1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No customers spawn at business on: 2014 April 23, 04:43:08
Yimmits are known throughout the system worlds for their stupidity. When they were first encountered on the planet Nosac, legions of pre-teen girls wanted to bring them home as pets. Their mothers asked, "are they housebroken?" Their fathers, being more inclined to indulge their daughters, only asked the xenobiologists if the stupidity was contagious. Since the specialists asked for more time to study to reach a conclusion, the fathers indulged their daughters. Ever since then, the galaxy has been inundated by the slothlike Yimmits. They infest all the new worlds, and, although their stupid has not been proven to be catching, they vex all they come in contact with. Xarth Comey has come to ridiculed by comers far and wide with his latest TED talk, "The Yimmit, and why you should listen."

Meaning, could I have had one and set it wrong and deleted it and put a new one down and all ok. Does the customer selector remember settings after a delete? You could very well have been right the first time, since I want my playables to buy snapdragons.
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No customers spawn at business on: 2014 April 20, 22:04:27
yeah, no, there was no customer selector on the lot. But I put one down and all of a sudden, customers!

baa, maybe. I still don't get it. I need to have one on the lot? I usually do, but...
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / No customers spawn at business on: 2014 April 14, 06:21:40
I have a flower shop that I made years ago when I first got OFB that I have used successfully in 5+ neighborhoods over the years. Tricia just got her gold floristry badge and bought it and hired an employee. When she arrived at the lot, no customers spawned. Employee came in when called with BRY. I checked all the settings on the customer selector and they were normal. The open/close sign was in the "closed" position when she entered and usually a newly purchased business is in open when my sims arrive on the lot for a first visit.

I had her sell it back to the community, deleted the copy in the neighborhood, reloaded the lot from the bin. Same. No customers.

Odd thing is, I remember this happened as well with a little cheap poster store I use as a first business for some of my teens. Once I actually played it to level 10 summoning sims with the shrub, but that got really tedious. After being played to level 10 it worked fine for later owners. But that happened again the first time I used it in this neighborhood too. That time I just selected another business from my bin and that one worked fine. The poster business has also been used successfully in other neighborhoods.

Is it time to give up and build Tricia a new flower shop, or does anyone have any suggestions? The lot is quite efficient when I can get customers to show up.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Still planing with TS2 anyone ? on: 2010 June 06, 05:05:20
The thing I miss most from TS1 is the gnome-making bench (and the gargoyle-making bench, I suppose).

I completely forgot how bummed I was that there was no gnome-making bench in the Sims 2. I looked through every category in buy mode the first day I had the game.

My computer can't run 3 and I still play 2 as much as I ever did. I even have two uninstalled expansion packs around here somewhere.
5  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Adults don't live in dorms! on: 2009 July 03, 06:47:25
Yes, they are living happily in their homes in the main hood. Eloise moved back with her Mom and Dad. They are all living where they are supposed to be and where they have been living for almost 3 sim days. Bob and Darla are living together and married and expecting their first child the next time I play their house (family sims get right to business).

Their pictures are their adult ones and not their YA ones. Darla's about to pop in the info pic on the dorm.
6  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Adults don't live in dorms! on: 2009 July 03, 06:03:01
I fired up my game today after a long hiatus and went to play my university. The last time I had visited, the only occupied residence was the Greek house. This is all very weird and kind of long, but bear with me. I can restore from backup, but I want to see if anyone has any suggestions about how I could possibly fix this.

When the Uni neighborhood loaded, I found two green plumbobs staring at me. One above a (supposedly) unoccupied dormitory. I clicked to see who was living in this empty dorm and found five adult sims in the portrait, all of whom are adults and are living in the main hood. Now this dorm has seen a lot of use. Dozens of my sims have lived there, usually just for a semester before they transfer to the Greek house. All five adults had moved to the Greek house before leaving the university neighborhood, but they had all lived in this dorm at the same time.

Before I entered the lot, I loaded the main hood and went into the house of one of the five who were shown as living in the dorm. The teleporter shrub showed no "Kids" household (my default name for the sims who live in a dorm), there were no duplicate characters in anyone's phone panels (I checked Eloise and her mom, who has the business perk displaying all characters in the phonebook).

I had a sim who was supposed to move to college, so I tried to see what would happen if he moved in. Teenage Clark was in the loading panel, along with married Bob and (very pregnant) Darla cuddling and the other three adults standing around them.

Clark was alone when the dorm loaded. The two playables who had lived in the dorm before (not part of the adult five) still had their pictures on their doors. The dormies didn't reset, so Clark claimed a playable's old room. A dormie came to claim the other room. No cafeteria worker came.

I moved Clark out and into the bin. All five adults came with him in the picture in the bin. I moved him into another dorm. The adults were still in the loading screen and he was still alone in the dorm. All dormies were reset this time and moved in as usual and this time a cafeteria worker arrived. Clark pledged the Greek house and I switched to play that lot and moved Clark onto that lot.

When I went back to the neighborhood, the adults were "living" in the new dorm. The plumbob is there, I load the lot and get only buy/build enabled. If I try to demolish the lot, the game tells me the "Kids" household has to be moved out before I can do that.

So is there any way to fix this, or should I just restore from backup and raze the dorm before this can happen again? I've been playing this hood a little over a year and have about 275 playables (dead and alive, according to the census tool) and only about 200 NPCs running Uni, NL, OFB, Seasons. Is this just a lot problem, or is my neighborhood dying on me?
7  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Nasty glitch on: 2008 October 04, 18:45:33
...I could make it work. Who has a Mac and wants to find out?

That would be awesome (needless to say); I may test it in BV (no FT nor AL for us Mac paeons, probably forever).

I could test up to Seasons (no pets).
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack for canceling out of automated prepare food from fridge? on: 2008 August 15, 00:52:31
And actually, it wastes to food to make fish as single meals because you can always serve it and get six times the food out of it.

True, but this will never happen autonomously, either. Sims simply don't cook fish on their own.
Sure they do. Both single and group meals of fish. In fact, I have to watch my fishing houses closer than others to make sure that they don't make fish when I don't want to...sometimes I'm not in the mood to play the no-don't-throw-out-a-half-plate-of-fish dance.

I was ready to kill one of my sims who decided to have a tasty one-plate serving of Golden Trout when I turned my back for a moment!
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's on YOUR Wish List? on: 2008 August 10, 20:22:16
Anything to get rid of the stupid "stand dates up" gameplay function.  Seriously, one time my Sim was standing outside waiting for the taxi to come and he STILL stood up the date.

If it doesn't tell you the taxi will pick you up shortly, you have to call a taxi yourself. Doesn't that mostly happen on outings and not dates?
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Game Play Questions, How do YOU play? on: 2008 July 24, 22:31:31
How do you extract the character thumbnails to use them in the family tree?
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fears and Wants that don't trigger on: 2008 April 16, 16:21:04
No, it is the 'look through telescope' want that pleasure sims always seem to get. The stargazing want triggers just fine. I am wondering if it is because I have 'No Shoving from Look Through' installed.

I've only had that one trigger after the neighbor comes and shoves. I believe the actual name of the want is "Look at Neighbors," not "Look Through Telescope."
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fears and Wants that don't trigger on: 2008 April 11, 04:22:59
Tonight I had a business owner with the want to promote his cashier to manager. I put her on sales and she got her requisite 5 badges. He promoted her to manager, but the want didn't trigger.
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fears and Wants that don't trigger on: 2008 April 10, 04:30:56
"Buy a karaoke machine" never triggers for me (I'm playing with just the EPs up to Pets), and I've had problems getting "Get fit" to trigger for a pregnant sim, though I haven't had a chance to try it with any sims that aren't pregnant.

I've never had "Get fit" trigger, even when locked. Sim does the "sproing, now I'm fit" animation, but no trigger. I stopped bothering to lock it after a while.

talk to relative, did not work when my sim talked to relative on the phone.
In my game this has never worked on the phone. You have to invite them over and gossip!
Works for me. I just did it recently.

I wish this did work in my game. It's especially annoying at college during winter (I've got a bunch there right now) and all the family members are at school/work.

15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: autonomous copycat behaviour (behavior) on: 2008 January 11, 19:30:22
The one and only time I did this (at a wedding party), the guests all left and the party score immediately plummeted to Disaster. My sims went around sobbing for days and got no honeymoon limo. I don't recommend it.

Good to know. I was too lazy to test this myself.
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: autonomous copycat behaviour (behavior) on: 2008 January 09, 16:23:34
In my game the essential ingredients have always been:

1) 11 pm
2) Stereo on

No outside festivities necessary and the cops don't necessarily come.

Often I'm happy for them to come at that point because all autosocializing is finished and the score is plenty high enough for the needed aspiration boost for the host. But every once in a while 11pm rolls around and they don't get busted.

Which leads to my just wondered...if I say goodbye to everyone and all guests leave, will the party lose its "not bad/good time/rr" status slowly or will that remain static?
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's in YOUR Downloads? on: 2007 December 20, 15:32:49
I use most of the OFB DC, except those that absolutely don't work on my mac, such as the poolhack and daily gardener. After Santa next week and the anticipated acquisition of Seasons, who knows what will become necessary. Those two may work then and, if so, I will use them.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: More bullshit from Massive Shithead on: 2007 December 14, 06:17:08
When I moved into my place, I started to get worried about Lauren. She had doctors, her child's school, all kinds of people after her. Then I realized that the number used to belong to the local Cingular store and Lauren had been the victim the phone company had selected before me.

Cingular store number from their location in one of the biggest shopping districts in my city THAT WAS STILL PRINTED IN THE LATEST PHONEBOOK!!!

(Whew, sorry for the shouting, bad memories.)
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Myths, urban legends.... and alien abduction on: 2007 December 04, 09:11:25
In a new hood, it's the first playable created (lowest character file #), even if they're still in the sim bin, or just plopped in a lot and never played again.

Or spawned as a townie and then moved in and made playable. For a while after my first playable died, it was Colby, who had married Daisy. Once Blaine married Meredith, she took over as shover even though Colby is still around.
20  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Bathroom Controller: In Soviet Russia, Bathroom Uses You! on: 2007 November 20, 07:11:05
I've been having problems lately on multiple lots with the emptying of the toddler potty. Sim goes into bathroom to flush contents. Said contents sort of vanish and no flushing takes place. Sim is booted out of the bathroom. Afterwards the terlet is "in use" and unusable and has to be deleted with moveobjects on.
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims take care of selves: World implodes on: 2007 November 14, 08:46:12
I know the bathroom auto repair is a feature of the FOJ's BUY.

And I love the way it makes stupid visitors unclog their own mess. Then I don't care how long it takes them.
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims take care of selves: World implodes on: 2007 November 11, 04:57:37
Oh man, ever since I installed OFB, my sims have been crazy about the auto-repair. I'd have one occasionally with just uni+nl, but now I'll have sims walk all the way across the lot or up to the third floor to try to fry themselves. Especially with the computer, but with the dishwasher as well. I've never seen it with the TV.

Every once in a while, I let them repair away even if they don't have the skill for it. But no casualties yet. *yawn*

But that MP3 player thing is very weird. I haven't let a sim have one in so long that I would never witness something like that.
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How many square feet is a grid? on: 2007 November 08, 22:23:21
Nil, thanks for the link to the spreadsheet. And just yesterday I printed a floor plan to play with. I'll give it a go this evening and see if it speeds up the process.

I hate building and usually do it free-hand and all my houses end up looking exactly alike.

Random phone call comes at 6.
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Locked Wants Disappear on: 2007 October 15, 21:02:09
I remember the rolling wants because I was running only Uni on my old computer that just died last March. The offending item was the cell phone, not the handheld.

Adding Nightlife made the problem *poof* disappear.

The wants would automatically reroll hourly or sometimes just as you used the spacebar to move through the lot residents. Locked wants had often disappeared when you re-entered a house (Lucy Burb had that want to have a baby want locked, goddammit!).

Sometimes they would just roll and roll and roll and roll and roll and roll and .... I finally found dashing briefly into buy/build would stop them. Dang that used to be so annoying!
