1  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Bork Pool for L&P Sims2 'Apartment Life/Fill Up With All The Odds & Ends'EP8 on: 2008 July 01, 06:58:56
Apartment Life will be horribly incompatible with the Sims 2 Store, and anyone who actually paid for the stuff in there and got it from EA will have to delete their neighborhoods and reinstall and/or choose between the crap they paid for and the next expansion. People who pirated the downloads will be unaffected.
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Freetime Patch is out on: 2008 May 30, 20:11:05
Oooh, what sections? The only time I enjoy the BBS is when they are united in their anger.
The FreeTime expansion section looks busy and for the moment unmoderated.  Grin
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Freetime Patch is out on: 2008 May 29, 22:52:33
Wonder if the next EP Apartments will re-break some of these fixes or do more harm to the game it self. Would have been more logical to just wait till the The Sims 2 series was done then come out with a large patch at the end then to have us remove hacks now and then put them back in later after the next EP comes out. We will end up with a broken game anyways since Sims 2 is  almost done and they are busy getting Sims 3 out the door. I don't think I will be in any rush to play the next generation of the Sims anytime soon.
My optimistic side wants to believe that EA is really working on patching FreeTime because of player complaints, but then I notice that they're selling another stuff pack next month and it seems to work well for them when they release fixes right before they ask for more money.

There seems to be a new round of SecuROM-related complaints on the BBS from it, and I'm definitely waiting for a crack before I touch the patch. Does someone more adventurous know if the installer's going to get wobbly about my having cleaned-out template neighborhoods and camera mods, though? I had no issues with patch 1, for what it's worth.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Questions, questions.. on: 2008 May 07, 18:20:21
Well hey, in real life people are also homosexuals and lesbians, so why not sims!

I find it interesting and somewhat disturbing that you are so off-put by same sex relationships but are perfectly fine with adult/teen romantic interactions. Personally the thought of Daniel Pleasant playing grab-ass with Meadow Thayer is pretty off-putting to me.
I have ACR with teen/adult enabled a lot of the time, not because I have any love for older adults going after my teens, but because I don't like having teens that were going steady with each other completely unable to interact romantically just because one of them moved to college and the other one's still a teen.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: FreeTime Patch Released on: 2008 April 02, 19:51:02
Unfortunately people are too stupid to under what "Try taking the hacks out first" means...  Sad
Or they only download from the Exchange *shudder* and have acquired a whole bunch of incompatible hacks with hashed filenames without realizing it.  Tongue
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: EA/Maxis has found the Nvidia problem! on: 2008 March 16, 21:30:39
Hmm. I get no Nvidia problem and I have Norton Anti-virus and Security protector and God knows what other Norton crap on my machine, and I always leave my internet on, and I have a very old Nvidia video gaming card.
But even I know not to turn my anti-virus off and leave my internet on; that's just asking for trouble.
I'm in a similar position; I play on an ancient nVidia card that doesn't know what a pixel shader is, and it has never blue-screened on me playing Sims 2 or anything else. My instinct is saying that it's either a EA problem, a nVidia driver problem, or some combination of both, and that Norton is fairly irrelevant; however, really EA and nVidia need to be working together to fix this, as it's not doing either company any good, rather than sniping about it.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: FT no CD-Crack on: 2008 March 01, 01:17:21
Okay here's a stupid question and feel free to answer it via PM. Since I got screwed by EA over the whole BV/SecuRom thing, I won't buy any of their games now. How do I play my legal version of BV (aside from putting it in the disc tray, I am scared to death to) and stuff like Free Time? Yes I know the obvious answer "you don't" but I'm sure there are "other means".
Install it and then replace the game's .exe file with a no-CD crack before you play it. There's more details about this in the SecuROM sticky post. As a bonus, you won't have to put in the CD every time you play.
8  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Pre-order Bonus for Free Time: Have a Ballerina Poster on: 2008 February 28, 21:09:10
The one I picked up at Best Buy today had a sticker for rubber ducks, but weren't they from a prior EP?  I could swear I've seen them already.
The BBS rumor (so take it with a grain of salt) is that the Best Buy ducks were meant to be a pre-order bonus for Kitchen and Bath, but somehow ended up on FreeTime. Whether it's actually downloadable now also seems to be in doubt.  Roll Eyes
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to get rid of SecuRom, NOW on: 2007 October 10, 23:56:11
Bad advice..

If you use a patch that patches the exe file and then overwrite that exe file with a nocd crack that was made based on an earlier exe build, you're most likely going to limit some of the fixes the patch brought to the table.  On top of that, some hacks have to be re-done when a patch is released.  Those hacks may have an issue since the nocd crack will show that the game is an earlier build and not the newer build.  And there is a possiblity no new nocd crack will be made.  I'm pretty sure they never made a new one when Seasons was patched, they just made an image file you can use daemon and yasu with.

Ubisoft, Eidos, EA Games, Konami, and Rockstar are just a few of the publishers who use securom and who will be using the newer version.  Ubi is going to be releasing some pretty fun games in the next few months.  So if you're a gamer, I'd just get used to securom because even you get a nocd crack, chances are they'll patch the game and you'll need the patch.  And since there's never a guarantee of a new nocd crack being made for a patched exe, you'd be stuck using the image file or the cd and need securom.

Securom is about as bright as the drm shit sony made for wma files.  But the publishers are so paranoid about piracy that they're just ignoring the fact that software like securom and starforce are crap.  Starforce was by far worse than securom but Ubi and a few others finally dropped it, thankfully.

And there's a better alternative? I'm not the kind of person who would normally get into warez at all, but right now it looks like the better alternative to invasive copy protection is either pirating games or buying a console and swearing off PC gaming. Is either good for EA or the gaming industry as a whole?
I'm reluctant to remove SecuROM because I'm worried about Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword not working (thank you, 2K Games!) but then again, Bioshock broke people's Beyond The Sword game with incompatibility between games running different versions of SecuROM 7. I realize it's probably a corporate decision by EA to include SecuROM 7 on all their games and Sims players are just getting caught in it, but what else can we do?
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: DJSims' Wardrobe Wrangler on: 2007 October 10, 21:10:13
In contrast, the only problem I've had with Wardrobe Wrangler so far is that it doesn't play nice with Dewshine's Oneseries skins, probably because those skins are genetic-ized between 1 and 2 and Wardrobe Wrangler is expecting a number between 0 and 1.
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: BV patch is out on: 2007 October 10, 02:45:18
The same thing just happened to me but I refresh the page and it appeared.  The site is probably overfload with request to download the patch.

ETA:  And considering the launcher will probably make a notice to all player a patch is out when they start their game, there are probably a lot of people trying to download it at the same time.
There's a link to download the new patch on the launcher, yes.
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage inconsistently refusing to load! on: 2007 September 29, 00:56:42
Have you tried playing in Windows 95/98 compatibility mode?
There's no reason why I should have to do this on my Windows XP computer, but someone else suggested trying it somewhere and it fixed my problems with Bon Voyage failing to load.  Tongue
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: buyable vegetables & fruits seasons ep on: 2007 September 26, 20:15:16
I use Paladin's produce and fish packing stations over at http://www.simwardrobe.com/. The crates it makes are buyable, and before I reset the neighborhood Rose Greenman had a pretty decent plantsim agricultural empire going.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poll: Stealth Stairs on: 2007 July 29, 04:49:36
I hate these fancy building shit techniques when I want a house to play in. If I go to remodel or add rooms or whatever, I get all these weird glitchy effects because, since someone HAD to have secret stealth stairs and split levels and a fancy roof, floor "2" is really floor 53-and-a-half but only for 3 tiles after which it becomes floor 7-and-three-quarters so you can't build a room there... blech.
Yeah, I've had quite a few downloaded houses that I needed to expand/fix for Seasons/replace missing custom content/etc, but the builder had heavily used techniques (constrainFloorElevation being a prime offender) that made editing the lot, short of bulldozing the house entirely, very difficult. This puts me in the conundrum of downloading houses because I suck at building, but not being able to use downloaded houses because I suck at building.  Tongue
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ford Focus for Download at Official Site on: 2007 July 27, 17:30:42
I didn't really mind the H&M pack, honestly. Most of the stuff in there that has the logo is also available without the logo, so you can still use all the stuff and never ever see the H&M logo. Of course, I also actually liked the clothing, so...
I'd like the H&M stuff better if EA weren't asking for money for it. (Then again, there's not an actual physical store within fifty miles of where I live, so my reaction to H&M Stuff was "who is that?")
The Ford cars are free to download, which makes up for a lot of their being advertising.
16  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Greater LTW Variety & Sanity on: 2007 July 04, 01:17:42
Would it be possible to add a check for having graduated from Uni to get the University career lifetime wants? I use this and the awesome Uni/LS careers LTW hack, and a few days ago I had a plantsim growing up from toddler to adult roll Cult Leader as her lifetime want. I cheated to get her into the Paranormal career, but I'm a little nervous about whether giving plantsims the University graduation bonuses they can't actually earn through normal gameplay in Seasons is going to make something blow up.  Cheesy
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Butterflies and Build Mode on: 2007 June 30, 02:36:16
It could be worse. You could have put a sim family on an empty lot in Seasons, have it rain in the five seconds before you hit pause, and then not be able to place foundation tiles over the puddles from the rain.  Grin
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pond Koi on: 2007 June 29, 01:33:12
If you don't have the graphics card to see fish in the pond, why would you assume a third-party mod would be any less graphics-intensive?

Because a third-party mod for fish might not use shaders.
EA's aquarium used to not use shaders for the fish until circa Nightlife. My antique graphics card doesn't know what pixel shaders are, and I just want my fish back.  Cry
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Third Seasons Patch is out.... on: 2007 June 21, 00:26:17
BAHA he quoted me.
And completly taken it out of context at that.

Quote
but since then I have read posts that say things like "the game is completely unplayable because of bugs", or or comparing the bugs in the game to "a new TV that you plug it in and it doesn't turn on."

I was arguing with some dickhead who said that we should all stop bitching and be happy with what weve got.  I asked if he'd be happy if he'd brought a tv and only the sound works? Would he be satisfied with that?
If anyone cares that thread is here
I noticed that. How come everyone who sounds reasonably intelligent and sane on the BBS also happens to be from MATY?  Cheesy
20  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jun "More Awful Than You": Stupidass Houses! on: 2007 June 20, 04:00:32
I don't think that will be taken into consideration, no. It's only ones who have made their houses with Seasons exp installed that will be pointed and laughed at if they make them un-weather worthy.
Aww, so we can't make fun of people without Seasons who still are making roofs that aren't watertight?  Grin
I put some sims in this starter house last night, and while I'm not seriously entering it in the contest (as it's appropriate for the theme it's in) it was a lot of fun when a thunderstorm came.

21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: H&M fashions on: 2007 June 19, 03:21:32
Ok what is the H&M Fashions? Is it a new pack that maxis came out with or something somebody on here is doing? Ive seen it around but no clue as to what it is.
Latest stuff pack from EA.
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Second Seasons Patch is out.... on: 2007 June 16, 06:52:21

I've said my piece about this whole Second Patch issue on the BBS

Honestly it has been far too long since there has been a proper Twain Rant...sorry for making y'all wait Wink

Awesome rant, Twain, and your thread isn't even locked, yet.  Cheesy
I'm still waiting for the drama-phobic llama a of a community manager they have these days to tell me off about the anti-paysite propaganda in my signature, but no one's messed with it yet.  Grin

I was blissfully out of town, and by the time I saw Seasons patch 2, it was still up but MaxoidSam had acknowledged there were problems with it and patch 3 would be forthcoming, so I figured that I'd hang onto my awesome fixes a while longer. Then it was pulled.
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Custom Hair Mesh... What is a acceptable poly range? on: 2007 May 20, 23:31:14
Yeah, I'd avoid those hairs as much as possible, if I were you. I would like to know how you're checking the vertices and faces, though. I remember doing it one day in SimPE and can't seem to recall how I did it.
I'm generally lazy and use SimPE's Mesh Scanner to look; the problem with it, though, is that if a good creator puts several states of an object (like counters) or different versions of a hair mesh for different ages together in one package, Mesh Scanner will lump them all together and tell me, say, that Nouk's messy ponytail hair is over 10,000 polys when it's not actually anywhere near that.

24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can't Install Sims 2? on: 2007 May 20, 23:14:43
My CD isn't dirty, it's literally scratched.
EA replaced two scratched Sims 1 disks for me back in the day without too much hassle, but they do charge money for it. Torrents are free, though. Smiley
25  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: May "More Awful Than You": Buttugly Brokeass Furniture on: 2007 May 20, 03:20:15
Holy Simoly's rock spa is a thousand times better. Why screw with something when someone's done ir right...and at least a year earlier?
Because it's a donation item and some people haven't yet plundered the booty?  Wink
Anyway, it's not quite feeEssen, but this made me wince today:

It's a hacked object, and I haven't put it in my game so I can't judge how well it does what it claims to do, but I can still wonder whether that camera is being held backwards or not, why it's all one color (though it comes with recolors that look more like a real camera) why it's too big for sims, why sim hands clip through it, and where the 4000 polys in it went.

It can sit on a table, though, so I guess it counts as butt-ugly broke-ass furniture.

It's here if you want it, but you have to go through message board hoopla to download:
