Most of my mods are Awesome & I recently updated for NL...so hopefully nothing old floating around. thanks for the program suggestions. I don't have a TON of hacks but they aren't in any particular place which sucks a little. I usually use SimPE to sort by type and then go about things that way.

I think it must be a hack that affects paintings that isn't compatible. Check to see if you have any hacks that affect painting. If you can't find it that way, you can save time by pulling hacks in groups of ten, for instance. I have mine sorted into folders by creator, and I'll start by pulling all hacks except for one creator, then put in the next, and so on till I track down the culprit. I'll usually start by pulling all hacks to make sure the problem isn't in the vanilla game itself.
Thanks, time to search and destroy. I definitely need to organize my d/ls folder as far as hacks. It's a friggin' mess D:

Yes, the lady on the red background is seen always, if you want to keep an hang the painting, but after you do it - you can see the real painted picture, if you raise up the walls. It happens since TS2 (without EPs). Doesn't annoy too much, and isn't connected to any hack.
Weird...hasn't happened to me before; Nightlife is my first EP. I installed Nightlife a couple of months ago and thinking back, this has happened before since then. It's only now that I realized it's being kind of weird - the sim never finishes the painting, etc. Here's the screenshot...

Okay, this one is pretty lame . . . did a search for "easel" but seems people haven't had this problem? Basically whenever a Sim starts a new painting, instead of seeing the canvas & painting as usual, a Maxis picture appears BEHIND the easel. It's the picture of the lady in a black dress on a red background, incidentally. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this, and if it's caused by anything in particular? Wanted to ask before I started removing hacks one by one and testing.

I guess I will just delete the darn thing out of the Lots folder and see if that at least gives me the lot space back, unless anyone has any pointers on how to examine the house in SimPE. (I have only played around w/ Sim files previously.) It's probably not that worth it, though From now on we will be building in a dummy neighborhood for sure! Thank you for the detailed responses you guys

Hey guys, my husband has discovered the Sims 2 recently. He thinks it's a crap game, but loves building houses. Different strokes for different folks.
Anyway, the problem. He spent a few hours today building a house, exited the game a couple of times (after saving both times). He was finally done, and he exited to neighborhood view to see what it looked like from afar. All we saw was a black square; sometimes the square changes to light blue depending on the angle. The lot can't be clicked on, can't be bulldozed. It is basically a black hole of doom.
Any ideas on what is causing this? Could we possibly get the house back, or at least remove the black hole of doom? I found one other thread about this on TSR but there were only a couple of replies and they were like "yeah, what."
A few details:
- Husband used no downloaded/custom objects. - No hacks were used in the creation of the house. - I have several JM and twojeffs hacks installed, but nothing to do with building as far as I know. - House was built in a (fairly unoccupied, white bread) custom neighborhood. I have used SimPE to edit the Sims in this neighborhood, as far as deleting corrupt memories and the like. No other funny business has occurred here. - I have the base game and the nightlife expansion. - Our video card is a geforce 7900 GT.
Thanks!

Thanks, everyone. I think I will follow Ness's advice and just go through each hack . . . remove and replace . . . OR just ignore it like SaraMK said. Just a silly thing, really!

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Floating progress bars

Hey guys - Spending the holiday at my husband's parents' home in Australia; stupidly I forgot to copy my Downloads folder so I've had to redownload a lot of hacks. I'm having a problem with the progress bars & I think it might be due to a conflicting hack or an old hack from this site that I downloaded in error (trying to do this quickly so I can get back to enjoying gameplay! ) I had a phone jump bug because of an old phone hack from here so that's my hunch. Does anyone know what hack might affect progress bars? My Sims will often have progress bars hovering over them even when they're not skill building; when they are, progress bars don't display their actual progress. Other hacks I have in the game are jenflower's homework sometimes, & twojeff's casual romance. Thanks for your help!
