401  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Oh My! I think EA might have done something smart for a change! on: 2008 September 03, 18:53:11
It doesn't appear to.  I ran AL for a couple of hours on my Core 2 Duo desktop last night, and it hummed along just fine -- even seemed faster than FT using one core w/Forcecore. I saw no lag, no graphic glitches, nor any other signs of it having an issue with a multi-core processor.

So it seems that AL at least plays nice with the multi-core processors, if it doesn't actually make good use of them.
402  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sim about to meet self: did I broke it? on: 2008 September 03, 17:47:25
I've had situations in the past where a sim is talking to another on the phone, and the other sim shows up as a walk-by while they're still supposedly on the phone. If they're friendly enough, the visitor has even just walked into the house, puttering around while the resident sim is still talking to him/her on the phone.  Not quite as bad as two of the same sim showing up on the same lot, but still a weird glitch.

Are the Charlatans only suppose to appear on vacation lots? Don't they also appear on community lots downtown?

The Charlatan appears everywhere for your convenience. Smiley  I've seen him on community and even on residential lots in any hood I've played.

Ste,

Risking the scary man to tell you that this is borked in AL -- it prevents kids from walking to school.
405  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Oh My! I think EA might have done something smart for a change! on: 2008 September 02, 23:05:52
That's weird. I remember reading a thread here about the game having a glitch that caused it not to run properly on Dual core machines? It was soem time ago and I am technically challanged so I may have not understood what people were talking about.

Though I remember the thread 'cause it explained how to fix it and everything with a file you had to download from the Windows site. Undecided

The file is actually called 'Forcecore' and it's a small utility that's somewhere here and around on the net -- it forces the application to use just one core.  Up to FT at least, the game ran faster if you forced it to use only one core.  It had some glitches and ran slower if you let it use all cores.  It seems like AL may not necessarily run better on a multi-core machine, but it won't run bad, either.

With the on the spot blind date set-ups, my test sim was given an NPC (delivery driver).  She can't phone her, which I think was a FT thing with NPCs.

FYI, Dizzy has a fix for the non-callable NPC thing over on Laden Swallow.
407  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Apartments-a-go-go (3 lots) on: 2008 August 31, 19:42:29
Zaz, just an FYI -- the phone controller tagged along in your '5 Townhouses' package...
408  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Cleared out apartments: Really an intention??? on: 2008 August 31, 15:46:16
As for renting an apartment and not having much left over for more than the cheapest items, that sounds pretty much like real life to me.  A starting out sim who has just left home or college shouldn't be able to afford to buy a house or have expensive furniture.

The IKEA stuff pack finally makes sense... Smiley
409  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 August 31, 15:06:09
EAxis has made only one good phone for the game (Pets EP) yet, and Apartment Life makes it look stupid (I haven't tried the table version):
<snip>
Tight pants I assume.

CEP problem, actually -- there's a bug in the CEP module that allows phone recolors.  Remove it and everything should be fine.
410  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Objects from Sims 2 Store Not Showing Up on: 2008 August 31, 14:54:20
Try looking in the Peasantry forum here, and get them from here rather than where you got them from.
411  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Bathroom Controller: In Soviet Russia, Bathroom Uses You! on: 2008 August 29, 03:17:56
Just stick a controller by each toilet -- they all then take/share the same settings, so you can't adjust each one individually.  Just adjust the settings on one (leave it at room), and the rest follow.  And yes, the number of controllers determines how many sims can use the room at the same time.
412  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Enabling Build/Buy In Apartments on: 2008 August 29, 01:53:34
Yes, that's what he's saying -- if the apartments don't have a common wall, then the neighbors can't complain (which they do excessively, it appears). Hence, that's the solution to reducing the complaints right now.

As for the disappearing furniture, it's been discussed extensively here.  I suggest you check the thread on AL borkedness in the 'Oops! You broke it!' forum.
413  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Bathroom Controller: In Soviet Russia, Bathroom Uses You! on: 2008 August 29, 01:48:25
Two things to try/remember:

1) you need a BUY controller for each toilet stall in the bathroom.
2) having the shower in a different room is just annoying as far as getting BUY to work.  Best bet is to just remove a piece of the wall so the shower is in the same room as the toilets.  You need to turn on the build cheat to do this, which is: "boolprop dormspecifictoolsdisabled false"
414  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apartment Life: Obligatory Hate/Love Topic on: 2008 August 27, 22:26:44
No question about it, it's Baba Yaga's house of the chicken feet.  Funny how that's filtered into American culture so thoroughly that it's immediatley recognizable.

Somebody at EAxis is a Hellboy fan -- that kinda looks like how Baba Yaga's hut appears in the Hellboy comics.
415  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 August 27, 14:51:09
- I don't know if this is a bug or if there's something wrong with my game, but there's no video clips on the television anymore. When my sim tries to watch television I just get some text on white background on the tv-screen and that's it. Also my sims can play The sims 3 on the videogame thingy, but there's just a blue screen and no sound.

I'm going to guess you have an ATI video card -- this was a bug in the release version of FT that was finally fixed by the 2nd/3rd patch, and also fixed by an update to the ATI drivers.  Looks like it's back.
416  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 August 27, 01:49:18
Hmm, don't think anyone had that particular 'feature' in the Bork Pool...
417  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Arrred games? on: 2008 August 26, 19:47:50
No-cd.exe is up on gamecopyworld for those who buy it.
418  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The One Shiny: Autonomy Control on: 2008 August 26, 01:35:52
Hmm, then what's the purpose of the 'exception' option -- to keep the autonomy?
419  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The One Shiny: Autonomy Control on: 2008 August 25, 23:54:05
It basically provides fine control over the sim's autonomous actions. Sim is doing something, you click on sim, you can make action non-autonomous or autonomous for sim, lot, whole hood.
420  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is there a way to change sims outfits? on: 2008 August 23, 14:19:32
Well, the Hack Conflict Detection Utility over on simwardrobe can tell if you have conflicting hacks, but there's no program that can point out a bad hack or one that's incompatible with your current EP.  Easiest way to find it is the binary search method:

1) move your downloads folder out of the game.
2) run game to make sure function works, and it's not a problem with the core game files
3) put back 1/2 of your downloads, and see if function still works
4) If yes, put in 1/2 of remaining moved downloads, and repeat
5) if no, take out 1/2 of downloads in the game and check again
6) repeat until you find the bad hack

A binary search isn't hard, and you can usually narrow down the problem in 5  or 6 iterations.
421  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is there a way to change sims outfits? on: 2008 August 23, 14:10:25
If that does nothing, then you have a hack/mod that's not compatible with your game.  Suggest you update your hacks for the latest EP you have, or remove your downloads folder, see that it does in fact work, and then do a binary search to find the bad hack/mod that prevents the sims from changing.

Having seen the L&P about being able to move stuff  higher or lower on the walls, I predict that doing so will thereby prevent you from putting anything else on any wall in the same room, and perhaps even prevent you from putting anything on any wall anywhere on the lot ever again.
423  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Did I just do a Very Bad Thing? on: 2008 August 22, 17:17:15
You probably have to to back to the original lot where the sim died, and re-move the gravestone.
424  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Did I just do a Very Bad Thing? on: 2008 August 22, 14:07:31
Don't know if you'll ever get the graves back, but you can delete the mailbox and garbage can and put a public phone on the lot -- it's found in the 'Electronics/Misc' catalog, I think.
