TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Gypsy matchmaker broken (more than usual)

Downloads aside, what folders do I have to maintain if I want my neighborhoods to remain the same? Neighborhoods, Storytelling... and what else?
P.S. Have just tried suggestion and Leod McGreggor can now get a gypsy to dump a functional date on him, so it seems to have done the trick.

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Gypsy matchmaker broken (more than usual)

My sim wants 50 first dates. He had a few as a teen from the matchmaker that went as usual. He moved to college, got one or two more from the matchmaker, and then she stopped working. He asks for a blind date, she goes through the summoning animation, and then there is an odd 4-5 second delay. The date finally drops, and the gypsy attempts to introduce them, but the date has usually wandered or jump-glitched away to ring the front doorbell. The gypsy has to yell to get them to come over. Once they are introduced, they know each other, but the date does not start. As in, the date interface never comes up, and the summoned sim still has the "Ask on Date" option available.
Tested with the sim's sister, and the same thing now happens for her when she asks for a date, so the sim isn't glitched. Tested with another sim in the uni neighborhood and the same thing happens, so it isn't the lot. Tested in the main hood (Veronaville), so it isn't the Uni hood. Tested in Riverblossom Hills, behavior persists. Testingcheats did not show an error message in any of these cases. Forcing an error on the gypsy apparently did nothing.
All of the above tests were done with entire Downloads folder removed, problem is therefore not tight pants.
Any suggestions? Please don't say TwoJeffs' crystal ball, I am aware of it and it's nice but I am one of the 3 people who actually like the fail old hag and I want her to work properly.
EP setup: uni, NL, OFB, Seasons, 2 stuff packs

Which leads to my just wondered...if I say goodbye to everyone and all guests leave, will the party lose its "not bad/good time/rr" status slowly or will that remain static?
The one and only time I did this (at a wedding party), the guests all left and the party score immediately plummeted to Disaster. My sims went around sobbing for days and got no honeymoon limo. I don't recommend it.

Yeah, you gotta be careful about that, because to the casual observer it seems like Vidcund and Pascal Curious could be hooked up with the two alien chicks... but they're actually their half-sisters, which isn't properly reflected in the relationship panel. Bleh. Of course, if you don't care about pixel incest, fire away!
Personally, I think the cow mascot is the perfect mate for Vidcund and would definitely have sent them on the date.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: bringing money home from uni

My YAs appear to leave their (private) dorms and return home with their proportionate share of the household income at the time they left campus, plus the standard $20K. I.e. Abigayle Montrose returned to her hood with $36,000 in her bank account, while Cody Swan had $27,500. While both were on the dean's list, Abigayle had more roomies than Cody.
When they graduated, was anyone left behind in the dorm or was it emptied out? My kid had 5 roommates, 2 of whom have graduated and only got the standard $20k when they went back to Strangetown. So I am wondering now if you'll only take the surplus money home if you're the last one to graduate and you leave the lot empty behind you. And I have to leave a placeholder there for various reasons after all the kids graduate. I guess I'm just going to take the money home in inventory statues to be safe, but I'm still curious as to how the game calculates this number.

I have a sim who started a business in college and took all the cash perks, so now his Greek house treasury is $90k or so. However, he only has memories of earning $25k so far. I am taking this to mean that the cash perks don't count as "earned" money, which is stupid, but oh well. My question is, how does the game decide how much money a uni student takes back to the base neighborhood? I thought if he made more than $20k in college he'd go home with the actual amount he earned. But is that based on his memories or on the money in the treasury at the time of graduation? I want to know if I need to send his money home with him in the form of expensive statues in his inventory, or what. He earned it fairly and I don't want him to leave it behind at La Fiesta.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / is it safe to upload owned community lot businesses?
|
on: 2007 October 25, 00:13:16
|
A few people have requested I upload my family business to the exchange but it's still owned by my legacy family and I have no desire to sell it and then struggle to get it back up to Level 10 again. Before I upload it I just want to make sure there is no problem with random files and crap tagging along with an owned business, like it does with an occupied residential lot. I don't want to break anyone's neighborhood.

You could also try using the Lot Debugger to clear trash and gossip from memories. It can't hurt to try. Already did this only about 2 weeks ago... before I even realized there was a problem. I guess my only option is to try resetting the kids to Grow Up (although that is already their aspiration) in debug mode and see if that clears the LTW... just so I don't have to look at it all the time... and hope for the best. Oh, I think I'll cry. But it's a much smaller program than SimPE (also very useful) and it might be worth asking if there's a possibility of it being made Mac-friendly...... Sometimes I think "threatening mail-bombings" would be a more efficient way of getting anything sims-related done for macs, instead of "asking."

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / my toddlers have LTWs, am I doomed?
|
on: 2007 September 14, 08:56:23

Just what it says... I just noticed tonight that my last three kids have suddenly developed LTWs. Two toddlers want to be criminal masterminds, quite enterprising of them really. I am aware that toddlers with LTWs is a bad sign, but I have no idea how this could have happened. The neighborhood isn't particularly overpopulated (600ish char files) and I have never moved occupied lots, used DAC, or any of the other things that supposedly cause neighborhood explosion. I'm not having any other major glitches at the moment, so should I keep playing this hood with fingers crossed, give up now and re-install, or what? Is there anything I can do to fix this or is it too late? It's a legacy lot this is happening on, and scrapping it is not an option. If I reinstall I'd have to recreate all the important sims in the neighborhood, blah blah, which would be a huge undertaking. Also, I play on a Mac, so any fixes with SimPE won't work for me.

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Influence meter gone nuts
|

EA decided to store the number of influence points you have as a 16-bit integer. Unfortunately, this means that if you get over 32767 (?) influence points in one shot, the number loops back around and becomes negative. If you can figure out a way of removing the perk, then do that, otherwise just don't fulfil any more LTWs with this sim.
I see, so it's BECAUSE he has the x5 influence perk, not in spite of it? What a pain in the ass. Still, comforting to know it's not an explosion waiting to happen. And believe me, he's hit enough LTWs for ten lifetimes and he ain't getting any more.

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Influence meter gone nuts

One of my sims hit his (second or third) LTW and got the green +25,000 asp flash over his head... and then a RED -15,763 influence or something like that. So he gained aspiration and yet his entire influence meter was drained, and by a number that seems like a garbage value, since it ended in an odd number. It was obviously a glitch so I used the sim modder to fill his influence meter again. Then it happened again. He made 30 friends, got the green +30,000 asp, and then the red -15,763 influence and his meter was drained. The sim in question is permaplat and has the business perk that gives you x5 influence points, so WTF? I know to most people influence is useless but this sim uses it a lot to keep his businesses clean. I can always refill his meter manually but I'm worried this is a sign of some other problem. I don't have an error log since it's not a glitch I think I can reproduce on command. I have 5 Awesome hacks and that's it.

Well my servo has no problem getting to a community lot if he's the one driving the car, but he never gets a dialog box when someone else drives. Because I do sometimes have the problem with the action falling out of the sims' queues, I always make sure to get them all out there standing right next to the damn driveway with nothing in their way and that usually works well. But not for servo. I guess in the future I'll just have to make him be the driver. I wonder if this is related to the autonomous Do Chores action that seems to cause so many problems with always stomping everything else. It's been suggested to me that Do Chores is also the reason my servos glitch the mailbox when they try to get the mail. Servo just has issues.
