1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Web Hosting Services? on: 2006 September 23, 22:36:40
WARNING:I've never actually tried these services, so they could be terrible.
There's NearlyFreeSpeech.net which where you supposedly only pay for the bandwidth your site uses instead of a flat rate per month, according to them 74% of the people that use their service pay less than $1.00 a month.  BugMeNot is hosted by these guys.  You'd probably still have to register a domain name at GoDaddy or something if you use this service.

I use NearlyFreeSpeech. My website is pretty small and costs me something on the order of a penny every couple of days. You can register a domain name through NFS. After you open an account, you put money in it, and they take money from it a penny at a time according to your usage ($1/GB of traffic and $0.01/MB/month for storage). If your account runs dry, your site is deactivated and you have a month to put more money in. There are no overage charges. I'd recommend them to anyone.
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Disease Contagious? + Angry Employees on: 2006 May 02, 15:01:49
2.  3 sims are sick in the house.  Take the usual action and two get better quickly.  The other one doesn't. The first two catch it again and get sick.  Lie them all on the bed, first two are cured, the other one is still sick.  I know how to cure them, it just doesn't stick!
Probably a cwykes problem as Pescado has said about other things!

I had a house with a gay couple and 5 kids (3 adopted, 2 from alien abduction) and one day one of them caught something and spread it to everyone else. Every time I got one of them better, the others would just reinfect them. I had to get Shaklin's medicine cabinet to get them all cured at the same time.

I think somebody needs to find a way to make sims immune to diseases they've already had.
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Dude, I just saw the freakiest thing... on: 2006 April 15, 00:34:31
I don't have the OFB patch and I don't have nodormieprotect. Mac and Cheese Girl was the first ghost dormie I've ever seen - and there was another one a little later on, too. I thought it might just have been because this sim I was playing was actually playing through college in a dorm rather than being rampaged through in a private house... but I've played sims through college before and there were never any ghosts.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Dude, I just saw the freakiest thing... on: 2006 April 13, 22:15:34

This is a brand new neighborhood, brand new college, and the girl eating the mac and cheese is a dormie. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??

At least it's giving the other two kids something to talk about. :p
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Who's got some good names for Servos? on: 2006 March 26, 20:33:42
My two Servos are named Jeeves and Dorcas (that's Chester Gieke's robot wife. I saw "Dorcas" on a list of baby names when I was looking for names for a set of twins and decided it would be cruel and unusual punishment to inflict it on a human being... but I had no problem inflicting it on a robot. Cheesy).
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB Patch Link on: 2006 March 22, 04:47:45
When they say "have your game CDs ready" for the install, do they mean ALL the CDs, or just the OFB CD, or just the original game CDs, or what? (never installed a Maxis patch before)

And why Servo eats even though he has no stomach.

AVG and ZoneAlarm treat me right.
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: And the purpose of the cleanbot is??? on: 2006 March 17, 15:55:26
Cleanbot can only pick up things, if they are deposited on the floor. Empty plates on the dinner table, or on the counters are out of reach for the bot. Which is why its only good for two things, cleaning up yesterdays newspaper, and empty milkbottles, and I am not even sure it can handle the latter.

I was hoping cleanbot would get bottles, so I put one in the kitchen of one of my houses with a new baby, and... nope, the bottle's still sitting there and cleanbot's ignoring it.

Which makes cleanbot good for exactly two things: picking up yesterday's paper (and only if your house isn't on a foundation, because he can't go down/up stairs) and cleaning up a puddle in the bathroom and going berserk, dumping piles of garbage everywhere (where are they coming from?? he doesn't clean up anything!)
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis does it again! on: 2006 March 13, 15:18:34
Another small gripe, it's not properly binned, but that was just a couple of minutes of work to correct, and almost ALL hair meshers don't give a fly's droppings about proper binning. "It's custom. Deal with it!" seems to be their attitude (and I bet most of them don't even know how to properly bin!).

Some of them seem to think that it's wrong to put custom hair in the right bins because "OMG how will tehy no its custum hare!!1!oneone"
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I found a way to connect the three neighborhoods together. (Serious Thread) on: 2006 March 13, 03:26:06
Special note about the pictures. I dunno why some of the pics shrunk when I uploaded them on photobucket. But I have a bigger 640x480 pics that you can clearly see things. If you want to see them PM me so I can email them or something. Or contact me at wyrmking@aol.com.

The pictures shrunk because they were too big. Photobucket automatically resizes pictures that are bigger than 512KB.
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis does it again! on: 2006 March 09, 04:18:20
The hairstyle looks good in photos, but it almost fails my "twirl" test.  When you rotate the sim, it sort of bulges out in the middle, but not at the point where the mesh hits the shoulders.  Very strange.

The same thing happened to me. It totally failed my "twirl" test. It just looked way too unnatural.
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: simdad won't go to work on: 2006 March 04, 19:51:44
I bought him a car (it was about time for them to get one anyway) and he was more than happy to drive himself to work.

You guys are significantly more awesome than me  Cheesy
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: simdad won't go to work on: 2006 March 04, 01:11:22
Do you have Inteen or Open for Business installed and the clothingtool hack installed?

No, no, and no.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / simdad won't go to work on: 2006 March 03, 20:58:47
so, my simself and her simhusband have a set of twin toddlers and simme is using her vacation days to stay home and take care of them -- but simhubby refuses to go to work, saying that he can't "leave the little ones home alone", even though their mom is home with them! Anyone know what's going on here?
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: College student's grade meter is stuck? on: 2006 February 18, 22:23:14
Deleting with moveobjects on won't delete your sim forever - you do have to save and exit to the neighborhood for it to work, but when you come back they will be standing by the mailbox with motives full. It can fix a number of problems.  However, since moving back in to the old house didn't work but moving to a brand new one did, I would suspect that it was the house that was the problem. Was it, by any chance, one that came with the University?

Yes, it was the really expensive one ($7000 or something) in Sim State U.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: College student's grade meter is stuck? on: 2006 February 18, 21:34:05
I tried moving her into a dorm and her grade meter was fixed, but then when I moved her back in with her sister, it went back to the way it was. I deleted her and went to the neighborhood without saving (was I supposed to save? I don't want to delete her forever) and when I came back her grades were still stuck. Sad

I think I'm going to move them into a different house - they can't really afford the one they're in right now anyway.

ETA: alright, they both have functioning grade meters now. Phew.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / College student's grade meter is stuck? on: 2006 February 18, 20:51:29
Jeez, when it rains, it, uh, rains slightly harder.

Okay, so in my custom neighborhood I've got alien twins and I sent them to college. One of the girls' grade meters is stuck on the lowest level despite her having all the necessary skill points. Her sister's grade meter is normal. I've tried having her change her major and change it back, I tried using the college adjuster to add a point to each of the required skills (thinking maybe the game wasn't recognizing that she had the points or something), and she's been to class and back. What gives?

19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lot problem: Terrain... miscolored? missing? only in neighborhood view on: 2006 February 14, 04:32:22
I have a similar effect in some of my lots.  It happens in two instances - the lot has a basement that extends to the walls of the house or the lot was moved from/to land that slopes.  Since I have a lousy video card, the neighbourhood screen gives me that weird effect.

I think that must be what happened in my case too - the Pleasantview house is built on a hill, and the whole custom neighborhood that the other house is in is very hilly - I had to flatten much of the lot to build on it. And I don't even have a lousy video card, I just have lousy integrated video. :p

It doesn't affect gameplay in anyway, it's just a graphical glitch on the neighbourhood screen.  I wouldn't worry about it.

20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lot problem: Terrain... miscolored? missing? only in neighborhood view on: 2006 February 14, 02:25:07
It appears to be mostly cosmetic, although your entire neighborhood looks a little more colorful and...grungy, than mine does. Try randomly moving the lots around the neighborhood (NOT THE LOT BIN) and then putting it back and see if that helps.

Okay, I just tried it. When I pick up the lot, the "weirdness" (don't know what else to call it) appears to stay where the lot was, but then when I put the lot down, the weirdness moves to the lot's new location. I'd really hate to bulldoze that Pleasantview house, since it was not built by me and therefore doesn't suck :p The house in the custom neighborhood, though, probably will have a date with a bulldozer sometime in the future because it was built by me and is therefore sucktacular. :p
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Lot problem: Terrain... miscolored? missing? only in neighborhood view on: 2006 February 13, 06:59:17
Hi, I'm new here, please don't hurt me

I've got a problem that has shown up twice, in two different neighborhoods. I tried searching the forum, but actually I'm not sure what keywords I need to be searching for.

Instance 1: Pleasantview
Screenshot

I had Lilith Pleasant and Dirk Dreamer living in this house, but after the first time I played it it started looking like this. While I'm actually on the lot, everything looks and acts normal. I've since moved Lilith and Dirk to another lot, which isn't having this problem.

Instance 2: Custom neighborhood
Screenshot

I'm doing a challenge on this lot, and after the first time I played it, it started looking like this. While I'm actually on the lot, it looks and acts normal.

I have.... holy crap, 43 hacks??! Of which the only ones that didn't come from this site are Shaklin's medicine cabinet, no gnome theft, and homework sometimes, and some custom hairs and clothes. I have Uni, Nightlife, and the holiday pack, and I don't have the new NL patch yet.

My most pressing concern right now is whether this is just a cosmetic problem or if it will actually affect my game. Will it? And/or how can I fix it?
