So now we're back to no ceilings?  Roll Eyes

You mean you were expecting a step forward with a sequel? Now, that is just silly.

Speaking of TS3 look what the CC creators made.

[THING pic]

DEAR FUCKING GOD WTF IS THAT THING!

If you look at the image link itself, that is supposed to be a chick. "Lila Loofer." Mind boggling, eh?

I had not looked at the TS3 site in while and checked out some of the screenshots. Unsurprisingly, I am filled with just as much DNW as ever. This picture is really what does it for me:

EAxis are supposed to brandishing their shiny new game that is supposed to be a step up from TS2, but there is nothing in that screenshot that I could not create or do in TS2. While I should hope someone would have me examined for a severe head injury if I began downloading or even attempting to create those fugly clothes, nothing in this screenshot tells me that I am looking at something that is "better" than its predecessor. In fact, if it did not have the TS3 logo branded onto it, it would take me some time to realize that this was something other than TS2. It is the same old garbage encased in a shiny box to be shoved down our throats for an even heftier price tag than TS2. DO NOT WANT!
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 L&P on: 2009 February 12, 07:54:35
My understanding, from what I've read, is that you can go and play other households, but while you are doing so, the family you just left behind will continue with their lives without you.
So if you move CAS intended spouse into a new house and played him for awhile, the heir of your primary house could grow up and get married to someone else, or die, without your direction.

This was my interpretation from all the articles as well. Either way, it is complete FAIL, DNW, etc. Part of the way I challenge myself in the game is to keep all the families straight and make sure that the generational lines do not cross too often. I, however, see no problem in leaving a family alone for months at a time while I create a new "line" to filter into the old ones. The day I got the game in 2004, I made a family with two toddlers and I only recently have got those toddlers out of university and married off to other sims. It takes ages to make the whole generation grow uniformly, but still enhances the fun I get from the game. TS3 just takes all the fun out of maintaining the minor details of every single sim I have...and takes the fun out of playing the game in general.

Sigh. I was already downloading Mosaic betas before these youngins were born -- and I'm only 28.

Darlin', there is no 28. You are 24.

Why are you people so obsessed with grammar anyway?  Is it a technique for killing trolls?

I doubt it is an obsession with grammar. It is simply a matter of being able to communicate properly. If you write coherently, no one will have the need to spork you.

New poll at Snooty Sims is hilarious:

Quote
Do you want the game soon with bugs or later with none?
  • I want it now! I don't care about bugs!
  • A few bugs I can live with so how about March?
  • I'd rather have it much later with no bugs at all

Where's the "it doesn't make a damn bit of difference because it's going to be full of bugs regardless" option?

Quote
1.  I want it now! I don't care about bugs!    389    22%
2.  A few bugs I can live with so how about March?    578    33%
3.  I'd rather have it much later with no bugs at all    789    45%

As least the people are not responding like morons. I am very concerned about the (as of my voting) 389 people who do not care about game bugs and are just itching to spend money on something that does not work. I equate it to all the people who went running out to get Windows Vista. "Ooh! It's new and shiny! Let's run to the nearest store to get Micro$oft's newest monopolistic endeavour."

ETA: I have got lips!  Kiss

Looks like the reviewer isn't familiar with TS2 with EPs.
Quote
one welcome change is the ability to match different hair styles to clothes...
TS2 has had that since Seasons.  It's not new.
That was a big WTF? moment for me while reading the article and I immediately began to question the validity of anything this reviewer has to say about the game.

The more I hear about this sequel, the more it sounds like the game will simply play by itself in front of me, like a movie of sorts. If the sims are doing everything on their own in this "seamless neighborhood," then I see little reason for me to even intervene in their lives. In theory, I could just let them go and they would make friends, get jobs, date, marry, have kids and die all on their own. The only interaction I see necessary would be making sure that their curtains matched the rest of their furniture when I first moved a family in a lot.

I honestly went into the article trying to be positive and thinking, "Perhaps it can't be all bad." but I am just as full of DO NOT WANT as I had been earlier. The game is about to launch in less than month and I still have not seen anything worthwhile. The "new" screenshots are not intriguing, we still know very little about actual gameplay and my hypothesis about the only custom content available being filtered through thesims3store.ea.com has yet to be abated.

Yes, but EAxis loves to claim old shit is new. It's all part of their newspeak. Old is new, bugs are features, stupidity is intelligence, and we have always been at war with Eastasia.
You are wrong, or did you not get that memo; we have already won over Eurasia.
8  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 L&P on: 2008 December 19, 00:04:26
I doubt they'd do a whole tools EP, could definitely see it riding as a feature of some silly expansion full of content you may or may not want though. A tools only EP would involve doling out a ton of core features all at once, after all.

I know I definitely would not put it passed them.

For months now I have been predicting that all tools that will be available to make custom content or even to customize any part of the game will be EAxis "sanctioned" or only available through that detestable Sims Store and, if they are not going to get us through their hording the first available customizing tools, then they will get us through the EPs.

What is to stop them from creating a "Neighborhood Explorer!" EP where people could have simple things like the ability to move lots wherever we choose, or create new lots, or even expand the single neighborhood for as far as a system could handle? They could also include new walls, build mode options, etc. to stuff in this new EP and the only way to get what should have been shipped in the original game is to buy the new EP. I see them trying to nickel and dime everything they can out of this game and the best way to do that is through EPs and SPs.

Also, something to keep in mind is that EAxis is a struggling business like many others in the current economic climate and they are not only trying to bring up today's numbers, but also make sure that their Quarter 4 profits for 2010 and so on will live up to what they forecast. Rather than take time to create something that will be well-tested, generally fun to play and can reach as wide an audience as possible, they renege on what they have already promised (ie: making the game playable for "old, clunker PCs") and ensure that they can drag every last dollar out of the people who are guaranteed to buy their lousy product.

But, if I send all the teen townies to college (and I did) - my hood is empty of teens for good. I can match my teens only in the college. This issue needs an urgent fix.
You can also simply respawn townie teens using boolprop. I do it all the time because I tend to marry off/whore off all my adult townies as soon as I see new ones and, with face replacements, the fugly teens are no longer a threat.
10  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Spore is Review-Bombed, All Thanks to SecuROM on: 2008 September 09, 07:32:05
I was reading through some of those this evening and was actually a little disappointed that very few people actually talked about the game itself. To say that the DRM on the game is an understatement, but I think (and I could be very wrong about this as a laymen in gaming) most people who know enough about the DRM to fully understand its impact, know the ways to A) remove SecuRom from his or her system and B) know how to acquire a crack without it. What would probably make this attack of low reviews have the greatest impact is if the reviewers discussed how "great" the game is, but that people should stay away from it specifically because of the DRM.I also read that the series of negative comments was part of a coalition, of sorts, to have people speak out en masse about DRM, but what is still discouraging is that even with all the negativity, the game is still Number One on Amazon.
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Gameplay: How do YOU keep track of sim lifes? on: 2008 August 26, 17:57:57
MICROSOFT Access?

You must be a masochist.

I am about to start using Access because the Excel file I have is getting too cumbersome and I would like to add thumbnails of my sims eventually. As much as it pains me to say it, OOBase just does not cut it when compared to Access.

I used the neighborhood export tool from SimPe and then added and deleted the tables to suit my needs. I mostly use the file to play matchmaker with my sims and to make sure none of the sims are procreating with their second cousins. Even though the game does not keep track of that, I still find it kind of icky...
12  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Is there anyway to fix this sim? on: 2008 July 30, 15:15:45
While this is almost definitely not the awesome solution, and may be something you've tried, have you tried using Insim's family tree to "make [sim] my child/parent/whatever"? As you're already using it it may be worth a try if you haven't already.

...and if all your fiddling around in SimPE has not already borked all these sims.  You do keep a backup of your 'hoods, do you?  If so, you can reload the backup from before the borkage.

These sims have been borked like this for a while and I figured this was a long shot. I make backups, but only once every few months or right before an EP is released, so I doubt it will help much. I have already tried the family tree from InSim, but my next project will be to have him make another baby and see how it plays out from there. If it is still not fixed, I will see what they make of this problem at at the SimPE forums, too. Thanks!
13  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Is there anyway to fix this sim? on: 2008 July 30, 02:47:50
I think what you mean is that you "moved" the sim from N001 to N005 (not "copied").  If you just copied it, your sim would have remained intact in N001, no worries.

That is just the problem, though. I copied the character file from N001, pasted it into N005 and then tried to run N005. When he did not show in N005's sim bin, I deleted the character file from that folder and, when I ran Pleasantview, found out that sim had problems.  Embarrassed

14  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Is there anyway to fix this sim? on: 2008 July 29, 23:22:54
Okay, here is the problem:

So, I decided to create a story about one of the Pleasantview families and went back into the game to retrieve Pleasantview in its original state. I created a new neighborhood with the original Pleasantview, renamed all the files using the Ant Renamer and Voila! a new Pleasantview. As I played my new Pleasantview, I decided that I wanted to bring a sim from the Pleasantview I was current playing into the new neighborhood. In my own infinite wisdom, I just copied the character file from N001 to the new Pleasantview in N005. Of course, he did not show up in the new neighborhood, so I just deleted him and went about my business. However, when I went back to play him in my "current" neighborhood N001, all of his memories were deleted along with any relationships and family ties.

I tried to go back into SimPe to add the relationships and, through various uses of the InSimenator, he more or less remembers everything as he should, but one problem remains. His family tree does not show his children. He shows them under relationships and all three have the "family" icon on their picture, but the family tree shows only him. When I go into the homes where the children are (he got "around" a bit, so his kids have different mothers), the children show one another as siblings, but they only show their mother.

To explain it a bit better: The problem sim "Trotter Hayle" and the other sim "Lilith Pleasant-Hayle-Price" have two kids, Roland and Drew. Trotter had a child, a boy name Joel, with another woman. When I play the lot with Roland and Drew and click on their family tree, they show their mother, themselves as siblings and also their brother Joel, but they do not show their shared father Trotter. Playing Joel's lot also shows Joel and his mother in the family tree along with Roland and Drew, but still no father.

I tried a method suggested to me on TSR about editing the family ties through SimPe, but when I click on one of his sons (Roland, for example), I get the error shown here: http://www.doriennesmith.com/error1.jpg

I know I am opening myself for rounds of ridicule with names like Trotter Hayle for my sims, but can anyone help me with this?

I have all the EPs, except for BV and have none of the SPs. Here are the contents of the error window that shows in the example, if it is of help to anyone:

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
