) that someone else already ripped, and used a program called XBox ISO Reader to extract the files from it. So I'm already a few steps past "making a rom".
