Yes that is what you do. It ignores the Indie Stone Story Mode driver as it provides its own notifications but it does show Awesome Story Mode and EAxis Story Mode notifications.
452  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.3 Released on: 2009 August 04, 18:11:16
Can somebody confirm that EA lied about scrapping the impact of specific meals on offsprings' genders but instead just scrapped the option to cook specific meals entirely? After patching my sims can't cook anything but generic meals, no apple pan cakes or apple whatsoever anymore...

I am making apple pancakes just fine post patch.

In fact, one of my sims autonomously made flame fruit pancakes with the flame fruit I kept in his inventory to get the warm and fuzzy moodlet.  Roll Eyes
453  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: I CANNOT install the new patch (1.3) UPDATE: skuversion.txt on: 2009 August 04, 18:08:34
Can someone help me!! I having problems with this stupid patch...This is what I've done so far:C
I got the updated to 1.0.631.00002 from 1.00.615, changed the sku value in the registry from 7 to 2, and I got the "1.3 Worldwide, from original Retail (1.3 from 1.0.631)" patch to start but here starts my problem...I get to about 19-22% completed but it then stops and states "update error: invalid file found" is the problem, so I check the patch log and its this file:
"Applying DFC Update for 'Game\Bin\HelpPages\CZE_CZ\Help_Updates.html'  Error: err0031 - Invalid file found

Is there a way to fix this or bypass this file and others like it because i dont know why a help_update webpage in Ckech is causing me so much problems...if anyone can help, I appreciated it!! Grin

Here are all the help pages for the 1.0.631.00002 Worldwide version. Put them in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\HelpPages

If it still complains about some other file try the file posted here http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,16198.0.html as it has backups of the most common bin files.
454  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 04, 17:58:23
There is no detailed documentation on it that I am aware of. I've talked with Pescado and some of the other testers about it and various features. There's a good explanation of the homeless thing that Simius wrote up earlier in this thread.

It does a lot of things but I can't exactly recall them all in specifics off the top of my head. It's pretty obvious what's going on if you turn the notifications on though.

The main thing is that things that happen have to make sense and have a reason. Even the romantic pairings are not totally random as there's a matching algorithm. Also many of the events you can actually go and watch them occurring.

It's kind of hard (at least for me) to explain all the differences other than to just generally explain the differences in approach to events but I feel like it's easier to just try it out and see the differences.

I'm sure someone at some point who is meticulous and detailed and better at explaining things than I will put a bunch of info up on the wiki, but as of yet I do not believe there is such documentation.
455  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 04, 17:19:09
Basically it just runs the damned town. Why do people need a dissertation about it? It's easy enough to turn off of to switch back and forth between it and Indie Stone. Just try it out or don't.

I didn't see EA exhaustively documenting every single minute feature that their story mode does.
456  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Weird Crash --- can't find any sort of solution. on: 2009 August 04, 17:03:33
I've already done that, too :/ My game works fine with all my cc, and without it, but when I download the awesome mod (with or without cc) my game no longer works.

You are telling me your game runs fine w/o awesomemod, with awesomemod and no other mods or custom content whatsoever it doesn't work?

Did you take everything else out of your mods folder and also yank out the entire My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/ folder? You can't just take out the downloads because those are only backups. It stores them in the DCCache and backups in the DCBackup etc.

It also is doing this even if you try to start a new game and not restore a save?

You are using the latest version of Awesomemod? (It's updated a lot) Have definitely patched your game to 1.3 and the patching was successful? I know you said you got the patch but just clarifying.

If that truly is the case then there must be something wrong with your configuration because it's working for us and we cannot reproduce that.
457  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 04, 16:03:08
I like the logic of the bottom up approach, but are the sims actually capable of making good money and succeeding?  If the end result is that all sims end up going from houses to apartment to homeless to starvation, it may be a valid comment on welfare economics, but I'm not sure if that will end up being a very fun, interactive neighborhood.  Does anybody have any data points on what happens in a typical starting neighborhood with the new story mode?
Pretty much all sims will stay in their homes.  Since the bill isn't very much per bill cycle.... and they don't waste their money buying cars and crap like active family sims do.  So they won't all of a sudden not be able to afford their house... But once they become homeless they need to work to keep up with the rent.  I haven't seen any sims starve to death in my game... but I imagine as long as they are working they should be fine.  (unless they have tons of kids).  Also, when I was playing... the sims throughout the neighborhood did keep their performance up in their jobs and even seemed to improve their job related skills. I think they'd have to be really big fuckups to actually starve.  Even with a crappy job.

Yeah, that has been my experience too. I didn't have anyone in a house get kicked out of it, however as I mentioned in the chat I am having some trouble getting some new spawned famblies into homes in the first place. The last few famblies the game spawned had 3 or 4 kids and around 11k. I have very, very few 4 or 5 bedroom houses to begin with and even when going to look for custom content houses they are rare, but it's pretty much impossible to get one for that little money.

If the kids spawning was scaled back (did a spawned boss really need to come with 4 kids?) and they were given a more realistic sum of funds to start with (I know Pescado says he did this but the math just isn't always working out in my experience) then I think it would work a lot better. They'd get into homes and then from there can start having kids and building funds and working their way up to a nicer house through the story mode in the game.

I think the new famblies should spawn single sims or couples mostly, which will find housing easily since they only require 1 bed, or at most 1-2 kids. Any more than that and it just becomes impossible for them to find housing to fill their needs and budget and they end up homeless forever.

I've actually gotten them moved in without cheating by building a few EXTREMELY cheap crappy homes with 4 beds and a crib for 10k, but I really would rather not dot my neighborhood with cheap shitty houses.

Are there plans to add an option to turn immigration off in AM? That's the only feature I miss from ISM, which otherwise didn't work for me.

In the meantime, is there any harm in regularly deleting the townies that move into town?

I think you will find compared to Indie, AM Story Mode immigrates VERY few sims and when it does it is almost always with some reason. I started with an empty hood with Indie and it was filled with tons of immigrated sim famblies in no time. With AM Story Mode I still had a fairly empty hood after a few sim weeks and finally just made a bunch of my own sims and moved them in to populate the neighborhood.

You can delete the famblies it spawns but bear in mind that with AM Story Mode, unlike Indie, there is very likely some reason that a fambly spawned like it's someone's boss or coworkers and there wasn't an existing sim in town in that career/level to fit the need so it had to spawn one.
458  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 04, 06:42:34
how are reproduction rates with awesomestory? as much/more/less than indie?

In my experience, less. I'm probably not a good example though because I started a new game and nuked everyone (Destroyallhumans) and started from scratch so I basically started off with an empty hood which won't be the norm for most people.

Indie for me was making people breed like rabbits and moving mass quantities of sims into town. Awesome story mode isn't doing that. The progression has been a bit slow so I just tried to nudge it along by creating some more sims and moving them in, but again my situation really isn't the norm.

The one thing that differs is there are no shortcuts or free passes here so if a sim family does not have enough money for a house they will not move into it. Indie would just assign them a random house and then give them a flat 25k in funds.

It's much more important here to make sure you have some low income housing with enough beds and a crib etc if you don't want to end up with homeless families.

There's a whole system to that too. They will pay money into an 'apartment' and for food etc. They can get money from the pot that you give to charity too so if you have good sims the more you give, the more it literally will benefit any homeless sims. If they get enough money to move into a home that meets their needs (enough beds for their family basically and cribs for babies and toddlers) then they will move in.

If not then they can potentially starve to death, though it takes a long time.
459  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 04, 06:18:19
so if we use awesome's storymode does that conflict with Indiestone's?  Or is it more of an add-on if you have both?

You can have both but only one will actually be active at any give time.

You can switch back and forth between them on the fly in the game without having to restart by entering these commands in the console:

Setconfig UseIndieStoneDriver True/False
Setconfig UseAwesomeStoryDriver True/False

Note that it's impossible to have both true, if you turn one true, it will turn the other off.

If you turn them both false you get the default EAxis story mode.

You can check to see which is active by typing showconfig in the console.

You don't have to mess with this all in the console, you can set it in the config and just not worry about it, but if you want to switch back and forth between them in game then right now you need the console to do that.
460  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 04, 06:10:40
I am unable to find info about what Awesome Storymode includes.
Could somebody please direct me to it?

It's basically more or less along the line of what the Indie Stone mod does in that it controls the other townie sims in the neighborhood when you are not.

Pescado is taking a bottom up, show don't tell approach with it so when things happen like it says a sim is going to get a job you can go to that building and actually see them walk up and get the job.

He's created it so things will happen logically and for a reason, ie if a sim has wants to join the athletic career they won't just randomly join culinary and a family won't move out to a less expensive home and have their funds evaporate.

Again, if you've played the Indie Stone it's really similar, it's just the approach to how he does it behind the scenes is somewhat different.

Not that the story mode notifications by default are off in awesomemod so if you want to get them for awesome story mode you need to enable that in the config.
461  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 04, 04:07:44
Ok, that clears up my confusion. I shall wait for feedback from the other beta testers.

For what it's worth, I and some others have already been running it for a few of days now (was running test builds) and it runs pretty well.
462  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 04, 03:17:26
Does this mean that Awesome Story Mode is now a part of Awesomemod, or is this just for when it is released? I searched, but couldn't find it as a separate download. Just wondered if it's safe to get excited.

No, it's out now included with Awesomemod. You enable or disable it via the config.
463  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / STOP THE INSANITY - Common sense for people w crashing & other issues post patch on: 2009 August 04, 01:05:44
Okay you're having issues. You've patched to 1.3 and you are trying to use Awesomemod and your game is crashing or giving you serious problems. What do you do? Start a new thread about it when 400 other people have already done so? NO! Be resourceful. Learn how to solve game problems yourself because guess what? This won't be the last patch or expansion by a long shot.

First thing to do is make sure the patch took. It's possible the patch installer errored out on something and did not succeed in installing the patch but you didn't realize it.

Check your TS3.exe file located here C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin. Right click on it, select properties (the last option on the menu) and then look and see if the file and date information match this:

Then go to the Version tab at the top and see if your version info matches this:

If you patched successfully all that info should match. If it doesn't match, you need the patch.

Here are the direct links for the file:

Updating from the base game unpatched US English verson: http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims/sims3/patches/sims3_1.3.24.00001_from_1.0.631.00001.exe

Updating from the first patch (1.27) US English: http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims/sims3/patches/sims3_1.3.24.00001_from_1.2.7.00001.exe

If you get errors while patching or the patch still is not taking get Delphy's Patch Log viewer here (note: requires .NET 3.5). That will tell you what file is preventing the patch from working. Most likely it is a missing or modified file. If all else fails, reinstall the game and then patch.

So your patch has installed successfully, your version matches the above images. What now?

SEARCH. Do NOT say 'I don't know if this has been asked/mentioned before but...' CHECK. Chances are it has.

When searching make sure you go to home first as that will search the entire board not just this forum, or if you're lazy just use this link http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?action=search;advanced

Now the patch was released July 28th. Count back how many days ago that was (currently 7) and then change the field that says message age choose between zero and how ever many days since the patch has been release (currently 7). Anything older than that is irrelevant to you.

Try different keywords, patch, crash, menu etc. See what comes up. READ or at least skim. Take some time. Don't expect someone to just hand you a solution on a silver platter.

Google or other search engines are also another good resource to try. (Duh. Do I really have to tell you people this?)

If you've done that and are coming up with nada and are having issues patching MTS has a guide to the patch here.

A note on the scripterrorr.package. It is a debugging tool that will give a log message on certain errors. It is basically useful only if you are a coder debugging the game or a game mod or else reporting an error to someone who is debugging the game or a game mod. The messages will not mean much to an average user. It has in fact been reported to cause problems for some people with the patch. If you have it and do not have a specific reason to need to get those message then get rid of it.

If you are getting crashes at the load screen is a known issue. You just have to keep trying. 3Booter can automate the process.

If you are getting crashing in other spots Mod the Sims has a guide here.

It's obvious, but sound advice. Take out all your mods, take out all your custom content. See start replacing things back little by little. See what happens and narrow down the culprit.

Yes it's annoying. Yes, it's tedious. Sometimes it's all you can do. If the game loads without custom content and mods then you are guaranteed to find the culprit this way...eventually. Tongue

If your game loads with no custom content or mods in but does not load with awesomemod and only awesomemod installed (and the rescource.cfg, of course) then there must be something wrong with your setup or you have a bad or corrupt install or patch. None of us who are currently using awesomemod with the patch successfully have been able to reproduce this scenario.

If your game will load with only awesomemod installed but once you put all your other custom content and mods back in, well then you have some other file that is causing a conflict and you need to slowly replace to find out which one it is, duh. Start with putting custom content back in (yes even something as seemingly innocent as a new cloned painting can cause huge issues if not done right), then mods etc.

If your game will not load at all post patch even when every shred of custom contents, mods, resource.cfg etc have all been removed then you may have a corrupt install or patch. Try completely uninstalling the game and then installing on a clean patch. Do not modify any of the files of the game after you install until after you patch as the patch will check and refuse to install on modified installations, even if you just changed something very minor.

If you are unable to uninstall the game follow the guide here from MistyK to do it manually.

If you have uninstalled, reinstalled and patched on a clean install of the game and your game still crashes even with no custom content or mods installed then you should probably take that up with EA customer support as something is clearly wrong and it is not mod related. As this sort of error would not be mod related, you may also have better luck finding a solution at modthesims.info or the Exchange forums at thesims3.com.

Yes, there's lots of junk posts to wade through there but those people seem to be having more issues so perhaps some have found some solutions to them. It's hard for us hard to solve problems we don't have in the first place other than to just say use common sense, try different things, start with just the base game and go from there, search, be resourceful.

Good luck and remember <insert deity or overlord of choice here> helps those who help themselves.

STOP THE INSANITY!

464  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Weird Crash --- can't find any sort of solution. on: 2009 August 04, 00:39:23
If you are getting crashes on the base game patch with absolutely no mods or custom content running then it is not an awesomemod issue and you probably should inquire with EA support or at sims3.com or modthesims.info etc.
465  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Weird Crash --- can't find any sort of solution. on: 2009 August 04, 00:11:38
It has been talked about many, many, MANY times here in numerous other threads.

DO NOT USE THE SCRIPTERROR package. It does NOT fix anything. It never did. It never will. It ONLY gives a log of some errors. If you are not a coder or reporting your findings back to one it will do you zero good and in fact has been reported to cause problems for people with the patch.

Again, if you don't have a specific reason for using it, don't use it!

As for the crash, I have seen 80 bazillion people kermitflailing on and on about it but I have yet to come across anyone who claims to know the reason for it. I and many other of us are not getting it.

First off are you using PC or Mac version? If the latter I have no clue about Mac and cannot speak for it.

What I would try is taking out ALL custom content. Everything.

Move your resource.cfg and mods folder somewhere. Move your My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 folder somewhere.

See if you can still get the game to start. Don't worry about your saves just try a new neighborhood.

If that works then something you downloaded is causing the issue. If not maybe it's a bad patch job, I don't know.

Next time try to search as probably every 5th post here lately is about this particular issue.
466  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: My whole experience of TS3 patching problem (kind of a guide) on: 2009 August 03, 18:49:09
Just a word about the patch that updates from "1.0.631.00002" to "1.0.632.00002". I myself have no idea if it's a good idea or not, but Motoki seemed very sceptical about it in this thread: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,16175.0.html
Since I think he kinda knows what he's talking about, I'm listening to him.  Wink

On a different note, I've searched up and down for a no cd crack that's compatible with the new patch without success. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Well all of the patch exes I have come across update from 1.0.631.00002 not 1.0.632.00002. I'm not even sure entirely what the latter is. I seem to vaguely recall some very minor patch early on that was posted from EA then very quickly disappeared or some such.

It may work to patch from 1.0.62.00002 and if it does that's fine, but it's superfluous extra step so why bother or risk extra complications?

Also, you don't need to patch to 1.0.27.00002 at all since there is a patch that takes you directly from 1.0.631.00002 to 1.3.24.00002 so you can patch in one step.

So is that why people were running around saying they couldn't install custom content? It works for me and I had no idea what the hell they were talking about. Didn't occur to me might be a Mac thing. Weird.
468  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 03, 05:04:10
Hey thanks dude! I'll try that. I'm amazed at how you just don't try the simple things. I'm gonna try and reinstall it.  Grin

I started trying to figure out what the hell files I had changed and after a bit I just figured it would be easier to reinstall. It really doesn't take that long.
469  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 03, 02:56:06
I have tried installing enablescripterror and it didn't fix anything either.
You need to remove that package.

Exactly. Iit never fixes anything. It's not supposed to. It's only supposed to tell you what the problem is in Geekanese but even then most people will need an interpreter and it may not necessarily vomit up a message for a given person's particular problem, depending on what it is.

I wish Pescado would remove his little blurb about it in the Awesomemod download page. Too many tards who don't understand what it does and don't need to be using it are messing with it and now with the patch it may be a source of potential problems.

Anyway, it's a debug tool. Unless someone has a specific purpose to be using it and needs to get a log of an error and decipher it or give it to someone who can, it should not be used. The average ZOMGBenies!!!1111oneoneoneleveneleveneleven BBS user should not be messing with it. It is not for them.
470  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 03, 00:55:03
Thankyou for your reply  dude. Honestly the problem is that I can't update to 1.3 for the very same reason someone in this thread can't. There is an error when I update from 1.2.7 to 1.3 and it seems that hasn't been sorted out here. Not to mention that 1.3 I heard is very buggy and has a whole new slue of issues. Again thankyou Grin

Hearsay caused by hysteria due to user error. Plus people have messed with a lot of different game files without knowing with they were doing or backing it up and then went kermitflailing when the patch wouldn't install.

If you can't patch it is most likely due to some file the game originally installed that you either directly or indirectly (via some mod/patch/crack/trainer bla bla) modified or deleted. If you aren't sure what you changed from the default base install I suggest you just reinstall the game. It will give you the option to keep your saves and custom content when you uninstall so you won't lose any of that.

I stupidly bought the digital download and am unable to patch. The launcher says my game is up to date on version 1.2.7.107.  After searching I found out that they're working on a patch for the digital download and say it should be available soon. Guess I'll have to wait.  Angry

Another question for you guys who have patched and are getting this. If you go into the CAS and select adult male sim, then roll the dice to randomly generate them a bunch of times, do you end up with torsoless ones sometimes?

I do. Pescado says I must be wearing tight pants because it is not doing it for him.  Tongue

This is really annoying the hell out of me and trying to get to the bottom of it.

Edit: Okay he is getting it too. He was rolling YA which oddly enough is fine. It's only full adult male that has the issue. Seems both by doing a random roll in the CAS or being generated as a townie.
474  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Help with the Homeless on: 2009 August 02, 10:00:06
You perhaps (hopefully) already found it, but this thread is a good place to start.

http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,15885.0.html

If the methods outlined there don't work for you then read through the rest of the thread (it's not very long) as at least one alternate method is discussed.

Also be advised that Indie Stone has been reported to cause mass quantities of homeless. I don't know if they are fixing this issue or when but you may want to check into it further on their board at ModTheSims.

One thing you can do to try and prevent that is to not have any sim families in your library bin, not even the defaults. Delete any custom families in your bin (make a copy somewhere else if you want) and also the families in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Library (Baker, Funke, Glover-Wozny, Lum, Martinez and Williams).

NOTE: It has been reported by multiple people that they could not patch with these families removed and had to restore them back to their original directory. Do not delete them but rather move them to another directory so you have the option to move them back at a later date if some future patch gets picky.

Or you could wait for the Awesomemod update with Awesome Story Mode due out very soon.
475  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch ponderings... on: 2009 August 02, 09:46:41
Razor. I had problems after the patch and it absolutely was not due to incompetence. I solved it because of competence. It was the game that screwed itself up.

It's amazing what a little competence will do. It doesn't necessarily take incompetence to cause a problem but it almost always takes competence to solve it.
