TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: EP advice?

Yeah, FT added the secondary wants. To me, Seasons and Free Time are a must. Both of them add things that are visible in the lives of the sims, no matter how you play the game. With OFB, BV, and AL, the expansions are less pervasive, but are nice options to have if you want them. Personally, I don't really use the OFB or AL features, but I have them simply for the extra items and interactions that came with the packs. BV I use more often, but you might not, depending on your play style. As for LTWs, the only ones I can think of off the top of my head are the "Have 5 top businesses" LTW for fortune sims.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Bad memory of an engagement
|
on: 2008 December 24, 03:53:21

I know that most romance sims will get a negative memory attatched to engagement or marriage. However, the other day, a family sim of mine got engaged, and I noticed she recieved a bad memory of it. Her fiancee is a fortune sim, and they both had three lightning bolts for each other. Does anyone know why she would have gotten a bad memory? Does it have to do with zodiac signs or something?

May be Politics can unlock the ability to select stuff with the Lifetime Aspiration points and second aspiration?
Ooh, that's a good idea. Those restrictions could also be limited by other things (as mentioned earlier in the thread). Politics could work like the Law career - before you lift Politics those other restrictions could only be temporarily lifted (i.e. by sims currently alive), but if they're unlocked after Politics, the restrictions can be permanently lifted, including for sims not yet born. I like that idea. What if the first two columns, the Needs and Work columns were affected by Politics, and there could be various others, depending on the aspiration of the sim. Lifting that restriction could open up that aspiration's benefits, and the ability for it to be chosen as a secondary aspiration. Knowledge could be Education, Popularity could be Slacker, Wealth could be Business, Pleasure could be Slacker, Romance could be Show Business, and maybe Family could be Law Enforcement. I'm not too sure about the last one though.

Comfort soup would obviously be covered by the Culinary restriction. As for the knowledge perks... Education? Didn't FT add new careers too, or am I getting it mixed up with another EP? At this point the challenge would just be crazy complicated. (As for the "great week" mood boost- you survived a week in a fallout zone. I guess you'd feel a bit accomplished.) Yeah, there's several careers, like oceanography, , architecture, intelligence, and dance. I don't even want to try to think up restrictions for some of those.

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / I can has zombie problem nao?

So I was playing a sim in collage, and as she went about, I noticed a dormie that was passed out in the computer room. Normally I wouldn't care, but this one hadn't moved or even woken up for about five semesters. So I go into debug mode, and make him selectable, to see what's going on. From his queue, it looked like he was going to the secret society, but passed out on his way to the door or something? I didn't really pay attention. But I canceled the action, and he woke up. Unfortunately, seeing as four of his bars were bottomed out, he promptly died of hunger. My sim tried to plead for his life, but to no avail. A semester later, my character made it into the secret society, and decided to resurrect the dormie, simply because I had never used the Resurrect-O-Nomitron. The dormie comes back as a zombie. I made him unselectable, and figured he'd figure things out, as most townies do. Wrong. He followed my sim back to the dorm, where I again made him unselectable. Now, he randomly pops back up as selectable. When I make him unselectable, he leaves than comes back a little while later as a selectable member of the household. Is there any way I can just make him a dormie again or something?
Tl;dr I have a zombie that won't go away, because I fail at resurrecting. Halp?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Killing off a sim

The danger is not with the lot; rather, it's the "code baggage" the occupying sim brings with her. Some of these EA pre-loaded families/sims/lots are just fine, but others have errors in their family ties and so forth that will start to cause problems in your 'hood.
Oh, okay. So which ones aren't good to play?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Killing off a sim
|

Before I discovered MATY, I moved a sim into one of the pre-made pre-owned houses that came with Pets. However, from what I've read, using pre-owned houses will bork my game. Now normally, I'd just delete the sim using the batbox, but I'd really prefer not to, because she's my Legacy heir's aunt, and I'd rather everyone keep their memories of her if possible. Is it alright if I play the house and kill her off, or am I forced to delete her entirely?
Tl;dr: How badly will playing a pre-occupied lot bork my game?

You might have accidentally downloaded a lot or something that came with a hack. The same thing happened to me about a month back, and it turned out to be a hack. I don't know how it got in my downloads folder, but it was there.

Serious Business / Spore Discussions / My creatures aren't there!
|
on: 2008 September 27, 00:39:10

Okay, so I installed Spore on my laptop (which is plagued with vista at the moment), and I went to play the game. The thing is, when I go to play cell mode, none of the creatures show up. It's just the background, without the cell or anything. I'm pretty sure it's not just invisible, cause the screen doesn't move when I use the arrow keys or anything... I've tried updating the image drivers and changing the graphics settings ingame, but it doesn't help. Maybe you all know something about this?

I don't know anything about the terminal error you're getting, but I feel as if I should warn you about the townie creator. Even if you decide not to keep the townies it spawns, the files are still there, and will clutter your sim folder if you turn down alot. I did this in my game and the load times doubled next time I played. Thankfully, I'm finally free of all those useless files, and I'm never making that mistake again Yeah, I noticed that my load times are longer, but how do I delete the townies without borking my game?

Stuff that may or may not have been introduced with FT: BFFs. I know it's silly, but it makes the daily grind of maintaining friendships much less of a hassle. BFFs did come with FT, and I detest it muchly. Thank Jebus and the FOJ for 'BFFsAreFor12s'. Hell, just the few each of my sims manages to rack up within that time is enough to drive me fricking batty. Oy, the endless self-invites! If a BFF would invite herself over, maybe, once a week or so, I'd be fine with that, but I have one house where no less than 3 BFFs wander in every. single. day. That's way too damned much! Especially since relationships are supposed to be decaying more slowly, so why do these nimrods need to come over every damned day? Especially when all they're going to do is plop themselves down on the couch and hog the telly Watching Movies while I'm trying to get my sims to pay attention to the Yummy Channel and get a skill point or two? Wow... I've never had that problem with BFFs. Mine call a bit, but they don't come over constantly. Maybe it helps that I only let my sims make friends with people in the college they went to...

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Idiot questions about townies.

Not necessarily 'easier', but many of us make our own townies using CAS, putting the resulting sim on an empty lot, and using Inge's teleporter cat to turn them into a townie. Many MATYians are townies in my game this way.
Thanks. I used the teleporter cat and it worked. but the game just gave me a terminal error again... I haven't put anything new in the game, except for a few sets of clothing, but they wouldn't do that, would they? I have everything except AL...

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Idiot questions about townies.
|
on: 2008 September 05, 10:37:26

Two things. One, I was playing around with the Townie creator, and I accidentally clicked "show all townies". I quit the lot without saving and played a Uni lot. After about an hour of playing, a window popped up saying that my game had a terminal error, and that it needed to quit. Is this a VBT?
Other thing, is there an easier way to make a townie than the Townie creator?
Thanks.

Food or trash gone bad. Place them in a field with a one space buffer around each pile, as sims have to step over the trash to roll odds for the death.
Oh, okay. So a 1x3 room with a rotting food in the middle will work? And what are the chances of it happening?

Mmkay, two questions here. 1) What's the best way to do death by flies (without boolprop, if possible) 2) I boolprop'd a death by flies on a sim that was permaplat, but she didn't get the platnum grave. Any particular reason for this, and can I fix that somehow?
Gracias.
