1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Parallels vs. Bootcamp? on: 2011 February 19, 07:38:10
Snoopy, thanks so much.  That's EXACTLY the kind of feedback I was looking for, especially re: the reboot annoyance since that's my biggest concern about Bootcamp.  Flashing graphics is fail - looks like it's Bootcamp for me!   Smiley
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Parallels vs. Bootcamp? on: 2011 February 15, 20:57:34
I own an Intel-based MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.  My partner recently gave me a shiny new copy of Windows 7, meaning I can now finally experience all the Sims 2 goodness previously denied me.  But after researching both Parallels and Bootcamp, I'm uncertain as to which is the better option for Sims 2 gaming.

On the one hand, Parallels offers the convenience of switching back and forth between TS2 and the business-type stuff I daily use my laptop for - it'll be something of a pain in the ass to reboot the machine every single time I want to switch between the two.  On the other hand, I imagine that Bootcamp might provide a superior gaming experience.  I'm slightly concerned that playing TS2 through Parallels might cause lag and that'll piss me off.

Any thoughts and/or suggestions?  Tales from Mac users playing TS2 under either one?

Thanks for the info!  To be honest, I never bothered to try them in my game "as is".  I'm so used to EA Store stuff not working that I just automatically chucked them in a folder on my Desktop and waited for a "fix".   Embarrassed

You know what they say about assuming stuff - I clearly made an ass out of myself in this instance!   Tongue  Will check the objects in my game and post back if I have issues.

The object flags may need to be set to base game for those objects.  I've been hoping someone would need/want to reset the flags for the Art Nouveaulicious collection; since without the flags being reset, we Mac users (and other Simmers who don't have all EPs/SPs) don't stand much chance of getting these objects to work in our games.

I've been working on them as fixes have come out.  Unfortunately, very few of the remaining objects show up with just a flag change: the arm chair, dining chair, and one floor lamp.

Thanks for the work!  Any additional objects I can get to work in my game are always a bonus.  I'll throw these into my game, hold onto the other objects in case we Mac users ever see another EP, and update my post from the previous thread so there's a complete list for linking.

Would someone be willing to set the flags for these objects to base game?  Right now, very few of the objects are showing up for the Mac game configuration (EPs up through BV plus FFS, GLS, and Holiday SPs).  The objects that ARE working are both end tables, the coffee table, both dressers (fixed by Lord Darcy), and the bed (fixed by Lord Darcy).

Lord Darcy, I was also wondering if you'd be willing to take a look at the Castle bed from the medieval stuff that was released.  Seelindaran tried to make it base game compatible but wasn't able to get it to work.  However, since you were obviously successful with the Asian Fusion one, I thought you might be able to work some magic on the Castle one as well.

And for what it's worth, I think using Paypal to gather Sims Store funds is a great idea.  Mac users, even if they are in North America, can't purchase from the store either.  If you add up all the users from outside North America and all the Mac users, you have a huge pool of people who have been enjoying the Sims Store bounty and would be willing to contribute to the cause but aren't able to access the Store themselves.  EA has stated that their plan is to release a new Store set each month - it's just not right for that financial burden to rest on only a few shoulders.

seelindarun, previous post has been edited.  Link away!

PB, the Sims 2 Store items that have not worked in my game to date are:

EDIT: All Sims Store build and buy objects now work in game thanks to the efforts of seelindarun and the wisdom of Lord Darcy.

My game includes the following EPs and SPs: Uni, NL, OFB, Pets, Seasons & BV; FFS, GL & Happy Holiday.

Figured it was shorter and neater to list what DIDN'T work than what did.   Wink

Is there any chance you could also do the deco & cubic desk chairs? And the spooky set? (Only the small gargoyle, streetlight, and wall light show up for me.) Please please please?

Snoopy, the items you mention do not currently work for Macs.  As I understand it, they need resources from one of the EPs we don't have yet in order to work properly.  The Castle bed and treasure chest are the same way, which is why seelindarun didn't include those objects when he/she changed the object flags for this most recent set.

I'm having similar issues with Sims Store objects showing up in my game.  I'm a Mac user, so I have all Sims EPs and SPs that are out for Macs (EPs through BV, plus FFS, GLS, and Holiday).  All Cubic and Deco objects show up with the exception of the dining chairs.  Most of the Spooky objects don't (with a couple of exceptions).  So I'm basically having the same results as seelindarun.

Given that, I expected to have all Castle objects show up in my game except for the bed and chest.  But I currently don't have a single Castle object showing up.  I have no idea if this has to do with base game flags or not - SimPE isn't available for native Mac environments, so I can't check this out or fix this problem on my own.  Do the objects posted in this thread have base game flags?  If not, is this something someone might be able to help me out with?

Many, many thanks for any and all help.

You need a decompressor that supports .7z files, here is one that is compatible with Macs: Download. It also supports .zip files.

Files downloaded and decompressed - everything worked perfectly.  Thanks guys!

knightguy, I'm unfamiliar with the 7z format in which your Elder Enabled hairs are posted.  I seem to remember that it's another file compression format, but the Stuffit Expander on my Mac doesn't recognize it.  Is there a specific de-compressor that I need to have to open 7z files - a de-compressor that works with Macs?

Thanks for the help!  And apologies for the brief thread hijacking...   Wink

Rhidavies, the file you linked seems to contain the exact same skin files as before - 26 Adult Female outfits, 11 Adult Male outfits, 6 Teen Female outfits, and the SCSkins and SC_Hair_Outfits bundles.

Awesome - thanks!  $20 is a complete rip-off (especially considering all the problems it's caused you), so you've more than done your charitable giving!   Wink

TashaFaun, thanks so much for fixing the clothing borkedness!  Does this include the teen female exclusive clothing or male and female exclusives only?  I'm away from my Sims computer at the moment (so I can't boot up and check for myself) and just want to keep my "Want" list up-to-date.  Thanks again!

Just had to unlurk to thank everyone for pirating and fixing these exclusive Store items.  The Store itself is a pathetic testament to EAxis's manifesto of money-grubbing.  But the fact that the items being sold are so borked, that legitimately downloaded stuff isn't showing up - sad.  Not surprising, just sad.

I don't know who comes up with these ideas for EA or who does their marketing, but they should be fired.  This Store could have actually been a marketing coup for EA, if they hadn't gotten greedy.  The community HAS been asking for the ability to pick and choose Stuff Pack items, so launching a Store with these items would have said that EA listens to the gaming community.  Leave off Suckurom, don't forcibly install patches - just let people download Sims2Packs.  This would also mean that Mac users could download these items which could mean some serious cash for EA.  Most of the Stuff Packs haven't been released for the Mac yet, and not a day goes by without yet another preteen posting on the Mac boards whining about how Mac users are the whipping boys of the Sims community, Aspyr doesn't love us, etc.

Then release some of those exclusive downloads as free stuff on the Exchange.  'Cause some of the stuff like the male vest outfit and the new Teen Female clothing looks cute.  And if the stuff is borked when you get it in game, it's not such a big deal 'cause it was free anyway.  This would build some good will and customer loyalty, things of which EA is in seriously short supply.  And given that they're going to want us to re-up with the Sims franchise when Sims 3 comes out, they need to start working on coddling their customer base.
