TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The Movies (the game)

Running the game in pause mode is extremely limited. You can place lots, but you can't move or delete anyone or anything. I wish you could zoom out more. How are you guys dealing with the large lots with a lot going on? I kind of liked it better when it was a smaller lot. It was much easier to deal with. Oh, most definitely!! Not even so much a smaller lot but fewer actors and directors! I finally ran out of room (my lot is arranged in a bit of a WWIII theme- meaning there's no rhyme or reason to it at all) and started getting rid of some of the older sets. I figured out how to delete them almost immediately and completely by accident, so I was lucky there. It's odd that the instruction booklet that comes with it is so... lacking. There are a couple of things that do somewhat annoy me... I wish you could "assign" someone to do something until you directed them otherwise- like actors practicing. They practice for a while then piss off to do their own little thing. bleh. I say get your butt in there and don't come out until that bar is green!!! Even something like the queue system in TS2 would work. I also wish you could see which trailer they were assigned to when you click on them...I hate having to hover over each trailer trying to find the right one. My first star is about 5 years from retirement right now; I'm waiting to see if that brings any perks with it. I recently unlocked the implants, so now all of my 'starlets' have been going in for... um... enhancements. Really torques them off while it's being done but seems to up the appeal factor. Can't wait for the liposuction to become available! I've won a few awards (for some reason my directors do especially well) and have managed a 3 1/2 star flick. My studio just made it up to #2 on the list, so I'm quite pleased with myself! lol For all it's downfalls I'm really, really liking this game. I'll admit that I haven't even begun to think about making my own movies- my hands are too full just keeping everyone happy and keeping the buildings from falling to pieces. I suppose I'll tackle that when and if I ever become proficient at just keeping everyone's moods up. All in all, it's the best game I've gotten since TS2 came out. Be warned, though, it will suck your life away! The first day I played it I started around 4pm... next thing I knew I was getting hungry so I looked at the clock and it was just after midnight.

I don't know if there's strange things afoot in my game or if it's the phone hack, but when I had it in none of my townies seemed to have phones. Once I removed the hack I was able to call everyone I met (townie or otherwise).

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / memories of meetings that never happened

I thought this was amusing.
My sim was burglarized (or is it burgled??) last night. The car alarm did its job, the police came and after a knock-down, drag-out fight the burgler (Chloe something) was cuffed and hauled away. My sim, of course, slept through the entire episode.
Now she keeps getting burnination pictures of the burgler, so I checked her memories. And sure enough, right before the memory of "burgler!" is the wonderful "Met Chloe! Nice to meet you stranger!" memory. Under the friends tab there's a picture of Chloe (who she's furious with, understandably) and a relationship of -100/-100.
All this, despite the fact that she slept through the whole thing. Maxis sure does enjoy using that new furious state.

That actually makes perfect sense! Which is probably why nobody thought of it sooner. Who'd have thought of this game making sense? I think we're all so accustomed to the little glitches that when something like that happens we immediately jump to the conclusion that it's a bug. Nah, no stick poking from me.... I'd have done the same thing as you.

That's really, really bizarre. I honestly have to wonder if somehow a hack is still lurking in there somewhere. I've had TONS of dates downtown that ended up being flops with one sim blatantly cheating on another (those romance sims!). Enough so where they fell out of love and I've never, ever seen that sort of message. It would be cool, though. I'd love to have a break up option that doesn't force your sims to have a drawn-out relationship deterioration.

I'm of two minds on the furious thing.... sometimes it works out to an advantage, and it certainly spices things up. But it goes way overboard, is inconsistent and produces some really strange behavior. I'm to the point where I'm exceedingly annoyed with it.
Has anyone else noticed the "furious" sims coming over to the other sims house (the one they're furious with) uninvited, just walk in the house and stay. Literally for hours and hours. The other sim doesn't even have to be home.
When I first installed NL, Ajay Loner and Countess V had a nice friendship thing going on. Just a good ol' 100/100 relationship. Nothing romantic on his part, no hearts, no flirting, etc. Somehow the Countess ended up with a crush on him, even though there had been no flirting. Naturally, she shows up while he's on a date with his current love, a townie named Felicia. Countess rushes over and slaps the snot out of him. Felicia is then mad at him now, too, for unexplicable reasons. At that point Ajay bailed, since the date was about to end anyway.
Over the next three sim days the Countess would come by during the day and steal the paper or kick over the trash can, pull the "Ahhh, the sun, I must flee!" bit and leave. As soon as the sun went down (and Ajay went to work) she'd show up at his house, just stroll on inside and plonk herself down on the couch. Over the next 6 to 8 hours she'd just sit there with the burnination picture of Ajay popping up in her thought bubble. What really made it interesting is that after the first day of this Felicia started showing up and doing the same damn thing. Ajay would leave for work and the two women would show up, sit down on his couch and each one would sit there stewing with multiple burnination Ajay piccies in their thought bubbles. Oddly enough, they never, ever conversed with one another- they'd just sit there next to each other for hours on end stewing and wouldn't leave until Ajay got home from work and asked them to.
Eventually he was able to get both relationships back on track, but not without a lot of work on my part. And these were fortune sims! I'm afraid to play any of the romance aspirations at this point- the offended sim may just show up at their house and *never* leave.

I'll tell you what, the only really useful thing I've found for the vampires is during pregnancy. Pregnant vamps are a breeze! Since they sleep all day in the coffin (no decay) and their needs don't drop hardly at all at night the only real tell-tale signs were the belly, the waddle and the morning sickness the first day.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: "Watch Out!" Stupid Driveway...

Ah, I see what you mean. It would make more sense for the action to pop up and override everything if someone was actually in the vehicle (a valid reason to watch out, I would think). I fail to see why one would need to watch out for a vehicle sitting in a driveway with no one in it... unless the previous driver had neglected to set the parking brake. All I know is it is damned inconvenient!

Those are both really valid reasons, Nectare, but the 'Watch Out!' is happening after the sim arrives home and gets out of the car.. Sim arrives home. Sim parks car. Sim sets car alarm. Sim begins to walk into the house. 'Watch Out!' thumbnail appears. Sim stops walking and actions drop out of queue.
It does it with a garage or only a driveway (on a couple of my existing lots there's just not enough room to build a garage). I'd just love to know what it is they're supposed to 'watch out' for.

I'm finding this about as frustrating as the phone ringing constantly!
I can no longer queue up actions for my sim to do when they arrive home, because they drop out of queue and a stupid icon with the driveway and "Watch Out!" pops up. The sim doesn't do anything... just stands there by the car. Exactly WHAT are they supposed to watch out for?? They're the one who pulled into the darn drive in the first place. Am I missing an animation or something here?

one more thing to add about nightlife, if anyone can confirm this would be great. cause if it is really a bug, maybe it's included in the patch:
WooHooing in the photo booth doesn't create a memory. booth sims were virgins and neither of them got the "first time ever" or the "first time with this sim" memories.
Same here. Had a sim woohoo with 2 different sims in the car and another in the photo booth, and still kept getting the "woohoo with 3 different sims' want. Sure enough, there was no memory of the photo booth woohoo. Strange, you'd have thought it would create quite the memory, seeing as every damn sim in the bowling alley (including Bella) was standing outside cheering them on.

She doesn't like people.
Well, I can't say that I really like her, either! Last night whilst on a date she showed up and proceeded to bash my poor sim in the head with her purse. While I can understand this happening if she catches them in any interactions she deems "naughty", this one threw me for a loop because the date had literally just begun- no public displays of affection, hell, they didn't even have a chance to say a word to one another. The sims got out of the car and made it as far as the sidewalk before the ol' bat began her purse-bashing. Does she perhaps have memories of a previous date?? Kind of scary to think that she's stalking around, bottling up her rage for days until she sees the offending sim again! At that rate she's going to be going through a lot of purses...

I've got the same problem, Ancient. My simmies can sing their little hearts out and I can't hear a thing. Then again, maybe I'm not missing much if it's anything like the karaoke/open mic thing in Superstar!

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Other Games?
|
on: 2005 July 18, 09:36:31

A lot of people collect stamps, coins and whatnot. I tend to amass pathetic amounts of computer games... many of which I've never even taken out of the box, much less installed and played. Such as (don't rip my lips off, please, JMP, I'll get around to them some day) Civ II and Civ III. Have the complete Morrowind sitting here as well, which I bought in anticipation of my wrist surgery, thinking I'd have a good 6 to 8 weeks off work to really get into it. Was a bit tricky to do seeing as I needed two hands and with one arm in a cast it just didn't work. I suppose I'll give it another shot eventually. I've got all of the city building games (and I also liked Emperor the best of the whole lot), going all the way back to the original Caesar. I can still hear my computer chanting "Plebes. Plebes." at me over and over again whenever more workers were needed (jeez, I can't remember, was that the first or second??)
I loved all the Age of Empires and Mythology games with expansions and still play those from time to time. Same goes for Tropico2, although I absolutely loathed the first one for some odd reason. Stronghold was okay, and I'm toying with the idea of getting the new one. Pirates! was probably one of the easiest and most repetitive games I've ever played, and I was so horribly addicted to it in spite of the redundancy. In fact, I played it just the other day for the first time in months and still adore it. I was really into Diablo I and II for a looong time, and had my assassin up to a level 81 when I finally got sick of it (and haven't touched it since). The various Roller Coaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon games still see action sporadically. The Myst games were great but once you'd solved them... meh, no sense in doing them again. Now they're amazingly proficient at gathering dust. I purchased Psychonauts last weekend and must say that thus far I'm NOT impressed. I guess it's just not my thing, so I highly doubt I'll finish it and suspect it will soon be employed as a dust collector with Myst et. al.
I'll still trot out the old Black & White games now and then, which I suspect ties into my sim addiction. It's hard to *not* like a game where you're God.
