476  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Problem with Satisfying Sibling/Sim Goes to College Want on: 2006 October 10, 23:21:56
Hrm... sometimes necromancy isn't so bad, eh?

magicmoon, why didn't you mention that in the first place? Or was this something you newly discovered since your first post in this thread?

1) Does this "empty" lot have to be a "new" lot i.e. one that has never been used before? Or... as implied by ElviraGoth, I can create create an empty lot (literally empty that is devoid of playables, dormies, or even a building) and I can use (AND re-use) this lot to satisfy the "Sim Went to College" want?

2) Does this also result in the YA transition "special" camera/movie event thingie, with the parents all the time? Or does that always have to be an entirely new i.e. never been lived in/moved in lot?

In other words, can I re-use the lot to get the special movie event thingies all the time?

It's something I *thought* might work earlier, but it wasn't until lately that I have been able to confirm it.

What you have listed in #1 (empty lot devoid of playables) is just fine, as long as you don't have inteenimator. Inteen is made to keep teens at the teen age at residential lots on campus so that a child raised on campus doesn't enter college automatically as soon as they become a teen.

If you do have Inteen, an empty lot is still ok as long as it is classified as a dorm when you place the lot. (Use boolprop changeLotZoning dorm)

You can reuse this "initial" dorm as long as you have moved all playables out to another lot before sending another teen to college moving another teen into the lot. The key is putting them on a lot (which is a dorm if you have inteen) devoid of playables. If you have the special event camera on then you will see the parent say goodbye. If not, you will still seen the teen age into YA. You miss this event if you "combine households" and when you miss the event, you don't get the memories.
477  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Problem with Satisfying Sibling/Sim Goes to College Want on: 2006 October 10, 22:37:50
Yep. That's the way I do it. You have to if you are interested in fulfilling all the "go to college" wants.
478  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Business Controller: Business Runs YOU! on: 2006 October 10, 21:30:52
I thought I tried all that, but I'll try again when I load the game. I think the problem comes if the camera is a little "pulled back" from the lot so that you can see the whole thing at once. Then you click on the employee, but it doens't actually "zoom in", just kinda centers the camera.
479  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Problem with Satisfying Sibling/Sim Goes to College Want on: 2006 October 10, 21:24:41
1. Lock the wants.
2. Send teen to college. Put into a new dorm which does not have any of your playables in it. (You can send them to a different dorm or residential housing later)

You have to actually leave the home lot and physically place your teen into a dorm so that they spin and "grow up". Then the want will be satisfied. That is why you have to use a dorm that doesn't have any of your playables in it yet. If you "combine households" they don't do the proper spin thing that seems to "kick in" fulfilling the wants.

When you return to the family lot you'll see that the parents no longer have the want as it was satisfied. If they still have the locked want, then you probably didn't put your teen into an unused dorm. (The dorm can been used previously, it just can't have any of your playables in it at the time you put the teen into college).

I'm having trouble with some employees that are assigned crafting tasks.  I'll see an employee that is supposed to be crafting standing in front of their bench instead of working. They will have the red comfort icon in their bubble. Finally I'll make them selectable. Generally their comfort and energy will be at zero (The halfway mark on the bar), but their other stats will be in excellent shape. They will have 2 items in their queue; their crafting station and BRU, which when hovered over says "be taken by break".  These 2 queue items will rapidly flip back and forth between each other. All the while the employee just stands there.

I have 2 expresso machines, a gnome, a sofa, food, and BUY available to the employees. These items are not being blocked when the glitch is happening. Cancelling all the icons and issuing an order to caffinate will temporarily stop the problem, but unless I manually fix all of their needs, the BRU controller takes back over and puts them back into the loop.

I lost track of one employee for awhile and when I found him he was standing still in a puddle of his own pee. Evidently he had been stuck in the loop for quite awhile. I've been sending these employees home and then recalling them when they go into the loop, but they shouldn't be going into a loop in the first place.

By the way, is there anything I can click on that will zoom me to a missing employee? Maybe I could have saved my sim the embarassment of peeing on himself in front of customers if I could have found where he was.

I just now downloaded the latest BRU, so if this problem has already been addressed, I apologize.

EDIT: Another question. I hired several employees for crafting that had no badges. But soon one employee (Brandi L) was demanding $80 an hour for her QC to be 17-19%, while her colleagues were getting $15 with QC 1-2%.  This was a new neighborhood. In a previous neighborhood I had made that sim a manager, but I can't see how she could remember that from a deleted neighborhood. So what's her problem? BTW, her and the owner are best friends, so it isn't because they don't get along.
481  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Dormies go home at 2am? on: 2006 October 10, 19:11:41
Elevators = Screwed up dorms. Why didn't I think of that? It makes perfect Maxislogical sense.
482  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Replacement Remote Business Payout Calculation on: 2006 October 09, 21:25:21
To avoid Necromancy, I've copied a few quotes from an earlier thread:

Replacement Remote Business Payout Calculation
This fix will replace the remote business payout calculation code. The code that shipped with OFB does not work like the strategy guide says it should. The replacement code is much closer to what I believe Maxis had originally intended. Now when your Sim takes a day off, his business will still make money. Requires the Open For Business expansion pack.

these fixes are from http://www.simwardrobe.com/

And JMP's answer:

That's interesting. When *I* looked at it, it looked like it was mostly abstracted to LUAs. And thus untouchable. I wonder if it conflicts with anti-decay.

So my question is this. Did a MATY version of this get done with "remote business fix", "anti business decay" or perhaps another mod I am unaware of?

If not, is anyone using the SW mod in conjunction with MATY mods successfully?
483  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Dormies go home at 2am? on: 2006 October 08, 22:45:46
I'll try it without hacks in a moment. This started after installing OFB.
484  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Dormies go home at 2am? on: 2006 October 08, 21:40:36
My game is patched and I updated all the MATY mods and checked the few remaining mods to see if they needed updated.

any hack about "auto answare @ the phone for dormies ?" i wonder why only my character have to reply on a dorm for 10 students ?
and also, i notice that the dormies (and townies) didn't use the Expresso Machine... any hack to fix it ?

Yeah, I noticed that no one except my playable sims answer the phone anymore. And I guess you're right on the expresso too. I haven't seen anyone using it autonomously either lately.

I don't like the dormies leaving the lot because it refreshes them when they come back. It's defeating the whole reason for having nouniprotect. No one is peeing themselves or passing out anymore!
485  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Dormies go home at 2am? on: 2006 October 08, 19:33:59
I looked around and didn't find anything to address this issue. I've just recently installed OFB and so I am still finding updates to fix problems.

Anyway, this is happening in a new dorm in a new neighborhood. I didn't have this problem in my old neighborhood.

I took a Maxis dorm and modified it to give it elevators instead of stairs. Then I moved in a newly created YA.

Every night at 2am, all of the dormies say goodbye, gotta go, it's getting late, etc. just like visitors normally do. Then they all leave the lot, but immediately return. Why is it doing this and how do I make it stop?

486  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Give Me Nipple Recommendations or...Don't, I Guess on: 2006 October 06, 20:02:38
I've been using these in my game forever. The females have normal looking boobs and pubic hair. The males have moderate body, arm and leg hair as well as pubic hair. I finish the look with Crammyboy's cock, which is optional. They will have no "male parts" if you don't add it, just hair.

These skins are default and overwrite the Maxis ones, but are the same shade as Maxis, that is,  they don't have the weird shine and stuff you were talking about.

http://www.sexysims2.com/showthread.php?t=71168

Oh, and because they are default skins, they have the same genetics as Maxis skins. In other words, custom skins are usually dominate so if you have a sim with a custom skin, and one with a Maxis skin, the custom one will most likely be passed to the kids. These behave as normal Maxis skins and all of your sims that you already have that have Maxis skins will sport the new look until you remove these files from your Downloads.
487  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hurray! Let joy be unconfined. My cheese-chewing cretin is PermaPlat on: 2006 October 06, 19:56:19
I wasn't sure if it could even be done. Did you prolong their life by using elixers along the way or were they able to fulfill their LTW with a normal sim lifespan?
488  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Business Controller: Business Runs YOU! on: 2006 October 06, 19:54:30
So is there any way to tell a lazy sim from an active one before you hire them? After I saw your post (and already have an active sim who is a stellar employee) I hired a guy with 6 body points, assuming that no one with so few skill points would have put most of it into body unless they were active. I was wrong. I told him to put on a uniform and got the "lazy spin". So I fired him. Probably the first person ever fired for dressing lazily.
489  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Bathroom Controller: In Soviet Russia, Bathroom Uses You! on: 2006 October 06, 18:46:38
What am I doing wrong?

I rented a two story Uni house for my YA. The door leading upstairs is locked for all except household (Maxis door lock). The upstairs bath has a toilet and tub/shower combo. The downstairs bath has a toilet only. Both bathrooms have BUY. The upstairs buy is set to reject visitors, seek on. The downstairs bath has seek off, reject visitors.

The problem comes in with the YA who lives there. When he has to go to the bathroom, it usually pulls him into the downstairs bath, which has a toilet only. Then it spits him back out instead of sending him to the upstairs shower. After a few seconds, the BUY pulls him into the downstairs bath again because his hygeine is low. Then it just spits him back out again, and keeps repeating this sequence.

In other households, when one family member finishes using the toilet and the shower is in use, or blocked, or there isn't one in that particular bathroom, the controller always sends them to another bathroom to finish their needs. So why won't it do it for this house? Is it because of the locked door?

I know I can add a shower to the downstairs bath to solve the problem, but I enlarged the bedroom to accomodate a double bed, which made the bathroom smaller. Besides, I just wanted to use the downstairs bath for visitors.
490  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do I promote an Employee? on: 2006 October 01, 19:25:30
Ok. I went home and then the servo started working. Thanks folks.
491  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do I promote an Employee? on: 2006 October 01, 14:30:55
OK. So I got it where I can promote the employee.  Thank you!

But now....I just made my first servo. But it just sits there. I can't click on it or anything. So finally I sold it. But I know there is a way to activate it. Is that some hidden secret too? I can turn on all of the other types of bots I've made so far.
492  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Bathroom Controller: In Soviet Russia, Bathroom Uses You! on: 2006 October 01, 14:18:31
The options are correct. I've checked several times. I'll find another lot with his and her baths and see if it behaves better over there.
493  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do I promote an Employee? on: 2006 October 01, 12:05:34
Is manager the only position available for promotion? Why would my owner want to promote a new employee with no skills, no badges, and no experience to manager? Must be another one of Maxis' great ideas.

So the score of 5 that is needed, I take it that the employee is the one that needs the score?

EDIT: I am using that mod
494  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / How do I promote an Employee? on: 2006 October 01, 11:54:09
Ok. Point and laugh if you have to. I just got OFB and am trying to figure out a few basics that Maxis either assumed I should know instinctively, or they want me to buy the Prima Guide.

I started my first comm lot business, worked up to hiring an employee, then finally a 2nd one. Now the owner rolled the want to promote the employee that is doing the cashier work. I can't find a place to do that. I tried increasing her salary, but that didn't satisfy the want. I tried making her exchange jobs with the salesman, but that didn't do it.

I've clicked on pictures and icons and am going nuts trying to figure this one out. Do I have to be off lot to do it? Do I have to learn something special or get a certain badge or perk? What positions are even available for them to be promoted to?

I appreciate anyone who is nice enough to help.
495  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Bathroom Controller: In Soviet Russia, Bathroom Uses You! on: 2006 October 01, 11:40:53
I set up a business on a comm lot with 2 bathrooms, one male and one female. Since I set the BUY appropriately, I used normal doors. The females could use either bathroom, but the males could use neither. Then I rechecked the configuration to make sure it was correct, then installed male and female bathroom doors. After that, the females could use the female bathroom, but the males could use neither bathroom.

So I made a male selectable, and tried to get him to manually enter the bathroom. He couldn't do it. I replaced the bathroom, gender-specific door with a regular one, and he still couldn't use it. Finally, I made a unisex bathroom and now everyone can pee.

Can you check to see if you got the male/female part mixed up? "Reject females" appears to actually reject males.
496  Awesomeware / Playsets & Toys / Re: Hat Stands For Thinking Caps & Noodlesoothers on: 2006 September 30, 13:00:20
I notice that these stands are a little less reliable with sims who are part of a 3 bolt couple.

This is what I mean...Couples who have 3 bolts for each other want to be near their love at all times. So you tell the guy to skillinate. Fine, he puts on the hat, grabs a book, then walks to the far end of the lot where his wife is having a snack so that he can sit by her. Trouble is when he gets done skilling he is almost as likely to put it on a nearby counter as he was before we got the great hat stands, probably because the hat stand is so far away now.

However, sims who read in the same or nearby room as the hatstand usually use it, so all in all, it is still a much better solution than before.
497  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Bathroom Controller: In Soviet Russia, Bathroom Uses You! on: 2006 September 24, 21:57:50
I was getting ready to load in my game. I usually check MATY first for updates. Will you be uploading the new BUY soon?
498  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Invisible Visitors (With Pic) on: 2006 September 22, 22:23:18
Well, the dorm door fix will not fix my original problem. At least I doubt it. The dormies affected were like ghosts. I could see through them and interact with them. But the original problem, the sims were totally invisible and although they could interact with my sims, they can't be clicked on for my sims to start an interaction.

Maybe it is some sort of leftover Maxis code that is running around because the problem seems somewhat common, but yet the Boss hasn't found out the reason nor made an awesome fix for it.

I'll be installing OFB this weekend so I expect to see even more of this behavior in the future.
499  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Invisible Visitors (With Pic) on: 2006 September 22, 03:34:42
Since I'm not the only one who has been having difficulties with invisible or partially invisible sims, I thought I would risk necromancy to reveal what I have discovered.

I noticed that the invisible sims were on Uni lots more than anywhere else. Yesterday I started a new neighborhood and dorm and almost immediately started seeing sims who were partially invisible...like ghosts...you can see who they are, but also through them. I deleted a dormie, then another, then soon another because of this invisibility. Then one dormie did it for the 2nd time. So I started following her around to see if I could find out what she is doing when she transitions.

Soon I saw her go into her dorm room. Just as the door starts to shut, I see her fade out. When she left her room later she was in the ghost looking state. I watched other dormies and found that they also were coming out of their rooms like this.

Awhile back at MTS2 I downloaded a recolor of the Myne door. It was an invisible recolor. I did it because Maxis made their dorms where the Myne doors are in the way and you can't see what is going on in the rooms behind them, where your sims actually are. This way I could see through the doors and keep an eye on the simmies.

I noticed that the sims comming out of the invisible recolored doors were in the ghost state whereas the doors that I didn't change color (because they weren't in my way) the sims were coming out normal. I recolored all the Myne doors back to the original Maxis colors and the sim invisibility problem seems to be cured. I've played an additional 3 Sim days without invisible dormies.

When I say "recolored" above, I mean from within the game using the color tool.

So am I crazy or is it really possible for someone to color a Maxis object invisible, and end up making the sims who use it invisible too? This was a Maxis recolor I downloaded, not a cloned door.

Well, I meant total. Windows and Sims both running.
