TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Pets seems to think it uninstalled itself?

...when I loaded the game, it said that Pets was uninstalled, and that all pets would be deleted.
This happened to me once with OFB. It turned out that my .exe file had been deleted. Make sure that you still have Sims2EP4.exe installed in the following folder: Program Files/EA Games/The Sims 2 Pets/TSBin If it's missing, you can just copy it off the installation disc.

Wow, that is waaaay too advanced for my skill level. But thanks for the instructions anyway. *backs away slowly before she breaks anythingIt's a shame, really, because those hair files are over 5 MB each. Oh well.

Hi Amber! Tonight I started using your advice to shrink some of my hair files-- I figure if they're small, then I can still afford to keep all 8 kazillion of them. So this one group of Peggy hairs turned out to be especially huge, and when I opened up the first of the files in SimPE, I saw that Peggy included not one, not two, but TEN copies of the same texture image in this one file. They are all the exact same image, but they have different sizes, as you can see in the screenshot below. So, my question is, how many of these images do I really need to keep? Would one suffice? And which one should I choose? (Okay, that was 3 questions.)

Has anyone else tried the "Slick Curled Hair for Boys" in the game? It worked fine for me in Body Shop, but when I tried it in game tonight it reverted to a base game hair. I have all EPs and all stuff packs except K&B and M&G. ETA: Okay, I figured out what the issue was. This hair is only available for the Everyday, Athletic, and Outerwear categories. Why Maxis chose only those three categories is a mystery to me. I'll fiddle around with it in SimPE and see if I can fix it.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Make friends with 5 service NPCs. Which ones count?

The list is not really accurate. Social workers count as service NPC and they are social. The only thing is you can't ask them for a date using the phone but when they are off duty you can interact with them and even marry them, unlike the repo men or the taxi drivers.
Actually, you can interact with the repo men, with some workarounds-- one of my sims had the good-looking Repo Man's babies! I was pretty clueless at the time and didn't know that this was a VBT, but at least I didn't let her marry him. I could tell even then that he was buggy.

BV also made it possible to age up your townies when one of your playables has a birthday. As far as I know, this feature was not carried forward to later EPs.
FT allows you to age up three townies per Sim, but never had a chance to figure out how to do it. Probably helps to have non-adult townie friends at the birthday party, which I never did. Oh, you are right. That feature did come with FT. My bad. You don't have to have a birthday party to age up townies. A window will pop up as your sim is age-transitioning, asking who is growing up along with your sim. All the townies who are in the same age group as your sim, and who your sim has actually met, should be listed in the pop-up. (Though I have also seen YAs in the list when adults age-transition, but I figured they were close enough in age to qualify as the same age group. Meh.)

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Why the hell NL keeps uninstalling UNI?

The thing is that the University folder still exsists and it's fine and whole.
Are you sure that it's completely whole? Make sure you have a file called Sims2EP1.exe in your Program Files/EA GAMES/The Sims 2 University/TSBin folder. Sometimes an EP's executable file will mysteriously disappear, which results in an error message saying that the EP is not installed. If the executable is missing, you should be able to copy and paste it off of your disc. No uninstalling/reinstalling required!

Hi Maria,
I had something really similar happen to me last year. Everything in my Downloads folder that started with the letters S through Z disappeared. When I tried to replace them, the new files disappeared, too! It's such a weird problem and I totally understand your frustration. Anyway, this is what I did to work around it.
When I made all of the hidden files visible (using advice similar to Simsample's), it turned out there were some weird corrupted quasi-files hiding in my folder. I deleted those using a tool called Unlocker (you can download it for free). Then I created a new Downloads folder and cut and pasted all of my good files into the new folder. I deleted the old Downloads folder with Unlocker, too. Afterwards, I had to redownload everything with a filename starting with S or higher, but almost everything else was okay!
Hope this helps, and good luck!

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Hobby Lot Crashing Game

on: 2008 April 30, 01:35:05

Last night and tonight, I tried to send one of my sims to the tinkering hobby lot (Will's Garage) for the first time since Free Time came out. Both times, my game crashed on the loading screen for Will's Garage.
I only have a few Awesome hacks, plus twojeffs' FT aspiration fix.
Help?

Thanks for the heads up. I trotted over there and got it myself! Can any one provide the link for the painting mentioned in this? I went over there and looked my self and found nothing. Havelock posted the painting along with several other items from Pet Stories in this thread.

I think this is the right time for you guys to disclose which secondary aspirations your chose for your permaplat asp reward failing sims My teen sim that couldn't use the thinking cap (reported here) is a knowledge sim with the secondary aspiration of pleasure. He is not actually permaplat; but every time he gets into the gold or platinum mood the aspiration rewards still backfire on him.

Skillbuilding with the Thinking Cap on is becoming exceedingly dangerous. One of my sim-teens with a LTW of maxing out 7 skills just lost one point, EACH time when she wore it. Even with totally maxed out Aspiration This happened to me, too-- twice on the same teen sim. The first time he was in gold aspiration; the second time he was platinum. I'm afraid to let any of my other sims use a Thinking Cap now! Does anyone know if Noodlesoothers are safe? Also, has anyone else had trouble with the Fingerprint Scanner career reward? I directed one of my sims to use it, and he just stood there holding it (not gaining any skill) until I forced an error and reset him.

I have found a bork that... well, it's damn sure borken to me! The Aspir house has a Genie. It is rather boring. However, I used it to bring the granddad's wife back from the dead. ALL SHE HAS are Mystery Sim memories! FT Director's Cut was in, so I don't even know if they're still married or whatever normally. I'll have to check later, as I'm just on my lunch break. Damn. The stupid story even pointed you to the lamp and appeared to suggest resurrection for her, but noooo. Broken ahoy. Heh, that was the first house I played. When I resurrected her, she still showed her family relations (kid, grandkid) but she acted like she didn't even know her husband (not married or anything). So I had to start from scratch with their relationship. Vanilla game myself. I resurrected gramps wife. He knows that's his wife, She knows that that is her hubby. Her son is her son and her grandchild is her grandchild. She aparently does not like her daughter in-law as she does not acknowledge her in the least. Is it unusual for In-laws to not be seen as family? It's been so long since I paid attention. I could have sworn that they were family once they were married in. I just used the genie to resurrect the old lady, too, and she came back as a zombie! WTF? Did I do something wrong, or is this one of those random backfires? Oh, and she does recognize her husband, son, and granddaughter as family in my game.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Furious behaviour on non-furious sims?

I have several sims in my neighbourhood that keep doing that weird furious stance (clenched fists, furious expression)...
Do these sims happen to be low in nice points? Mean sims will do this behavior whether they're furious or not.
