Thanks, Pescado Please let us know if we ever have to mass download everything/most things, I don't know if too many people still play Sims 2 but I love the crap out of it.

Pardon the Necromancy but this was one of the top threads so it didn't make sense (to me) to make a new topic. I'm getting back into Sims 2 and last successfully used the Booty on April 30, 2019. I can't load any of the site links - is it something where we just have to keep checking every day for when the server decides to be kind and work?

Next time you play, try one thing out: when the sound cuts out, pause the game for 5-15 minutes and do something else near the computer while you wait; keep an ear open for any sudden spew of sounds, which should hopefully happen.
I am going to give this sentence a special Grammar Day thumbs up for being correctly punctuated. Some might quibble about the comma before the final subordinate clause, but given the length of the sentence, I am happy to let it stand. Thanks for participating in Grammar Day! *tips imaginary hat* I didn't know it was Grammar Day, but the thumbs up makes me feel speshul! <3 I also have the sound issue but this patch didn't cause it as it existed before this. I just save and exit, then restart. Or I go play something else.
The thread linked above has a solution that may help you avoid the constant restarting.

The sound doesn't come back on after a while. It took me a while to actually realise that the sound had turned off completely. I first noticed it in CAS. In CAS the background music tends to cut out after a song or two, but the sound effects play as normal. Last night when the sound cut out, I figured that was the case again. Only the sound effects (changing clothing options, outfits etc) when clicking the buttons were not playing and the sim wasn't saying anything either. The last time it happened, I had my sim teaching his dog to speak, as the interaction started, all sound cut out again once more. I continued playing for a few minutes, then saved and quit the game.
EDIT: What is PEBCAK?
Next time you play, try one thing out: when the sound cuts out, pause the game for 5-15 minutes and do something else near the computer while you wait; keep an ear open for any sudden spew of sounds, which should hopefully happen. If it happens, just repeat the same steps the next time the sound cuts out because you now know it will come back eventually.*read below* This is actually a good thing because it means your game isn't screwed, just a victim of a random bug that has been around for a while. If the sound doesn't come back, I can only suggest basic troubleshooting suggestions such as removing CC/mods, etc. Edit: A quick search led me to this thread right here on MATY: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=20852.0 - check it out if it matches your problem & follow the solution suggested. I know you said the sound cuts out completely, but I can't tell from your posts if you wait 5-15 minutes on Pause to see if the sound comes back. In my own experience with this issue and from other posts across the interwebz, the sound always comes back after a while.

Is anyone else experiencing random "ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x00000030" crashes to desktop since the 1.29 patch? The crash happens at random times - with or without CC - so sometimes I can play for a bit and do many things, but other times it's the exact opposite. My Sim lives in Appaloosa Plains and is only on week 2 of her life, but could it still be a possible save corruption?
I've been getting those, too, since 1.26. One was definitely a corrupt save, but my graphics card isn't well suited to games and seems to be part of the problem. Turning down the settings, getting rid of memories, and using a smaller neighbourhood is helping so far. I think she has a total of 5 memories (okay, maybe ~20 since they like to have memories of such trivial things) but I'll try deleting them, along with turning down some settings. I don't suspect graphics to be the issue, but it couldn't hurt to turn some settings down for a test. Thankfully, I won't be losing too much progress as she's only 2 weeks old, but these crashes are still ridiculous. I suspect save corruption, but we shall see.. Ever since I installed the 1.29 patch last night, I've had my sound cutting out and not coming back on. The sound plays as normal on load up, then about an hour or so after play, it cuts out. How typical of EA to "fix" things, and break a million other things.
Can you provide a bit more info? Does the sound cut off completely but come back after a while, all at once? If so, that's a problem that has been around for a while with no known cause, as far as I know.

Because AwesomeMod allows the entire neighborhood to actually take action independently, occasionally you will hear chimes or receive odd popups that don't pertain to your active sim, because EAxis never expected that an inactive sim would do something like that. These are basically harmless.
However, occasionally, the game may also cause impostor versions of your sim to run amok. To exterminate them, try "nukeimpostors", which will exterminate them with extreme prejudice.
Ah, that clears up everything, thanks Pescado. I was worried my game might be borked already, but that would be way too soon for a fresh install. I give it about a week of solid play before that happens Quincy is probably some random sim playing with the VR goggles. If you're playing in Appaloosa Falls there are VR goggles in the consignment store. To stop it, edit the consignment store and delete the VR goggles.
Oh, I am playing Appaloosa! I never knew VR Goggles gave those pop-ups, so I'll go ahead and delete that. Thanks for the tip. Incidentally, Expert Mode will squelch that particular brand of annoying popup, because your decision doesn't actually influence anything, it's purely a cosmetic annoyance...AND WHO REALLY GIVES A FUCK?
Tweak in AM? I will go configure that, then, thanks! Too bad, it would have been something to see some car chase followed by a car exploding by spikestrip. If nothing happens as a result of all my strength put into clicking an option, then yeah I really don't give a fuck.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Multiple Personality Sim, how to kill one?
|
on: 2011 December 16, 09:33:52

I'm playing on a completely fresh install of TS3 and expansions (new hard drive; Base Game, WA, Amb, NL, Gen, Pets) and in the second Sim-day of playing my Sim, I believe she has multiple personalities. In her second day of life, she did some low-level Police Work and, while I was intently watching the building, a pop-up appeared telling me that my Sim had gotten involved in a romantic relationship. I clicked the notification, but it just took me to the Life Lesson on Romantic Visibility. This left me feeling very confused, since I have forbidden my Sim to talk to anyone. It's hard to have a romantic relationship when you have zero acquaintances, or so I thought. Another mystery: when my Sim sleeps in her home - and she live alone as far as I know - I often hear the sound-chime of accomplishment...but who is accomplishing what? Finally, the creepiest (or not, your choice): my Sim arrives home from somewhere and goes to bed, and while she is putting on her PJs I get a little pop-up telling me that Quincy has a very short timeframe in which he can stop some criminals who did somethingorother, and it asks me if I want to "Ram the Car" or "Use Spikes". I use Spikes; nothing happens; my Sim goes to sleep. It seems like I'm plagued by some kind of phantom Sim, or my Sim chick has a dude named Quincy living inside her head. What's really going on, and what can I do about this? Thanks

FPS Limiter isn't working for my game, for some reason. I'm working on a new hard drive so I just installed Base, WA, Ambitions, LN, and Pets. Everything is patched up to 1.29 (Dec 14, 2011 patch). I downloaded a fresh copy of FPS Limiter & 3booter, and all files are in the root directory (C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3) and the Pets shortcut links to 3booter. I downloaded FPS limiter & 3booter 3 times, deleting the previous set before adding in the re-downloaded ones. I'm not sure what else to check. I used the FPS cheat and was getting 98+ in just the neighbourhood screen, with the camera not even moving. Any thoughts as to what I've done wrong? I'm assuming I've overlooked something because that seems more likely. Thanks

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is this possible: "Portable" Guitar for Sims 2? Edible Fruit?
|
on: 2009 October 21, 19:52:29

That's true, the only real benefit would be convenience, and possibly preventing a starving death for Sims who are on a community lot without amenities. Something like "edible fruit" and "portable guitars" just really doesn't inspire me. If anything, "leave the damn guitars alone" is the present mode of thinking. Hehe, it's annoying enough in Sims 3 when people randomly pull out guitars and start playing. My only real curiosity was if it was even possible to interact with inventory items - mainly foods. And, of course, being able to call (Telephone, Invite Over, Call Over) a Sim by clicking their face in the relationship panel. Would that also require spawning invisible controllers, or is that totally different from inventory interactions? Then again, "click face to call Sim" might be equally uninspiring.

That's a better way to phrase it: inventory interactions. If it's possible for TS2, it could really improve things. To me, TS3 isn't anything amazing, but some functions just make more sense: using/eating items from the inventory just by clicking on them, and being able to call a Sim by clicking their face in the Relationships panel.
If that couldn't work, it wouldn't be so bad settling for the "next best thing" (assuming choice #2 is also possible) which would involve clicking on your Sim to get the interactions, as long as the item is in their inventory.
But again, with TS2 slowly dying (?) would anyone even be interested in attempting such a project at this point?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to pick up a "non-grabbable" custom food item & set for sale?
|
on: 2009 October 13, 12:11:26

Yup, I was trying with the plate. Some foods I have just can't be picked up (they may have been pre-OFB, I have no idea), but they have all other clickable actions (put away as leftovers, eat, clean up, etc).
Oddly enough, it didn't even cross my mind that the creator could have borked the food *facepalm* I guess I was hoping it was something I could fix myself by using resources or other means. Edit: At least for making it sellable. My current workaround for the grabbing issue is to just have my Sim "make many" so the food will automatically go into the inventory, which I can then place into the Decra-Chill...and then curse because I can't set the bloody thing for sale.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / How to pick up a "non-grabbable" custom food item & set for sale?
|
on: 2009 October 13, 05:13:24

The 'MoveObjects On' cheat does not work in this case.
I have some custom cookable food for my game, and some of them can't be picked up by the Magic Hand of SimGoddess (me). Is there a way to edit these objects to enable them for picking up? Some custom foods can be grabbed just fine, and almost all of them show up in the "Make..." and "Make Many..." groups. This means that some of my custom foods can be made to sell, while others can't. If it is possible to enable grabbing, what values need to be edited? If it's a resource thing, what resources would need to be cloned from working items and replaced on the borked foods?
And, the second part of my question: what would I need to edit/replace in order to set some custom foods for sale? The issue is the same as above: some custom cookable foods can be set for sale, while others cannot.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Deleting Town, safe to copy these over? & How to transfer over house?

Thank you so much! I deleted the town and the Sims and custom house were still available to the hood. I had to make sure I was doing it right, so I appreciate the help I do have another, unrelated question, if you or anyone else can answer: When I move in a brand new Sim, they don't start right at the beginning of their current life stage - is that normal? For example, I moved in a brand new YA and the green bar was already a small portion of the way between YA and Adult...as if she aged 12 days between creating her and moving her in. Is that normal or a glitch?

I have to restart my town, and I'd just like to make sure I'm doing it right. I'll be pressing that little "Delete Town" button and will be copying over my Saved Sims folder, which contains two Sims I made...is that safe? I'd also like to save a house I customised and put it into the new town, but I'm not sure how to do this. It's fully furnished and I will move any Sims out beforehand. I know the house is in my Library somewhere, but there are multiple files in there, none of which are named in any identifiable manner. I'd really appreciate some assistance since I'm dumb as rocks when it comes to TS3

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Is this possible: "Portable" Guitar for Sims 2? Edible Fruit?
|

Except, instead of interacting with the item directly from Inventory (as you can in Sims 3), you can just click on your Sim and get the options: "Play Guitar" and "Play Guitar for Tips". Basically, it could work like the Cellphone or MP3 player, where you click your Sim to get the options; instead, a guitar appears in your Sim's hands and they start playing wherever they are.
As for edible fruit (not veggies, just fruit is good enough), would it be possible to create something in TS2 where you could click on your Sim and pick "Eat Apple" and they eat it? OR at least something that enables your Sim to eat fruit that has been removed from the inventory and placed on a counter or floor?
I'm still not used to Sims 3, but I'd love to see certain features made for Sims 2...if stuff like the above are even possible. And if people still make mod-type things for TS2 :p

Not sure why this is in the "lesser" hack section, since to me it is pretty much essential to playing the game and not having my computer kill itself. Basic specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz 4 GB RAM 512 mb nVidia 9600 GT, factory overclocked to something...can't remember/too lazy to check. Lots of hard drive space. My game was running at somewhere over 100 FPS during play, more when paused, and I didn't even check out CAS. Although, sometimes when in CAS, my sim's face would get all distorted and have blocks of colour and/or vertical stripes. I eventually noticed some soft, high-pitched whining/whirring from my machine and things just seemed off, so I googled for a bit and was convinced that the Sims 3 was overheating my 9600 GT. After more searching, I found this thread. Now I'm using 3Booter + Pescado's FPS Limiter and my computer is whine-free and stays solid at 30 FPS, so I'm no longer scared of anything overheating. I haven't checked CAS yet, but I was more concerned about my video card overheating while playing, anyway. Would it be possible to make the program have various frame-limit defaults depending on what the user prefers, i.e. 30, 40, 50, 60? Things just seem a bit "slow" at 30 FPS, though that may be a psychological effect from knowing I have a frame-limiter...? For now, I'm manually increasing it to 50 FPS by pressing F12. Would 60 FPS be a safe configuration based on my specs? EA needs to fix this somehow...haven't there been 3 patches already? I didn't even know Pescado's FPS limit existed - or that there was a FPS issue - until I found a post that said "I am using the fps limiter remade by Pescado just for the Sims 3 from MATY"

None of this really helps. The event is permanently ingrained into their want history trees and such wants will continue to manifest, well, basically forever.
Oh FML. He wasn't supposed to fall for or flirt with her, so it will bug me if the wants keep rolling wants and tries to hump her all the time. Since I spent time editing them all in CAS, I'll just clone them and nuke the hood then. Starting over sucks, but thanks for the help & valuable info, everyone =)

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Sim wants to marry someone whose memory has been deleted?
|
on: 2009 August 30, 06:53:11
|
Short version: I deleted the memories (and potential gossip) where these two sims fell in love (and cleared their crush/love flags), but they keep trying to interact romantically, and they still roll romantic wants (i.e Get Engaged to X)
Longer version: My idiot Sim decided to autonomously flirt with a girl friend, and I was too slow to catch it. As a result, he got his "Fall in Love" for the first time granted, and had hearts and crushes with her. I could have exited the game without saving, but apparently my brain was napping so I didn't. I used the InSim Relations Adjuster to clear the heart and crush flags, then I exited the game and fiddled around in SimPE. After "cascade"-deleting the love memories and invisible "LTA" things from both my Sim and the non-love, I went back into the game and used the Batbox to clear the gossip and attraction stuff. One reload later, I found that my Sim kept rolling romantic wants to do things with the girl (the biggest being the marriage and woohoo wants), and when she was around he kept trying to act romantic.
Why the crap is he still magically in love, and is there a way to actually fix this? If I can't get back the "Fall in Love for the First Time" want, that's fine; I just want him to stop wanting anything to do with this whore :/

I must have made a neighbour selectable or something else that caused things to break. I replaced the hood with a backup and played for a few RL days, trying a variety of regular in-game things to try and replicate the original problem, and the hack is back to working perfectly.

Fry me later for grave-digging, but I'm having an issue with this specific hack and I've removed every single piece of custom content to make sure it wasn't some conflict. I'd really appreciate some help with getting things to work again.
Despite having fully furnished apartments, my NPC neighbours keep coming out of their places at 6am to stand on their porch, hang around, return to their apartments, then come out again. This process repeats throughout the day, except when they leave for work or retire for the night at around 11pm. This hack -did- work perfectly when I first installed it, even with all my CC and other hacks. Neighbours remained in their homes unless they had to leave for work, and everything worked as described. At some point, it turned into this problem where they're always coming in and out and it's driving me batty (and lagging my game). I'm not sure what else to do: I've removed everything from the common area, made sure their apartments have everything they could possibly need, tried a reset/delete on them, and finally removed all my CC & hacks in case I'd added something new.
I'm really not sure why it was working before and suddenly stopped, but has anyone got any ideas/suggestions/solutions?

Is it fine to leave in Awesomeland hacks and Lord Darcy's stuff and still patch the game, or once patching do we have to take some out? Because I'm pretty sure there are some user-made fixes that the patch doesn't address.. So yeah, I'm curious if keeping other fixes will cause issues upon patchment.
