76  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Career Outfit on: 2006 January 08, 23:40:08
That's been in since the base game, along with those camo outfits with weird suspenders and the two trench coats, for guys, one with no shirt and one with a bunny on the shirt.
77  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Programmable Sleep Clock v3.0 on: 2006 January 08, 23:20:22
I thought you were retired, JM. A true warrior never retires, or did they make you an offer you couldn't refuse?
78  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The Case of the Vanishing Tombstone on: 2006 January 08, 22:34:36
One would hope. But there's probably some random detritus also stuck in a shredded file.

It's definitely not fixable, short of copying from a back up.
79  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Why is my sim crying? on: 2006 January 07, 01:29:50
I've also noticed that when you have a very neat sim in a house, more plumbing seems to break!
Neat sims compulsively flush. Flushing (rather than lack of flushing) causes breakage.

Well that's stupid. Maxis seems to have failed quite a few Int checks . . .
80  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: faceless guy on: 2006 January 07, 01:01:36
Maybe it happens if you use the Inteenimator?
Lord Almighty.  Is there nothing you people will NOT blame on InTeen here?  I forgot to mention in the release notes that InTeen causes world hunger, pestilence, and kills small puppies.

Heh. I haven't seen where someone's claimed it does that stuff. Pescado just says it's Non-Awesome.
81  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New Open for Busioness Video 1/05/05 on: 2006 January 07, 00:36:11
ROBOTS! YAY!

I've wanted robots for ages. Robots are one of my favorite things. Ever. Robot stories, pictures of robots, reports on robots, games with robots, whatever. Happy now.

If it's not bugtastic, I'll be getting it. Little robots that go crazy and evil, big robots that do yet-to-be-revealed stuff . . . Whee! If the robots are controllable sim type things, I'll be even happier.
82  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Lot Sync Timer: All BlueSoups Suck Edition on: 2006 January 07, 00:02:35
Probably not the greatest idea to put a lot timer in someone's inventory. I suggest that, if you try it, do it with a family you don't have any particular attachement to. I know that sticking objects that have relationships with other objects on the lot (graves, beds) in the inventory can result in small explosions and general weirdness.
83  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing all my downloaded hair... Any advice on how to keep my sanity? on: 2006 January 06, 23:37:56
Don't be afraid of SimPE. It keeps back ups, and as long as you keep your own back ups there's nothing you can screw up so badly a fresh install won't fix. Messing with hair files will, at most, cause weirdness with said files. Sim parts (hair, clothes, skins, etc.) in general will usually just not show up if it gets screwed up. Editing in SimPE is rather more taxing on your patience than your technical skills, generally speaking.

This particular excersize, messing with the "hairtone" string, is actually quite easy. Dewshine's post, here should cover it; just scroll down to the first post with pictures in it, should show you what you need to do.

It would be much, much easier on everyone if the creator just did this when they made the file, because it's fairly simple but also rather tedious to do for a lot and all at once. Much easier for just one person to do it, rather than 1000.
84  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Name your top 5 Must Haves.... on: 2005 December 31, 18:53:32
1. Critical fixes
2. Director's cut
3. Teleporter Shrub
4. Crammyboy's Fish Pillows
5. TwoJeffs Pregnancy for All Genders

Okay, so the first two are actually a bunch of seperate items, but I would be afraid to play the game without all the critical fixes. The most important non-critical fix out of the Director's cut is probably Macrotastics and accessories.
85  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Scorched Earth Challenge on: 2005 December 31, 18:38:30
Deleting objects.package:
Game FUBAR'd without even running it. Is there any method faster than that?

Maxis supported behaviors only. Mucking about with the game files is definitely not on that list.
86  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Graphics Glitches driving me buggy on: 2005 December 30, 18:35:03
When it comes to drivers, I follow an "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" principle. Despite the fact that people tell you to always upgrade to the newest drivers....don't do this unless you actually have a problem. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This is your philosophy on everything, isn't it? Drivers, SimPE, printers . . . your bunker must be an absolute nest of ancient technology.
87  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Requests? on: 2005 December 27, 17:39:21
My theory is that they copied both the Pleasure and Grilled Cheese aspirations off the Family aspiration, and forgot to switch off the thought bubbles.
88  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: agecons.pkg editing? on: 2005 December 27, 17:38:12
As it stands, the current age-lengths are more balanced towards "how interesting is this", than "how realistic is this". Of course, the result is that pregnancy drags out to an elephantine length.

The standard game benchmark. Excessive realism leads to bad things. And not fun exploding type things, but "argh! there's a small monkey jabbing my eyes out with a rusty spork!" type things. To see an excellent demonstration of this, play GURPS. With all the optional rules. And calculate all food, water, and bathroom usage requirements. Abstraction can be a very, very good thing.

And it's still possible to do the 10 kids thing. I think they're assuming that you use elixir of life, but with a 10% chance of twins, on average a pregnancy will result in 1.1 kids. The maximum number of pregnancies a sim can have is 9, if they're pregnant basically constantly and don't use the elixir. So the average number of kids such a sim will have is 9.9, so a given sim has a decent chance of making the 10 kids goal. If you're insane and obsessed.
89  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Recolors for Baby Controller on: 2005 December 24, 22:23:50
That would be bad. You'd need a new GUID and stuff, and the controller uses hardcoded GUIDs referenced externally by other controllers. I'll look into the possibility of a morphing controller, though.

Could you call it the Mighty Morphin' Baby Controller?
90  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Recolors for Toilet Paper in Bathroom Uses You on: 2005 December 22, 22:26:24
Maybe a double headed smiley face? That would be cheerful *and* creepy. But you know what would be really cool? The death star. The Emperor commands you to change that diaper!
91  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My video's glitching out... help! on: 2005 December 21, 22:23:43
You know, you don't need a jet engine level fan if you use near frozen booze as a coolant. Beer works well, and although I'd have to check, I would guess that hard liquor works even better, since alcohol has a lower freezing temperature than water. I think.

Of course, to really maximize your cooling power, you'd best go with a setup like this.
92  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Crammyboye Archives / Re: Reduced Furious Walkby Fix on: 2005 December 21, 22:18:08
I've been getting some particularly grouchy neighbours who walk by and steal the newspaper and kick over the trash can for no reason at all.  One of them is a friend of my Sim, and not furious with anyone, so it's really a piss-off.  But also kind of entertaining (not to mention I don't have to worry about my Sim recycling the newspaper).

You mean . . . you have Pescado in your neighborhood? Grin That's all he does in my game. That, and play with small children. He likes them for some reason.

Has anyone noticed that people seem to be going out of their way to thank people since the new news box thing went up?
93  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NL Installation Advice Needed on: 2005 December 21, 22:01:44
Waiting is definitely worth it. Definitely. Because then you know about the little "surprises" in the game. Like how it explodes when Mrs. Crumplebottom gets vampirified.

Also, something I've been wondering about. I took out my hacks and downloads folder when I installed NL, on reputable advice. Hypothetically speaking, if one has only NL compliant content installed, is it okay to leave the downloads folder in, or is there some inherent value to having a clean download folder on install of an EP?
94  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: No Puddle Rage on: 2005 December 21, 21:56:14
Maybe they wanted the gardener dead (I need to get LOADS of posts, if ur wonderin, but failin miserably)?

Why? The only reward you get for massive post counts is ripped lips and alliterative insults.

I saw the yellow pee hack once. I seem to remember something about Inge being involved, helping the person with how to clone an object. Turned pee into an entirely seperate thing, which would probably explain why NL broke it. Not an elegant hack.

I had a funny one.  At a Sorority, the Cow threw a balloon at a sister.  No one cleaned it up--it was on the lawn.  A different sister comes home from a date and goes straight over to the puddle to clean it up and gets furious at---the gardener??? because it was on the grass I guess--the gardner wasn't even there that day.  Go figure.

How'd you get your sims to clean up a puddle on the grass? I thought they weren't supposed to do that.

There's some serious weirdness in the furious system. That may turn into a project one of these days. Not that I don't have enough. But my Novel in a Month insanity will be over on the 31st, and then I'll need something equally random to occupy my time. And I've been meaning to learn Simantics for ages. Right after I learn Java . . . and finish my conlang . . . and write the three zillion other novels I've worked on at various times . . . and take over the world . . . and get back into martial arts . . . and . . . yeah. Yay for being an INTP.
95  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Different Dancing on: 2005 December 21, 21:43:06
Don Lothario does this. And in my game, since I have Crammyboy's nudist hack, he does it naked. It's . . . um . . . interesting. But he's a good test sim, if you haven't messed with Pleasantview.

Kids "dance perfectly well"? They flail about like loons. I think the only reason they don't fall down is because they're short. Center of gravity is lower.

Deep wackiness going on in the dancing changes introduced by Nightlife. It's cool that there's more interesting stuff going on, but then there's things like how Smustle raises your social even when done alone, and teens not being able to dance with adults. Not cool.
96  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Tutorial: How to Check Polygon Counts of Objects on: 2005 December 21, 21:38:20
Variousimmers? Home of Miss Ren "Polygon Counts Don't Matter!" tech? Why should we expect anything less? </uncalled for sarcasm>

There's got to be someone here who does meshes. Heck, I've abused myself with it in my spare time. 'twas a spline program, so I deeply fear the results of trying to convert something into a polygon format. Hmm. I think I remember some sort of toilet paper art object created for some demented lunatics realism purposes.

What we need is some sort of MP Spanish Inquistion type force to beat people who make massive meshes with pillows. It's all in the texture, people! There's an artistry in a simple mesh. A lost art, like tight coding and spell checking, but an art none the less.  </uncalled for rant>

Most awesome. Most awesome indeed. No more idiocy with the work out bit.

Yet another reason to always check syberspunk's stuff whenever I'm over at MTS2. Not like the pictures aren't enough, of course.  Grin
98  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Lot Sync Timer: All BlueSoups Suck Edition on: 2005 December 20, 13:51:39
This is pretty dang awesome.

Basically, it tells you how long you've been playing each lot, so you don't have to keep notes to stay in time sync. This is a very good thing for those of us with serious note taking issues. It's basically an auto note taker. If you want to keep your neighborhoods time sync-ified, this is very important, because otherwise you're liable to forget to note down day/play an extra day/ etc. and before you know it someone's kids are older than them.

It's for lazy people, really. Or those who can't be bothered by little pieces of paper.
99  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Monitor Screen Has Gone All Green on: 2005 December 19, 18:48:35
The space occupied is not such a big deal, since you gain a surface: LCD monitors are too thin to stack things on top of, but a CRT monitor is hefty enough that your deskspace can be reclaimed by stacking objects on top of the monitor. Get one that is nice and blocky, not one of those crappy "curvy" ones.

Wow. Now I know why JMPescado doesn't leave is bunker. He can't get past the massive piles of stuff. I have a sudden vision of a small rainforest growing amongst computers and military equipment.

Anywhere mysterious explosions would be unnerving is good. People never expect the next Dr. Evil to be living in a ghetto. ;-D
