1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Interest in a Mars neighborhood? on: 2018 January 27, 18:35:00
You're still alive? Did Fairlight let you out of the basement?

Yeah, I actually just got married. Not to Fairlight. He came to the wedding, though. I also just bought a house, which is like the sims but more expensive.

I learned how to program, too, so I'm thinking it might be cool to do an NRAAS modification to the factions thing to let you set factions to hate each other so my aliens and humans can fight. Assuming I have time for that, which I probably don't. I think there might be some logical issues, too - I'm not sure how it should handle sims who are in both factions, or children inheriting a faction if the factions are at war.

Right now the neighborhood doesn't have roads at all, just canals. I'm playtesting it and it seems to work okay so long as you turn off the animals, because the horses get routing errors. The canals have to go all the way to the edge of the routeable area, otherwise the sims try to do an end run around them instead of getting in a speed boat. I think there might also be an issue with school field trips - do those require a bus? The sims seem to move pretty fast with the IP taxi boats. The carpool not coming is annoying, but I've managed to have my sims keep their jobs by leaving for work as soon as the carpool notification shows up so I don't forget about it. Non-active families seem to be getting to work just fine, although that might be the result of NRAAS/Awesomemod pushing them. I think it's a fun concept, but maybe I should just bite the bullet and deal with customizing and building all the goddamn bridges. Opinions/other playtesters welcome.

Does Awesomemod automatically make people use hoverboards/jetpacks as part of the less stupid movement if their skill is high enough?
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Interest in a Mars neighborhood? on: 2018 January 13, 05:11:17
I've been working on a Mars neighborhood for TS3, which I still play sometimes. You primarily navigate the hood via canals. It's a fantasy-style mars with a bunch of EA's alien/magic vegetation, although it could be pretty simply be removed if I decide to make it more realistic. There will be aliens and humans who hate each other, for MOAR FIGHT.

My question: is anyone still playing this game?

Sorry it took so long for me to notice the thread. Sigmund, would you be willing to upload both? I'm glad you've found a way to fix the crashing, I could never figure it out. I would like to have the fixed CAW files personally, because I might like to update it more, but I can't guarantee that will happen anytime soon. So if you could upload your fixed version for people to play with, that would be great.

This mod supposedly fixes that, although I'm not sure if it needs to be updated for 1.55.

Has anyone else had trouble with build/buy mode on the houseboats? I'm not sure if we are supposed to be able to use it or not. The buttons for build/buy are grayed out when I am zoomed in, but they become available when I zoom out to the neighborhood view, so I can still make changes if I just zoom out first. It's odd.
6  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomemod Request Thread on: 2013 June 04, 14:14:43
If possible, I'd really like to see a small UI change so that when we mouseover a lot in edit town it displays the size of the lot, not just the price. Otherwise, I have to click on each lot individually and open up the lot menu in order to determine the smallest possible lot the one I am trying to place will fit on, then select the lot I want to place and drop it instead of doing everything in one go. I want to place as many of the lots I've downloaded as I can into my custom neighborhoods, so there's no sense wasting space that I might need for a bigger lot. It really would save a huge amount of time so we wouldn't have to keep going back and forth to compare things over and over again if we can't memorize the sizes of all the similar-looking lots in a neighborhood at once.

Do you plan on adding a cheat to award University degrees ala TS2? I find playing through more than 1 semester of university kinda pointless. My sims have already maxed out grades/social groups, and it's just boring. I don't have the patience to play through 8 semesters of this crap for every YA (or however long it takes). Alternately, could there  be some way to accelerate the process besides just maxing out credit hours?
7  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Problem with a recent sims3pack on: 2013 June 04, 13:08:46
Does it actually make a difference if we decrap it ourselves, or is that just considered a best practice in case it hasn't been done properly? I've been getting all my stuffs from torrents with pre-decrapped packages, and I don't think I've had any trouble so far.

It's so hard to choose! Thank you for letting me participate after I screwed up the entry, it was pretty discouraging after working so hard on the house.

10 Magnolia Lane
Price: $81,004 (wanded, I think - I couldn't tell if it worked)
Lot size: 20x20
3 bed/4 bath + nursery.

I had a vaguely Victorian vision for this house, and I like to play with large families, so it's furnished accordingly. I playtested this pretty extensively with a family of seven plus a cat. It plays really well, and I made sure the sims are able to use *all* of the objects (except the small pool in the basement, but that's easily fixed if you actually want to use it for more than decoration). The central greenhouse area actually has a floor so the sims won't get the "unfinished room" moodlet; I made it dirt colored and used moveObjects to place the plants.

Front and Side views:

There's also a tree house in back, and a couple apple trees.

First Floor:

Second Floor:

Basement:

I tried to make the children's and teens' rooms look as cluttered with random things as they are in real life. The adult bedroom is neater.

I went through and cropped/resized all of these in photobucket, but the changes only seemed to stick with one of them. Go figure.

10  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Plots / Re: Lot Challenge, May 2013, FOUNDATION on: 2013 June 01, 02:53:39
I hope I'm not too late! I just finished my house, will update in a few minutes.

ETA: I'm having problems getting it to actually post. I think I need to resize the pictures again or something, but I'm giving up and going to bed now. I will try again tomorrow.
11  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Plots / Re: Lot Challenge, May 2013, FOUNDATION on: 2013 May 10, 21:59:21
I'm inspired by this shape. Can we rotate it? Does any one side have to be the front?
12  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: .Sims3Pack: Installation failed on: 2013 May 10, 21:27:27
Did you try to decrap the files even though they are not store content?

I can't remember if I have had a non-store item say that. I am sorry I am not much help. I would try decrapping if you haven't.

I think I've solved the problem, sort of. I actually did decrap the world before installing it, and I did it again when I redownloaded it in case it had gotten corrupted or something. This time I tried again with the non-decrapped version, and that worked. The description of the world says the only EA content is a couple of paintings, so it's no huge loss, but I wonder why that happened?  I was just decrapping everything in case some of it contained store content. Are we not supposed to do that?

I'm going to try it with the rest of the files and see if the same thing happens.

[ETA: Yep. At least with the houses I decrapified, it seems to have solved the problem to install the non-decrapped versions. I haven't tried it on a few doors and plants I got from TSR because I decided I don't need them enough to redownload them anyway, although I wonder why I would have decrapped them in the first place.]
13  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / .Sims3Pack: Installation failed on: 2013 May 09, 22:12:11
So, I recently went on a downloading spree, and found I could not install about 5 sims3pack items through the launcher. It gives me this error message: "[filename].Sims3Pack: Installation failed. Please make sure your game has the latest software updates and try again."

My game is up to date. I installed patch 1.50 with the superpatcher before installing the sims3packs.

I've done a search here without any luck. The closest thing I found involved installing decrapped store content, but these items are not from the store, they were created by other players. All the other relevant posts seem to be flame wars. Rather one-sided ones. Tongue I was really excited about one of the new world downloads--it figures the sims3pack I wanted most would fail.

Is this a known problem? If it requires a work-around, what would the best method be for doing that?

14  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: The TS3 Store: post your questions, updates, and tech help here on: 2013 January 21, 18:46:04
Well, so long as it's not harmful I can just ignore it. Thanks.
15  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: GOOD worlds that incorporate ALL EPs. on: 2013 January 21, 03:14:57
I think it might be more than just using some extra content around town. Maybe some extra lots, or a different feel to the neighborhood? It doesn't say.
16  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: The TS3 Store: post your questions, updates, and tech help here on: 2013 January 21, 03:11:36
I think putting the latest content patch 2.1 in my overrides folder has somehow screwed something up, because now there are lots of blank thumbnails in the catalog (everything goes back to normal when the content patch is removed, I went through the whole troubleshooting dance to figure it out). The price shows, but there is no picture, and nothing happens when I click on it. Is it trying to fix content I don't have? Does it not like being decrapified? Did I do something wrong?

I can't remember all of the items that are missing, but one of them is a shower priced at $1,800.

Normally it wouldn't matter, but I have a slight suspicion that it might be related to another problem with a corrupted save (if only because it's the only other wonky thing I could find). Not sure if that's possible, but what should I do now?
17  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: GOOD worlds that incorporate ALL EPs. on: 2013 January 17, 20:05:53
FYI, Morikopo Island/Resort has been updated for Seasons. I haven't tried the Seasons version yet, but the Supernatural version is fantastic and I doubt it's much different. The same creator also made Howell Island, which is also for Seasons but with a spooky/supernatural theme.

I'm not clear on the difference between Morikopo Island and Morikopo Resort, other than the resort requiring Sunlit Tides and the Lucky Simoleon Casino.
18  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: broken install: empty, gray splash screen, blank menus, crashes loading new hood on: 2012 September 26, 02:20:34
Okay, it seems I borked the original install somehow, although I'm not sure exactly what I did. I tried uninstalling the base game (but not any of the EPs), reinstalled it, and patched with the super patch to get the TSW.exe files, etc. set up since there's a new structure to the game now. I also ran the patch downloader to check everything again just in case, but it seems I didn't need anything after originally patching the EPs and using the super-patch for the new base game install. Then I ran the game to get it to generate all the folders in the user documents, then reinstalled the framework, Awesomemod, and the NRaas noCD. That fixed the problem, although maybe my registry is a mess now because I left all the EPs in place?

Thank you all for your help!

Now to see if I can figure out how to reinstall all the store content again without making a total mess.  Tongue I know that's been covered everywhere, so hopefully I can manage it on my own. I do have one stupid question, though, since I can't remember the answer at all from however many years ago--is it safe to use the TS3 launcher to install the (decrapified) sims3packs if I don't allow it to connect to the internet? From my search on here it looks like it's probably okay, and maybe only the TS2 launcher is made of absolute evil, but it would be great if someone could confirm that for me.
19  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: broken install: empty, gray splash screen, blank menus, crashes loading new hood on: 2012 September 25, 19:57:20
Yes, other games run fine - I was playing Sleeping Dogs with no problems. I will try using the patch downloader to update the EPs and report back, since I thought the super-patch did that.

ETA: the patcher found updates for the first 3 EPs and patched them, but everything looks the same and the game still crashes when I try to load a new neighborhood.
20  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: broken install: empty, gray splash screen, blank menus, crashes loading new hood on: 2012 September 25, 19:46:01
In the options.ini file, did you mean the line for the display resolution?

I tried following the tutorial here (http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Getting_new_graphics_cards_recognized_by_the_game) to get the game to recognize my shiny new graphics card, which fixed the default display settings, but didn't solve the other problems.

Perhaps the superpatch installation before installing the EPs fucked something up? I would try (assuming no one else has any suggestions, because frankly I'm pulling shit out of my ass here) reinstalling all the EPs/SPs first, and then using the MTS Patch Downloader (which you NEED regardless) to let it patch up all the EPs to their latest version.

Maybe, I'm not sure? I couldn't get the EPs to install properly before I patched with the superpatch, because I kept getting weird errors (I think the versions weren't matching properly or something) when they tried to update the game. Maybe that's because of the first patch I applied, which came with the torrent for the base game? After installing the superpatch it all seemed to work fine because they weren't updating anything, so I installed all the EPs normally, then ran the patch again because I wasn't sure if I needed to install it before or after installing the EPs.

I've downloaded the NRaas nocd now, so hopefully that will help in the future. As for the patch downloader, I could never quite figure out how frequently we had to update the program itself? I seem to remember being unsure whether it was working before... However, I checked MTS, and it looks like they've updated it since Supernatural, so I've gone ahead and downloaded it again.
21  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / broken install: empty, gray splash screen, blank menus, crashes loading new hood on: 2012 September 25, 18:14:25
This weekend I built a shiny, shiny new computer, and after taking a break from the sims for a few years I thought I'd try installing TS3 again. I installed the base game, patched with the super-patch (to 1.38), then installed all of the expansions in order up through Supernatural (all Pirate Cat version, of course). I did not install Origin and blocked the game with my firewall. Everything seemed to go well, but when I loaded up the game, the splash screens seemed to be missing and most of the menus were borked. The game crashes when I try to create and load a new neighborhood.

Here is what I saw.

Empty splash screen:

Messed up "select a town" menu with blank button:

I believe this is the menu to rename the new town?

Game Options:

Another borked menu:

Graphics menu:

I think the graphics menu might be a clue, because it looks like the game is setting itself for all the minimum settings. However, I have a Radeon 7870, which is more than enough for TS3, and I just updated the drivers.

I'm not sure what exactly I did wrong, perhaps some sort of pirate failure? I initially thought the problem could have been the crack I was using, so I restored the original files, installed the framework (using the guide from MTS2, which seemed to be the most current), and installed Pescado's latest Awesomemod for his no-cd feature, but it didn't help. It's been a long time since I did anything with the sims, so maybe I forgot an important step.

I admit I'm hesitant to reinstall the entire game and all the EPs without knowing if that will even do any good. I have searched for similar problems without any luck, and I'm at a loss, so any help would be much appreciated.
22  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Twinbrook: Pudding Pied! on: 2010 November 13, 22:40:25
I seem to be getting a "missing object warning" upon loading the save for the first time AFTER decrapifying the saved game, which I thought would help prevent that, since I play with decrapified content. What I'm given to understand from reading the threads on decrapifying seems to indicate to me that this should not happen, and from your post it looks like this should not happen with this particular save. WHAT I DO RONG? Am I not understanding this? Any help would be much appreciated. Alternately, any idea which custom items might be missing, and whether this is important? Thanks.

24  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Frozen Sims on: 2010 November 09, 01:05:28
I think it is understandable in any language, at least to a point. It can be difficult to think of the right terms, and even when using multiple synonyms, you may not get the right thread you need sometimes, or your terms might be buried so deep it isn't clear whether or not the thread is relevant. At least this person made an attempt at searching, although it's funny that they missed the topic on the very first page.
25  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: CAW and Use of Seed Spawners on: 2010 November 06, 21:17:10
Perhaps it is related to the new lot placing tool? Could there be issues with making a new lot over an area with a seed spawner--perhaps deleting the spawner, or making it inexplicably impossible to place the lot?
