1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 June 13, 23:44:48
I finally broke down and decided to try it.  I'm not sure how well it will work since my CPU speed is only 1.8GHz (with XP, and all other requirements are met).

Just wanted to put it out there for anyone who might be wondering the same thing:

Meeting or beating all of the other system requirements seems to make up for the slightly lower than recommended CPU speed.  The game doesn't run incredibly fast (I do get a lot of lag sometimes, especially moving from close-up to far-out views), but I haven't had any crashing issues and the graphics are set to medium/high.
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 June 13, 00:09:54
I've tried copying the Bin folder to the desktop, adding the cracked files to it, and then adding it back to the Game folder, but still I get the message that it's read-only.  Is that what you mean?  Or perhaps I am missing something?

This may sound horribly obvious, but you are adding the cracked files to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 etc., right?  Not the drive you have mounted with the image?

I am a fucking idiot.

Thank you.

Just following the instructions that came with the crack: "copy TS3.exe and TSLHost.dll from crack dir to install folder\Game\Bin (overwrite-replace)".  Anyway, I did try just adding the new files to the appropriate folder, and still no go-- I simply can't change anything about it.  I suspect it has something to do with daemon having mounted the ISO to a new drive (I think the entire drive is read-only), but I've only done this once before so I'm a bit lost now that the basic instruction have failed me.

I had the same problem, and I had to copy the folders to my desktop, then copy those to the program file....

I finally broke down and decided to try it.  I'm not sure how well it will work since my CPU speed is only 1.8GHz (with XP, and all other requirements are met).  Anyway, I got it all installed with daemon into its own virtual drive and I'm at the point of overwriting the TSLHost.dll and TS3.exe in the \Game\Bin folder.  Problem: it says it is "read only".  I tried unchecking "read only" under general properties on the Bin and Game folders but that didn't do a damn thing.  Have I done something wrong?  Is there a way to get the files overwritable?  Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Me, I don't overwrite the exe.  I rename it and leave it there (in case I ever need it), and just copy in the new exe.  The dll, I've never messed with -- maybe that's something one only does when using daemon? -- but I can't imagine why you would need to overwrite instead of just delete/rename/move the old one and insert the new one.

It sort of sounds like a CC problem, but on the off chance it isn't: how hot does your machine typically get?  I sometimes have crashing problems on very hot days due to overheating issues.
7  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: FFS "Batbox" Lot Debugger v2.0: NUCLEAR WAR EDITION on: 2009 April 28, 17:17:08
The box fits nicely in closets.  I generally stuff the debugger and clothing tool in a closet or behind the stairs if the lot doesn't have a foundation or roof that they can be hidden under (or in a apartments where objects can't be placed in the common areas).

Thanks to a Pet Sitter I had staying with my cats, I came back from the hospital to discover she had been playing my Sims game on my pc and sent 4 years of playing my hoods down the drain by not only putting Securom back on my pc, she uninstalled/reinstalled all the games.

That is grounds for a cowplanting.

Request for clarification:  I thought it's just the base-game pre-deads that aren't supposed to be rezzed?  I remember reading somewhere that later EP pre-deads were OK to rez.  Is that right?

My father was slaughtered by a six-fingered man.  I was eleven years old. And when I was strong enough, I dedicated my life to the study of fencing. So the next time we meet, I will not fail.

I hope there is a finger # slider.

I have only Maxis skins.  You might not ever see it if you are efficient at taking care of toddlers.  I tend to just leave them in their cage while adults are busy, but if they wake up from a nap and are cranky they start screaming like little banshees, and that's when Tooth In Chin disease becomes evident.

Ugh, I HATE the toddler Tooth In Chin disease.  It ruins so many otherwise cute pictures.

I found ALOT of these at BFTAF.  Some of them might not strictly count as anatomy glitches, but they are kinda funny.

There are about a bazillion more, but I am too lazy to try to sift through them all right now.

Here's my dilemna: When I packaged the file instead of showing as a lot in clean installer it shows up like a sim would. Matter of fact I believe it says black dress. It may have something to do with the store items I have, not certain really. Before I started I removed my Download folder and all hacks so I am certain thats not the problem. Perhaps any of you have an idea?

Well, from the picture, it does look like Clean Installer is recognizing it as a lot.  Don't know why it insists on taking its LBD with it, though.  Perhaps just clean that stuff out of the package, then re-open it w/ Clean Installer to make sure there aren't any more mysterious tagalongs?  It's a bit more work but at least you could make sure there wouldn't be random CC packaged with the lot.

Same here, Gastfyr, except that it wasn't a friend bringing along another friend, it was a playbable brining one home from work.  She just sat down to play chess and would not leave until I deleted the chess table out from under her.  That was back when I first installed FT, though, and I think maybe a patch or hack fix stopped that nonsense.
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: you should meet my therapist on: 2008 November 19, 20:50:28
According to the Prima Guide (so take this with a grain of salt):

Quote
Three hours after the introduction (or three hours after your sim returns home from the Community lot), a new unknown townie sim calls to introduce him- or herself.  Initial relationship will be higher than usual.

I'm pretty sure "yes" in this case means, "yes, please introduce me to this new sim" rather than "yes, I do mind, so go away" which would be more grammatically correct.  Sometimes I wish English had a negative yes/positive no word like some other languages, but even if we did EA would probably screw that up too.

Edit:
Actually, I thought about it a bit more, and it is technically correct in most cases to answer both positive and negative versions of a yes/no question in the same way.  So "does Pescado like Emma?" and "doesn't Pescado like Emma?" would have the same yes/no answer.  I don't know if this is the case with a "do you mind if ___ ?" type question, though.  Anyone of you more grammar-oriented people know which is the better answer in this case?  I hope this isn't too off-topic.

This is partly amusing and partly worrying:

So, besides the potential for LOLs, what would happen if I clicked "yes"?  I didn't, but is this so-called normal game behaviour, or am I looking at losing the neighborhood already?
18  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: No Aspiration Sim! Side effect of aging 6's up with playable? (Unanswered) on: 2008 November 19, 04:26:19
I've had this happen before, too.  Easiest thing you can do is use the Sim Modder or Insim or some other mod to fix them up.
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lost all my base game neighborhoods on: 2008 November 14, 05:36:03
Usually the codes can be found in your registry.  Hit Start>Run>"regedit">Electronic Arts>EA Games>The Sims 2>ergc and you should find it.  That is, if you're running Windows.  But like Pes said, you shouldn't really need the registration code just to get your neighborhoods back.
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Jobs. Or rather, not. (Now with added non-puddles.) on: 2008 November 02, 16:21:19
Yes, that's what it was.  I think it was after the Pets EP.  Or maybe Seasons?  Some people left the old version of Insim in when they installed the new EP, so all of the sudden the pets were peeing microwaves.  But I don't know if that is what is causing Count Four's problem.
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Second AL patch is out. on: 2008 October 25, 21:29:29
I installed it about 5 minutes ago (I'm infected with Securom already anyway).  No problems so far, but, you know, I've only been playing for 5 minutes.  Anyway, it didn't cause a reset.  The 2 lots that I've visited so far were exactly as I left them.  I seem to remember that patches caused a game reset... is that just my imagination?  Did it not install properly, or can anyone else with the patch confirm this?
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about adoption, dominance and graveyard ownage. on: 2008 October 24, 16:38:58
I thought that it was best to have owned graveyards if you didn't want the ghosts to all reset to hunger-type ghosts upon being moved to the unowned community lot.  But putting them on an owned lot would, of course, require moving them via inventory.  So the ghost type change thing is annoying, but is it actually more dangerous for the game to move graves around in inventories?  I thing I remember reading something about this not too long ago.  I'll see if I can find that discussion.

EDIT:
Found it, buried in this thread.
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hundreds of character files on: 2008 September 25, 15:33:57
This is not unusual, though it is a bit annoying.  I have a brand-new custom 'hood with only 14 CAS or born-in-game sims, but a total of 690 character files, most of which were created after installing AL.  Many of the clique townies generated by AL are not based on actual templates as far as I can tell, because I have mods that allow townies to randomly generate with facial hair, glasses, and alien skin/eyes and about 1/2 to 2/3 of the new townies are generated with one or more of the above.  This new neighborhood has only a base, one downtown, one business district, and one university.  I finally got tired of the game adding 5-20 character files every time I opened the 'hood so I installed notownieregen.

It is definitely a New Year's party thing.
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apartment Life: Obligatory Hate/Love Topic on: 2008 September 01, 17:24:02
So... has anyone tried building an apartment lot with cars already in place before moving any sims in?  So, say you planned to move in 2 families; then you should be able to place 2 driveways and 2 cars before moving those families in.  I don't know how well you'd be able to claim those cars for one particular sim though, or even if you'd be able to use them properly.  Anyone?  I don't have AL so I can't check it out yet.
