TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Outings baffle me
|

My advice is, if you've already said yes, don't say yes again, and if the taxi doesn't arrive call one for yourself, or better yet, always take your own car (if possible).
But if you say no, first outing is canceled (talking about borkiness... eh) anyway; better again, send if possible another sim to answer the phone, and when the moron asks if sim xxx is available, say no. So far, it's the only way I found out to not scramble somehow the outing.
Huh. That's never happened to me. If I say no to the second outing and then go to a community lot the first outing usually works out just fine. I find outings pretty boring, although I do have one vampire who gets in a fight nearly every time, which usually means his outings "rock" or whatever the top rating is. It's fun, too, kicking some ass. He especially hates Mr. Big. They go at it all the time. Hilarious. (Must be sublimating something . . . ) That guy's surprisingly tough for a poofda in a smoking jacket. Once in a while, of course, getting in a fight backfires and then I get the bottom of the ratings and everyone's pissed off for a while. But one thing my vamp never is, is boring. Can't say that for a lot of sims, unfortunately, and I don't really want them all to be brawlers . . .As far as I can tell an outing's only point is to help your sim meet more people. I do like it when the in-laws ask a sim out after they've gotten engaged: that at least seems realistic and helps them meet their future family.

Actually, the double outing invite happens to me quite a bit, usually if I have more than one eligible sim on a lot. The way I avoid trouble is never accept more than one invite. Lately, since AL my sims have gotten "thanks a lot for standing me up" if they do anything, even autonomously, before the cab arrives. So I agree that taking your own car is probably safest. Also, sometimes with outings I have to call the taxi, and sometimes I don't. The game is definitely screwy. I often get children on outings. I immediately ask them to leave because the last thing my adult sims want are bratty little simlets calling them on the phone. One of my sims always gets Marcia whats-her-name but has avoided actually meeting her (whew) because he asks her to leave the group. Apparently that doesn't count as meeting her. I've only had one toddler recently, and boy did he pick the wrong tree to bark up (up which to bark?). My advice is, if you've already said yes, don't say yes again, and if the taxi doesn't arrive call one for yourself, or better yet, always take your own car (if possible).

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing outfits as maternity + deleting through bodyshop

This may be the stupidest question ever, but I can't delete anything in bodyshop. I have to do it in CAS. I don't see the little trashcan in bodyshop. What am I missing?
And since I'm being stupid anyways, am I the only one who can no longer delete makeup and accessories in-game? Is this something I could do in bodyshop? I've got Fairy wings that won't go away even though they're not in my DL folder.
Thx.

I think if you view sims 3 as being a whole different game from sims 2 it might be OK. I like the idea of personalities as opposed to aspirations and the greater variety of appearances of the sims, although they all look too much like Pixar characters for my taste. (Wall-EEE.) As I am sick to death of townies, I think it would be cool if Sims 3 had an option that let you create your own entire town, even if you only ended up playing one or two of the sims.
But I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be giving up my sims 2 even if I get sims 3. It would have to be a pretty absorbing game for that to happen and even though I find having to play every freaking sim in my neighborhood more than a bit tedious just so everyone ages together, I'm not sure I want to go to the other extreme and only get to play one sim. Also, if the game is allowed to determine the fates of anyone I'm not playing I shudder to think of the results. I think I'd end up not caring much about anyone except my own sim. I have a lot of questions, for starters, do the other sims have kids, so your neighborhood keeps growing until it becomes unplayable? Or do new townies sprout up when the old ones die? If everyone ages you need to get new sims somehow.
One thing I'd like to see is social consequences. Like, if you're a grouchy old lady your neighbors avoid you. Or if you're famous you get chased by screaming fans occasionally. Or if you break some guy's daughter's heart he comes and punches you in the nose. One thing I don't like about Sims 2 is the fact that no one's even slightly afraid of werewolves or vampires. All they ever make people do is pee their pants, which frankly is damned annoying. It would be great if some of the childishness would go away to be replaced by something approaching realism, but I'm not holding my breath.
Of course, I'll need a whole new computer to play this game so it's going to have to be pretty amazing to get me to shell out that much $$.
And, oh, getting back to the original question, when I first started playing Sims 2 I had a daughter get old while her mom was still an adult. This was because the mom became permaplat, which meant she could have all the green stuff she wanted while the daughter, a family sim, had 10 kids which was about four kids too many and was so depressed about it she got old while the youngest was still a toddler. Nothing I could do, as I didn't know about hacks way back then. So yeah, that was a little weird, and hasn't happened to me since because I am a much better player now.
And, I hear you, Kemowery. I've started making attractive sims for my college aged sims to marry because the guys, especially, are just too fugly.

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Bug! Crank Calling the Headmaster
|
on: 2006 October 19, 23:25:28

Since installing Pets, when I try to invite the Headmaster I can only crank call someone.
I don't have Glamour Life or FFS, otherwise have everything.
Mods I have installed: most of what Pescado makes that's been OK'd for Pets plus macrotastics and its recommended attachments, Crammyboy's penis hack, censor hack, Helaene's default skin/eye replacements.
Help!

Actually, I've noticed colorbinned custom hair showing up on townies in neighborhoods after downloading that hairstyle. For example, there's a waitress in Veronaville who has Seomi hair.
I had a sim with Enalya's bronze skin have a baby with a sim with default replacement paler skin and the kid is pale too. But another sim with Enalya's darkest skintone had a baby that looks just like her.
It seems pretty random to me, even with the default skintones. I've had game default "black" sims with "white" grandchildren, no infidelity involved.

I find this extremely irritating, myself. I can't ask someone in the same dorm on a community lot date, either. I seem to remember I used to be able to, but maybe I'm dreaming. That might have been on uni lots where they had cars. And, duh. Yeah. Going to the lot and then calling them would fix it, wouldn't it. But I still say it's stupid. I mean, they might be sharing a bed, but they need separate cabs? Like, OK, honey, I'll go scout the location and call you from there? I think the car/cab thing needs to be more consistent, same rules apply no matter what. You should be able to choose who goes and who stays every time you want multiple sims to go somewhere, whether they're in college or not and whether it's private or public transportation. I'm sure there are complicated programming rules behind all this, but it would be nice if it could be fixed.

Her husband's an elder who's retired. Maybe she has retirement envy? Thanks. I didn't think so. It's not like it's an option when she calls work. She's just going to have to wait.

Thank you, Pescado! I found Squinge at Insiminator, which I belong to. I'll check it out.
The sim in question is a hall of famer. I didn't realize she couldn't be hired away. But I'm bored with her present job so I'll have her quit and then she should be hireable. If not, I'll get the Squinge hack.
Thank you! This sim has a gold level toymaker badge that will really help my sim's business.
On a completely unrelated note: I've got a sim who's still an adult who wants to retire from her job. Can she do this? I thought you had to be an elder ...

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Can't Hire Specific Sim
|
on: 2006 September 18, 16:17:43

Hi,
Does anyone know the criteria for a sim being able to be hired to work at a business? It seems totally random to me. I can click on one sim and see the "hire" option and on another and it's not there.
Friendship points don't seem to matter. I've gotten the option on sims I'm not friends with at all. NPC or PC, it doesn't seem to matter either.
I have a specific sim I want to hire to work for a specific business but when I invite her to my business lot hiring her is not an option. She's a friend and a player sim but not a family member. I don't want to sit around until my biz owner is an elder, waiting for her to show up on that stupid "hire only these five sims" window you get when you choose Hire Employees.
Does anyone know how I can hire her?
Thanks!

I have to ask them on date again. You can't just call them and invite them to the lot. It's kind of a do-over.
It doesn't happen every time, just once in a while.
The sims leaving outing thing happens a lot more frequently. I just assumed it was because my computer couldn't handle all those sims at once, but maybe it's a game glitch.

Inability to woohoo in cars on home lots is a known bug associated with patch-2. A fix currently exists in the ofb/test directory.
Is that on the official site, or here? Thanks for the info. I don't have bathroom uses you installed in my community lots, just at home, and no one can make snapdragons yet. I think I'll give them both a try. I've got a couple of sims who are close to their gold flower badge ...

I've had other related errors: Some of my sims can no longer woohoo in their car on their home lot, only at a community lot. I've had sims invite me on an outing, only to end it the second my sim shows up. Was it my breath? And, the ever-popular, recurring, "Don't you care what I want? I'm leaving" directly followed by "You're some fantastic date!" after a dream date that involves woohoo. The date is then recorded as dream date, so no harm done. Just pretty annoying, as I make a point of asking my dates several times what they want. Can I help it that "go to college" or "fall in love with SOMEONE ELSE" isn't something my sim can (or would want to!??) make happen?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pregnant sim at work?
|
on: 2006 August 07, 16:29:00

It definitely seems to be a timing thing. I've had several pregnant sims go off to work and then pop as soon as they got home. But this only happens if "about to pop" coincides with the carpool. I've also seen extremely pregnant sims wandering around downtown or past my house when I'm playing another sim. I just invited a pregnant sim to move in with her boyfriend's family. She'd already "popped" on her home lot and was wearing maternity clothes but after she moved in she "popped" again and got the "kick back and relax" message, again. The kid was born two days later, and everything was fine. I was a little worried, but no harm done. And I once had a sim move to a new house and then "shooflee" that evening. I hadn't realized she was pregnant. She'd cheated on her spouse and got caught and I never heard the chime. But after she moved, sure enough, she was preggers, and her spouse somehow had forgotten all about the cheating. So apparently moving heals all evil? And, I had a sim "pop" while she was getting married. She got the big belly even though she was only one day pregnant. She kept it for two days. Apparently wedding clothes make you fatter.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Strange New Just Graduated, Get a Job on Computer Glitch

The jumping off the table, or another object, is a bug caused by a buggy object, based on the poticular object (table, bed, etc). I had this jump-off in TS1. Once jump-off the table, and once jump-off the chair. When I checked with the transmogrifier my downloaded objects, I saw that the cars have have been t-mogged on a table base, and one of the chairs was buggy. May be you should take all your downloaded objects, and check their origin, to find the buggy one.
How exactly would I do that? Is there a program to help with it? I've got so many DLs ... I thought it might be the laptop computer, because the bug doesn't start until they look for job, but it also happened with in-game computers. Does it matter if the object is installed on the lot? That would make it easier to pinpoint.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Strange New Just Graduated, Get a Job on Computer Glitch
|
on: 2006 August 06, 03:40:49
|
(This glitch was solved using the lot debugger, but I thought I'd post it in case someone else is having it too ... )
This happened on more than one lot. I hadn't downloaded anything new in weeks.
My sims all graduated from university, not from the same dorm. I had three custom dorms, all at the same U. Some sims moved "back home" and a group of them bought a house together (I use no more free rides so it was necessary!)
As soon as someone got a job using the computer everyone in the household lost their ability to sit in dining chairs. They'd pop back up from the dinner table, or the computer. Then everyone in the house lost their free will. I could move them around but they did nothing on their own, and one sim froze completely, rejecting all of my commands.
The house with the group of sims kept crashing. I had to move them to another lot.
Another lot just crashed upon loading. I'd played it before because the recent grads got married, had a baby, and then boom. Next time I tried to play, crash.
Don't know if it's all related but no one's going to that university anymore, just in case. I've got three for that neighborhood (I'll never do that again, either ... )
Anyway, just thought I'd share as a matter of interest. Force errors/in world solved every problem except the crashy one. I had to build new houses. Sad in one case, not in the other. The one house was so cool, and I couldn't recreate it exactly. The other one I was sick of anyway.
My game is getting glitchy, I think ...

LOL at Pescado, never know if you're serious or not.
And, it's OK to point and laugh at me. I'm just really relieved that it's not my game, just my damned video card.
So, I've got speedfan and it shows one green arrow and the rest are blue arrows pointing down. The hottest temp is 37 C. That's OK, right? I've got a large box fan blowing on the open case. I blew the dust out of it first. Yeah, I know, spit is bad but I figured dust is worse. And I've heard you shouldn't touch the interior, so I didn't.
I need new drivers, I think. I've had my video card for a while and haven't downloaded any new drivers for it. My brother, who is smarter than me, thinks that could be contributing. He has a toddler or I'd ask him to come over and download them for me.
I'm a big huge chicken. Nvidia says I need to delete my old drivers first. I think I'll back them up on disk.
Does anyone else have any advice? I know it seems like a small thing but I've tried it before and really hosed up my graphics, temporarily.
Go ahead and point and laugh, but advice would be appreciated.
Speaking of being stupid, I can't figure out how to upload pictures on this site, or I'd post a picture of my elder sim with the paper doll body. I snapped a picture of her, sans head. She looks pretty creepy.
