Ah - thanks Emma. No, I don't have a downtown attached - just the base & Campus.
Why would Maxis do that? You can go on regular dates anywhere, why would it be only in this situation...... Grrrrr. I really didn't want to attach a downtown or shopping dstrict - trying to keep the number of Maxis townies to a minimum.
Thanks for explaining this, though. At least i know why it's happeneing!

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Called for date but no neighborhood places to choose

This is really weird. My sim has had a couple of dream dates, so she got a call from a friend of the dream date. These people come with the green shading on them (like the furious state but with positive results)
In any event, this sims asks if my sim wants to go out on a date. If I choose Yes, it loads the taxi screen but there isn't anything to choose from - neither the Campus or the Base neighborhood are listed. Which means none of the commercial properties are listed, so she can't go on the date. All I can do is cancel, but that results in having the caller being "stood up"
I looked therough the logs & noticed that there was an Access_Violation. This happened 2 different times, once in C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpsp2res.dll & the other time in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Open For Business\TSBin\Sims2EP3.exe
So, I just stopped accepting the invitation, but do you know what is causing this?
Thanks!

One other thing to check is your ram. I had a ram stick go bad. It started out that the system would just turn itself off once every couple of weeks, then it got to be a few times a week. Then it became several times a day :/
I got new ram & since then I;ve never had a random shut down.

I'd like to thank everyone for helping with this. I took my sim to a community lot in the regular neighborhood rather than the campus neighborhood & it worked perfectly. She got the "go to class" icon but it didn't end the date. Yay!! Problem solved - thank you Jane

You should check out JMP's 'University Final Clock' -- it lets you speed up the balance of the semester when the sim fulfills all the grade requirements with a lot of time to spare. Makes Uni much more tolerable, since you're not waiting around for 'sim hours' for stuff to happen. You can check it out here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.net/smf/index.php?topic=134.0Thanks jsalemi , I have the Final Clock but I don't want to speed up the time. I need her to get 50 Dream Dates - I need every mminute I can get! It is just very frustrating to get the date up to Great - just one more interaction to Dream date & the stupid game automatically ends the date because it's her class time. Doesn't matter that she doesn;t need to go to class or that I don;t want her to go to class. It just automatically issues the end date command. Apparently not many people do dates at college. it's a great way to buikd friendships faster & if they get a dream date it totallt refreshes the sim, so you send them home to skill or phone friends or whatever - even go on another date.

The reason the date dies if you try to go to class is because Go to Class issues the command "leave group" as part of its sequence, which terminates the date. If you don't want this to happen, don't send your sims to class during dates. [/quote]
Thanks for explaining about the "leave group" thing.
I am not sending them to class during dates! The game is issuing the command that is cancelling the date. I'd love to be able to control this but - it appeard the game is pushing ths "go to glass" or "leave group" command ahead of everything else. In some cases I have received the "Had a great date - end of date' message before i get the "go to class" action. How am I supposed to stop that from happening? I am not choosing to send them to class - the game is automatically ending the date before I have a chance to do anything lick cancle the "go to class" icon.

You could also just take her on dates to community lots, where time isn't. :-)
I am takling her on dates to the community lots. It doesn't matter, the game still tracks the time & when it's her class time, the action happens automatically. I have no control over ending the date. Jane

Hi gynarchy,
The problem isn't that I can't cancel the "go to class" action, the problem is that as soon as the clock ticks over to the class start time the date is automatically ended. there isn't any option to continue the date even if you cancel "go to class"
I was really hoping there was a mod that stopped this from automatically happening, so you could continue the date if you wanted to or end it & go to class.
I never let the sims date until they have a full bar, so going to class is totally pointless as they have already fulfilled all of the requirements for the semester (to get an A+). I just spend the rest of the semester making friends, dating, earing money, etc.

Hi Does anyone know of a hack that stops the game from cancelling dates midway through them because of the sim's class time? My Pleasure sims is having a hard time getting her dream dates - she'll be at "great' & then the date says "It was a great date" because her "go to class" icon pops up. What I'm looking for is a mod that allows you to cancel the "go to class" so you can continue the date if you want to rather than have it automatically end the date. Thanks, Jane

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 10 children want & alien babies

Well I'm not too worried about the size of this family because it's the only family in my neighborhood & I didn't add a downtown or Bluewater so I don't have that many sims anyway.
I just think it's another case of Maxian logic. adopted kids count but alien children born to the family don't. In both cases she is not the mother, but one counts the other doesn't.
Well, it's just 2 more babies. Gah - I only plan on doing the 10 child want this one time. I have no desire to repeat it, but she already had had 8 kids so I wanted to get it for her. Jane

Bah - ok thanks. I thought (for some reason) that adopting counted but if it doesn't then I'll just have her drink some elixir & get preggers again :/
Personally, I think the alien twins should count because she is their step mother & will in effect be raising them, but .... whatever!
Thanks!

Actually I had that happen just the other day. I was playing a dorm with 1 playable sims & 7 dormies. About halfway through Junior year one of the dormies waved goodbye to everyone & left. The i got the message that she was moving out.
I have never had that happen before OFB. I don't have any bots or anything like that. She just decided to move out.
Very weird!

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / 10 children want & alien babies

Hi I have a female family sim who has had 4 sets of twins & she spun up the "Have 10 children want" so I locked it in & thought she could just adopt the last 2 because she's pretty close to being an elder. I set the husband to getting his gold floristry badge & she was being an instructor for one of the kids. Anyway, he buggered off when he got the gold badge & I didn't notice he was stargazing (it gets kind of hectic with babies, kids & teens!). In any event, he got abducted. So now I have another set of twins - this time alien twins. However, it didn't satisfy her 10 children want. Is this normal? If she adopts it gets satisfied why wouldn't it when the hubby has kids? I really don't relish the thought of 2 more kids in this family! Jane

The compression makes a huge difference - like about 10 to 1. I haven't notcied any difference in quality but that may depend on your video card. Make a back up copy & try it see how it works for you. Some of my files went from 2,000 down to 250 - which means faster loading. Having skins & hair compressed is almost essential because they are constantly displayed. The occassional formal isn't as necessary because most of the time the sims aren't in formal wear.
I also make sure that each of the textures has the 10 default textures so the game can choose which texture size to use at the various zoom levels. There isn't any point in the game using the 1024 x 1024 bitmap when you are zoomed way out. Having the different levels of bitmaps (the different sizes) allows the game to conserve memory at different zoom levels.
To add these extra levels, when you use the Build DTX option, change the number in the "MipMap Level" to 10 & SimPe will automatically create these for you.

Maxis is really sick. I totally agree with you Motoki! After months & months of spaghetti & cookies rumors & that finally dies down, now we have cheesecake. And to think I used to love cheesecake.

Thank you! I was wondering if anyone knows this or not. Does working the Lemonade stand as a child or teen give them sales or register training? I would think that it does but ....... I fully expect that it won't. If it doesn't this would be a terrific hack for someone to make. I don't mind making them do the actual stuff to get qualified but geez - my sims was ringing up sale after sale - all day & still no bronze badge. It was truly ridiculous. JM to the rescue! Thanks Jane

This happens because, even though the Mascot/Cheerleader/Streaker/Whatever NPC marries into the family the game still considers then as NPCs until such time as they expire (die).
So, every time you play a lot that is not their lot, there is a chance they will dress up in that ridiculous outfit & come traipsing by.
I do not believe there is an easy solution to this behaviour!
