Oh well, I guess it was a nice try. Thanks everyone for your help.

Yeah but can I get away with playing with the old card and updating this new ForceWare driver, given that the Minimum System Requirements listed on TS2.com covers the MX 440 already, and it played well in the past? Buying new stuff obviously costs money & I am unwilling to shell out hard-earned bucks for a game I'd only play once a week at best.

Hello everyone,

I have been playing Sims 2 on my craptop for about a year and a half, and I'm sick of crap graphics due to an on-board card, so I am looking to reinstall it on the family PC, which handled it pretty well when I first got the game. These are my specs:

AMD Sempron Processor 3300+
2 GHz
512 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440
20+ GB free space

After reading some threads in many places I figured that I should probably update the video card or something, so that it plays much better. I went to the NVIDIA website and did a search for new drivers, and it's led me to some page about a ForceWare Release 90 thing. Does anyone know much about this driver? Would it be a good idea for me to install this? It doesn't say anything about ForceWare stuff on this page either, which rouses my suspicions.

I am a very stupid person when it comes to computers (I can barely burn a CD, let alone update important components), and I am not looking to blow my PC up, so any help is greatly appreciated. I had a read of a few threads here about drivers and such but it's all in technobabble and I don't understand it.

No worries, thanks for the help. Just to double check, too: the "Display adapter" is the graphics card? It says NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 400, I don't know what that means. I should be able to find all the info I need from here, right?

I find it alot easier to find all your pc info via your control panel.

To find it go to:
"my computer", find "control panel", and then find "system".

You'll find everything there.  Smiley

Bumping the thread b/c I have an admittedly dumb question:

I vaguely remember there's a way to get all my computer specs listed like how Mooingloudly has it in their post, via some kind of run command trickery, but I can't remember exactly how to do it. I know how to find out what kind of computer it is (because it is crap), but I don't know how to find out what graphics and sound cards I have, whether I have directX, whether it's nuclear powered, etc., basically all the important stuff.

Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem, but it only happens when he wears formalwear and not when he just looks like a robut. I never used to have this issue until I installed EPs since OFB, is there something in that?

Thanks forever for these! I didn't know these items even existed, bonus.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I had the impression there was a hack here that disabled career outfits for everyday wear. Do you have the DC? I haven't got my folder on this computer so I can't check myself.

Off-topic question -- is there a non-cheat trick to get a higher probability of alien abduction? I saw that some houses in Strangetown have 5 level towers to put their telescopes on which makes me wonder if that's the way to get the aliens.

Not that I'm aware of. If you have FreeTime there's a lifetime aspiration bonus thing that makes alien abductions more likely, but other than that non-cheat abductions are rare. I think it's like a 5% or 2% chance, but don't quote me. I just had one not long ago after months of gameplay. There's no special way to get them, they just happen.

Is it going to frustrate you to no end if I ask what a string entry is?

Messers Awesome, the horrific spelling & grammatical errors unleashed upon me and other FreeTime victims is driving me nuts. Is there any way to retype the in-game chance cards/pop-ups/whatever? I thought I could live through the "Hey David, how's it going I haven't seen you much lately" peeve, but I don't know if I can go on for much longer with the Babelfish-esque run-ons we've been subjected to in this installment.

I am dangerously unawesome - no brains for computational logic or arithmetic, and while I do own SimPE, I really only look at it. Is it possible in SimPE/at all? Would it be relatively easy if so?

Seriously though, I thought game publishers had armies of beta testers to catch this rubbish.
