TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Late Night Bars & Showtime Venues
|
on: 2012 April 27, 03:11:41

Is it possible for one lot to serve both functions and still behave properly? Meaning, if I build a lot with all the necessary items for a Showtime performance venue but label it as a Bar/Lounge, will both Performers and Bands be able to get gigs at that location? Also, does it work the other way around; can bands get gigs at lots assigned as Coffehouse or Live Show Venue? Do I need two separate stages for the two types or will bands perform on a platform with the stage item placed on it? I'm trying to conserve space by combining as many comm lots as possible, but I'd rather not do all the work only to find out I broke it somewhere along the line.
I've searched high and low but there's not a lot of information out there on Showtime, yet. If anyone has any other tips about building your own Venues from scratch, I'd love to hear them.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: KT's Store Fixes (updated 03.25.2012)

Sorry, I've been away for a long while, and have regressed back to a complete noob, so this problem could totally be on my end, but I thought I'd give it shot and see if it's not just me.
I downloaded all of the Store items and converted them to .package files. With the Romanza Bridal Party fix intalled several Store outfits make the sim's torso and thighs invisible. Without the fix, everything is working fine. I'm pretty sure I have everything set up correctly; I merged all Store clothing into one huge file and stuck it in Mods/Packages and I have the fix in Mods/Overrides. ATM, the only CC I have is awesomemod, the Store fixes, and the Store clothing, so, I don't think it could be a conflict or anything. I did not decrap the Store files before converting/merging, I just ran them through s3rc. I've read that it's necessary to decrap fixes if you decrapped the Store stuff, but does that matter if I did not decrap?

It's funny, I just had it come back in my game a few days ago, had to search for a solution, and the only one that worked was the one I posted, last year, right above yours. Lowering sound quality worked like a charm. You might also want to get twallan's Overwatch because it shuts off unused TV's and radios in your hood and this also seems to help in my game. I still get the bug but it's much rarer after taking those two steps.

No, placing markers on the porches has no effect at all. The 3-tile rooms were necessary in order to make the option appear to "mark as NPC door". I think it's just impossible with a foundation. It seems that, no matter what, the game will not recognize a raised porch as part of the unit unless it is completely enclosed without any stairs. Placing stairs automatically makes it a public space. Good to know for future building, I guess.

I built 2 identical homes, side-by-side, on one lot and made them into apartments. My problem is that the front and back porches count as public space no matter what I do, while the the front and back yards are correctly labeled as private. Does anyone know what changes I should make to this to make the porches count as part of the unit?

Like Kawaii, I love that it's one-story. It's hard to find one-story lots with 2 beds and 2 baths and space to walk around. The style of the exterior would fit in nicely with the pre-builts in the Dogwood area of Riverview, too.

I had to stick a desk and chair right next to the mail box to write thank you notes. This of course looks stupid, but it was the only way. In my experience, it's not necessary to stick a desk next to the mailbox, I just had to send the sim to stand near a clear desk (nothing blocking the area where they will be writing) then click "write thank you notes" on the mailbox. The sim will walk to the nearest desk, sit down, and start writing. It doesn't work for me if there isn't a clear desk in whatever room they happen to be standing in when the order is given, they'll just walk out to the mailbox and queue-drop.

In my experience, when building apartments in Bridgeport, items placed that went toward the rent seemed to be given at a discount, (sorry, can't remember how much) but in Riverview, you pay full price for all items placed in a private room. So, this "one single room" apartment was originally almost 5k until I wanded it down to about 2500. I'm pretty sure that if you've placed all the markers correctly you won't end up paying for the whole lot, as I've got a bunch of crap in the public areas of this place, way more than 2500 worth.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Plots / Low Water Pub - Dive Bar for Riverview
|
on: 2011 June 16, 05:12:26
|
I just came back to the game after a really long hiatus and after getting sick of Bridgeport, I went back to my old fave, Riverview. I'm currently in the process of converting old homes into bars and clubs that fit in with the town. I converted the trailer home "Low Water" on 50 Ely Road into a Dive Bar to fit in with the low-income look of that part of town. It turned out pretty decent IMHO, so I thought I'd see if anyone else would want it in their game. In an attempt to make the place look as low-key and low-budget as possible, I went easy on the decorating, so the lot is pretty light on CC (3 deco items from MTS and 1 store item) and I ended up only using items from the base game, AMB, and LN. The only thing I changed on the outside was the color of the siding and the decks. Other than that, the original exterior is intact. I tore down the walls inside, so the bar is pretty open with just one unisex restroom with 2 stalls. For entertainment, there's the bar, a stage w/ instruments, one arcade game, a foosball table, darts, and a small TV with benches on the back porch. Pics: I have all EP/SP's and I'm fully patched up to 1.22, but as I said earlier, I only used items from the base game, AMB, and LN, if that matters. CC recommended but not required*: Cigarettes and ashtray by lemoncandy at MTSGin and whiskey bottles by lemoncandy at MTSDaily Specials Chalkboard by daluved1 at MTSThe Never-Spill Bucket Store item (I can't remember which set it's from.) *I used Delphy's CUSTARD to clean the lot but It's My First Day, so please let me know if that attempt was full of fail. Any other feedback would also be greatly appreciated. I'm also working on rebuilding "The Water Hole Juice Bar" to a LN-compatible Watering Hole, from the ground-up, converting the warehousey-looking pool into a dance club, and converting the rowhouse "Plum Place" to an antiquey consignment store, so if there's any interest, I could upload those, too, when done.

Has anyone tried lowering the sound quality without doing anything to the bikes, and seeing if that helps? I have and this just results in the bug occuring slightly less frequently than doing nothing at all, for me. It still seems to happen no matter what, but doing both (ditching bikes and lowering sound quality) lowers the frequency to tolerable levels. YMMV, though.

I know I'll regret asking, but how exactly, Jeeves et al (and this includes you, OpiumDeluded, with your "it may not be spelled *correct* per se, but meh, if Urban Dicktionary approves it that's good enuff 4 me!"), were you planning to otherwise spell said phrase in contention? I was thinking the same thing. I've graded quite a few papers written by borderliners and I've NEVER seen it spelled any other way. I just assumed the spelling was too simple to botch for people smart enough to hold a pencil. I, too, would like to see an example of such botching. To help with the OP's original problem, I can offer you my experiences but YMMV; I only had to patch base game up to a certain point to install WA, the rest went fine without patching. The instructions for how far I had to patch came with the torrent.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Laundry Borked (?)
|
on: 2010 August 29, 16:08:02

If you leave clothes in the dryer, you'll be able to remove them at any time to reset the timer. Yes, but in my game, sometimes, if I leave clothes in the dryer, the timer never runs out, so it never needs to be reset. At other times, removing clothes from the dryer does absolutely nothing. When this happens, I've even tried letting the laundry build up again for a few days, waiting until the hamper is full, but I still don't get the moodlets, after removing clothes from the dryer or line, when the sims sleep or change. Also, just to make sure I'm thoroughly confused, some sims can go an unusually long time w/o doing laundry and keep the moodlets. I think Dienvae may be on to something in that most of my households that have laundry issues have more than one sim, so more than one hamper. Except, the current fambly I'm playing has 3 sims, 2 hampers, and 0 problems. Also, the first fambly where I noticed an issue had only 2 sims and 1 hamper. So, basically, it's random as fuck. If it matters, the mods I'm using are: nointro, same energy gain for beds, stuff on fridge, twoftmama's teen woohoo, and awesomemod. All are up to date and working properly. I could try removing mods for testing, but as the issue is so random, I'm not sure what good that would do.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Laundry Borked (?)
|

A while ago, I discovered that, in some families, leaving clean clothes in the dryer gives you the clean clothes and sheets moodlets, indefinitely; in some families laundry must be done almost every day to keep the the moodlets; and in some families, you can do nothing but laundry all day and never get the moodlets. So, my question is WTF? There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. The number of sims in the family doesn't seem to have any impact on which flavor of the "laundry situation" I'm going to get, nor does the quality of the equipment. Since I've only been playing WA and Ambitions for about a week, I have no idea what "normal" is supposed to be.
I'm pretty sure the cheatiness of leaving clean clothes in the dryer for "perma-clean" is a bug, along with some sims never getting the moodlets, no matter what, but I think I need a standard of how it's supposed to work before I can start trying to fix it. Also, the "laundry situation" can randomly change in any given family, at any given time. So, a family who once got away with "perma-clean" can suddenly lose the moodlets, no matter how often they do laundry, but then a few days later it'll come back with the "laundry every other day" flavor. The only time the system seems to work properly is with sims who do not own any laundry equipment and get their fix at the laundromat. With these sims, about one visit to the laundromat a week is sufficient to keep the moodlets going.
So, can someone more awesome than me tell me how the laundry system is supposed to work, please? I would guess that sims should only be doing laundry once every few days, but that happens rarely in my game. What I'd like to know is if my experiences are "normal" or is my game just borked?

I've been experiencing this bug quite often and from my learnings I think that adults using bikes exacerbates the issue, but doesn't cause it. With one family who only have the cheap car, and don't own any bikes, I had this bug occasionally, but with a bike-owning sim it happens every couple of minutes. Also, I noticed that some people are saying the sound comes back on eventually and some people say the game crashes when the sound goes. For me, it's either/or, randomly, so I just save immediatly whenever it happens and then reload. I just had my 5th crash in 30 minutes so I just sold the bike and set the the sound quality to low, as Entgleichen suggested and will see if that helps.

Thanks for the tip, I went and ahead and made a tester sim to do just that, and this sim was able to enter the building and finish a full day of work without dropping the action. When I went back to the original sim she was also able to use the office building with no problems, so my guess is that just switching families will fix this issue. Seems like a wierd fix for a wierd bug, but hey, whatever works. Thanks again for the tip.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Queue dropping while at work (Fixed)
|
on: 2010 August 23, 14:21:19

I'm playing the Twinbrooks neighborhood for the first time with no CC, except for awesomemod. My sim had just reached level 4 in the Journalism career track when the issue started. Basically, she goes to work, walks into the rabbit hole, and then the action will drop from the queue. I can keep re-selecting the building and choose "work", but it just keeps dropping, and the sim just stands inside the rabbit hole, idle, until I use "go here" to put her on the sidewalk. This problem only occurs with the office building, all other rabbit holes are working properly. I've reached the end of the internets (page 5 or 6 of several Google searches) trying to find a mention of someone else experiencing this, with no luck, and I'm hoping someone here either knows what's causing it or can point me in the right direction for figuring it out. In my experience, stuff like this is usually caused by bad CC, but I don't have any.
Relevant Info (?): I have both EP's and the SP and only awesomemod for CC. I've been away from the Sims for a while, and I'm a little rusty on how to go about reporting bugs and errors properly, so if more info is needed, please let me know.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Crash to Desktop w/ Woohoo
|
on: 2009 October 08, 13:51:35
|
Ok, I am posting as a last resort here, I swear!
The problem: Sometimes when I direct 2 of my sims to woohoo, be it in bed or standing up, I get a crash to desktop. With the first crash, I removed the first thing that seemed obvious, Teen Woo-hoo, and re-did my AM config to set that to false. Reloaded, and it crashed again, so I went back into mods and removed any hacks that might affect beds. The only one I had was the NRaaS Sleep Freedom hack. I removed this with the intention of doing a binary search if this also failed. I reload, and the bed is gone, and the sims are just standing where the bed was. I figured, "case closed", bought a new bed, and continued playing. I played for a while, leaving those 2 hacks out since I wasn't playing any teens anyway. After about 3 or 4 sim days, it just randomly starts up again, but with a twist; inconsistency. Now, removing any mod at random has an equal chance of "solving" the problem as doing nothing. So, now it appears a binary search would be useless since the problem seems to disappear via voodoo.
I should also say that it doesn't always crash at the initial direction to woohoo. Sometimes it's as soon as I tell them to go at it, sometimes it's during, sometimes immediately after, and sometimes they sleep, wake up, get out of bed, and then it crashes. But it always follows whatever pattern that was started when I reload, and it only happens when someone has gotten laid or is about to. So, if it crashes the morning after, when I reload, it will either crash again at the same point or not at all.
Search is absolutely no help, so I'm just hoping someone else knows WTF is going on here.
ETA: I went ahead and tried a binary search anyway, but had to quit to save my sanity. It's completely fucking random. I removed all "hacks" and it was fixed. Put them all back, still fixed. Removed half, broken. Remove that half, put in other half, broken. Put all back, broken. Do nothing, fixed. This is driving me nuts.

I haven't tried it yet, but from the screenshots on the site it appears that, yes, you build whatever you want, and then strategically place one of the signs to designate the building as a particular rabbit hole.
