My Investigator has been a pain to play: if I want him to actually do something with the case he has received I have to watch him. If I take my camera away he will abandon what he was supposed to do for any other task. Conversely my Ghost Hunter, Stylist and Architect will get on with the task at hand.
Hmm... I bet good money on that he has the absent-minded trait. Those sims you have to keep your eyes on or they forget where they are and what they're doing. That's a feature, not a bug.

About the running bug. I started playing last night again, but now the running bug have infected my whole hood. No one is standing still. If I direct my sims to a community lot she runs there, then lots of townies come running into the lot, only to turn around and leave running again. The streets are filled with running sims, and when I do home decorations as a part of my job, the clients run around to do the checkups and then promptly run away.
Gawd it is frustrating.
I finally had enough and created a new hood, with a new incarnation of the same sim. Got her a regulare non-profession job so I could play on high speed, and after 5 days she also started running out of the blue. After that I gave up, and rebooted the game and started building instead. To me, this is as much of a game stopping bug as the jump bug was in TS2.

During last nights gaming session my sim also started running everywhere. It's most annoying. She even started running to the city hall when I directed her to go there, even though she was across town and had the scooter in her inventory.
She runs from the fridge to the counter, and from the counter to the stove, though they're only 1 tile apart. It's silly actually, and like I said, most annoying cause it makes it impossible to take good pictures unless she's standing absolutely still.
Edit to add: I don't have AM so that's not the cause. It must be a game bug.

There seems to be a bug in action regarding certain professions and the inventory and the family inventory, causing items to get permanently stuck and unusable. We are so far two players who are in the Architectural Design career, that have gotten stuff stuck in our family inventories. We have even recreated our sims and started a new vanilla hood to make sure it isn't a cc conflict, but the bug keeps reappering.
As far as we've been able to determine, it happens when our sims perform a renovation as our profession. When the game automaticly goes into buy/build mode, all stuff in our regulare inventory gets transferred to the family inventory under buy mode. Once the renovation is over, the stuff gets transferred back to the regulare inventory, and this is were the bug happens. Some things get stuck in the family inventory, and becomes unusable. You cannot highlight it, or move it, and all attmepts to reset it like playing a few days, or have your sims do different things, like taking a vacation, will not unstick it.
There's alo another player in the (I think) Inventor profession, who was going through the junk at the junkyard and found a "globe sculpture". It went into her personal inventory and not into the family inventory and there it became stuck the same way as the items did for us in the family inventory.
Anyway, Leigh and I am at our witts end, and we have tried "everything", at least everything we can think of, so now we have to turn to the community with this and hopefully someone can make a fix for it.
Edit to add: I don't know if this is a valid observation or not, because we don't have all that much data to go on yet, but it seems like more "regulare" inventory items don't get stuck, instead it's things like laptops, scooters, bikes, electric guitars and things that aren't the more common inventory items.

I haven't been active in the community for years now. But someone emailed me and informed me that I had the honour of making it to that list. The really funny thing though is, that while I did create a TSR account back in TS1 days, I have never even once subscribed to that site, so what the heck am I supposed to have shared? My guess is that my name made it to that list since TSR on a regulare basis have stole my stuff and had members post it as their creations in the past, and when I have told them about it and asked to have my stuff removed, or at least be given credit, I have been meet with defening silence at best, or rude replies that there's no way to prove that the suff is created by me.
Anyway, only thing to do about this, is to point my finger and laugh at them. Do anyone really take them seriously anymore, besides themselves I mean?

Okay, thank you Jolrei. I start with trying to just remove my cc windows. They're all by Windkeeper btw, and I have had them for ages without any problems, but I just recently installed FT and M&G, and it was after that this happend, so perhaps her windows doesn't like those Ep's?

Okay, after a total clean install my vanilla game worked properly. As soon as I put my downloads folder back in, my pets once again sank through the ground after just a few seconds gameplay. I've tried the 50/50 method, but just can seem to pin-point the exact object or hack I'm having problems with. I created a error log file using testingcheatsenabled... Can someone help me figure out what object or hack is causing the problem from this log?

The UI just adds the extra Sims on like it normally would. You alternate between Sims the normal way.
Okay, thank you Sol. I just imagined that with 50 sims, there would be kinda crowded in the UI.

Which inconsistencies? 35 sims + 15 pets = 50 inhabitants total. Makes sense in my eyes.
Like I said in my reply above... Now it makes sense since I got it explained to me.

Thank you Mim, that makes sense. But can one actually enter those lots an play the families, or are they just for sharing purposes? And also, if a family already consists of 8 members, can they get pregnant again and exceed that number? If so, what happens to the UI, and how to you alternate between that many sims?

As I've mentioned before... I've been away from the community for over a year. Anyway, suddenly a discussion abot userStartup.cheat files started at my regulare forum. As it turns out, folks have these lines below pasted into their userStartup.cheat file, but no one knows what they do. They just saw them somewhere and pasted them into their files. I can't do that without knowing exatly what they do, but no one can say, except for a vauge "they let us have more sims". Uh? This is what they've pasted into their userStartup files... boolProp allow45degreeAngleOfRotation true intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims 20 uintProp maxTotalSims 50 uintProp maxTotalHumans 35 uintProp maxTotalPets 15 I just can't wrap my head around that... intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims 20 = used to be the total number of visiting sims you can have on a lot at one time (I have that one myself in my userStartup since long ago)
uintProp maxTotalSims 50 = this one they vaugely claim is to allow a sim family to consist of 50 sims instead of the default 8 (if that's true, why would anyone want that?)
uintProp maxTotalHumans 35 = if the above is true, then what does this do?
uintProp maxTotalPets 15 = this is supposedly to allow the pets of any family to be 15 instead of the default 4? Why the crazy numbers, and all the inconsistancies? Wouldn't the game explode into a BFBVFS with that many contradictions? Hope someone can clear this up for me... Someone who actually knows what these codes mean. I tried Googeling it, but just got hits to peoples userStartup files, but no explanations.

Hiya guys. I've come back to the game, and to the community after being on hiatus for over a year. Anyway, I made a real bobo the other day, and uninstalled AL because the game wouldn't start up for me, and in the proccess my entire, unbackupped downloads folder. I simply don't have time to chase all hacks individually for instance, as I want to get on plying. Therefor I just grabbed Pesky's Directors Cut.zip to save me some time, as I don't dare to start the game without his fixes. Anyway, in it I found some hacks with names that sounds totally unfamiliar to me, and I'm not sure I wanna use them without knowing what they do. Pesky and I may have different opinions about what is annoying, and they may kill a feature I like. So I hope you guys can help tell me what those hacks o, cause I can't find any info on them on this site. antiflycatching.package antivisitcampus.package rpshack.package shoonobreakgroup.package skillinator.package

Well, MaxoidViolet have now edited her post. If it made things any clearer, Im not so sure about though. Since SMBelchie banned the majority of the BBS'ers with an IQ above their shoe size, I have a hard time believing that those sheeps that are allowed to remain there, will understand the instructions. Author: MaxoidViolet - Rank: Tongue-Tied Tourist - View MySimPage Profile Date: Oct-08-07 11:50 AM PDT (updated Oct-08-07 02:06 PM PDT) Subject: Removing SecuROM from your System Mood: There are two types of SecuROM files that you may be dealing with on your system: the intergrated exe file, and the license files. I know some of you are worried about having SecuROM 'installed' on your machine so I just wanted to explain where it lives and how to remove it if you choose to do so. EXE Files The software is integrated with the game exe files so that when you activate an exe to install or run the game, it makes its copy protection check. In this case, if you wanted to remove SecuROM, it is simply part of the game and an be removed by uninstalling the game. License Files The digital version does require that some files are installed on the machine. This is because the digital version grants licenses through the Download Manager. The disk version grants license files when it authenticates the disk. You may find a 'SecuROM' folder that contains these licenses as well as a readme. SecuROM offers an uninstaller for the SecuROM licenses if you'd like to remove them from your system. However, these licenses will be replaced if you try to run the game again, as you will be granted another SecuROM license when the game is authenticated versus your disk (disk version) or account (digital version). SecuROM License Uninstaller (This is from SecuROM and not from EA/Sims so please contact SecuROM support with any questions about the use of this Uninstaller.): http://www.securom.com/support/SecuROM_Uninstaller.zip SecuROM's instructions for using the Uninstaller: "Please download it, extract the application file and follow the instructions below: - The easiest way of using this tool is to copy the SecuROM_Uninstaller.exe file into your C:\ directory. - Open the Windows command box by pressing and selecting the option. Now type 'cmd' (without apostrophes) and press on the keyboard. - Type: 'cd\' (without apostrophes) and press on the keyboard. - Please type: SecuROM_Uninstaller.exe /uninstall - A dialog box will appear. To start the SecuROM uninstallation, press the button." Other Notes on SecuROM Installation Please note that I didn't mention any sort of SecuROM drivers that replace your normal drivers or other mysterious communications that SecuROM has to perform from your machine. The way SecuROM is setup with our games (and this may be different from other situations you've researched) is so that it is activated by using the game exe files so it can verify that it is safe and proper to run the game. If you are having issues with your system that you think may be related to SecuROM please be sure to check out the other stickies for steps on reporting your issue so that we can help you! I hope this helps to answer your questions! ~Violet

I hope this helps to answer your questions! ~Violet Well, it does seem like they have absolutely no idea over at EAxis what SecuROM is or what it does, as the above statment is absolutely false. Lies and propaganda, as you would say here. The disc version installs THREE registry keys on our systems. First the key with the disputed rootkit behaviour, the infamous "SECUROM - CANNOT DELETE ME" key, plus the two HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SecuROM and HKEY_USERS\<Computer specific key>\Software\SecuROM keys. And in addition to those three keys, there's also one folder at C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Administrator name>\Application Data\Securom Furthermore, those who didn't install and ran the game from an administrator account on their pc's also have 2 windows services running.

Okay, well here's where I get to have a blonde moment too and admit that I don't know how to use my own file. lol
Ha ha ha... Yeah, we all have those blond moments. Now, at least, I feel less dumb. I guess I for now, leave both files in and keep on watching this thread to see if you or Curious Spurious or someone else have figured this out. Your file is on 397 kB and Curious Spurious file is on 548 kB, and that makes me suspect that she might have included the things from your file as well. But that's just an assumtion made by the size of the files.

I'm having a serious Swedish, blond moment here, so please bare with me. Since I'm Swedish, I sometimes have a hard time to understand directions like these in English. I have downloaded the Clothing Equality Mod and delted the elder clothing hide.package since I don't want that function... so far so good. But then I get confused, the Clothing Equality Mod contains a file called Maxis adult clothes for A YA & E.package. But since I also own both NL and OFB, I've also downloaded Curious Spurious addition Maxis adult clothes for A YA & E (NL-OFB).package. Now to that part were I get confused... should I have both Maxis adult clothes for A YA & E.package and Maxis adult clothes for A YA & E (NL-OFB).package in my game, or should I only use the latter one that Curious Spurious made? Edited to add... I forgot to say thank you for this game modification... How rude of me.
