TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apocalypse! How many are left?

I play both. Big difference is that I can play TS2 for hours at a time. I get bored after only 30 minutes of TS3.
For me, it has nothing to do with lack of expansion packs or objects. I simply can't stand how the Sims look. I actually have an interest in my TS2 Sims.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: How can we de-lard fat townies?
|

Unfortunately, I'm having the opposite problem. I made one of my Legacy sims marry Cycl0n3 Sword, making him a permanent part of the always-active family. I knew he was thin, but upon closer inspection, I was horrified by his anorexic physique. I'd read a passing comment around here somewhere around how someone's sim was "getting fat", so I put two and two together and started feeding him five or six ice creams after his dinner. It beefed up his chicken legs to normal size, and I thought all was well. By the next sim day, he was back to staggering around on toothpicks, though he'd never exercised in any form or had his Hunger bar drop below half at any point. I tried twice more, feeding him tons of food to fatten him up to an average size, but he'd just keep going back.
Have you tried having him do strength workouts on the weight machine? The cardio workouts like jogging will cause a loss of fat, but the weight machine will cause a muscle gain which should help with the anorexic look. Not sure how well the muscle sticks - most of my Sims work out on a regular basis; so, they have not lost any muscle over time.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: How to Torture Sims

Just tried drowning myself again it does indeed work but as i thought they still try to escape. To keep them in the pool long enough to drown you need to box it in to prevent escape.
My Sim was fatigued from working out. I had him hop into the pool to go swimming. He died fairly quickly with all his motives in green. A moodlet popped up about not being able to breath under water and needing air, but he happily just kept swimming. He never attempted to leave the pool and seemed quite content to swim around. When the timer on the moodlet reached zero he drowned.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What, in Heaven's name, is up with traits?! Scary Pic included
|

I understand that in real life, certain traits don't translate well between sexes but, something just seems so off. Look at the jaw and tiny nose on the woman. It's just wrong. Everything just looks wrong. The fellow has a very normal jaw, even a little wider on the scale and yet, she shows up like this. Is there something wrong in the transition, bug-wise?
I agree that the jaw did not translate well to the female clone. It should have been more square. I also don't know where she got that brow. He does not appear to have that huge, silly clown-like arch in the eyebrow. On the other hand, I think that the nose translated very well to the female version. The male's nose is a bit high on the face which actually suits him well. However, with the female shrunken nose, the distance is too enlarged and the nose appears way too high. It almost appears as if she smells some foul odor. Your tweaked female looks much more like the sister of the male Sim than the clone to me. I don't think beauty has anything to do with it - the clone simply appears to have an odd combination of features not are necessarily ugly, but they are odd. The features for the tweaked female simply are more in tune with one another and she looks much more like a sibling to the male. It's probably not a bug. Just stupid EA. I think TS2 did a very similar thing to the female/male version of the faces. It has never made a whole lot of sense to me.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Poor Body Textures Outside of CAS
|
on: 2009 June 10, 18:20:28

Do you all have the sim detail on very high? On high makeup smudges and pixelates. On very high I've noticed no issues outside of CAS, except when outside. Then I just get splotches again.
I have everything on high. The scenery is stunning, the Sims are blah. They simply don't look as good as they do in CAS. As mentioned by zolabee the blush looks like bruising and the skin is splotchy when up close. I don't think that I've noticed smeared makeup at all. Also, like GnatGoSplat mentioned, the pie menu picture always looks much better than the Sim. I have 4 GB 800Mhz RAM using XP & dual 8800 GT 512MB video cards. I've run the game in SLI mode and in single GPU mode and it does not seem to make a difference at all in the gameplay or the graphics. My gameplay is very smooth. No noticeable lag at all.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds

I'm thinking maybe it's because she didn't know the neighbors well enough? I mean, I wasn't trying to have her eat out of their fridge, she just had to pee.
If you want to believe the Prima Guide, yes, you are correct. According to the guide, you have to build up the relationship in order to use the bathroom at another Sim's home. I have not tested this myself.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Razor1911 release vs. Reloaded release

I understand. I really want to compare those who bought the game early if EA shows the "non-final, unauthorized" message because they installed the game before the release date. I also want to see if someone with pirated 1.0.631 has that same message if anyone wants to take the risk.
People who actually purchased the game and received it early have already signed up on TS3 and can post in the forums without any issues. You simply have to have a valid serial. Apparently, you cannot download from the exchange including Riverview until Tuesday. So, there is no "unauthorized" message from a purchased game.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Store & Exchange Open for viewing

The Store is how I expected it to be: overpriced and filled with craptastic items that will most likely need to be tweeked and fixed by modders.
On another note, it looks like they have really made the story making process easier. It appears as if you upload images and then arrange the story online. I am cringing at the fact that audio is now included - something about BBS stories and audio just doesn't settle well with me.

I think it's really dumb they have to go steady first. No one above teens should have that option. But oh well, now I know.
Sounds like EA's attempt to indicate that a couple is in a committed relationship although not engaged. I actually really wanted that option in TS2. On the other hand, "going steady" sounds a bit childish.

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Former apartment inhabitants WILL NOT LEAVE.
|

I actually have the same issue. Deleting the offenders with "moveobjects on" worked for that play session; however, they returned during a later session (after exiting the game entirely and re-entering the apartment lot).
I continue to delete the offenders each time I play the apartment complex. All of Sims show back up at the apartment complex and won't leave. They lived in different apartments and have since married, moved into a single family home and have children. One of the apartments is still occupied by another playable and the other apartment complex is now occupied by a townie.
I just assumed that the apartment building was borked. It was one of the buildings that shipped with the game.
I haven't noticed this on my other apartment lots. On the other hand, I don't play apartment lots often; so, it could simply be that I didn't notice it on the other lots.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I cannot get the game to run above a 800x600 resolution.
|
on: 2008 November 13, 16:49:32

Not sure that your system can handle it, but that's already been mentioned. You'll need to alter the Graphics Rule file. As posted by Jordi: Ohm that's easy. Find your native resolution (1680 x 1050 for a 20" 16:10 monitor, 1920 x 1080 for a larger 16:9 monitor, or whatever).
Go to the last XP you have (Celebrations trumps Seasons). Open \TSData\Res\Config\Graphics Rules.sgr in a text editor
Look for the string "option ScreenModeResolution" and change the Setting $High as follows: setting $High uintProp maxResWidth 1680 uintProp maxResHeight 1050 uintProp defaultResWidth 1680 uintProp defaultResHeight 1050
Use your native monitor values of course.
Next time you load the game the resolution is available.
Make sure you either have the original CD, or a backup of the file, should EAMaxis come out with a patch.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Analysis of 'Apartment Life' spells and Latin.
|
on: 2008 October 08, 18:29:14

Very interesting.
I, too, am no expert. I took 1 semester of Latin a long, long time ago. I believe that "bene" is a latin prefix meaning "well" or "favorable". So, Benemoodus is only partially made up.
Edit to add from dictionary definitions: "delet-" is Latin - past participle of delere "blot out, efface" "Remedium" is Latin for medicine which is close to the "Remedis" "Corruptus" is Latin - past participle of corrumpere "break completely" & rumpere "to break" "Interrupt" is Latin - past participle of interrumpere "break apart" & rumpere "to break" "Ex" is a Latin prefix meaning "out"

Can't say much about a good reputation yet, but I have one Sim who has a bad rep. When she meets a Sim, her relationship both lifetime and daily are immediately negative. Also, while not directly interacting, other Sims make a goofy noise and walk away from her like they are scared of her.

One thing mitchellcjs said sticks in my mind though, not to play he pre-made Pets EP families- Since I got eveything all at once, I'm not sure which familiies came with what EP, but I'm assuming Cyd Roseland and Tara Kat did (cuz duh), but are there any others? Thanks again.
The Kim Family and the Kat Family are in occupied lots in the bin. Cyd is with his dog in the bin, but not in a house. There is also the Crittur family which is simply two dogs - they are not in a house either. (Edited to add Crittur family)
