1  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Comm lot borkage and a question... on: 2009 January 08, 19:46:00
Hmm, removing the download folder did in fact fix the problem, but due to my unwillingness to do a binary search through 4400 files (most uncategorized) it looks like my sims are going to just have to hoof it whenever they want to go anywhere.

And no, not dead, just MIA for a while due to losing internet access for most of last year because of this wonderful economy... YAY.

I'll eventually get everything sorted out in my download folder when I inevitably reinstall the game as I'm prone to do from time to time, until then, the little buggers can use the exercise.  I mostly only use the cars for adult purposes anyway, and the only time cabs are absolutely necessary is leaving college, and since I rarely actually send any of my sims to college in the first place, it's negligible.

In any case, thanks for helping me at least figure out what the problem was to start with.  Baaaa

Also, any information as to my previous witch question?  Not essential, but would still like to know.   Grin
2  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Comm lot borkage and a question... on: 2009 January 08, 18:14:19
I've been having a problem lately with traveling to comm lots, if I have my sims drive themselves or take a cab, when I try to leave the lot, the screen gets that red outline around it with the pause symbol in the upper left corner and I lose all control, with no option other than to quit to neighborhood and lose all progress.  (sorry for the run-on sentence)  However, if I have them walk to lot, there seems to be no trouble at all.  This workaround seems to do the trick except in cases where I have them go on a date and "ask back to my place", which as far as I can tell requires a cab and causes the problem.  I've checked all my hacks and none are in conflict with each other, and it doesn't throw an error log when in debug mode either, so I thought I'd ask here if anyone else has/had this problem.

Now my separate question:  Can sims only learn to be a witch/warlock from the npcs, or is it possible to learn witchery from player witches?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, and thanks ahead of time.

3  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Only Six Sims on the Left Side of the Screen on: 2007 August 07, 04:23:12
Screen display resolution is at 1024x768, if that's what you're talking about.

Yep, that resolution + windowed mode will shorten your sim list and/or move a couple of em over to the "pets" line.  If you go back to fullscreen, it should line all your sims up where they should be.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about 5 top businesses LTW... on: 2007 August 05, 05:06:25
Cool, that makes it even easier than I was hoping it would be.  Information noted and appreciated.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Question about 5 top businesses LTW... on: 2007 August 04, 16:57:15
Is this cumulative or simultaneous?  Meaning, can I have 5 businessess in a row reach the top in order for it to trigger, or do I have to own all 5 at the same time?

6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does this exist? (darkness mod/hack) on: 2007 July 23, 05:32:09

IANAM, but it might be possible to hack the daytime brightness, temperature, and/or vampire-friendliness to have the daytime be effective nighttime.  OTOH, as anti-daylight as Pescado is, I'd expect he'd have tried such a thing before.  Its non-existence might well speak to its current impossibility.

Aside from not knowing what IANAM stands for, that makes sense, and you're probably right.  Cheesy
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Does this exist? (darkness mod/hack) on: 2007 July 23, 04:29:30
I was wondering about this earlier today, and does anyone know of the existence of a 24 hour darkness mod or hack?  I know it would vampires more than a little cheaty (which is kind of the point) and I don't think it would be that hard to code in, then again, I'm not a code wizard either.  I was just thinking along the lines of a 12 hour clock, where at 6 am, the appropriate "dawn" lighting would start, and then at 7 am, it would be dark again.  Or possibly something involving the day/night button in build mode.

But as I've said before, I'm not a code wizard, so I'm unsure as to the ease and/or simplicity of such coding.

The War Room is a fun place to check, especially if you think you know everything.

Fixed for ya Zaza...

9  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Shopping for a video card. on: 2007 July 13, 20:52:46
I can't say much along the lines of Vista just yet since I haven't taken that plunge, but I've been running a radeon x1600 pro 512mb pci-e card for almost a year now, and I keep all settings jacked up as high as they'll go and have zero problems in sims2.  (I'll add that I only keep shadows at the half mark to cut down on lag on densely populated comm lots)  But it seems to do the trick quite nicely.  I'm sure that there's better cards out there for Vista, but since I haven't gotten that monstrosity yet, I wouldn't know.  I think I paid around 130$ for this card last year when I got it, so it should be considerably cheaper by now.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Influence to... grab cake? on: 2007 July 13, 03:19:51
I was thinking about this the other day, and how much I'd like to be able to direct a townie/npc/etc. to grab the cake from the cowplant every now and then.  I've searched several sites and can't find anything like it though.

Was wondering how much of a pain in the ass it would be to code that in, or if somebody already has something similar, I'd greatly appreciate a link.

At first glance, it looks like it could possibly be a shader problem.  I'll be the first one to admit that I don't know all the intricacies of TS2 code, but I've had that happen in other games.  How "new" is her new pc?  There's a good chance the problem could be solved with either a catalyst (ATI/Radeon) update or there's a patch from AMD for dualcore cpu's that stabilize them for games/programs that were written before the advent of dual cores.  Will edit with the link to the AMD patch, I just had to DL it a few months ago after reformatting my HD.

That was quicker than I expected, it's the "dual core optimizer" patch, first listing on this page:

13  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: 2 small, albeit annoying problems... advice anyone? on: 2007 June 30, 17:17:18
Are you using inteen?

I was for a while, took it out this morning while trying to figure out what's causing this, and it's still doing it without inteen in there.

*shrug*
14  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / 2 small, albeit annoying problems... advice anyone? on: 2007 June 30, 15:36:32
(Unimportant preface:  I recently scrapped about 2 yrs worth of play time and reinstalled everything from scratch due to various things that I didn't know were wrong when I did them, the last straw being when the lots on one whole side of a street just vanished, so this install is only about 1.5-2 months old)

1)  No teen anywhere in any of my neighborhoods can go to university by using the phone, they can call for scholarship stuff, but no option about "go to college".  I can however, send them off to Uni from the neighborhood screen, so this one isn't even that big of a deal, just irritating.

2)  One teen female that I have (a downloaded Jessica Alba sim that I aged back to teen in CAS) keeps rolling up wants to talk to herself/play with herself/{insert action here} with herself.  I can't recall if this was happening before I installed H&Mgarbage (actual disk, no arrrrr on this one) but if it was, I didn't notice it.

I'm not using any phone-type hacks that would interfere with the Uni fiasco, so I'm puzzled on that one, but my main concern is whether that sim constantly wanting to talk/interact with herself is a possible bad thing?

baaaaaa in advance...

15  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Anti-Date Flowers on: 2007 June 21, 19:15:23

Some of us have had a problem with Sims getting stuck in an endless loop when delivering flowers.

I suppose I wouldn't mind a problem with someone getting stuck in a loop while delivering dance-spheres or Tang Dynasty Vases, that might actually be beneficial for a change...

16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons career reward question on: 2007 May 01, 22:19:36
I did notice that if you "view" the adventurer career reward, it seems to make their fun level go up considerably, all in one jump, could just be me though, but I'm fairly certain I'm right.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, my game asploded! on: 2007 April 20, 20:17:25
If you registered your software, Maxis will send you a new CD for cheap.

Yes, they will, actually, which rather surprised me when I lost my Uni discs, luckily, I had registered it as soon as I installed it, so the code was retrievable.  For people that got lazy and started using EALink however (such as myself), no amount of red tape or hoop jumping can convince them to send you the discs for any reason.  Kept telling me that I'd need to go out and purchase the physical software from a retailer or order from the EAstore, so I've been looking for a bypass for this for a while now.

18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, my game asploded! on: 2007 April 20, 19:50:40
Hmm, I wonder if that particular .exe would also work with a downloaded version from EALink...  I'm getting rather tired of not being able to play when my cable company decides to "upgrade" something that was working fine to start with.
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lot Fixer/"Batman Box" help... on: 2007 April 15, 03:22:45
Thank you for the quick response, I just didn't want to waste any more time searching for something that I may already have (and do, for that matter).  I just hadn't actually spawned the debugger yet, so was unaware of its appearance.

Thanks again.

20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Lot Fixer/"Batman Box" help... on: 2007 April 15, 03:11:33
Is this the same thing as the lot debugger?  If not, where might I find this particular mod?  I've searched around for a couple hours now and can't seem to locate it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
