The game still needs a FPS limiter, I just tested it then with my GTS250 1gb, and I was getting frame rates between 200 and 3500. My GPU temp jump 10'c before the game had even loaded properly. I'm using the manual FPS creation tool for now, and it's keeping my game to 30fps happily. Stupid Fucking EA. Why can't they put Vsync in? ![Angry](/smf/Smileys/default/angry.gif)

Nvidia card users can also run EVGA to adjust their fan speed. I use it to put the fan at max, and use JM's 3 booter and fps plugin to keep things sweet. There is also a thread floating around of a standalone fps limiter here on MATY, but it wouldn't play nice for me, and the 3booter was easier.

For those with questions about video cards: My machine is a good example. Originally I had a ATI 9550 - 128mb. Ran fine on med/low settings, could play for hours without a single issue. I was given a ATI 9800 series, 512mb. Game looked beautiful, on med/high settings, but then I noticed my system would get unstable and crash. Temp monitors showed my card hitting the high 80'c range, and then the system would reboot. Sometimes it would lock out the video card until it cooled. Thinking that the card had died, I went and bought the earlier mentioned Nvidia GTS250 -1GB. Game was even more pretty. Card would get to 79'c and I could smell a burning smell. The heat sink on this bitch is huge, like 2" thick of fins and copper pipes and a fan plus I have fans pushing air right over it. Set up a fps monitor and realised I was getting 3000+ fps while the game was loading. [That stupid plumbbob screen] I would get ingame fps from 100+ to 1500+. Using 3booter and the fps plugin, I get a happy 30fps, everything is pretty, and my card never gets over 60'c unless it's a hot day. The only time I get abnormal spikes in heat is when using the launcher, as that shows 1500 - 3000+ fps.
Before you blame the card - Crysis runs lovely with vsync on, and keeps it below 60'c. EAxis fucked up.

If you are trying to do it on the cheap, check out what is the max processor your mb can handle. Even better if it is a reasonably new socket type for further upgradability. I'm using an old AMD AM2 socket, but my mb will take newer AM2s and AM3s. As for video cards, I'm quite pleased with my Nvidia GTS250 1gb. Things are pretty, and it was AUD $170. Edit: Can't say I've done much with core2, all the recent work I've done building kit is quadcore.

If we ask for specs, we want specs. Processor, ram, video card. Did you create the framework properly? Are you using framework from Pescado or Delphy and not someone like Rose/Peggy's? If you remove awesomemod & the config file, does your game return to regular speeds? In short: MOAR information pls.

If it were possible, I'd make it so unlucky sims could get their ARMS MAULED OFF by things LIVING in the mailbox.
I can see the pop up now: "Do you want to check the mail box? Just remember, it's dark in there, your hand may be eaten by a Grue."

You're right Rice Ball, I've been building PCs for 7 years. If I had more money, the rig would be bleeding edge. Unfortunately Shroomlet comes first. I've been circling around Win7 but I still play old games, and I would hate to lose the compatibility, and I'm currently to busy to make my machine dual boot. The joy of computers is they only run as fast as your slowest component. Yes the GTS250 is over kill for TS3, but RA3 sure looks purty! Mez forgot to allocate money for da game!!!!! ![Shocked](/smf/Smileys/default/shocked.gif) Oops... SILLY ME!!! I've gotta wait 4 weeks now until I've got the money to get it! LOL... Know am I not Awesome or what!! ![Cheesy](/smf/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Getting in before Pescado: PIRATE CAT DOESN'T PAY FOR HIS GAMES!

I am wondering if it would be worthwhile to arr-quire a copy of 64 bit XP to take advantage of the new hardware. Does 64 bit XP recognise more ram or is 4gb still the limit? There won't be an overall 4GB limit anymore with XP64 but the 2GB allocation limit for TS3 will remain, so if that's the whole reason to it there's not that much of a point. Besides I wouldn't arr Windozes past 2K, circumventing the activation while still being able to patch on an OS that can't be definitely stopped from calling home isn't that much fun. If the WGA is an issue, you're not trying hard enough. ![Cheesy](/smf/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Found a legitimate key, modded my hosts file, and haven't looked back since. Same way I get CS4 to play nice.

Nice video card but it' s hugely bottlenecked by your cpu a phenom II would be a better match. Hopefully your current cpu is socket am2 and not 939.
It was a freebie for building a computer for a friend. I've got a brand new mobo that supports amd 2/3 and the plan is to buy a new cpu after I drop some money on a better psu and cooling.

Since we're throwing around hardware configs and questions, I just upgraded to a AMD 4600+ dual core with 4gb ram and a shiny new Nvidia GTS250 1gb video card. TS3 flies, and I'm looking forward to reinstalling TS2 to enjoy it at a reasonable speed. I am wondering if it would be worthwhile to arr-quire a copy of 64 bit XP to take advantage of the new hardware. Does 64 bit XP recognise more ram or is 4gb still the limit? I'd rather not go to Vista, I just find it really clunky.

If you go Win XP, it takes about 3 mins of work, plus letting the computer do it's thing to make a disc with the appropriate SATA drivers built in. I'm actually building one for Saraswati, going for a quad core Intel, 4gb ram, 1gb video card, burner, 1TB sata drive and Gigabyte mobo for $1100 AUD. I quite like what your looking at spec wise.
