This tutorial explains an amazingly fast and easy way to decorate lots with career rewards and unlockable items such as the witch cauldron, and upload them without need of moving out or killing the sims living inside. I deleted that set after spending a long time trying to figure out what was wrong with my game. I can't believe that after three months and several claims of its broken state, the creator hasn't fixed it yet. It's a pay item too!

Someone uploaded the set to Garden of Shadows, so it's directly from TSR.

I had the same problem, but I found the problem file after following the 50/50 method.
Do you have Anoeskab's (from TSR) "Maxis More Functional: Free Time" set?  The desk file conflicts with the Freetime desk and crashed my game everytime I tried to enter a lot with the desk or the catalog page.
