1  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Hire Employees Errors on: 2007 March 24, 02:47:50
First off, I have all expansion packs up to Pets-- only the Bodyshop is patched. I have JM's Director's Cut hacks installed. I also have hacks by TwoJeffs, Monique, and Squinge.

Problem: Everytime my sim tries to hire employees, whether over the phone or computer, I get errors.

I removed all hacks, test played the game and there were no errors when hiring employees. Afterwards, I reinstalled only the Director hacks and the errors returned. I have no clue what could be causing the problem so any help would be appreciated.

Also, about the hiring pool. I now mostly recieve Uni students for possible hires. It was my understanding they couldn't work. In the event this problem is cleared up, is it okay to hire them?

I have a bunch of Gigge clothing for anyone who's interested. If memory serves me correctly, not all of the files were titled Gigge, if true, then I have a bunch of those too. They're all in the same file folder and I more than likely wouldn't have put them they weren't from the site. Just drop me a line.
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ethnic Hair? on: 2006 September 14, 14:21:20
Thanks to everyone who pointed me in the right direction. Now I have a few more options for my black and latino sims.

My only competent nanny has a mohawk. She's messy, nice and outgoing, so she pays some attention to the toddler or child and doesn't just spend all her time scrubbing things and poking people. But yes, really dark skin, red hair and green eyes isn't the most lovely combination on a Sim, and it does seem to be dominant in my neighborhood as well.

Haven't had the nanny with a mohawk (that must be a sight), but dark skin sim with red hair and green eyes, definitely.  I usually insimenate them. Maxis generator sucks.

Does anyone know where I can get some nice ethnic hair for my sims? I've managed to find about two, but everything else on the web is straight hair and curls.

For the record, my finances are fine. I wish I could say the same for my cousin and brother. Believe it or not there are people who do the dumbest things with their money. For instance my cousin managed quite nicely to put together the money to throw herself an $800 party and to buy herself a stereo system that cost over a thousand dollars. But when it came to buying her kids clothes and needed supplies for school, she came begging for a handout. I find sims, particularly wannabe rich fortune sims, have a knack for the same clueless indulgence--- and sometimes I let them go straight into the poorhouse for it.   Grin

I have someone like that at home. Most of the time I call him "my son", but ever so often I call him "the changeling".

Plus, her neighborhood is eye candy.

That they are, indeed. Every once in a while I go to her page just to get very envious about her neighborhoods. Wink

Grin ::dying laughing:: Mom told me my cousin was canned from another job. For now on whenever I see her I'll be calling her " the changeling" in my mind.

I'm going to try the mortgage shrub with the Lawerence family. I've been planning to move them for a while. ::claps:: Will enjoy this new edition to the game.

Don't get me wrong. I don't want all my sims to suffer--- except for a certain select few. Cheesy I just feel that Maxis made everything too simple. Granted, some people like things simple. I have friend who's sims are happy and rich. I find that boring. I like to mix things up for interesting storylines. My neighborhood is divided by class i.e. wealthy, moderately wealthy, upper middleclass, lower middleclass, just above poor, and flatout poor.

Thanks for the references. I'll try the shrubs, but they don't seem harsh enough. I think the sims should feel the burden of an obese mortgage versus their thin paychecks. And as such, they will accumulate debt and more debt. They should want to buy a big screen tv and a car,  but never quite be able to afford them. They should experience what it's like to work from 8 to 4 and still be dead ass broke. Some sims may actually work their way out of debt, while others will wallow in it and die. Not every sim should be destined for platinum old age retirement. Some are just meant to live, work, and die.

At least that's the way I see it.
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Mortgage Hack on: 2006 September 08, 04:13:29
I think the sims buying a home method is stupid. Some sims have insignificant, low paying jobs that wouldn't allow them to own a home outright. But thanks to Maxis' 20k handouts (no pay back required) they can. Then there are sims I have mercilessly worked so they can afford to move from a one room shack to an overpriced two bedroom home. Almost all of their money is spent leaving little to furnish the new place. I know Maxis added the inventory to fix the buy home-no furniture problem; still, it's not satisfactory.

I wish the buy home method was more realistic. I want my sims to pay a down payment on a house and have a mortgage. I want them to have to work for their dream home. Not every sim is meant to be as rich as the Goths; some don't deserve to.

So here's what I was thinking: Let's say that a sim has maybe $10,000 or $15,000 to spare without going broke. In order to buy the home they would have to secure a loan. The loan would be repaid from the sim's paycheck. A fixed payment should be required daily or every couple of days. If the sim fails to pay then no payment/late fees would be added to their debt. If a sim dies, then the sim who inherits the house will be responsible for payments. I also think the fixed payment amount should be determined by the size of the loan.

This is an idea I've been mulling over for a few days now. What do you guys think?
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Keeping employees happy on: 2006 March 14, 04:01:06
For some reason (I know I read this somewhere, but forget where) I was under the impression that certain skills speeded up the process of earning badges. This was unconfirmed, and untested, so I didn't bother to write down the skill/badge relationship. Does anyone know if this is true?

What bugs me is when potential hires with middling skills, but no badges expect outrageous wages based on skills that might help them in a career, but mean nothing to me and my shop. If I want to hire a cashier, why the hell should I care if they have at least 3 skill points in each category and maxed creativity and cooking? Why do they think this entitles them to over 50 Simoleons an hour? A cashier doesn't need to cook, or paint, or play an instrument.  Tongue

The wages are over the top. Sims can go broke trying to pay those salaries. My sim can now afford two employees-- I always hire the cheapest labor and let them work their way up.

As for their moods. I don't really bother to try anymore. Doesn't seem to matter if they get a break or a pay raise. I experimented by giving an employee a regular break, a raise, and even developed a friendly relationship between them and my sim. Didn't help. Their mood dropped down to red by the end of the day. The next day I had the employee work straight through and their mood stayed bright green until closing time. On the other hand, I've had an overpaid employee complain after two hours of work and quit after three days. That same employee quit twice on me. It's like she's programmed to do so.
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Complaining on a date? on: 2006 March 14, 03:42:42
I've had this happen while playing Florence Delarosa. On weekends the shop is closed, but passer-by sims will wander into her yard to complain. I now lock the front gate as well. It's really annoying.

Well I finally forced myself to play Don late last night. Sure enough the big stupid jerk was suffering from food poisoning. I was tempted to let him die, but then I remembered planning to have Nina leave him for another man, taking little Eva with her.  Grin

When Nina had Don's baby in my game, I named her Eva too!  She grew up to be my prettiest sim ever.   Cheesy

I hope my Eva does too. She's my first sim baby so I have soft spot for her in spite of her parents. Grin

i dislike both Daniel and Don. nothing to do wih their morals...i really don't give a toss, but there is just somethng i can't put my finger on. as to making them cheat or not, well we have to encourage them somehow or they'd never do anything except get red aspiration meters
Don i prevent cheating on Brandi, who funnily enough i have had sleep with every male in my hood, breeding many children, and being the fattest sim ever without a change in default skin. she aways has seemed to become trailer trash in my many reincarnaions of the game. Don is therefore has a mostly miserable life

Same here. I just never took to Don, Daniel, or the Caliente sisters. I've managed to build some interesting stories around them, but I still don't like them. Originally, I didn't care for Brandi. She had to be the sloppiest parent around. But once I got Brandi a job, and started forcing her to clean up her act, she improved. Now she and her brood are living with her soon to be hubby, George Taylor. Don on the other hand, no matter how much I tell him to clean he will never do it on his.   Cheesy Daniel is only good for adding to the family funds. Which pretty soon will be Mary-Sue's funds.

To help avoiding Sim eats rotten food, I suggest you add JM "noeatcrapII: Electric boogaloo" hack in.

It can be found here:  http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=1500.0

I have that particular hack. It doesn't do much for slobs like Don. I'm sure if I leave him on free will he'll be back to rummaging the garbage cans and eating flies.  Tongue

don seems to enjoy eating crap off food. unfortunately he ahs never got food poisoning in my game
if he had i would just let him die a noisy and uncomfortable death, i can't stand him

Ha ha!! That's funny! I'm not a big fan of his either -although I dislike Daniel Pleasant even more.

Edit:   I don't have many sims that eat out of the trash so I haven't seen the results of doing this often. Can sims get sick this way?

Daniel or Don... can't decide who I dislike more. Thank goodness for J.M.'s no20khandouts because now I can have Mary-Sue kick his butt out without him taking the lion's share of the money. He doesn't deserve any.
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Totally sick. Has this happened to you? on: 2006 March 11, 04:04:37
I've thought about all of the above. I haven't played Don since August or September of last year. He's definitely not expecting (would kill him dead on the spot if he spawned another seed). If he's poisoned he's out of luck.Wouldn't surprise me if the slob ate bad food-- vaguely recall seeing him at a restaurant while I was playing another sim. If he's allergic one would think the game would have him avoid flowers, but then this is the sims and common sense doesn't exist.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll be forced to play Lothario to find out.

14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Totally sick. Has this happened to you? on: 2006 March 11, 03:35:56
I'm a big lurker on this board, but OFB has forced me out of hiding.

Problem: Don Lothario

Where: Florence Delarosa's flower shop

Every time Don comes to the shop he makes a mad dash for the bathroom and pukes his simulated guts out. The first visit he did it three times in a row. The second, twice and almost a third. Tired of having Florence scrub the toilet, I ask him to leave whenever he pops in ready to hurl.

Has anyone else experienced this? Quite frankly, it's annoying. Angry
