A "mutant monster from outer space" is a favorable description of a computer?
To me, that sounds more like some beast bodged together from random mismatched parts that surprises everyone, including the person that built it, by being able to run at all. Much the the "unholy hybrids" of the Sims 2 days when patching, expansions and cracks would lead to people running mismatched executables and data files. They would load up, but then randomly exhibit unpredictable behavior (which the users seemed to invariably try to blame on Pescado).

When I got my current PC it was BSOD right from the start randomly for no reason. It was the preinstalled Norton trial.
Microsoft licensed and gave away everything good Norton ever did with DOS 6.2. Sense then Norton has produced nothing but buggy useless crap. The fact that they stay in business is just a testament to how ill-informed most consumers are.

I wonder if the fugly sims are an attempt to make the hairs look halfway decent.
The implication is clear that the creators of those hair styles think the sims they display them on are beautiful. I think that says all that needs to be said about the matter.

You say you had the base game and Late Night, then added Ambitions. Is this failure a result of installation order? Or did the out-of-order installation result in an EAxian patching failure?

Am I the ONLY one who finds Windows easy to use, intuitive, and reliable; who has never had a major problem with it; and who has almost never wanted to bash his PC to smithereens?
I've had major problems with Windows. I've had my fair share of breakdowns and problems. I've found Windows to be extremely complex, convoluted, and abstruse at times. But, not once have I felt the need to go to an Apple dominated web forum and say, "Can someone please help me figure out how to run your software on my Windows computer."

When you use the most extreme examples of both fandoms I guess it just depends on what you find to be worse; bestiality or pedophilia.
Okay, I don't see a need to debate the relative merits of pedophilia or bestiality. It's like syphilis and smallpox. I have no problem at all with saying I want neither.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: A neighborhood free of ugly NPC?
|

To keep the Pleasantview townies from populating a clean neighborhood, you need to go into your program files and rename N001 to N001_bak. For completely clean Maxis neighborhoods, look in the Peasantry for clean templates. To keep ugly NPCs from generating, go to Mod the Sims and download some face templates you like. These will replace the Maxis faces.
Yes, but this was about TS3, not TS2. Sunset Valley is a prequel to Pleasantview, so the townies are Goths and Crumplebottoms and Bachelors and Calientes etc. I guess at some point the whole town moved.

Yes, because unlike EAxis, who apparently halfassed it, I actually took a stopwatch and timed it to determine the breakpoint at which the speed gain was offset by the warp drive powerup, and experimentally determined that this occurred around the 3 tile mark.
I can't believe you accuse EAxis of half-assedly tuning behaviors in Sims games. You're giving them too much credit.

Or people who think it's funny to stand in a vortex so that passing air pulls their smoke into the aforementioned building, as is the case I so frequently have to encounter. They feel entitled to fuck with other people for no apparent reason. Oh, that one's easy. Just discreetly dump a chamber pot on them. That's one of the problems of this modern age in which so many of us live... not a enough filled chamber pots around when you need them.

The things i miss most are seasons and the hot tubs. I always loved seeing it raining or snowing added some nice realism to the game that was sorely needed. As for the hot tubs they were a great way to socialize. Cram 4 people into one and let them bake for a couple hours.
I agree. Except Seasons killed the hot tubs... or made the hot tubs kill the sims.

Well, I do know that a number of people have been discussing tools. You can see some of the results on Inge's site. And I believe that at least one of the people involved in those discussions is from TSR. But, that hardly makes us all collaborators on a TSR tool. More like one TSR developer might be helping out with some free tools. Or is he trying to pick up enough from what other modders are doing to try and make the TSR tool actually work? Or am I being overly cynical?

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Razor1911 release vs. Reloaded release
|
on: 2009 May 27, 01:19:40
|
I initially had the Reloaded version. I downloaded the Razor version and installed it, upgrading from one version to the other. I tried to apply the patch and it barfed, complaining that my game was the wrong region. Today at work, I thought maybe I had an unholy hybrid situation from the "upgrade" process. So I uninstalled the game and installed a "pure" Razor version. It patched fine. Both version have been stable on my computer.
Some people here seem unfamiliar with torrents. They almost always initially report a very long download time. It's primarily a function of how many peers are available. I find that anything over about a dozen seeders available gives a nice quick download. But it takes my client a little while to recognize them all. Let a torrent download for a half hour or so before you give up on it for taking too long.

Speaking 100% out of my ass, with no real knowledge at all on the subject...
From the sound of the second downloadable neighborhood, they're going to make you download half the game from a website that can only be accessed by registering with the CD key on the back of the highly misleading instruction booklet. So, in theory, you have to buy the game to get all the stuff. (At least in their mind.) Of course, if that's the case, it won't be long before someone figures out how to Arrrr all of the extra content and make it available to the general "we don't want no rootkit" public.

Clown car taxies is nothing. I once had a sim go to an outing in a (CC) Harley with the whole outing stacked on it.
Pics? I've never had it with a motorcycle, but a two seat convertible. driver and passenger get out, then new sim appears in passenger seat and gets out, then another, and another, repeat until the "fun bar" is in the red and everyone storms off complaining about the lousy time. (All of which was spent getting out of the car.)

Naming your kid after brand names and car models is STUPID. Seriously? Mercedes? Lexus? Come ON! At least name them something they can AFFORD!
Lexus, yes. Mercedes, on the other hand, was the name of Karl Benz's daughter. He named the car after her. Mercedes was a girl's name long before it was a car. That's not to say that most people don't think of the car first now.

If I change the title to something else, it will violate my secret agenda of increasing workplace productivity by getting MATY blocked.
However, I will attempt to change the FAQ's title once per month. Here are some future planned titles:

How do desk clerks work? There seems to be one on hotel lots in build mode. Do Sims get memories of meeting them? I figure the one that was there may have been bulldozed under with the lot. I managed to break it pretty fast, so if there was anything left dangling from destroying him, it should have been minimal. But certainly something I don't want to risk another 31,999 instances of.
