1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Store & Exchange Open for viewing on: 2009 May 29, 21:55:09
What happens if you have to take your computer offline, and you just installed some files from the Exchange directly into your game? Will they even show up in your game?

So far, the only things that you can download as a file are the housing lots (though I only saw one). I don't like the fact that everything else has to be installed from the website directly into the game, and that if you want to delete it from your game, you have to uninstall it from the website. That sucks.
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 May 20, 00:04:18
I have not posted here in a very long time. After reading all these posts, I've decided to ARRR my copy of TS3, since it doesn't look like it would be worth me spening the $50 which I don't have at the moment. My question is this:

I was going to try to DL from Pirate Bay or ISOhunt, but on both sites some guy named B_O_L_T has been posting a warning that the download contains a virus in the setup.exe file; it's a codec file. Actually, this is what this person says:

***contains virus***
The file Sims3Setup.exe is a self-deflating executable archive. It contains two files, the real "sims3setup.exe" and a file "codec.exe", the archive runs both when called by Autorun.exe. The file codec.exe is a virus dropper.

Before downloading from either site, I want to verify whether this is true or not. The Admin on PB says the DL checks out, but I"m leery of getting anyting on my computer that has a virus. Is there anyone who can verify this before I start?

(has lost track of how many times she has been banninated).

Thanks for posting the screen shot. People are *still* making threads about the TSR thing on the BBS even though they were told not to.
And my vacation lasts until 5/29/2009.

Sweet.

(but I have a back door)
4  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: The Case of the Disappearing Downtown on: 2006 November 28, 11:51:22
Is that considered patronizing in English? Weird....

I've been accused of sounding patronizing in real life as well, Jordi.

Next time try phrasing your comment like this:

TwoJeffs has a no pet obessesion mod/hack in his forum you might want to try.

That actually sounds helpful.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building/Upgrading a PC for TS2 - Update, 14 July on: 2006 July 22, 08:02:52
Thanks for the explanations.

I plan to spend some serious money on geting  a new comp when the time comes.
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building/Upgrading a PC for TS2 - Update, 14 July on: 2006 July 20, 23:12:33
You might be very lucky to even find a cpu for a seven year old machine I'm afraid Jarsie. A lot has changed in that time. I think Gateway are not high end anyway. Laeshanin recently got a really good package deal with reasonable quality components, it might pay to look for something like that.

Your board probably wouldn't take today's video cards either.

Okay, excuse my ignorance, but I thought the CPU was the tower with everything in it. That's what I was talking about, not the hardrive. I'm talking about replacing the whole enchilada, but just the tower with the main components.

I realize that CPU means central processing unit (if I'm not mistaken) but I thought that was included in the machine when you bought the tower with all its components (like the hard drive and the dvd/cd drives that come with it.

And some stores are selling the towers with the components, so I shouldn't have to replace my monitor, mouse or keyboard. That's what I'm referring to, and if anybody knows a good brand, please let me know, because, frankly, I don't have the know how or the time to build it myself, and I don't trust anyone but my son-in-law to do it for me.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building/Upgrading a PC for TS2 - Update, 14 July on: 2006 July 18, 20:00:33
Okay, I'll freely admit to being an end-user here. Wouldn't know the first thing about building my own pc. I usually rely on my son-in-law for those chores, but since he's busy these days...

Can anybody recommend a solid store bought machine that will run my Sims 2 and all the EP's with no problems? That's about the only game I have on this machine...plus a couple of minor games that I seldom play with.

I'm looking to replace the CPU on my current seven year old machine, which is a modified Gateway. I see that some stores are just selling the CPU and not the whole package, and that's really all I need. Everything else is good. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this kind of question, but like I said...I'm an end user. What do I know? Not a whole lot.
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I'm Tired of Looking For This...Point me in the right direction. on: 2006 June 29, 03:38:30
Thanks, guys. I found TwoJeff's mod and I will install that in the game. I *knew* that there was something out there, I just couldn't think of it right off hand.

Many thanks for the coffin link as well. Going to download THAT puppy right now!

Thanks, again!
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / I'm Tired of Looking For This...Point me in the right direction. on: 2006 June 29, 03:25:09
I've been looking all over Mod The Sims 2 and this site for a teleprompter that I can put in a community lot. I made a cemetary with a small chapel/viewing room, and I want a podium so a Sim can deliver a "eulogy".

I think I'd also like a closed casket too. I'm currently using a vampire bed.

If anyone knows where I can find these items, *please* give me a link and I will cheerfully go download them...please!
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Social for toddlers please!!!! on: 2006 June 28, 16:12:13
They don't have a laughing hysterically icon...shame.  Was that a serious question?

Yes, it was a serious question, just like yours was. And a sincere attempt to help you solve your problem. I think *somebody* in here needs a serious attitude adjustment.

You asked about a certain social for toddlers, and others pointed out to you a *possible* solution to your problem. Why do I get the feeling that you think you're better than the people on this forum?
Could it be because of the tone of your reply?
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Will you ever... on: 2006 May 19, 21:53:24
I never use any of those mods.

And I was a victim of incest. It wasn't fun at the time. I try not to think about it. That's something that's hard for people to understand...it sounds intriguing, but if you were a victim of it, it leaves scars. Believe me, I know.

Nuff said.
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Patch is out for FFS on: 2006 May 06, 15:47:14
Ella-true, I said Ikea-like because it's the only brand name furniture I could come up with off the top of my head. The point I was trying to make to Maxoid Tom is that Maxis is capable of coming up with better stuff that would appeal to a wide range of people. As for me being impressed by ape and princess costumes if they were available at a CC site, just because they're different, nah. I regularly cruise CC sites, and believe me, I've learned not to download anything that I don't intend to use...and I have no use for an ape or a princess costume.

You're welcome to worship at he altar of Maxis all you want, but let's face it...the company screwed the pooch on this one. They're trying to sell to a younger less sophisticated customer, when it's the older more sophisticated customer that has not only the simoleans, but the inclination to buy the stuff...*if* they feel it's worth the money. Maybe, just maybe...this will teach them to pay attention to the customer base that has the most bucks....or maybe not.
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Patch is out for FFS on: 2006 May 06, 00:34:34
Maxoid Tom,

I want you to know that the main reason *I* didn't buy this pack is because of the lack of content. I also understand it adds some of the interactions that are available in other expansion packs, and I have to say, that I really don't think that was such a great idea.

The reason for that is, that if people want those interactions, they should buy the expansion packs that have them. Those of us who already have all of the EP's already have all the interactions, so why should we have to pay extra to get the same thing twice?

I would have bought FFS in a heartbeat if it had had more *quality* objects, including EP specific items such as new cars for NightLife, and even some new meshes such as baby strollers and bunk beds. That would have been worth the $20 or so that EA/Maxis charged for the booster pack.

But, with me being able to pay that much to download *quality* custom content from sites such as The Well Dressed Sims and The Sims Resource, why should I pay Maxis for very little content, most of which I would never even bother to download from my favorite sites?

I honestly hope that the next booster pack, if Maxis decides to make any more, doesn't contain any of the options already available in other packs, and does contain more quality content, such as bunk beds, strollers, and stuff we can't normally get for the game unless we download it from a CC site. I think I am pretty safe in saying that Maxis has the potential to compete with even the most popular CC sites and give them a run for their money. I know that there are Simmers who would rather pay top dollar to get all of their content from Maxis because they are afraid of downloading from fan websites.

So, if you guys decide to do another booster pack, I hope you'll make some more sophisticated and more realistic items (such as Ikea-like furniture), of the type which discriminating adults such as myself normally have to go to Custom Content websites to download for free. I would guarantee you I would buy a booster pack with 125 items if it was mainly objects that people have been asking for in the Suggest an Idea forum. I'd even buy a working washer and dryer! Now *THAT'S* dedication for ya!

Oh yes, one more thing: I don't suppose you could add an option where we could delete Maxis made clothing we don't want in our games and would never use? All those animal customs in OFB come to mind. I'll never use them, and see no reason why they should take up so much space in my CAS clothing bin.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wow. What a no-life loser I am! on: 2006 May 01, 05:34:31
Blue, as far as I remember, all the Sheep Hunters (Simposeium) that deleted their account in MATY, had to start all over again. Thus, Trublle, LK, you, and anyone else, when returned to MATY - lost all your time points.

I remember that Twain didn't deleted his account - smart boy...Smiley

Even so, you and me are on the same level 30 days (and 15 hours, 57 minutes in my account), although I was here since the beginning. So, consider yourself a winner...Smiley.

P.S.  Why does it matter? Do you get more ripped lips?  Cheesy Cheesy

Gali...WHICH Sheep Hunters deleted their accounts? Because as far as I know, only Trubble did.

I tried to delete mine, and couldn't. JM disabled the delete function claiming that it messed with the MATY forums or something like that. But to the best of my knowledge nobody at Sheephunters deleted their accounts, except for Trubble.

I wonder where do you get your information?
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Found Solution to Blurry Graphics on: 2006 April 22, 21:03:55
I had to change my graphics from high to medium, and I just got a new graphics card. But I don't have the world's fastest processor, and I only have 512K memory, so I think I'm doing pretty good the way it is.

What's more, the game looks realistic enough to me even with the details set on medium, and I don't get too much lag.
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 'Juice bar' on a business lot on: 2006 March 18, 08:27:38
I deleted the power espresso machine that I got from MTS2 from my downloads folder, and my Sims seem to just drink espresso when they have a low energy need; much better than having them drink espresso after espressso.

Regarding the bakery...I'm kinda ticked that I can't make many servings, because the game doesn't recognize that the owner has them in his/her inventory. I tried playing the Jacquet bakery and finally gave up on it. I hope that Maxis fixes this in its patch. Otherwise, running a bakery is an exercise in futility.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's your second and third impression of OFB? on: 2006 March 04, 08:01:01
I read on the BBS that before an employee can be promoted to manager, they have to have 5 badge points.

Gold = 3 pts, silver = 2 pts, and bronze = 1 pt.

So I think it depends on the kind of badge and the number of badges your employee has.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: what!? no next EP hint in OFB box? on: 2006 February 27, 22:55:59
Sorry, but I'm not that impressed with what I've seen of the new family fun pack.

I've seen (and gotten) better looking furniture at the Well Dressed Sim and The Sims Resource for free.

What Maxis oughta do if they *REALLY* want to rake in the big bux is to run a TSR style downloads page with exclusive Maxis products...did I mention it would only be availabe for a monthly fee? Maybe have a rotation like TSR has so that other players can get certain objects for free, but they only offer one or two items that are part of a set, and if you want the rest you have to *subscribe* to their Downloads page.

Wonder how the Sheeple would react to that? I bet half would be howling bloody murder and threaten to boycott Maxis, and the other half would be kissing Maxis butt and signing up to be a monthly subscriber. What say you?
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Are EP1/University compatible careers okay with Nightlife? on: 2005 October 20, 05:10:26
Do custom careers replace the default Maxis ones?

I downloaded the modeling career from MTS2 once, and it replaced a default Maxis one, so I took it out.

I wouldn't mind a couple of custom careers but I don't want them replacing the default Maxis ones.

Does anybody have any links to those custom careers?
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Holiday Addon pack announced on: 2005 October 12, 21:04:32
I'll bet that the new holiday themed base game is only available on CD's and not on DVD's.

I mistakenly bought it in DVD, but I'm glad I did since I only have to put 1 disc in to reinstall rather than have to hassle with 4 discs. But that may be why it's $10 cheaper, because it only comes in CD version.

Of course I could be wrong about that, but I haven't seen anything about a new DVD version.
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Morality & The Sims on: 2005 September 28, 03:11:22
Well, folks, it's been real. Now I know why I stay away from these kinds of discussions.

I'm going back to RetardoLand.

Y'all have a nice day.

Oh, and NothingButSims...kiss my brown ass.
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Morality & The Sims on: 2005 September 27, 21:24:03
And the point I was trying to make is that sometimes people don't realize their own prejudice. You can point out an inconsistency and make the person think about their own beliefs without jumping on them. I think people are more open to honest examination of their beliefs and attitudes when they are not being jumped on for being racist...especially if they didn't intend offense.

Okay. I concede that I overreacted. Would it make all of you feel more comfortable if I said nothing instead and let it ride?

Granted, I could have expressed my opinion in a milder tone...but it's done now, and I stand by what I said.
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Morality & The Sims on: 2005 September 27, 21:21:39
Wendy, I read your post and didn't think anything of it.  What I was shocked by was the response you got by Momthing.  People post all kinds of stuff on this forum.  My personal opinion - if you don't like what you've just read, certainly don't attack the writer.  If they have offended you in some way, there's a 99% chance they didn't even realize they did it ... and what does it matter anyway?  This forum is about the Sims not about so-and-so posted something and it has offended me so I need to let them know how I feel.  You're just wasting JM's bandwith.

So now, typing in an honest reaction to a point someone made is wasting JM's bandwidth?

Gee, pardon me, I didn't know I was on the politcally correct The Sims 2 BBS. Pardon me while I slink away with my tail tucked between my legs.
24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Morality & The Sims on: 2005 September 27, 21:11:17

When I first read the posting you quoted, I had a slight reaction similiar to yours. HOWEVER, in the rest of the post, Windy_Moon talked about this being a way to open a dialogue about race perceptions and how stereotypes are not always true. I think you did a disservice by focusing on only part of the post.

I am not a perfect person. While I strive to live my life in a color-blind, religious-blind, etc., tolerant way, I realize that there are times when I am racist and/or prejudicial without intending to be. What is important is that I strive to improve. I believe what is important in Windy_Moon's post is that he/she strives to pass along values of not judging people by their appearance....even if he/she sometimes falls short of that goal.

You can choose to attack someone or try to open a dialogue with them. I don't think people's beliefs and attitudes change when they are being attacked.

Yet, she chose to use a stereotype to illustrate what she thought a successful Black man should wear, which is why I jumped on that post. The rest of it doesn't negate the fact that the poster also operates in a stereotypical fashion.
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Morality & The Sims on: 2005 September 27, 21:08:45
Anyone find it ironic that in a rant about a possible racist post the ranter asks about Orientals?

We are asian. Things can be oriental, people cannot.

My bad sanmonroe. I stand corrected on that point. But I still stand by the rest of my rant. It's stereotypical to decide what a successful person of any race should look like based on what they're wearing.
