There are no error logs or messages; the fish with bait action just drops out of the queue when fish with lure is fine. I'm not sure it's seeds; that was someone else's conclusion and looked completely plausible in my game. From today's test, it's not that simple.
Yesterday, my sim learned to fish with no bait. When instructed to fish with bait, the action dropped out of the queue with no message. He had collected some seeds which were in his inventory. This is a well played 'hood so the seeds could have been any age. Removing them from inventory (transfer to fridge and selling) didn't fix the problem. Today, I cleared all caches and went back to the sim. He harvested his garden and went fishing; he could fish with and without bait. He then went seed collecting and could no longer fish with bait; fishing with the lure was fine. By that point he was pretty tired. Looks conclusive, but.........
I started a new hood and set 4 sims fishing. Then two went seed collecting, one bought bait from the shop and another raided a garden for bait. The sim who collected 2 tomato seeds had no problem fishing with them, with raided lettuce or without bait. Two sims using shop bait (one with seeds, one not) could fish without bait, but not with bait. They both had low motives, so I applied maxmotives. After that they could both fish with bait again. I tired them out and the problem didn't recur. Now I'm confused. I have a saved file from just before maxmotives, but it's too big.

Can't fish using the "choose bait" option. I can fish, but any time I try to choose bait to fish, the action immediately drops from queue.
Twallan's Overwatch has a "Fish With Bait" fix in it. It may or may not be for the particular issue you are experiencing. I think Overwatch is work installing either way. If it fixes your particular issue, great. If not, it still fixes or prevents many other issues. I've got the 'Can't Fish with Bait' issue and I don't even have pets! I guess it came with the patches. I did read you can fix it buy clearing caches, but it comes back whenever you put seeds in the inventory. http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/447507.page Is awesomemod going to fix it? I don't really want to add Overwatch to my game.

So given all this wonderfully helpful information....... how do you succeed at the bad apple challenge? The restaurant gives you one bad apple and you have to produce 10 fairly quickly. Basically you need to lower the quality of produce rather than increasing it.
1. If your sim has access to a putrid/horrifying quality omni plant, you can feed your bad apple to it and hope it produces more bad apples. What are the odds? Would not watering the omni plant make any difference? Fertilising is essential and doesn't affect quality. Are you saying that tending makes no difference to quality either?
2. If there's no putrid omni plant and your sim (or a house mate) has no/(low?) gardening skill, can you just plant the bad apple and treat it badly as above? Getting 10 bad fruit in the time is hard, so you'd probably need to hunt for bad quality seeds and plant those as well.
3. If your sim has good gardening skill, but no putrid omni plants, what then? This is situation normal for me, given that you can't re-order omni seeds and can only buy normal plants in debug. Planting the bad apple gives a normal plant, so what then? I had a couple of ideas - probably impractical..... a. send your sim trash rummaging and hope they find bad, horrifying or putrid apples. Is it likely? NB I suspect the supreme commander may helpfully dispose of them for you, so trash rummaging manually is indicated! b. Send your sims seed hunting for putrid or horrifying quality apple seeds. Do they exist? I'm playing custom hoods and not seeing them. Do they get spawned by the "common seed 1" spawner?

So if sim A sells a sculpture by sim B, it doesn't count for A's wish or B's wish?
Does the sculpture on the lot have to have a specific value? like I said gnomes don't work and the cheap sculpture I tried didn't work either.
Is this written up anywhere? I tried google & the wiki's, but turned up nothing. Yes I can work it out if I have to, but I'm sort of averse to doing original research if it's all written up my someone more methodical than me. Also trying it out on a family you're playing means messing up A's wants while you sort out B's and losing track of C&D who are tomb-raiding. It's irritating that you don't get better in game help when the skills aren't all set up the same way. We don't have the "sell X" wants for the base game skills & the photo "sell X" wants from WA don't work. Paintings, fish and photo's have 'created/caught by' info, but sculptures don't. I haven't tried inventing at all.
edit to add - the other irritation is putting sculptures with no creator info in the family inventory. A sim moving out can't take stuff he made himsel with him because you can't identify it. Also only brand new creations seem to count for the "sell X". Things you put in the family inventory made by wtf know don't, though they do count to the 'have X on lot".

I managed to marry a sim in the way you tried first, but I felt lucky that it worked as I also read reports of problems.
If your sim now has a lot of other problems, you're in bigger trouble and I've no idea how to help. This would be a good time to revert to a back up if you've got one. I was glad I thought to make one before I tried the proposal.

What are the rules for the sculpting? I've got a family discovering sculpting.. Am I right in thinking that the rules vary between the various skills? Exceedingly annoying!
Wish to "Have 50 statues on the lot" 1. do they have to be 50 homemade sculptures? Buy mode stuff works for painting. Bought gnomes don't count, but maybe they're garden deco... 2. do melted ice sculptures count?
Wish to "Sell sculptures worth X" 1. Does the sim have to sell something he/she sculpted personally? With fish and veg it's the seller who gets the cash credited in their skill journal regardless of who did the work. I've never thought to check paintings. The wish to "sell photos worth X" would be comparable, but it doesn't work at all of course. Someone else's photo will do nicely for a WA quest btw. If Sim A does the selling, does SimB get credit or does the money vanish? 2. can you make it work with things you put in the family inventory? These don't say who created them, unlike paintings and photos.

Thanks for all your work in putting it together. I was enjoying playing with this grumpy, loser last night and look forward to trying others. Problem: There are no options coming up on either grocery store. I click on a grocery store and.... nothing..... Other shops I've been to are fine. It's probably me.... it usually is. I'm fully patched, but nothing is decrapyfied. I didn't use your save, just played as it was. Comment: When you load it up, the initial impression is GREEN - very green, lots of green and not a particuarly nice green either. It's not that I'm voting for trees per se, but they would tone down the greenness. You get used to it of course.

Oh rats! Thanks for checking though....
I suspect that Meadow Lawns, like other downloadable 'hoods has a novelty value, but people tend to go back to their 'own' hood relatively quickly. Certainly no-one has posted to say they are still playing it. In that case people may never reach meltdown point.

I have a somewhat borked family tree, can anyone tell me how serious it is? What might the repercussions be on the 'hood?
There are 6 sims: 2 alive and 4 dead. When you look at the family tree for one of the live sims in game, the relationships between all the sims are correct, but the thumbnails for the 4 dead sims are blank. When you click on one of blank icons, the game changes the blank to the thumbnail of the previous sim. The 4 dead sims have stub files and can't be resurrected. SimPE shows thumbnails for them.
This is part of the Monty family which has been exported and cleaned at least twice before being put in Meadow Lawns which is available for download. 5 of the sims were maxis made in the first place and one was born in game. Yes, I know ... I shouldn't have used them, but I didn't know that then.

Apart from hacks to gameplay, you should think about: 1. cleaned 'hood templates to stop the critturs et al appearing in every 'hood the first time you play (see Peasantry) 2. clean versions of the maxis 'hoods if you're going to restart (Peasantry - NB empty is much more radical than clean!) 3. default replacement skins (lots of options, but all better than maxis fugglies) 4. a camera mod that lets you get to the edges of the 'hood 5. plasticbox's lighting fix gets the sunlight the right way round http://linna.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=3256346. The CEP files, without much CC isn't recolourable and your CC won't load 7. extra lot sizes if you plan on building a lot (MTS2?) If you want something to play apart from the Maxis 'hoods, you could try one of the complete user made 'hoods. I've just DL'd the N099 project hood and am having great fun with it! http://n99forumpaks.jfade.com/old.php?category=91 Mootilda is making a list and reviewing them here http://www.modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=718

So it would be worth changing the lighting on community lots in v7; the fix makes things look so much brighter.
However, I'm pretty much decided against updating the 'hood for the moment. There are too many practical problems. Apart from the things already mentioned, I now find I can't get AnyGameStarter to run because my game is not on a standard path. AG operates by moving the 'EA Games' folder around and I renamed mine during the install. If/when I can do something about the Montys, I'll bite the bullet.
I thought about coming at the crash problem from the other direction, creating a new hood with 10 lots, placing Maxis downloadables and seeing which lots crash. But it's not a quick and easy method as I have 138 package files in that folder: sims, their clothes and face paint as well objects. I know Philip has the teen vamp outfit in his wardrobe and that lot loaded OK, so maybe the clothes aren't a problem. However it then occurred to me that all the townies have been shopping and have a random collection of things in their inventories. One of the townies might have bought a Cat-A-Strophic along the way and deleting items off the lots won't fix that.
Is there anyone in the sims community who might already know or could find out easily which maxis objects are a problem?
UPDATE - I realised that the 3 problem objects you've found are also part of the Festive Holiday Stuff Pack and anyone who has that doesn't need to download duplicate items from the exchange. The snowman construction set, the 'a touch of cornocupia' horn and two menorahs (Kwanzaa Kinara and Chanukah Kinara) are also in this category. I'd have to uninstall the Festive Holiday Pack to test whether they cause crashes as well. I haven't looked at the clothes etc, but have proved that most maxoid exchange items do behave nicely. I'll update on this tomorrow.

Thanks for the update on the maxis objects. Why on earth don't they just disappear like normal objects? .....GRRR ..... So what else did I use and where... I know I used things like the Christmas decorations; the bar certainly has them. Other than that, I just don't remember.
I'm glad the ford mustangs behave normally. Any word on the driveway?
I've worked out how to get into the family tree in SimPE, but it doesn't help. The dead sims have thumbnails in SimPE, so I don't know why the game is defaulting to the last pic it had in memory rather than showing the actual dead sim. If all that's wrong with the 4 character files is that the thumbnails are messed up, then it's not a biggie because they won't be wandering around and can't be resurrected. It's that word IF.....
btw I went and downloaded some of the other hoods. I LOVE the N099 project with Jfade's controller. Hours of fun to come. Thank you.

TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Update on the Monty files
|
on: 2011 January 20, 13:54:26
|
I got SimPE to show me the dead Monty character files; there are 5 stubs (Bianca, Kent, Patrizio, Antonio and Claudio). I can't seem to get into the actual family tree. Clicking on family ties doesn't do it. I've either forgotten how or SIMPE has changed since the version I knew.
From in game, these 5 names are the only dead sims in the Isabella's family tree. I see their names but no pics. While that's clearly messed up, I don't see how it could cause corruption. The game isn't trying to do anything except show you a pic. The names are right, so it's looking at the right characters, but not finding pics.
Meadow Lawns got looked at pretty hard when it was new. I had a couple of people test drive it as well. If you think it's potentially corrupt you should say so, but if it were true, I would have thought that MATYians would have gleefully and loudly pointed it out to me a long time ago. Not sure what else I can do....

I've been guilting over the problems you found and what I can do about them. Re crashing lots - I'm actually pretty pleased you can't get any of the lots to crash! I was thinking them through in my head last night as I went to sleep and Philip's is the only house I remember with a driveway. I'd have to do what you're doing and go back to every lot to be sure of my facts. As to community lots, I can see from the pics on the website that there are ford mustangs on the car showroom and probably a driveway too. I can also see a catastrophic cat on the flea market. I'm now wondering if the crash problem with Philip's lot was always the cat and not the driveway. hmmmm Re the Monty's. I think all the Monty ancestors are stubs, so they aren't going to be running around as ghosts spreading gossip if that helps. I think also that they were the first, or among the first families I placed. I tried very hard to keep the 'hood clean. Isabella Monty is one I remember doing a lot of work on and I did that in another 'hood before putting her in Meadow Lawns. Most families were kept clean from the start. I put for more effort into the backstory of the living sims than I did with ancestors. For me, the albums are the back story, not the family tree. Hope you like those. Staines family - somebody reported that they were getting flirt wants in that family. I couldn't see anything wrong with the family relationships, but it was a worry. It was intended as a dysfunctional family anyway so a bit of incest would be in keeping. Let me know if you see anything odd with them. They were pretty much the first family I ever made (in CAS). Camera hack required - it's noted on the website, but you can't get to the edges of the 'hood if you don't have a camera hack. The secret army base becomes a lot more secret without one! I give a link to Dewshine's update of Gunmod's hack, http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?p=1647071#post1647071but I had trouble with it in an all EP game and took it out. Do you have an expert recommendation. http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?p=1647071#post1647071Extras - I built seven cottages using Seasons which are much nicer than some of my base game efforts plus roller rink & skating rink lots. If I were playing the hood myself, I'd replace some of the cottages with these and add the community lots. All the Willow lots are free on TSR http://www.thesimsresource.com/members/cwykes/downloads/details/category/sims2-sets-lots/title/willow-lane/id/689231/ Yes, I know they come with added sypware... Putting them on my site is another job that's been on the to-do list forever. I'll mail clean files to you if you like the pics. Unless the Monty problem is fixable, I don't think it's worth doing a v7 of the 'hood. I should update the website though to say the catastrophic cat is required and note the Monty problem. Even updating the website is a pain because I haven't even got an ftp package installed on my new Win7 PC and there are probably passwords I've forgotten/lost; plus SimPE crashed on me both time I tried. If I were to update, would it be worth going round the lots to use that lighting fix you mention? I'm not clear if they'd stay fixed if downloaded by somebody without the fix. Well I have more things on my to-do list now... Let me know if the list grows.

I did play the household propertly and didn't cheat, as far as I remember anyway. I just ignored all skilling opportunities. Philip was perfectly happy with romance/popularity and pleasure sim kind of activities all through school. He didn't need to work of course being a spoiled rich kid. It was an amusing challenge.
Mootilda's blog has lots of things I've never seen, so I'm going back to read it more slowly. The catastrophic lawn ornanment is a problem I didn't know about. Several lots would crash without the driveway though and there is a used car lot, so the mustang is also needed.

Thank you for posting. I'm glad you like Meadow Lawns. It's really nice to find someone downloading it several years on. I can't play it myself because it's sort of finished as it is and I can't decide how to move the characters on... I'm sorry about the family tree. I didn't notice it was broken. It might be fixable with a few hours in SimPE, but I'd rather not tackle it to be honest. Someone reported a similar problem on the army base. my bad... Philip's dream house is crashing because it has a driveway and OFB can't handle driveways. They cause crashes rather than just disappearing like other NL buy/build items; it's one of the known issues. You'll need to get the driveway pack and Ford Mustang from the exchange. The mustang is on the first page and the driveway on the second. There are actually more of the old freebie maxoid deco things in the 'hood like old Christmas decorations in the bar, but they'll just disappear if you don't have them in. http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/search.php?asset_type=object&pid=Exchange_objects............................buried in the masses of print on the website .......................... Known issues 1 Aging was turned off on the lot where Cheryl Green lives. Fixed from v.5 2 The army base is right on the edge of the map. If you can't see it, adjust your neighbourhood camera settings or download Dewshine's replacement file (here). You can also get to the base using clickable neighbours. Visit one of the camp houses and you should be able to see it and click. 3 I've used the Maxis driveway and Ford Mustang downloads in a few houses. If you don't have Nightlife or the download, the cars and drives should disappear without causing a problem provided you have Pets or above. If OFB is your highest EP and you don't have Nightlife, I suggest you get the download to avoid potential crashes. 4 Flirt wants have been reported within the Staines family. I don't understand that because they are set as "family" though the relationship is "not defined". I intended them to be half-siblings at best from parents with a trail of broken marriages; they aren't genetically similar.

Just wanted to say that the CFF explorer thing made a huge difference to my game when I first started playing TS3. I got crashes without it and almost no crashes with it. I didn't put the fix back after I installed loft stuff and ambitions, but I haven't got the crashes back. I'd guess EA improved the memory handling since base game. I am getting these freezes. Sometimes the game unfreezes quickly, sometimes freezes last 10mins or so and sometimes I have to kill the game with task manager. Can't help on why/when.

Has anyone been able to isolate what series of events causes this to happen, or is it just a random crapshoot every time you attempt to marry a sim from the vacation neighborhoods? Could there be a safe way to marry them at all, to save those of us with fairly empty base hoods from having to create a mate in CAS for every sim? Yes, the fix is to get the latest AWESOMEMOD. Otherwise, breeding with a foreign sim will inevitably cause a BFBVFS. Also, when taking a foreign sim home, always do so from inside foreignia. So the threat of a BFBVFS has receded even if you don't move them in while in foreignia?
