A vampire servo would be rather difficult to play though as they need sunlight to recharge so you can see the difficulties there.

I haven't tried the bed, but my Servos can recharge by sleeping on the couch at night.  So it's possible that they would recharge in a coffin as well.

Thanks Motoki.  That's the information I was digging for.  Researching it more I have found that while the software may not be completely compatible at this time the dual core is where the gaming industry is leaning and software will be more compliant within the next year.

Battlefield 2 (which is a highly graphic intensive EA product) has patches for the game to accommodate dual core users.  So the technology through EA is available.

I'm going for the dual core system and if I have issues between software and system I'll just have to raise the biggest rant I can to get an accommodating patch.  Wink

I want a new pooter  This one is crabby and old, and keeps being hijacked by my rotten kids

Sounds extreme but in my house there is a pc for me, my beau and my son which all stemmed from my selfishness of my computer, hands off sort of thing.  I do a lot of graphic work on mine as well as my Sims hobby and am very selfish about it.  I had bought my son a base computer years ago that was just to run his games.  When my beau moved in I converted my Marine into a gamer with Call of Duty and other battle type games.  He went from not knowing anything to quite the gaming guru in less than 2 years.  He never minded sharing with my son because neither of them are on as much as I am, but he wanted a better machine and went for it, so we just bought a bigger desk for them to accommodate the second station and they have their side of the room and I have mine.  I keep all the pcs in the same room more to monitor my son and so that I can throw popcorn if the mood ever arises.

Computers are so cheap and getting cheaper all the time with the growing technology.  If you have your mouse, keyboard and monitor and only need the station only you can get something more than decent for $500 and then upgrade your graphics and memory.

I know the dual core is the better one of the two, and wi;; be great for future gaming.  I am wondering about it's compatibility with Sims 2.  I've seen a few posts that lead me to think the Sims 2 software does not run well with it.
79  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / New PC Advice on: 2006 March 06, 02:40:26
I am getting ready to purchase a new computer to run my graphics applications, Sims 2 and other applications.  My boyfriend purchased the following computer to run his applications and Battlefield 2.  I would like to get a computer that I would not have to upgrade for quite sometime but is easy to upgrade when I'm ready but am weary of a dual core processor for Sims 2.

The computer I'd like to get is a:

HP a1350n
Athlon 64 X2 (T) 4200+ 2.2 GHz
250 GB HD
1 GB RAM (will upgrade to 2)
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 (will upgrade to x1600)

Another option is the:

HP a1340n
Intel Pentium 4 processor 640 with HT Technology (3.2GHz)
250 GB HD
1 GB RAM (will upgrade to 2 GB)
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 graphics (will upgrade to x1600)

The only difference is the the processors and that the a1350n can be upgraded to 4 GB RAM and the a1340n maxes at 2.

I know that I could build my own, but neither have the patience nor the time.  Any advice between the two processors leaning towards how they would work with the Sims 2, since I know that they will be fine for my other applications would be appreciated.

Working great for me as well with all options.
81  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Need lesson in CPU on: 2006 February 03, 20:23:14
My boyfriend just purchased his gaming computer for Battlefield 2, which is an extrememly graphic intensive game.

For $800 (including shipping) he purchased from HP a computer with:

A1350N with a AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core 4200 2.2 GHZ CPU
1 GB RAM (capable of 2 GB)
250 Harddrive
integrated card

He added on once he got the pc in:

430 watt power supply unit - $70
NVIDIA 7800GTX 256 MB PCI-E - $350

So for $1220 his game now runs max settings at 80 frames per sec, which is low for a game like the Sims but better than the average Battlefield user who only gets 40-50 fps because of the intense graphics of the game.

The HP was on sale 2-3 weeks ago on their site.  And he went from a bitch fest everytime he played his game to joyful and excited clapping.  Wink

You can always break a pc down even more and build things cheaper, but if you do not want the hassle of doing so then I would recommend something like what he did.
82  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Clarification - Maxis terrain paints on: 2006 January 27, 18:14:20
I have permanently disabled my custom terrains with the Clean Installer because I build and upload so much.  The older lots that had them I know I can never upload again, but I don't want to upload anything with custom terrains no matter how pretty they are.

If you do a lot of downloading you can use the Clean Installer to disabling the custom terrains from installing to your game.  I and many others would recommend that if you see a must have lot with custom terrains to disable them during the install.

It may or may not be, but in the past I have found those type of plugins to be spyware related.  (And to say it before JM does...) Not that they don't spy on every move we as it is.

84  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Technical question - removing custom content on: 2006 January 24, 04:12:36
If you are using Clean Installer and are reading the pink files as duplicate files sometimes that is not always the case.  Two simple ways of checling to see if it is indeed a mesh or cc is to click the gray header bar titled "name" which will sort the files by their name and then you can easily see what is truly a duplicate and what is not.  Also when you click a fiel name usually a thumbnail will pop up.  Mesh files to my knowledge do not have thumbnails.  (I could be remembering that wrong, it's been a while since I've cleaned my folder)

What makes this belong in Made Up Animals?

Ummmm, maybe because it has Sim selves in a game story?  Not really different from the MATY hood. What's your deal radiophonic?
86  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Silly Sims music video on: 2006 January 22, 02:11:05
That was awesome and very well done.  I'm always impressed with a well done Sims movie.

I don't take meds. I think it was because I had 10 slurpees that day. TO much sugar went to my head

I think I read somewhere that 10 slurpees were the equivalent of crack...   Undecided

You can do most all the things you asked for on your own with just a little work.  Instead of taking your whole downloads folder out of the Sims 2 folder you can:

1.  Disable object recolors, objects and hacks with the Clean Installer

2. & 3.  From CAS get the Sims that you want in the house and move them in (if the money is an issue move them to a blank lot long enough to adjust their funds and then move them back to the Sim bin)  Doing it this way will be assured that they have no broken memories.  If you want them to have certain jobs etc. you can edit those with debug mode.

4. Would require editting memories with SimPE before uploading.

5.  Same as #4

6.  Same as #1

7.  Not necessary if you have made a clean lot from the beginning.

Have the problem uploads been from the same site or random sites?
90  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Yey!!! My brother is now a newly-converted TS2 freak! on: 2006 January 05, 16:52:18
I converted my son to the game when he was 7 with TS1.  I had lost interest in the game and he ended up with all the EPs.  When Sims 2 came out I was brought back to "the cult".

The only time my beau is interested is when I get a new sexy outfit for a Sim.  I've always said I was a mouse potato and he was a couch potato.  My beau was never a gamer, but I converted him to a gaming with games like Battlefield and Call of Duty.  Since I hold no interest in those types of games I now understand more the gaming gap when he tries to "tell me something funny" that happened in his game and just save my funny stories for my son.

92  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Stolen Newspapers on: 2006 January 03, 04:34:56
Also if you are using the gnomes for their fun value and not the Feng Shui then the flamingos work just as fast as the gnomes for getting the fun levels up and have the added bonus of being so ugly no one wants to steal them.  They are also great because they are a deal at only $12 simoleons.
93  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building Tutorials and/or Advice? on: 2005 December 31, 17:49:46
I just skimmed the thread so I do not know if this has been suggested, but one thing I do when building is to buy furniture and place them while building the room to make sure my scale and the look I'm trying for is right.  I just move the furniture room to room and then delete them when I'm done.

Two rules: do all computer assembly naked, to minimize static electricity, and use beer as coolant. Or possibly vodka -- haven't tested that yet.

Nakedness?  Vodka?  You don't need a computer with those items you silly, you need a Twister mat.  Shocked
98  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: File Management - renaming files, meshes and FBVFOS on: 2005 December 12, 22:28:16
When I organized my download folder (post NL) I used the Sims Clean Installer.  Within the program I sorted items by description (i.e objects, hacks, genetics, etc) clicked the first sorted item, held the shift key and clicked the last in that group.  Everything in between would autmoatically highlight, then I right clicked the group, selected "Move to" and then choose new and names the folder.  It was actually a lot quicker and not as painful than I thought it would be.  What I ended up with in the end were the no description items which I found out to be meshes and Sims.

List of my subfolders:

Clothing
Costume MakeUp
Eyebrows
Eyes
Floors
Glasses_Earrings
Hacks Hair Make-up
Object Recolors
Objects
Package Files
Terrains
Walls
Saved Sims (for skins)

Now whenever I install an item, I just use the select subfolder to install to option so it remains neat and organized.
99  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A Christmas song to warm JM's heart on: 2005 December 07, 15:21:51
LOL Zolt.  I actually have this on my IPod.  It's not Christamas to me until I hear this one song.  It makes me laugh everytime.  The local radio stations have been playing it less and less every year, so I took it upon myself to find and save for when I was ready for the Christmas mood to hit.  My other Christmas song is a rock ballad complete with electric guitars by an orchestra. (I can't remember the name, but it's awesome in my book.)

My other "self tradition" is watching Scrooge with Albert Finney.  (I usually save that one for the midnight wrapping binge on Christmas Eve.
