I don't know if you're still modifying the gardening hack at all, but....it occurred to me that if sims with an interest in environment > = 500 were the only ones who increased their fun motive while gardening that this aspect of the hack would effect relatively few individuals. You might consider also including sims with an interest in health, and those with an interest in weather, since gardening is a healthy lifestyle choice and (usually) takes you outside to appreciate the weather up close and personal.

Has anyone attempted to use this mod with Seasons?

EDIT: Thanks for responding, Joe Smiley I'm rounding up mods in prep of installing all the EPs up to Seasons which is turning into a daunting task, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I hesitated resurrecting this thread, but failed to find any mention of compatabilty, or lack thereof in the Seasons compatabilty thread, or elsewhere, so...hopefully your response will prove helpful to others as well.

Thanks to all who've responded so far. It's truly helping make the decision process easier.

wykes - your observation re Pescado's mods may very well prove to be what tips the scales. It's something that hadn't occured to me and an excellent point.

Again, thanks everyone for taking a moment to weigh in, it's appreciated.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Always twins in any pregnant. Help!!! on: 2008 March 06, 21:57:14
I hate to doubt so much shouting, but if twins are DETERMINED AT CONCEPTION then why is it possible for Brandi Broke to have either a single baby or twins?  (Or so JM says in the Myths post.)  I was under the impression that baby number was determined when the sim pops a second-trimester belly.
...baby quantity is determined at conception, although hacks, cheats, and after OFB, the cheesecake thing, can influence it.

I had proof of this recently...

I'd a preggers sim give birth to twin girls. This is a family that already had too many girls and tended to make particularly poor ones at that. They had no boys, however, so, I did something I never had up until then, exited the game w/o saving, and replayed the birth, with similar results, only it was boy/girl this time. I decided that still wasn't good enough, exited w/o saving, Again. Replayed scenario, Again. Bingo! Hmmm...a singleton male?

Disclaimer: k, this is where I admit to using the Kitten Killer, as well as Two Jeff's quad mod set to "random"...obviously, I realized that the quad mod randomizes the number of babies 1-4, I just, for some reason, thought it was set to occur at conception as well.

As an aside? Not to be flippant or dismissive, but 8 births hardly translates to "always" and is well within the bounds of a normal distribution, though irritating I'd imagine.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Seeking a learned opinion... on: 2008 March 06, 21:20:36
I realize that there have probably been any number of posts relating to this topic, but I have been presented with so many differing answers, and it's all a little multi-faceted, so I'm left thoroughly stumped and confused...ergo why I'm here, dropping it in the lap of those I consider most likely to make the proper call. I apologize if you've heard this all before, but I wanted to get it right and avoid as many headaches as possible.

I've been playing the base game for several years now and am, finally, upgrading my PC and will be moving my game to my new HD. Afterward, I'll add all EPs up to Seasons, no stuff packs.

I've heard differing opinions, and a great many warnings, especially about the Pets patch, and others...what I need to know is whether or not I Should patch my game, and/or if there are certain patches I can, and should, skip alltogether (just so you know, but for a handful, I'll be using all of the Director's Cut, if that makes any difference).

If this was your new PC, what would you do?

Thank you for any insight you can offer.

Syber, I apologize for never getting back to you about my base game only test of this hack, but I rarely am able to play recently and it entirely slipped my mind...unfortunately, much the results of the actual test have slipped my mind as well, however, I DO recall that, although some of the interactions worked, others were hit and miss, and assuming I recall correctly, the gender preferance question was almost always, possibly always, ignored.

If I'm able to play any time soon I'll try to remember to retest and respost the results in a more timely fashion.

Ah, okay...this explains why I wasn't so very familiour with it as I run the base game only. I do now recall reading over this a while back and grumbling over my limitations, again Smiley Thanks again, vilia

I'm feeling particularly clueless atm...

I realize this thread is growing moss, but I too would like to see something in this vein created...so, to that end, I thought I'd give this topic a nudge.

Crossing my fingers that someone more awesome than myself has this on their "to do" list.

Anyhew, I think I'd be most interested to see if anyone who only has the basegame or Uni report back as to whether it works for them or not.

Ste

Syberspunk, I run the base game only.

Yes, I know, I'm a little late to this one, and all, parties what with the way pesky day to day living keeps barging in...Anyway, I didn't notice anyone else in the thread having mentioned running only the base game, So, I'll be certain to report back following the test run...this is assuming my game hasn't already FUBAR'd itself due to sheer neglect.

In other words, since this hack conflicts with Pescado's traditional marriage, syberspunk rolled the two together so people wouldn't have to choose between the two.

Ahha! The key I was missing...Thank you, HelloKit.
13  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Syberspunke Archives / A question... on: 2006 November 09, 14:00:40
Your description of this mod explained that there are included in each zip archive a "trad marriage" and a "default version". You instructed us to choose between the two as was "appropriate" for our EP(s)...For some bewildering reason this isn't computing Huh I did read through the entire post, but can't seem to wrap my brain around what tradtional marriage vs a default version has to do with an adults go steady mod Undecided

I'm certain I'm suffering a profoundly "duh" moment and will soon feel quite silly. Please explain?

I'm Very glad that I can add this amazing mod to my game now that there is a Uni/older version. Thank you for the enormous amount of thought that went into this, and to all of your innovative ideas. You add so much to our enjoyment of the game, and never fail to conduct yourself in a friendly and considerate manner through the process. You're a real class act, Syberspunk, and the Simming community is lucky to count you among its stars.

It's working again for me now.  Oh well, it wouldn't open for me for about 3 hours today, up till now.  Sorry to waste a thread Cheesy

No. You weren't imagining this. I encountered the same problem earlier, Inge.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Chandler Platz on: 2006 September 15, 11:08:18
Thank you, Moonluck.

My main concern is that he Not become, technically, related to any of his housemates, namely the children, as I've evil intent concerning his future adult relationship with a daughter of the household. I know. It's a particularly heartless thing to do to the poor girl...from all I've heard, Chandler doesn't improve much with age.

EDIT: Thank you Karen, Jordi...looks like I may now set my evil plan into motion.

I am relieved to learn Chandler turned out so well. He and the aforementioned daughter hit it off so completely across the board that I couldn't help but be tempted to make him a permanent fixture in her orbit despite his...hmmm, generous features? Personality, interests and even the nominally (k, likely fictionally) influentual zodiac alignment fell into near perfect place...the clincher? His very first words to her concerned her most favoured topic by far--rats...removing any remaining doubt that they are, indeed, soulmates Wink
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Chandler Platz on: 2006 September 15, 10:42:33
Is it 'normal' for townie children to have no family relationships? I don't pay all that much attention to townie children, or townies period, obviously, but of those that I can recall off the top of my head, most seemed to have parents and a (theoretical) home, at least.

Recently, I encountered Chandler Platz for the first time and noticed that he lacks a family tree. Is he a homeless orphan wandering the streets...suffering from amnesia...or simply a Maxian loose end?

My main question is This--were I to have him "move in" with a family versus teleporting him in via Inge's shrub, what would his status be so far as his relationship to the children of the family taking him in?

Thank you.

The NPC marriage is probably a result of data corruption

I wonder if it could possibly have had anything to do with my employing Merola's Mind Control Mirror to render two NPCs selectable while both paid an unusually extended visit during the time period this memory was most likely to have been recorded?

Quote
Sims may spontaneously acquire the invisible token of an event that occurs within proximity of them, essentially by osmosis.

Thank you for this clarification, Mr Pescado, Sir...or would that be Sire?

Quote
Unless you start with a clean neighborhood (i.e. having used the deleteallcharacters cheat), you get three of each of the service sims.

And thank you too, for filling in some blanks, Dr.

Toddlers are very limited in their interactions with others

I do realize that many ppl are thrilled to have as little to do with infants and toddlers as possible, but I happen to feel that Maxis miserably dropped the ball there. The more I play the game, the more I think what's truly missing, besides the obvious glaring lapses of basic common sense, was the opportunity to allow personality AND chance to play some part in an events outcome...especially, had Maxis been innovative enough to incorporate these random outcomes into the Sims developmental stages in a way that directly influenced individual personalities traits, interests, etc. down the road...oh, well.

I tried this with the logic blocks and the toy xylophone, but they don't seem to get the social boost from this.  Plus, you have to put the toy in the middle of the floor for the older sim to sit in front of it.

I did recently attempt the same and, also, noticed the awkwardness of initiating these interactions. Eventually, I elected to leave the blocks cluttering up the middle of a pathway where they were accessible, and true to life, but nonetheless not so pleasing to my pesky obsessive-compulsive streak. It was probably good therapy.

If you do this, be sure to get TJ's Toddler Toy Death fix

Coincidentally, I picked this up only the other day, but had to point and laugh at myself for DLing it. That OCD I just mentioned? It renders the odds of my loosening my micro managing, G.I Joe death grip long enough to weaken, let alone actually lose a Sim in this manner, to something approaching zilch.

Quote
My point is that there are very few ways that toddlers can interact with the outside world, but I suppose it could be possible for a memory to get transferred that way

I never used to pay very much attention. Up until this experience I've thought of Toddlers as little more than, if I'm fortunate, window dressing, but this experience may have changed all that.

the mom dropped the baby on the floor to cheer for her.  The baby had a thought bubble with the A+ icon in it, and I made the baby selectable to check his memories, and sure enough, he'd just gotten a memory of his sister getting an A+

Hah...this actually makes perfect sense, which convinces me it was purely coincidental.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The secret life of exterminators and toddlers? on: 2006 May 05, 11:51:03
Secondly, memories passed on through gossip are usually "invisible" memories.  These cannot be viewed from within the game, only by using the a memory editor such as the one in SimPE.  I assume Talismana was seeing these memories from inside the game.  Is that correct, Talismana?

Correct, rainbow.

cwykes--Not at all, I appreciate any additional clarity I can gain re the game. There's no question my working knowledge leaves plenty of room for improvement.

I do posses an (obviously) limited understanding of the basics relating to the, virus-like, memory system of the game, so, I did make a cursory check to see if anyone in these children's family, or immediate orbit, also shared the memory. I've not yet had an occasion to check every one of each child's friends, so, this could still, prove to be a source....only, now rainbow has pointed out this NPC's marriage was, essentially, impossible and I do understand her logic here so, perhaps, it's a moot point?

I'm still scratching my head over how a toddler, who can't yet converse with Anyone, learned a memory. Does it happen by osmosis? Does a Sim even need speak to another to gain a memory, or can it simply spill over into their brain via proximity? So, yes, some room for improvement here, and I will browse MATY's search, as you suggested.

Another thing that helped aid my confusion, was my thinking that this particular memory seemed to belong to a NPC who hadn't even been created and I'm beginning to strongly suspect that my understanding of how various NPC's come into being is completely flawed. I thought that some NPCs were 'spawned' as needed, and since I've never used an exterminator in my game, I logically, though mistakenly I'm now sure, believed this character couldn't, technically, exist TO possess memories.

Sheesh, I sure don't help clarify much. What I'm, abysmally, attempting to now ask is--Is there an initial 'seeding' of exterminators in every game? I did think this was the case with Grim, nannies and the social bunny. Don't ask me to explain Why I thought it any different when it came to exterminators, but there you have it.
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The secret life of exterminators and toddlers? on: 2006 May 05, 08:15:16
Interesting. What a convoluted, truly bizarre game this is.

So far, I see two commonalties--first, each of these occurrences involved children, in one way or another, and second, each occurred in Pleasantview...perhaps due to some glitch particular to the neighbourhood?

Rainbow, your mention of the Pleasant's remarriage caught my eye because, in this case also, it occurred very near the time the parents of these children, finally, married (Better late than never. Yes? Wink)

I'm now determined to peek at who the rest of my Sim kids are socializing with while my back's turned...and here I thought the strangest memories I'd encountered were those of Sims kissing themselves for the first time...hmmm, on second thought, those instances Still win by a nose.

Since we're discussing memories, I've just remembered something else I've been meaning to look into for some time now; it didn't seem important enough to warrant a thread of its own--when I move a family into a house, each family member receives TWO "moved in" memories. It's been this way, consistently, since day one, and long before I added my first mod...this can't be 'normal'...hmmm Undecided or Can it?
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / The secret life of exterminators and toddlers? on: 2006 May 05, 04:14:45
Can anyone offer an explaination (other than imminent BFBVFS) why three of the children in one of my families, one of them a toddler, possess a memory of "Robi Charvat" getting married when they've never met a Mr. Charvat? Huh

Robi, from all appearances, is a NPC exterminator, but then I wouldn't know, as none of my families have ever hired an exterminator...in fact, I've never seen an exterminator in my game...I've never seen a "Charvat" in my game, for that matter.
21  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Face Template Replacements (Work in Progress - Pictures) on: 2006 May 03, 20:45:56
I make no claim to any special expertise re the aesthetics of facial structure, and though lowly layperson, I thought it topical to point out that, Clearly, many of these templates Required drastic intervention. I bear nary a single degree of fondness for the Simian trolls which Maxis chose to infest our neighborhoods...so for me? The farther you can deviate from their abnormal norm, the better.

However, as with you earlier batches--to my eye, this group boasts a pleasing degree of variety, and succeeds at retaining any good inherent to each, while respecting the spirit of the originals...as far as common sense could allow, that is. Considering the origin of your enterprise? No small task.

Again, thank you for tackling it for the rest of us who, without the generosity and intervention of yourself, and others like you, would remain saddled with fewer choices, and the goon squad, ad nauseam.

Oh, excellent! Thanks for the heads up, syberspunk. I'll test this out later today and be certain to report back to you re how it turns out Smiley

...and, welp, if you feel a responsibility, and an inclination, to help keep the rest of us happier with our gameplay? Well then, who am I to attempt to sway you from your admirable purpose? Wink

UPDATED: Well.....hah, it isn't exactly "later today" but I've Finally gotten around to testing the base game version of this mod, and I'm pleased to report it works like a charm! Such a logical mod which renders it a tad more sensible, yes? Bit by bit, you, and modders like you, are remaking this game into what it ought to have been the first time 'round, and the less than awesome remain very much in your debt.

Thank you again for looking out for even the lowly base gamers among us Cool
23  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Face Template Replacements (Work in Progress - Pictures) on: 2006 April 19, 10:04:26
The pointy-ear face template is not used to spring townies.  It's the only one set up not to do that, so there's no need to have a separate round-ear template.

Ah, I see...it looks like your observation was accurate, Zeljka Smiley...
Good to know I needn't live in fear of the generation of any more pointy, Goopiesque Sims infiltrating the ranks of my neighbourhood. *shudder* It's a pity that it would be those templates which bear the curse of the Elven, as they also happen to be two of the more palatable, as CAS aesthetics go, at least. Not that this will soon matter since Nailati will, shortly, broaden our horizons.
24  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Face Template Replacements (Work in Progress - Pictures) on: 2006 April 18, 11:02:02
I, too, am keeping a sharp eye on this thread. Not so very long ago I very nearly DL'd one of the other CAS face replacements springing up just now and I'm glad I hesitated. These are very, very promising so please Do take your time as you're, obviously, doing something Right.

Something to consider, perhaps--I, like so many, enjoy playing my Sims as close to 'reality' as possible, and so, have had very little use for the 'Elven' face templates. This really is a shame, and a waste, as the two faces that are rounded out with the pointy, Elven ears are interesting. I really like them--but, I really don't want Spock ears popping up all over my neighbourhoods. Undecided

I can't be the only one who feels this way. So, I was wondering, and please keep in mind that this request comes from one with No concept what degree of effort this might entail, so, simply ignore me if my suggestion is outlandish...but, would it be possible to upload two versions of the face templates? One, with the original Elven ears, for those who enjoy using them, and Another set with 'normal' ears for those of us who prefer our games a tad more true to life? I figured that it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thank You for working so hard on this project!

I realize that I am way, way late to this party but thought to leave some feedback re this mod...I run the base game only because, like you, Syberspunk, I play Very slowly (hmmm...some might say compulsively) and being relatively new to the game, I wanted to learn the base inside and out before I added any of the EPs.

I experienced the same issues as cwykes--the dance solo's dropping out of queue, but unlike cwykes, I'd be thrilled if, and when, you discover the time or inclination, this might be corrected for those of us who do run the base game. I'm not pushing for it as I realize you've much more on your plate, I only wanted to let you know that there Is some interest in this hack for use with the base game, and I doubt I'm the only one.

In any case, I also wanted to thank you for all the work you've generously shared with the less awesome among us, as well as for the effort you expend to support it.
