BFBVFS. Please define. Because I was away from Sims so long and even stopped running around the forums, I am not up to date on all of the abbreviations.
The longer explanation of what happened to our neighborhoods, as short as I can make it. We share the Sims desktop, so that I don't have to duplicate the downloads folder. We share the same game, then, but with different 'hoods. Originally, I had N004 and he had N005. N004 was my neighborhood. In the end, the game accidentally allowed 9 Sims on the lot after cheesecake incident. I hurriedly moved one adult off of the lot. I saved and exited. The adult got her own lot, but I did not build. It was about a week before I played again. I went to another lot. A sim was looking though the expensive telescope when I had major graphics errors, although I still had control. Since I hadn't saved for a while, I saved and exited. My roommates neighborhood was fine all this time. The next time I played, I went into an older house. A created teen who was now an Elder and also grandparent of the sim who was stargazing earlier was nowhere to be found. In fact, she had disappeared from the Family tree. I sent the youngest of the family off to college, saved and exited. I then decided to build a house for the earlier moved out adult. She was also missing. I went into a house where she was related, she was also gone from that Family tree. A little bit of thought later, realized that Justin (the stargazer) was the grandson of Auel (disappearing Elder) and the father of Alilbit's (adult) twins that caused the 9 sims.
I trashed the neighborhood and started from scratch, with a SC4 created terrain after installing Pets. I also uninstalled the 3 Maxis neighbohoods, so I now had/have N001.
Around this time, the roommate realized that his ever-expanding family trees would overfill the neighborhood. He also created his own hood in SC4. He started moving out people who would not make the tranisition to a new hood from N005.
When the card started glitching badly, I just trashed my new neighborhood and made another one. After uninstalling Pets, I again trashed and restarted.
So, after a few weeks, all of his Sims were in the Sim bin and I wan't playing. I was downloading after totally forgetting to backup the download folder when uninstalling/reinstalling. He didn't use the lots and houses bin at all. I knew of the other way...packaging sims and lots, but figured it would take longer than what he was doing. He began the slow process of moving his previous N005 sims into N003. When he was done, he asked me to trash his neighborhood. By the way, these are the 3rd and 4th generation Sims of his originally created sims!
From what you guys are saying, especially J.M., is that the roommate's N003 is or will always be problematic because of the moving from N005? He said he doesn't care if a toddler wants to who hoo with 20 sims, just so the toddler can move out with the appropriate person.
Thanks again for the enlightenment!
