You're using the launcher that comes with the game, aren't you?

Me? No. I have the reloaded version and use the .exe from the bin directory.
2  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AwesomeMod Bug Report Thread on: 2015 November 03, 20:13:30
I decided to install the Sims 3 (and Generations and Student Life) again today after quite a while, but for some reason my game won't run when I install AM. Tried both the old and the new way with the framework and everything works fine with or without other mods, until I add AM. Just AM doesn't work either. The game will boot up, then go back to desktop and when I click the (still active) Sims 3 it'll go back to the game loading, music starts playing but after maybe 2 or 3 parts on the progress bar it crashes and I get the vague error that "something is wrong" with the program.

Now, I'm playing on my laptop (Windows 10) and it's not the greatest (bare minimum to play the game), so could it be that using AM is simply too much for it? Or could there be another reason I'm not seeing? I tried saved and newly downloaded versions of AM (and framework etc, although the rest is working just fine), but none work.
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Computer shuts down randomly when playing Sims 3 after installing Patch 1.66 on: 2014 January 29, 19:51:44
I downloaded Speccy to keep an eye on the temperatures inside my computer and noticed my graphics card getting pretty hot, even when I was doing several simple tasks and not even playing the game. However, everything went fine when I played yesterday for a few hours until I went into CAS to create a new fambly; computer shut down when I was working on the second's guy face. I opened up the computer and cleared out dust bunnies/hair, although there wasn't terribly much. The temperature was lower when doing basic stuff earlier today but after an hour or so it had climbed to the previous lowest temperature, yet remained stable. I played the Sims 3 for about an hour to see how it was doing and occasionally switched back to the program (I play full screen) to check the temperatures and they remained stable, until I went into CAS again to recreate the fambly I'd been working on yesterday: when I got to the second guy it went up to 107 degrees, if I recall correctly (a little over a hundred anyway). So, I deleted the second guy and made do with the first one. After that I had other stuff to do and quit, but all in all it seems the problem is the graphics card and cleaning the computer didn't help much. It's strange, because prior to these problems starting I had created two famblies in CAS, both existing of three sims, without any problems.

ETA:
No, I don't use 3booter or the FPS Limiter but I have enabled v-sync for the Sims 3 which is supposed to limit the frame rate.
4  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Computer shuts down randomly when playing Sims 3 after installing Patch 1.66 on: 2014 January 27, 13:52:27
I suspected it was the patch since it occurred after I had installed it and only when playing the game. However, if it's a hardware failure like you're suggesting I'm obviously looking in the wrong direction. Do you have any specific idea of what it could be? I'm not really looking forward to bringing the computer to a computer store to have it dissected without knowing the probable cause and whether they'd actually fix it.

There were no issues at all yesterday when the game was on for a few hours in the afternoon and most of the evening, but today the computer shut down (again without warning) only an hour in and it had been on for maybe 1-1.5 hours prior to starting the game. It's so unpredictable and my knowledge of computer hardware is limited, making it difficult to figure out what's going on.
5  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Computer shuts down randomly when playing Sims 3 after installing Patch 1.66 on: 2014 January 26, 00:43:34
I recently patched the game after getting a warning from AM that it would expire and everything went fine until yesterday. I had been playing for a couple of hours and couldn't recall the last time I'd saved that day, so I told the game to save while I went to make dinner. However, when I got back to my computer a little later it was shut down, with only the screen still on and a sad noise coming from the speakers. I had to flip the computer's switch before I could reboot it and didn't really know what to think since I hadn't seen any warnings or been experiencing computer trouble. I started my game again (it had apparently saved my game before shutting down) and was maybe an hour in when suddenly my screen went black and went into 'power saving mode' because the computer had shut down! Frustrated, I went to do something else and eventually tried again: I could play for a little less than an hour before it shut down again. After that I gave up and went to bed.

Today, I did some googling and tried to alter some options on my NVIDIA card as someone had suggested: I played for almost two hours without any problems until it, again, shut down without any warnings at all. I ran the Dashboard for any conflicting stuff and removed a few decrapified packages that had also been installed as sims3packs but the game shut down again after almost half an hour. I couldn't recall which additional CC I had installed after updating the game because that was last week (I had since installed CCMagic, after playing with only AM, a few skins and some XML tuning) and double-checked all mods were updated, before I tried again. It was less than twenty minutes when I was staring at a black screen again. I removed most of the new CC to no avail. Eventually, I gave in and removed everything but AM and NRaas (the updated ones) but every time it was between 5 and 20 minutes before the computer shut down again - it doesn't seem to matter whether I play the saved game or not, since it also occurred when I booted the game up and went to do something else and came back to find the computer shut down without having chosen a game to play.

I left it for the rest of the day until just now, after which I removed all CC. It took about 3 minutes to load to where to choose the game but it warned me I wasn't using the game disk (AM was gone), so I tried again after but it hadn't even reached the screen where to choose a game when the computer shut down again two minutes in.

So, the only thing I can think of that has changed since the previous times everything went well, is that stupid 1.66 patch. There is nothing wrong with my pc, it's not overheating as far as I'm aware (it also happened when it was barely on for an hour) and there are absolutely no warnings coming from the game, be they sounds or otherwise, nor special events in the game itself when it happens. It seems to be completely random!

To make a very long story short: my computer shuts down randomly when playing the Sims 3 and I was wondering if anyone here knows how to prevent this, other than maybe a clean install (and perhaps not patching to 1.66). I don't have any stuff packs, just Generations, Island Paradise, Pets, Seasons, Showtime and University Life and it's patched up to 1.66 (I only saw today that 1.67 is out but I'm not very confident in EA's updates at the moment) - CC seems to make no difference at all.
6  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Install 1.3 update or not? on: 2009 July 28, 22:45:08
So, in fact, does it compatible with the actuel version of awesome ? thanck you for answering

Considering Pescado asked wheter or not there was a patch and the "AWESOMEMOD! SHINY! WIP - Download & Announcements" doesn't say it's compatible, I'd say no.
7  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 July 18, 19:23:06
Yeah, I got that. I *could* live without the Mendelian genetics, as long as the hair dye could be less carcinogenic. There's no logic in hair dye which affects the gametes... you dye your hair for a change or because you don't like the colour or whatever, not so that your spawn will get those genes  Undecided
8  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 July 18, 16:09:42
I started playing with the PedoBait and all, but is it normal for Grandpa Pedo to get arrested when he flirts with TeenGirl PedoBait who lives with him (as a roomie) in his own house? I tried three times (without saving, so it was his first 12) and the cops showed up everytime. However, a neighbor who dropped by was allowed to flirt with TeenGirl PedoBait in their (Grandpa Pedo and TeenGirl PedoBait) house and even woohoo and eventually knocking her up. After Grandpa Pedo got back from jail, he could flirt with Cleaning Maid (another roomie; female 12) after she flirted with him. And he even got her pregnant and later on woohoo'd with TeenGirl PedoBait without the cops showing. I tried several other sims but in their own homes the cops never came... only that time with Grandpa Pedo.

Oh, and did Awesomemod change the way the sim hairdye affects the gametes? I haven't tried dyeing anyones hair yet, because I don't want to lose the "form of genetics" we DO have. If not, is there any way it COULD be changed?
9  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Important notice from the GRAMMAR POLICE. Plz read. This means you. on: 2009 June 09, 15:40:08
Yes, and also, if we can manage to be coherent in a language that is not our first, those who grow up with it should be able to as well. Argh.

Agreed, it sometimes makes it hard to actually understand what a person is saying when they write it incorrect giving it a totally different definition.

Quote
Ah fuck up and die!

LMFAO! I just knew someone would fail to sense my sarcasm, yet I'm amazed by it all the same. I thought it was pretty obvious.

Obvious and painfull, yes.

'Lol...' seriously, that's all I have to say to both your replies. You are so closed-minded you can't see the grey (I assume you're a Brit?) in between. Well, I tried to put another point across but you're not having any of it, so I suppose it's just another shame. Oh gosh, I used wiggles to emphasize my name, that MUST mean I'm a pleb. And my attitude? It's a good one to have, I'm proud of it, I know I'm a fair person. Don't worry though, you can have your little obsession back, I can see you're never going to open your eyes. It would just be nice if you were nicer to people, even when you want to get a grammar point across.

I assume you're doing it on purpose now? At least someone is proud...

It's not as simple as that because they came back at me telling me i meant things that i had never written. Twisting ways i had worded things. Like some of the examples i brought up. The words i use are the words i mean, if i don't say things like 'i think you should all change for me' then thats what i meant to not put. But i've had people coming back to me with 'oh so you want us to change for you' type thing. Near the beginning i said how a spelling mistake is so bad, and i got things back saying that you basically have no intelligence if you don't capitalize something etc. So from asking an innocent enough question, people make it personal by stating what a person is if they don't spell the way THEY want. Then telling me how i don't get the way it works here even though more than once i had stated i understood. So if i took care to make it clear i understood, yet still got people repeating themselves that i didn't, just who has made the mistake there. Not me! Bottom line on the subject of this thread though, is that this site would still be good and non-n00bish even if people forgot the odd apostrophe or capital. The odd grammar drop isn't the same as people coming on going 'yo peepz, sims 3 iz da bomb (or not as the case may be) ^.^ w00t'. And it seems to be that people don't want THAT type on here?

I guess they just didn't teach you comprehensive reading when you were in school?  Shocked

And it's just a hopeless cause... I'm not going to correct all the errors, because it's time consuming. You just like being recalcitrant?
It's just that in this day its natural to not worry too much about grammar on the net. And we're not even talking about jumbled up words here, they're on about things like not capitalising an 'I'. While some people may be anal about spelling, this type of mishap won't in any way affect a post.

Actually, when (native) people start to spell things/use grammar incorrectly, it makes it harder for a foreigner to comprehend what it's saying since there really is a difference between (e.g.) "your" and "you're".

Thats just the way i type. I don't use silly n00b speak, or 'pmsl' everywhere, but yeah, i do cut corners with capital I's. And it's not riddled with errors. And 'in your opinion is annoying', yes. I also love the way you use 'we' to refer to yourselves. It's like your a cult or something. You seem to forget you don't own the site, even if you feel you are some type of minion. Pescado hasn't once really said anything himself about how to behave with grammar, this thread wasn't even created by him! I said i understood, now you are telling me AGAIN that i don't and telling me the reason why you think it. I'm careful that i type things to an 'alright' standard, but i know i just won't be able to keep to making sure every tiny thing is done 'the proper' way. And it has nothing to so with doing it 'intentionally'. It's my habit, but it gets me by. If the guy in charge asks me to try harder than perhaps it's more worth thinking about.

I'm not trying to 'win' anything. Was just having a conversation

Apparently, it's very hard for you to type correct. Hint: typ your posts (interlarded with ignorance) in word before posting, and don't forget to adjust "i" with "I" in autocorrect. Yes, it is that simple Cheesy

Oh crap, and now she got canned. That's what I get for almost always reading the entire thread...

It's sad, really.  I noticed that my son's teachers don't bother to correct his spelling or grammar on most of his assignments because it's "the substance that matters" to them.  Apparently, AOLspeak is changing the way papers are graded.  Why in the hell has it become commonplace?

This probably also has something to do with overly PC public school teachers nowadays that are afraid to correct kids, fearing the wrath of child-centered parents.

Actually it probably has more to do with the fact that your kid's classes probably have 38+ students in each class. When you teach at least 200 students a day you cannot correct everything on each assignment. Next year in our district the classes are going up to 42. We save that kind of grading for the big important writing assignments and give everything else a few "pity points" for effort.

I don't see the problem? In both primary and high school most of my classes consisted of 30-40 students and they always corrected everything.

Since you asked so nicely... I am not a teacher. I know teachers, live with teachers, and I volunteer with teachers. The reason I have not been fired, is simply because they are grateful to have a little help, despite the fact that there is too much work for me to finish. My job includes grading mountains of papers for very overworked teachers. I see what they are up against with the enormous class sizes my teachers are saddled with now.  By the way a teacher's job description does not include any specific way they must grade papers. Their job is to teach, and most of them do the best they can with what they have.  In our current economic situation, teachers are not even allowed to make photo copies anymore (in my district) much less given any other type of supplies. Everything comes out of their pocket. They receive very little respect, no understanding, and far too much abuse. What I have seen has caused me to change my career choices completely, because there is no way I want to mess with any of that. The last thing I want is to spend all day trying to teach today's horrible children, just to have them mock you, destroy your materials, and then have their equally nasty parents come and scream at you for their own failures.

Why am I bitching? I wasn't bitching before, but now I am! The reason I replied is because I felt your comment showed the typical amount of ignorance of what it actually means to try to do this job, and I'm confident that I am right. I'd like to see what you look like after just one year of trying to keep 200 teenagers alive, much less teach them something that they don't want to learn.

If you're not a teacher, WTH are you doing grading papers? And by teaching I think they actually mean teaching correct *language*, so correcting grammar and/or spelling on papers is - IMO - teaching.

Oh, yay. Edited those extraneous quotes out correctly. Small things.

Now, I've had my MATY account dumped at least twice that I can recall. Why? I am not one of the Awesome people around here. I can see the site in full from guest view so virtually never log in. Why? Because, to reiterate, I am not one of the Awesome people around here. I come, I use search, I rarely attempt to post because I know I am not one of the Awesome people.

When I do post I exercise caution in what I say and how I say it. Why? It's MATY. For the same reason I warn people I meet in the Sims community to try all available remedies for their Sims ailment before coming here. And to humbly list said attempts before asking for help. Imbeciles are the favorite chum for the denizens whom lurk within MATY.

I skipped over the majority of the posts -for which I will stand still and take my lumps. I was not going to post, however seeing, well, what I would call verbal diarrhea if said to me in person, in your post I changed my mind.

Last time I checked part of teaching was checking to make sure your students are learning. That is done with homework and tests. Which, must be graded to ascertain if a student is learning. Therefore, grading papers is a part of their job. Whether stated in small words for individuals of dubious intelligence such as yourself or as an implied responsibility of their position.

If teachers in your district are not allowed to make copies take it up with the PTA, school board, superintendent, etc. It has no bearing on the discussion at hand.

Teachers in this day and age (in the USA) receive very little respect, no understanding, and far too much abuse because society and the government permit it/refuse to support them. Again, this has no bearing on the discussion at hand.

Further, today's children are 'horrible' because their parents are to self-absorbed and incompetent to raise a child. Society makes excuses for those children, e.g. they come from underprivileged homes, etc. And finally because people like you wash their hands of them. It's so much easier than tackling a problem that you haven't created but could remedy.

You think teachers get the short end of the stick, try being a school bus driver for three years for everything from elementary kids from the local ghetto to spoiled high school brats. Try working in a teacher's assistant capacity in the most underprivileged elementary school in the city. Finally, try doing behavioral management with a therapy firm for an entire year with elementary students born premature, treated like animals, and sexually abused to high school kids who's only goal in life is to join a gang and die in a drive by.

Nobody goes into any of those for kudos, pats on the back, or warm fuzzies. After doing the required time as a student teacher any individual going into the field who doesn't grasp the thankless nature of the position is blind, ignorant, stupid, what have you. And they get what they deserve.

I personally go back every year to drive a bus because if, after all the abuse and nonsense, I've reached one child, gotten one child to think, made a difference, an impact then I have succeeded. And that's ALL the thanks I need, my warm fuzzies, etc.

Oh, and for the record -you can't teach anyone who doesn't want to learn. What you can do is try to motivate them to want to learn through various means. Somehow, I do not think you would be good at that, given the attitude you've displayed. And I am thankful you are not a teacher. Children need a firm hand. Limits and rules. They also need hope -something you are sadly lacking.

Now, as for egregious spelling and grammatical errors. I will run this through Word, it will tell me it has everything fixed, and I'll believe it because I don't see them. But you don't hear me whining about it. I attempt to remedy the problem. Have I failed, will I fail? Yes, and most likely. But I bloody well tried and here at MATY effort is noted and appreciated. Not whining, bitching, and making pathetic excuses.

Look again.

A hack that hides the plumbbob. I know you can use a cheat (plumbbobToggle off), but it's annoying to typ it in everytime and it doesn't work in the startup cheat Angry

That was what I meant with the radio-thingy Embarrassed
So yes, I already tried that Huh
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims won't slap dance... on: 2008 June 12, 20:05:24
I'm having the same problem! I tried everything I could think of! Huh
Checked all the mods, nothing, tried lowering fun with boolprop (read that on an EA-site) and (surprise!) it didn't work. I could lower the fun and start dancing, and all of a sudden the fun jumped 'up' and I can't even lower it anymore! Also tried the radio-thingy, didn't work either...
Some help, anyone?
Oh, btw, the tai-chi is still working (unfortunatly) and downloaded the novacationaction mod for that, but even before that the stupid dance didn't work Shocked

Aah, okay... thank you Cheesy

EDIT:

Is it allright if I translate and simplify (with pictures Wink) this tutorial in Dutch and post it with a link to this page and give you guys credit?
14  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Converting Pre-BV Accessories to fit in new BV Accessory Section on: 2008 April 28, 14:24:13
No, I haven't, but the todd was already wearing one (the invisible/meshless one Embarrassed) and I still couldn't click on the jewelry-thingy using the mirror->change appearence...
15  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Converting Pre-BV Accessories to fit in new BV Accessory Section on: 2008 April 27, 19:04:13
Okay, thank you.
It seems like it worked, my first succes while working with SimPe! Grin I think I forgot to put the meshes in the folder, because I only had blank ears/necks. But now that I know it works, I'm gonna convert my dozens of jewelry! Oh, and is there a way of enabling the jewelry for tods while using the mirror? In CAS I put a(n invisible, because I forgot the mesh Embarrassed) pacifier on the todds, but when I wanted to check if the accessories would show using the mirror, the jewelry-thingy wasn't enabled for the toddler. That means I can only put pacifiers on the toddlers I make in CAS and not on the already 'living' todds, when I would buy new jewelry. Or is there a way (anyone knows of) to enable it after all? Wink
16  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Converting Pre-BV Accessories to fit in new BV Accessory Section on: 2008 April 26, 12:38:44
Thank you both for the reply, I will try it out!

EDIT:
This is probably considered a stupid question, but I'm still gonna ask: I have a few EarNeckset, which include earrings and a necklace. I want to bin them correctly; the earrings in the earringsection and the necklace in the necklacesection, but how do I know which is which? Yes, I am blond and have never worked with SimPe before, because I always have trouble finding good tuts (unlike this one Grin)
17  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Converting Pre-BV Accessories to fit in new BV Accessory Section on: 2008 April 25, 13:16:38
I really like this tutorial, I hardly ever work with SimPe, but even I understand it! I do have a question though, is it possible to enable miscellaneous (for example) for toddlers so that you can decide when they have to wear a pacifier/soother/binkie?
