TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Merging family's … problems or buggy?

oops, sorta forgot about this thread. sorry for the bump, but i thought i come back to let you know what has prop caused it, witch i found out later. thank you for your replys. so, Sam is all dead, as he has no character file, but he is still linked, i figured that that is the reason why i can still see him in the lot's control panel. so i guess, i have to unlink him to let him be a normal dead sim. i have prop killed him myself. as a true beginner of extracting sims, i didn't changed the file-name when i started doing this, and sam might be a victem of that. so it is possible that when i merged him with another family there where two Sam's (one in the hood and an extracted one in savedsims-folder). i can imagene that this was too confusing for the game. resurect him, might be a good idea, but i'm afrait that i don't trust sam anymore after finding this out, what has left of him might be messed up as well. luckally i packaged him so i think it's better to install him to get him back. but even that plan was partially changed, coz i now have a new HD and dicided that i better start fresh (with only the ones i want to keep) as it has become a messy and weird hood after my beginners experiments i did in there. I would advise against molesting the Maxian pre-made dead, though.
thank you especially for this one, i've read more about this here, and that is what mainly helped me decide to start fresh. coz basically, if there was a clean way to get rid of sims, then i didn't have to start fresh. my hood would be healthy again if i could get rid of two corruped sims and it wouldn't be messy if i could get rid of a few others. thank you again Jean

Thanks for your reply's.
Well, so far he isn't vanished.
Tried to teleport him with insim. Hmmm, the debugger might be something, haven't used it before.
Yeah, wouldn't want to lose merging families. Basically they are all new sims, made in bodyshop and CAS. I'm filling up several lots with some good looking sims to meet and greet the families I play with. The lots are empty except for the new simmies. I made them one or two at the time put them into one of those lots and only checked them how they look in game.
It sure is a good idea to take a look at him in SimPE, then I an check out the others too. That is if I can recognize it when there is something wrong. But it sure is a good thing to do, although I haven't seen anything happen trying to age him, he might be aged anyway.
Thanks again.

Did a search on merging to find out if merging family's is known to be buggy, but could not find such a thing so maybe it has something to do with my game. So, I'll just tell you what happened.
Two lots, two sims each. Moved one household into the simbin and moved them into the other lot. Result: one lot, four sims. Clicked on the lot to look at the picture expecting to see four sims … Sam is missing. Loaded the lot to see what was going on. Four sims in the list at the left side of the screen, but Sam is nowhere to be seen on the lot. Paused the game, selected Sam and then there is a plumpbob above the ground near the mailbox.
Tried to let him walk, teleport or whatever. No face in the middle of the menu and he can't do anything. Tried to move him out by letting Binker taking him with him. Binker goes in the taxi, Sam can't. Game in an impasse. Rebooted pc and restarted game. All four are still on the lot, same situation. Moved all four of them to another lot. Same situation, except Sam now also lost his plumpbob. If I double click on his icon, the focus goes to the mailbox.
Left things for a while to figure out what to do. Tried to age Sam, no effect. Eventually I moved Jared and Justin out, coz those are the two I don't want to lose. Before all this Sam was extracted and cloned, so I can get him back. Binker I wanted to get rid of anyway. Tried to merge Jared and Justin into another household with four other sims … game crached while merging!
Deleted some new mods, deleted groups.cache and empyed thumpnail-folder. Game is running again, did have a hard time opening the simbin of the hood, but eventually it managed. Jared and Justin are ‘back' in the simbin. So now I don't know what to do, I don't want to make things worse. So now I have some questions, hopefully someone can give some advise.
1. Can I thrust merging households, or can I better not use it anymore. 2. Or is there something else wrong in my game, a symptom of something worse. 3. Can Sam be saved or can I better move him and Binker to the simbin and then in the trash. 4. Can I safely try to move Jared and Justin into a (empty) lot, or can I better extract and clone them before that.
Well, that's it … I think. Thank you in advance.

that is a great idea. it's just that i don't know how to split them. i'm playing two hoods, witch have different themes, but not in terms of style, more in terms of story-line. so i live with it, i'll take a shower and do other stuff during the half hour it needs to start up.
btw, after playing once my groups.cache is 563K, i guess i have to delete it every time.
thanks zz

Yessss, it worked! it started without trouble. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
Had to empty the thumbnail-folder a few days ago coz CAS was doing strange, stupid i forgot about this one. LOL, after loading the first lot now my groups.cache is only 14 kB.
Erm, I do have a lot of downloads (15,200 files, 4,7 GB), no terrains or lots though. Stupid again, coz i suspected that cc let those files grow out of proportion. I just didn't know that it could result in starting problems. I'm going to follow your advise BlueSoup and delete that file every time.
thanks again, you really saved my day.

ok, i'm in a panic, i really hate reinstalling my pc.
yesterday everything was fine, today my sims-game don't start. when i click the icon the cd-drive comes to life, the white intro screen appears and dissapears again and the cd-drive stops.
tryed all the shortcuts i could find, also the .exe on the HD and the CD. cleaned my HD and did a defrag. Checked the CD, whitch is brand new, well, just a few days. Oh, and rebooted my pc.
the latest news i got, is that windows lost it and that i have to reinstall it.
hope that there is somebody out here who can help me.
Thanks in advance. Jean

i've been talked into using the InSIM, they told me it was more safe then testingcheats, well don't know, still tying to get used to it. some things i like, but now i know how many baby's they are expecting. some how i 'don't like to know this. as for exspecting birth-time i just looked at the time when their belly does ..ploink.. and add 25 hours. jean

lol, i was mislead too for a while, but lurking around things begame clear.
yeh, i do need something for this, ritalin i think. if i enter my download-folder i have to stare for ages to that dancing flashlhite. that's why i started with clean installer. one long wait, but after that it's easy sorting by type and moving. then i have some nice 'little' batches to look at.
zz, thank you for explaining, you really helped me find a way how to handle this.
myskaal, lol, i think i begame a fashion freak too, even though i'm not irl.
thank you both, jean

yes, myskaal and zz, that's exactly what i'm worrying about. just did a check on my download-folder it's 2.85 GB. i know i'm nuts, sometimes adhd is not a nice thing to have.
yeh, i probbably find a way to handle new downloads in a organised way. for now i have forbidden myself to download, because i act like a kid in a candystore. all these downloads i have gathered in a month time or so. and as they came in big loads i just all unzipped them and put hem in. later i discoverd clean installer, but that was too late from preventing making the mess i have now.
but i did find my head, i'm going to start to sort my floors and walls, those must be fairly easy to do. after that the objects, because some are messing up the CEP-effect.
anyway, i was thinking about the mysterius left-overs. is it possible to identify them in a clean game, some kind of batch testing or something? i mean start the game (one you don't play with) without the leftovers, but with the other downloads and see that you are missing? or the other way around and see if there is anything there?

Ooh, i do have the same problem. my game does still work (only a very slow start-up), but i know there are many errors due to bad objects. and there are many clothing and hair that are not functioning (btw. i have not downloaded lots yet). as i still have the original downloads i was thinking to use another accound on my pc and build-up there a new download-file. these are my problems:
1. how do i prevent myself from putting in the same wrong stuff. 2. is there a quick way because i do have about 3800 original downloads. 3. i don't even know if i can find the mesh if it is not included. 4. looking at something with cleaninstaller i don't always regognise what it is, especially the objects. 5. sometimes even cleaninstaller don't know what it is. 6. soon i wil get nl, some downloads, may need that to function. do i better wait for it?
i do have some more questions. i have a nice costom tv in game. it looks like it fuctions oke, but when i opend the cheat-barr i saw there was an errror something to do with sound. also found errors relating to the sims function determing if they like the surrounding airia, the whole room is made with costum stuff. i am now wondering if i have to test every object one by one in game to be really sure that it is not causing any errors.
well, the bottom line i think is, that i can't find head nor tails.

In the Dutch community the av. age is from 11 to 15, some are even youger. Here the age for the game is set at 12+. There the people around my age can be counted on one or two hands. It is quiet a releaf to discover sites like this.

thank al lot zz, it worked. well, could not find the list on top. i think i have another version. anyway, found out that just one right-clik on the picture of who i want to add gives the option. seems i have to edit their relations in both places. now i'm going to try this on my aliëns.

thank you zz. i tryed that, in the case of the aliens the pic's of them are all there because they are siblings, then it is easely chanced. but in the other case the son is alone, and if i click on the dad he is also allone. i don't know how to get them both in the right part where you can set this relationship.

comming back on my 6 aliens we talked about. today i had my first session with simpe. tryed to gave two of them their second parent, because it was not in simpe visable eihter. messed up, put the backup back. tryed again with a little less complicated situation. the two in my avatar are added to my family with tombstone l and d, so they don't have family at all. now they are father and son, that's what they are supposed to be. i gave him also a teen-mum, created the same way.
tested in the game and now i can see in their relation-pic's that they are related. but it does not show up in their family-tree-thing. seems i can not change that with simpe. is there a way to do that or do i just have to wait until the thing refresses, due to aging or birth or something.
btw. with the aliens i tryed to set uncle and aunt, but that option was not there. go and try tomorow again. if possible i want them to have their birth-parent inthere. well, with two of them, one is suppost to be a clone of pt.

sleepycat - love the white one, somehow it does look different, most white skins i have seen are goth-like. i don't know excatly to put it into words. thank you for the new tp's, wonder how they look like, hopefully i can see them in cas. the tp on laverwinklesims looks realy nice. now i can make a hole lot of different aliëns. love to mix them with the 6 i have.
on mts2 they talked about it. some did have no problem after installing nl, some did. they reiinstalled the hack, after that it workt fine. well, that's what i understood.
i have to go back to my game, reorganise some things, test some things and install a lot new stuf. but for days i'm reading here, there is so many info. really great.
