451  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Can't sew a teddy bear on: 2008 August 13, 14:01:32
Ok, I finally got some sims with enough sewing skills to sew a teddy bear.  Except, when they do I get a constant string of errors, like the one attached.  Any clues as to what's causing this?
452  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Graphics Card opinions on: 2008 August 12, 19:42:20
Why do you reccommend sticking with ATI?  I thought Nvidia was a much better card?  The reason I bring it up is that I'm in the process of building a new machine and I'm trying to decide which way to go.  I've used Nvidia and ATI and I always thought my Nvidia was better.  Does ATI work better for TS2?  What do you think TS3 will need?  I'm trying to plan ahead.

nVidia's have usually been the better gaming card overall, but there's traditionally been many more problems with them than with the ATI cards as far as TS2 is concerned. So if TS2 (and probably TS3) is your main game, it's worth sticking with ATI.  Most other games won't have any problem running with the high-end ATIs anyway.

After my old computer went kaput, I had to buy this processor, an Asus P5KE, 2Gb DDR2, a 250Gb SATA2 drive, and an XFX Geforce 8800GTS, all for under €500

It's clear this is a mid-range setup, but it's enough to play Freetime, with little to no drag, although loading times haven't improved that much.

Double your RAM -- I did that, and TS2 flies.  Fast loading, and I hardly ever get any lag.

Edited by moderator to fix double posting.  Tsk, tsk, Jsalemi; you really should know better.

That E8400 is a sweet processor, isn't it?
454  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Graphics Card opinions on: 2008 August 12, 03:10:20
Yes.  Stick with the ATI card; the rest of your specs look pretty good.  Maybe go with a little faster CPU -- the 3.0Ghz core 2 duos aren't that much more than the 2.5Ghz these days.
455  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Flower arranging borked? on: 2008 August 10, 20:23:17
I've heard that Parsimonious aromatherapy thing causes a lot of FT problems, so it's probably wise to dump it.
456  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Anyone?? a different no-cd crack for ikea or k&b stuff? on: 2008 August 09, 23:54:20
it works just fine accept some of my toddlers have lifetime aspirations already. The Aspir toddler in Desiderata wants to be a world class ballerina, lol.
That does not sound like a Good Thing.

And is nothing to do with the noCD crack.  Lullabelle has neighbourhood corruption from deleting sims or adding played lots to her neighbourhood.

Not even that -- it's EAxis borkage, since my Aspir toddler had the exact same LTW the first time I ever played that lot. And I know better than to do either of those things.
457  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: You could meet Pescado in a dark alley with a suitcase full of cash, or... on: 2008 August 07, 18:00:04
We as contributors didn't have problems with Paypal the last time, but Pesc and company had enormous trouble getting the money we sent to Paypal paid out to them. The payments ended up in some Paypal limbo for quite some time, and many of us had to request our money back from Paypal for 'non-delivery of service' (or something like that) because it would otherwise have hung in limbo for a long time.

ETA: Found the thread from last year on the Paypal mess: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,7107.0.html

458  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sims are getting stuck in hammock on: 2008 August 04, 21:33:37
FTp2 and FTp3 are essentially the same patch; I think the only big difference is that 3 adds support for the EA Store.

Color me a bit confused -- so your ls_buy.package has ALL the LS objects you've converted in one package, rather than in individual packages like Pescado's (and others)?  If it's not all of them, is there a list somewhere of which it does contain, so I know which older packages are replaced?
460  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sims are getting stuck in hammock on: 2008 August 04, 14:02:57
I've seen that problem recently, too -- seems to have cropped up since FTp3.  I saw it when a sim was reading in a hammock and I tried to get her husband there for a quicky (she had a public woohoo want).  Queued up the woohoo, and she put the book away and they both ended up stuck -- her in the hammock and him standing next to it.  I could only clear them by forcing an error on her, and then having them start the woohoo interaction as soon as she got back into the hammock.

And it was on a community lot, and no, I don't have any of Ste's Risky Woohoo hacks in my game.
461  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Game won't start. on: 2008 August 03, 17:03:12
In fact, now that I think about it Securom may be more likely, since I got the Spore Creature Creator a couple weeks ago, and it uses a disc. I will have to go check that out.

Yup, that's your problem -- the Spore thing comes with suckrot.

Is it just me or do the Sims not realize they're being robbed in that first picture?

Nope, it's not just you -- they're getting robbed.
463  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Bork Pool for L&P Sims2 'Apartment Life/Fill Up With All The Odds & Ends'EP8 on: 2008 August 02, 14:43:03
Which borkedness do you want to discuss?  The restrictions on changing the lot after apartment dwellers move in?  Or the NPC 'roommate'?  I imagine that one is going to break a whole lot of stuff. Or perhaps the social network thing bringing in a whole bunch of new annoyances?

(At the least, it looks like Inge is going to have some work to do to update her lockable doors hack, and I imagine you'll have some major work to do on APO...)
464  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How long does Louis Aspir live anyway? on: 2008 August 01, 13:58:23
Yes, quilts are fine -- they're built-into the game, so it doesn't change anything to sew one.
465  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How long does Louis Aspir live anyway? on: 2008 August 01, 13:43:18
And where are those files being SAVED? Does anyone know?

Apparently the custom clothes are still saved in objects.package.  I had one sim make some as an experiment after patch 3, and when she was done, the date of the FT objects.package changed to the current date, even though it was marked as read-only. It also wasn't read-only anymore.
466  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ridiculous 'follow' obsession on: 2008 July 31, 18:58:52
Ah, I knew there was more than one reason I kept nostrayrespawn in my game. Smiley
467  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ridiculous 'follow' obsession on: 2008 July 31, 17:31:27
I'm not sure if the pool of pets on the phone is the same as the pool of strays that wander lots. Maybe if you exhaust the pool on the phone, it gets filled with the strays?
468  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How long does Louis Aspir live anyway? on: 2008 July 31, 13:16:18
Yea, Emma is right -- the option 'make>custom outfit' pops up on the sewing machine when the sim has a gold badge.  But the selection is limited (i.e., you only get a dress for an elder female), and aren't really worth the effort.  Better to have them make regular clothes from the catalog -- saves some simoleans and a shopping trip, anyway.
469  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ridiculous 'follow' obsession on: 2008 July 31, 13:13:47

Inge at Simlogical has a hack that allows toddlers to get out of their cribs autonomously. I'm not altogether sure, but they may need to be able to walk first. Either that or it's dependent on personality - a very few of my toddlers won't do it.

I think it's based on the lazy/active level of the toddler, but yea, that's a very handy hack.

As for my no-wolf/stray issue, I took out nostrayrespawn last night before playing Desiderata, and immediately got strays on the first lot I played.  Didn't see a wolf until I used the NPC spawner on the mailbox to spawn one, but now there's one in the hood at least.  So I guess nostrayrespawn keeps any strays or wolves from spawning in a new hood. Now that I have some, I can put nostrayrespawn back in.

470  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ridiculous 'follow' obsession on: 2008 July 30, 22:10:38
Screaming toddlers. Wolves, who are more attracted to lots with young spawn. I can practically smell the "Dingo Ate My Baby" hack now.

You know, it's occurred to me that I haven't seen a wolf (and rarely a stray) since I installed FT.  The skunk comes around all the time, as does the penguin.  I've been playing the Desiderata hood, though, and I'm wondering if Pesc's hack to cut down on strays being spawned has something to do with it....
471  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How long does Louis Aspir live anyway? on: 2008 July 30, 12:46:51
Right, because they still write them to a game file (objects.package, I believe?).
472  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How long does Louis Aspir live anyway? on: 2008 July 30, 12:20:14
(I was disappointed with the gold sewing badge, I thought they got to make new clothes, not just ones already available).

They do get to make custom clothes with the gold badge -- not that the custom clothes are any great shakes, but they do get to make them.
473  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack for more realistic college GPA (possible?) on: 2008 July 29, 17:21:33
Bah -- Uni is boring enough as it is.  Just use Pescado's college clock to send them to finals as soon as their grade bar is high enough and get it over with. Smiley
474  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack for canceling out of automated prepare food from fridge? on: 2008 July 29, 17:19:05
I am trying to follow the same strategy with my sims, although, considering the cooking skills level of most of my MATY sims at present, they don't get much variety - what they get is lots and lots and lots of spaghetti.
There's nothing wrong with living off spaghetti only Grin

Millions of Italian-Americans can't be wrong about doing just that. Smiley

Make sure you have the latest versions for your highest EP of all your hacks and mods (IOW, make sure you don't have tight pants Smiley ).
