Your awesomeness precedes you, Mr Pescado.
Apparently, your poolhack and crammyboy's nudist hack also conflict. I take it is because both feature the option to frolick around naked; in the pool, and everywhere else, respectively. I haven' t played with pools in ages, so I don't know if anything funky might happen.

I cannot really help you in any way, but I just wanted to mention that your English is very good. Your post was very comprehensible and nicely laid out. I'm a second-language English speaker myself, and I always appreciate adherence to linguistic rules, and people with a flair for the written word.

Haha @ Pescado. Not an altogether unexpected response.
I figured out that it has to do with the sales interactions, as well. LBFBasic, Hard, Help, and Show. This hack prevents ANY kind of relationship-building between the business owners/employees and their clients. So no wonder there was a conflict with the swindlerslist hack. My, my.

I'm always amazed at how quick somebody is to lend a hand. And hey, even most of you use grammar, too.
What is the FS, though? I take it it's an acronym for one of the forum boards? I had a look, but didn't see anything that matches. Or did you mean FFS?

Hey guys
I might be, yet again, run the risk of making a fool of myself, because I'm not sure I downloaded this hack from MATY. I'm pretty sure I did, however, and I think it is a hack that was included in Pescado's OFB Director's cut.
What does this hack do? I've tried searching around, but couldn't find anything. Here is why I need to know:
*** POSSIBLE CONFLICT DETECTED *** File Type: BHAV Procedure Name: Set Social & Relationship Change Group ID: 0x7F862133 Instance ID: 0x00001003 Packages Containing This Procedure: \downloads\LBFBasic.package \downloads\swindlerslist.package
Any ideas?

Thanks for all of the detailed explanations, guys. And I apologise for committing the abhorrent act of necromancy. I was a bit sleep-deprived at the time of posting, and I was under the impression that I had created a new thread. Instead, of course, I was adding to a dead thread. Guess it also happens when you take advantage of the tabs feature of Firefox.
Well, it's a pity. Because I really like that home. I usually only play with one family at a time, and, as such, they get bigger. My sim unexpectedly had twins, and now I'm in need of a home with at least FOUR bedrooms. As home designers generally seem to sacrifice playability for the sake of aesthetics, few decent homes on the internets have more than 3 bedrooms. That's why this home seemed so appealing to me.
I also like that it's budget-y. I have a very nice home that I can use, but it's unfurnished, and I already make many downloads as it is, and don't want the tedious task of looking for decent furniture for a newly decorated home. Besides, others do it so much better anyhow. I'll just have my Tenney family take out another huge loan, but only if I can manage to run a decent business, so I can sell it, and repay another outstanding loan, haha.

TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / "Trepie's Budget Awesomesauce" - expansion packs required?
|
on: 2008 January 03, 03:34:59
|
To my great chagrin, I appear to be missing some required expansion pack for this lot to work. I only have NL and OFB. What is missing?
This lot is perfect for the family that I have been playing for some time now. It fits in perfectly with their budget and family size, and it looks very playable. What a pity. Any questions? Maybe someone would be so ridiculously kind to remove any building features and/or other content from other expansion packs and reload the lot?

Hello, Dr Keith: Some time ago, someone shared with us a nice little program that I am now using. It is called Cacheman. I have the free download and it works wonderfully for me. You might give it a try. It recovers from the paging system in real time, helps with all programs and shows me in the task bar just how much it is recovering and converting to free RAM. http://www.cacheman.com-about.com/If I've gotten the wrong site, would someone kindly correct me? Thanks so very much, and my best to you. Thank you very much, LadyLiberty, for your kind message. And her spelling and grammar is even correct, too. I'll have a look at Cacheman after my computer has been clean and bugfree for a while. I downloaded DAEMON the other day and my computer completely crashed, which is making me a bit weary, being a bit ignorant on computer programmes and when they're dangerous or not.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / "Windows has low virtual memory - increasing memory, applications denied" - help

I know this is not a strictly Sims-related problem, so I'd understand if this thread gets wiped out.
I haven't been able to play Sims for a few days now. Whenever I try to open up the game, it says that 'virtual memory' is low, and that it is entering a process of increasing virtual memory. It's nearing Christmas time, so I don't want to bother the guy that helps me with my computer.
This happens when I enter other commands as well; just about any command. Any tips you guys can give me? I still have about 10GB free hardspace. No other programmes are running when I try to play the game. I quit all applications from the taskbar besides explorer and task manager, so where is all the memory going to?
Any help appreciated.

Okay, I'll report back on that, then. I can buy Seasons for R50 (South African currency), and another R50 for University, so maybe I'll add all of 'em. OFB is a must though, and I imagine that I'll play at least a month or so with this pack. I'm leaving for Taiwan on the first of February, so I'm not sure how much I'll be playing, but I'll keep your request in mind.
Seasons sounds pretty cool, but I'm iffy about my system's capabilities. Pooh.

|

Well guys, I found a solution for my problem. I've managed to talk my parents and my brother into jointly getting me the OFB expansion as a Christmas gift. We're not big on Christmas at all, and only give presents (on most years, anyway), as a family nicety, so no one is expected to blow huge amounts of cash.
So, problem solved! Middle-class Simmies, here I come ...
As an aside, what did you find the most gratifying about OFB? I've heard Pescado refer to 'subhoods'; what would that mean? And is it feasible to run apartments on lots, or is the setup of even this expansion pack still not very conducive to this?
OFB so far sounds like the most interesting EP, followed by Seasons. I'll pick up Seasons some other time. I also like the chemistry mechanism in Nightlife - it makes the hookups and relationships less arbitrary. I care little for the Downtown lot, though. Really, who does? An occasional trip is okay-ish, but other than that, I'm very blase about exiting my Sims' homes. For that very reason, the concept of BV bores me to no end. I heard Pets was on the whole a disappointment, but I might get that one some time, as I've never played with non-Sims in the game, in the original and Sims 2.

Great, thanks for the tips. I'm getting OFB this Sunday, and I already have Nightlife installed. Uni sounds boring to me, so I'll give that a skip. I'll get Seasons down the line, too, probably, if I am sure that my system specs are adequate. I'll be sure to install the two patches for OFB, and assume everything will be fine!

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The 'intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims[number]' cheat is not working
|
on: 2007 December 06, 16:59:38

I just thanked a poster for putting a link to a thread elsewhere on this site, and I got a bleeting sheep as thank you to my thank you! Haha.
Thanks, again, for all the help and trouble, guys. Turns out my problem was silly and very random. I typed in the teach as following:
intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims[8]
as the cheat is indicated as such:
intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims[number]
The poster I set out to thank, posted a link that contained a thread which shows the exact wording of the cheat:
intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims 8
No spaces before the you're supposed to input the number, no explanation that the brackets are not necessary. Very silly. I swore I played around with this in the past to see if the way I input the cheat is faulty, but I couldn't figure it out. Well, I had a birthday party and all of the invited Sims pitched up. Yay!
Anyway, maybe someone else have erred in the same way and they will also be helped.

Oh, feeling bad about possibly pirating it? I downloaded the Nightlife expansion pack from my university network, so it's safe to say that I don't harbour any unnecessary feelings of guilt. The reason I don't have the OFB, is because it is not available on the network in question! So I'll fork out the R175, and feel like a law obeying citizen. It'll be worth it, methinks. Will be fun renting out apartments and appointing a landlord. The childsupport hack is also pretty (dare I say it?) awesome, even if it is located at modthesims2.com (a site I happen to like quite a bit). Will you ostracize me based on the above paragraph?

Hey guys
Thanks to all of the people who offer their tips and suggestions.
I did a search on the file in question, created it, and put it in my ///Config folder ... and I still have the same problem. Who would want to throw a party where you only invite 2 guests? The irony is, whenever I move in a new family onto a lot, about 3 or usually 4 people pitch up to welcome the new residents. Whatever, Maxis.
I also downloaded the Lot Debugger but have little idea as to how this is to help me with my problem. I think Pescado made this suggestion in the case that only one lot offers this problem. I've had this problem for a while, and while I haven't checked, I'm pretty sure this applies to all of the lot, because I had that problem at other times when I played the game. I guess to give it more credibility, I'd have to go and test it on other lots just to be sure, because I haven't done so after creating the cheat file.

Okay, so I can skip the Lot Debugger strategy if I can figure out how to follow the tactic that deals with my userstartup.cheat file. I've been searching for said file in the My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 directory, but to no avail. What is an incompetent novice to do? Maybe if I make fun of myself enough it'll ensure a steady stream of help, at least on this site. Also, Pescado, I've seen you make fun of an individual who is described as being of the ESFP type, or some similar variety. I myself have measured as a Healer Idealist, consistently scoring INFP. What do you make of this relatively scarce group of people? I'd be interested to hear your take. (I'm assuming we're talking Myers Briggs Type Indicator here; if not, kindly ignore this potentially humiliating paragraph.)

Hmmm. I wasn't aware there was an awesomeness rating for excuses as to why I haven't updated my game yet.
I'm currently saving up a measly buck here and there for my year-long stay in Taiwan, coming up this February. So any buck counts at this stage. In addition, I'll only be really able to play the OFB expansion pack for roundabout 2 months, before I take off for parts unknown.
The main reason? I'm already so besotted with this game, I'm getting dreams about my Sims. So it's kind of reaching seriously unawesome levels of preoccupation.
Thanks to all of you, though, for helping out. You never know if you stand a greater chance of being mocked for asking for help, or saying thank you for the help offered. Haha.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / The 'intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims[number]' cheat is not working
|

Hey guys
I was wondering if anyone ever experienced the same problem. I am quite desperate to invite more than 2 Sims over for get-togethers, and despite going to the neighbourhood, and typing in the cheat code as in the topic line, I am not able to invite more than 2 Sims over at any given time. Very frustrating. Any suggestions? Not very exciting throwing a party for 2 guests, how ho-hum.

I have been seriously considering purchasing OFB for the longest time now. Cash flow issues is holding me back, though. In addition, I am wary 'starting over' again. I have tons of hacks and other downloads, and they are all horribly unsorted. I wasn't aware that subfolders within the Downloads folder are workable (I now know that under certain conditions, they are), so it's hundreds and hundreds of rows of content, and removing all of the hacks, and retesting them first, seems like a huge task.
Then again, OFB looks intriguing. It holds the most storytelling and playability value from what I can tell. Seasons also look like fun. I guess I'll make the OFB update soon and painstakingly sort out the hacks and reinstall the updates.
It's ridiculous how much of my time this game consumes!
