On another note, am I understanding right that people are seeing children and teens in NPC apartment neighbor families?  Because I'm seeing only adults and elders.

No, no kids or teens in NPC apartments, only in playable apartments. In fact, I don't think I've seen an actual NPC couple in the other apartments -- they're always solo.

Most of us here play with the testing cheats on all the time, and don't even bother ever turning them off.

1)  So... limited activations include... if you ever have to re-install?  i.e. if I ever have to reformat, it will count as one of the 3 time only activations?

2)  I can understand how the cracked version would allow you to circumvent SecuROM... but does it actually let you re-install multiple times?  I mean... wouldn't you still need a serial/activation #?  I would imagine that each serial/activation # still only has 3 time only activations.  Unless the cracked .exe actually does something to prevent the activation from counting?

OR... does it only NOT count if you DON'T play online.  in other words... you can activate and re-activate, whether you use your valid paid for serial/activation # or whether you use a cracked/key-gen'd one, so long as you NEVER go online? Huh

1) Yup, that's what it means.  ANY re-install counts as one of the 3.

2) Unless you're ONLY trying to avoid SecuROM, you generally wouldn't register or play online with the cracked .exe. If you want to add other folks creations to your game, you'd do it manually by downloading them from the spore site, or pretty much any fan site that has shared creatures and content.  And thus you can install as often as you like.

@jesslla: right -- see #2 above.

In doing so, I noticed a behaviour that quickly drove me to distraction. Every walk-by, after being greeted and talked to, walked straight into one of two bedrooms that were equipped with dressers and repeatedly changed clothes! Over and over and over. Four of the orphan kids did the same. Everyone lined up to change clothes. It was ridiculous! I finally deleted all dressers and the walk-bys. Bleh! I have never seen this behaviour in any EP before this.

That isn't a known AL bork (never seen it happen in my game, with the orphans or any other residential or apartment lot), so you probably still have an old hack lurking somewhere that's causing it.
355  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Family adopted back their seized toddler? on: 2008 September 09, 21:44:07
I've gotten to the point where they only get to study parenting (and any of the new AL 'skills') if they roll wants to do so, and then only if I dont' have something better planned for them. Smiley

I haven't seen the cuddling in bed yet, probably because most of the time my sims go to sleep under sleepclock/BUY control, and as soon as they wake up they run to the bathroom. I'll have to give them a chance to sleep on their own one of these go-arounds and see if I catch it.

I believe they eventually scrapped the activation scheme due to public outcry.

Actually, no -- MS still uses that activation scheme. I ran into a problem with it when I built my new computer earlier this year and had to do multiple XP installs due to various hardware issues.  They made it easier to solve, though -- just a phone call and an automated response system that reactivated your installs.

I'm going to be getting a new computer in the next few months, and I'm not thrilled that I'll have to reactivate my game and only have one more activation available. I miss the "good old days" when copy protection was "type the fourth letter of the fifth page of this manual". It was a lot less invasive than SecuROM.

Not really -- go to gamecopyworld and get the no-cd.exe. Problem solved -- you can still connect online to get new stuff from the user community if you like, but won't have the SecuROM issues or limited count.

As of right now, 1393 out of 1490 reviews are 1-star on the US Amazon site. Only 34 5-star reviews.

There are no reviews at all for Spore now on Amazon.co.uk. However the tags for the game are quite interesting.

They're back up to 9 reviews right now, with 3 1-star and 2 2-star. Smiley

AL introduced a new feature - you press Ctrl and Alt together and then it will let you put more things on the same wall, without using move objects.

Actually, that's not new -- it's been around since OFB or Pets.

Would someone pretty please link me to a copy of the full version of Creature Creator? Cheesy

I thought the full version of the Creature Creator was part of the game, and what was released a month or so ago was just a limited preview of it?

Yee, I'm starting up my game. :]

Nouniprotect turns off the 'protection' for dormies, so their motives actually drop if they don't take care of themselves.  After a bit you'd see them sleeping in their food, on the floor, pretty much everywhere, which is why I was curious if you had it and if it was affecting tenants.

The spiral stairs in the game work great!  I'm probably going to dump the maxine spirals I have in the game (never was fond of her animation for them) and replace any I used with the EAxis ones.  Just wish sims could run on them.

Then it's possible your system doesn't meet the specs needed for AL (which are higher than previous EPs, actually). At the least, make sure all your drivers are up-to-date, especially video.
364  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes on: 2008 September 08, 17:35:51
ps: what do you mean by people are experiencing opposite? do you mean that people are having their games running faster after this ep?

Yes, many of us (including me) are finding the game runs faster.  Have you removed or updated all your outdated hacks?
365  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Lest we forget: SPORE on: 2008 September 08, 15:29:01
Yep! You can register for a Spore account as long as you have a valid registration code.  When you install the game, do not start it up until after you install the crack.  Then just start it up normally and you can go online and utilize the full features of the game, minus the SecuROM checks.

Good to know; I'm going to die of old age waiting for the thing to download, and may just buy it (~40% when I left this morning).
366  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 08, 13:25:05
Or use some mod (or just the testing cheats) that allows you to take control of non-playables, and tell the sim to wake up.

@FourCats: do you have 'nouniprotect' in your game?  I'm curious if that's affecting tenants as well...

Yea, maybe -- and please don't double-post.  Just go back and edit your last message to add the new info.
369  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Lot Sync Timer: All BlueSoups Suck Edition on: 2008 September 08, 13:08:27
When in another household totally, they all list fine, but when playing the 2nd family in an apt, the first family isn't on the list.
Yea, I noticed that one too, but I figured that's because both families have the same lot id, which is what the sync timer uses.
370  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes on: 2008 September 07, 22:13:39
Yes, but the SecuROM only installs if you run the game with the official patched .exe -- so we all just wait for the cracked no-cd.exe to come out for the patched version before installing the patch.  In most cases, it usually comes out within a couple of days of patch release.
371  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 07, 21:33:55
Right, the unlimited spawning thing was fixed. And yea, you don't need antiredundancy if you don't mind replacement NPCs respawing if you marry one in or otherwise make one playable.
372  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apartment Life: Obligatory Hate/Love Topic on: 2008 September 07, 21:18:13
In a way, that's part of what I like about AL -- it's pretty realistic in that space is limited in apartments, and you have to get creative on what does and doesn't fit. If you want more stuff, save up and buy a house. Smiley
373  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Anyone using the "no cd" for spore? on: 2008 September 07, 21:12:07
My understanding (I'm still waiting for my, umm, 'copy') is that yes, the Spore no-cd.exe doesn't connect to the internet; in fact, you shouldn't install the download manager at all when you're using it. It also doesn't install SecuROM, which is one of the main points of the no-cd.exe Smiley You can still add creatures that are shared by other players and shared outside the Spore site (see the Spore threads in Retardoland here for some).
374  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 07, 21:03:24
Notownieregen keeps the spawning of social townies (and others) to the minimum required by the game, and yes it does prevent the game from spawning replacement townies. Combine it with antiredundancy to keep the number of NPCs (maids, delivery folks, etc) to the minimum required, and you're all set.
375  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Car-related crash - help? on: 2008 September 07, 20:58:51
Do you have any custom cars in your game (other than those Ford things from the main site)?  Older custom cars have been known to bork all cars in the game.
