If the temp is borderline, sometimes they don't change out of their coats even when going into the house. Technically this would be the time to use to coatrack (or Pes's hack) but I just let them walk around inside in their coats like the idiots they are. Except in my current home, as they have a "clean room" to walk through and decontaminate from being out in the acid rain.
Clean room? Acid rain? Please elaborate! It already sounds cool, but I want to hear more. ![Smiley](/smf/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Just figments of my imagination. The neighborhood has been "cleansed" due to some naughty behaviour and is currently working its way back to normal...slowly. Spinning off the Apocalypse Challenge. No playing in the rain or snow is allowed, no plants can survive outside. Oddly, Fawn's kids (sans Geranium, the first) have all rolled a dark grayish skintone, too, which I'm choosing to believe is due to slight contamination from mom walking to and from the carpool while in her first trimester. She also had a heck of a time getting pregnant with her fourth, which would make sense as the reproductive system is one of the first things to break down during extended exposure to low levels of harmful chemicals.

Worse than the regular bugs. The regular bugs aren't on the lot all the time. The ladybugs are.
And they don't protect enough to be worth it. Indoor plants always win. By the way, in case anyone missed it: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=229680. Indoor crops, on a foundation or the fourth floor if it tickles you, and no floaters. Kyna, I chucked the pets rules. Make no sense to me, as my pets don't exactly inspire me. You can't teach your kid to study because Rover hasn't met the top of his career? Uh, why? But then, I'm not keeping score or anything, so I customize challenges as much as I like. Gus- 24 plants? Interesting math there. 2 on each side would be a 4x4. That's 16. EDIT: Doi, it's not one of those on-the-line objects like the sprinkler. I stand corrected. Shows how much I grow outside of a greenhouse.

I have a zombie Sim that wants to be top of the Law career. Figures. It's a good thing zombies don't age, because she still hasn't gotten the job yet. So it may very well be a bug. But then again, I've had other Sims who've gotten their dream jobs on the first day upon moving in. So I dunno what's up with that. ![Cheesy](/smf/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) It's random, but biased against you. You'll get just enough to lull you into a sense of complacency, but the odds are actually heavily weighted against you. Does taking another job have any bearing on this? I've often found that if I just have the sim take another job at random, the next day their dream career comes up. Could just be the roll, of course.

Actually, in the late 1880's, predatory insects were used in pest control, and in the US. See: http://www.safe2use.com/ca-ipm/01-04-27.htm1840 Potato blight (Phytophthora infestans) outbreak in Ireland, England and Belgium leading to widespread famine. Also Boisgiraud collected and liberated large numbers of predatory carabid beetles Calasoma sycophanta to destroy leaf feeding larvae of the gypsy moth
1883 Apanteles glomeratus was imported from the UK to the USA to control cabbage white butterfly
1888 First major success with imported biological control agents Cryptochetum iceryae and the coccinellid beetle Rodolia cardinalis from Australia for the control of cottony-cushion scale in US citrus fruits Yay history.

The variant is very similar to Apocalypse challenge/Seasons rules. I liked the concept of the Apocalypse challenge, but didn't care for how long it took, or the actual details of how you unlock things. One Sim's lifetime is about as long as I can stand to run a given challenge before I get bored. - Gus Generally, I feel the same way. If I hadn't gotten back into story writing and made myself throw several wrenches into the works, there's no way I'd be on Gen 7 of my Alphabet Challenge family right now. Third generation has always been my limit beforehand, but I finally found a good way to balance my simming "needs" in a way that keeps me enthused about it. I'm doing Apocalypse as well, but very much modified as some rules don't make sense to me or to my neighborhood's story, and over 10 generations as I'm only doing heirs & spouses to unlock, plus college is unaffected. The Oversoul has no issue with Romance YA's as there is a place for everything, and that place is college. Also, the murderous freak who tipped the barrel over was in Urban Paradise. This sounds like a good next step, though. I was planning on unlocking Enviro. Science last, so going from no outside plants to a farming challenge would work well. Especially with a stingy fortune sim who wants to make as much money as possible, so spend nothing on groceries and not paying for anything that uses utilities would be right up their alley. Plus, I already had a cheapskate fortune sim...this'd be the extreme.

The variant is very similar to Apocalypse challenge/Seasons rules. Except by their rules you have to unlock Enviro. Sciences before putting crops down, plus Science for spray. And maybe something else....eh. I modified to having crops inside the house and no food delivery as only the grown crops are safe.
There is a bush toilet out there somewhere that I have. It came with a set that had a tent and a cooler-fridge. I believe it was from TSR.

It's also highly inefficient due to the way the game works and the fact that townies seem to really, really like sitting at the bar. And due to your poor placement of seating and employee staffing, yes. Which would not be an issue if the simmies drank at the bar stools instead of eating there, and preferred the cushy chairs downstairs rather than the hard barstools upstairs in the noisy club. I understand in part why they coded it that way: Maxis-designed community lots favor diners, which of course often have you eating at the counter/bar. And really, unless they specified certain stools as barstools and certain ones as counter stools, there's no way to prevent it. Eh, I'm still not saying it isn't inefficient design on my part knowing the rules, I just haven't been to a Maxis lot since...uh...right around when Nightlife came out other than a short foray to PURE and I generally don't do club/restaurants like that. So I forgot. I also forgot that if you place the dj booth on a riser with any real space around it, sims will try to dance on the riser behind the booth(so as to be on the same level with the booth) instead of on the huge dancefloor in front. That's going to take some fiddling, but I've fixed it before. Worst case scenario, it gets shoved down to the floor and I place a half-wall around it. No biggie. That's what playtesting is for.

Yeah, even scolding and praising for behavior adds commands you can make them do. ie keep praising them for eating pet food, and you can actually command them to eat when the training bar is full, or keep scolding them for sleeping on sim beds and you can send them to go sleep. Training them to eat pet food is dead useful, pun intended. For working pets, they tend to come home and park their butts in the front yard, snoozing or grooming, while you get the message that you're neglecting your starving pets.

Has anyone come up with a Pets Motives cheat? Carrigan's is a bone and doesn't seem to work for cats.. since they are unselectable except via boolprop from neighborhood (which I always fuggit to do) "boolProp controlpets". Max motives should work but of course that affects everyone. Pet motives shouldn't be a problem unless you get them a job, because they come home tired, stinky, and cranky. Otherwise they are pretty self sufficient. Stop annoying the kitty and it'll do its thing. As in real life, if it bitches too much, get it a friend. I already know about boolprop.. but I hate to see all the errors that pop up as I play.. whether I should click cancel or reset isn't explained near enough to want to do either. I mainly want kitty to be full o'food/energy.. just like my real kitties are on any given day. Different boolProps. You're thinking of boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true, which does that. I don't keep it on, just enter it true, enter it false, so that I can Ctrl-Shift-C and cycle through when I need them. The "control pets" modifier doesn't alert to errors. It just gives you...uh...control. To tell them to do stuff. To make them stop doing stuff, you need "boolprop PetActionCancel true". Guide to all cheat codes here: http://snootysims.com/cheatsindex.php?id=cheatsThere are nesting quotes, but breaking up and replying requires manual effort.

Has anyone made a no-cd crack for vista/seasons yet? I put Sims 1 on the new pc.. the crack didn't want to work nicely even after telling the file to "run as admin" nor "run like it was XP". Mixed metaphor alert. I blame Seagrams. And finally.. anyone know why a real fat cat has stinky breath? He (Gannon) eats the same food as Link (dry) and Asheley (wet, RIP.. don't ask or I'll bawl).. but has the raunchiest breath ever.. why don't maxis' pets have stench... or do they? I'd suspect it has something to do with stomach acid, but I have no idea. My bigger one has the same problem. Try these treats...shaped like tiny fishies in a tin tin called Pit-r-Pat. Great for the breath. Unfortunately, Soren is the only cat I know that doesn't like them. The baby gobbles them like candy.

I'm inclined to chalk this up to a combination of understaffing and shitty design.
It's not shitty, it's pretty. It's also highly inefficient due to the way the game works and the fact that townies seem to really, really like sitting at the bar. What would be the best way to prevent this behavior? No bars at a restaurant? A bar with no stools?
Either, but the bar really goes with the club upstairs. The barstools will be going bye-bye, although no one will be visiting a community lot in the neighborhood for several generations. They have to be "rebuilt" after the "apocalypse" that occurred as the Oversoul got even for all the naughty non-zombified romance sims and the fact that Charisma the Freak decided to prolong her life by drinking all the residents but my heir. Since I'm doing the Seasons rules (modified) and am only using the heir and spouse to unlock restrictions, that means I have to unlock culinary, military, and business (my rule, just doesn't make sense to be able to buy meals but not items). Before that has to be education as well, since I'm using the degree requirement hack.

I just need something to prevent townies from insisting upon requesting a seat at the bar way upstairs at Saish right before my playables get a chance at the podium. The first floor has a very high lofted ceiling, so the staircase is about 2 stories high and I have to wait for the hostess to go all the way upstairs, gesticulate, then come downstairs again.

Thank you for trying anyways, i am making this my mission.
You could always go with a very effeminate man instead. Other than the pregnancy modifiers, there's no real difference between a male sim and a female sim. *shrug* I don't know, I'm supportive of the whole culture (I did basically live in Boystown for a year and went to gay bars all the time), but it's not something I've felt the need for in my game.

Oh, so that's why some lots never install at all! Even from my own stuff. In older incarnations of the game I had the xmas funpack and the family fun stuff, I never bothered installing them again, then some of my lots wouldn't load using Maxis installer. I wondered why. I also dicovered that if I have an apostrophe in the lot filename I can't load them. I was keen on the "fish'n'chips" style filename at one point and if I remove the apostrophes it works.
Oh. My. Lord. So that's why I lost Vaughn Hotel & Suites! I had it on my laptop, which had up to NL in, and for the life of me couldn't get the package file to install now. I miss that lot...it was definitely one of my best. That one was named after my first attempt at the legacy challenge. Always name my favorite lots after my important sim families, which is why my current favorite is named "Saish" for Saish Test, matriarch of my Sims1&2 first family. I may upload it to the exchange soon, if the dratted thing isn't being mean to me. It wouldn't take Premiere Dorms for some reason.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Placing Portraits on a Community Lot
|
on: 2007 May 29, 15:00:00
|
Easiest way? Have Open for Business? Paint the portrait at home, place it in inventory. Buy the lot, place the portrait, then sell the lot back to the community. [snipped]
And it won't sell the portrait when you sell the lot back to the neighborhood? nope, I just did this a couple nights ago. it worked great! I had a sim buy the lot after painting a bunch of custom paintings, went and hung the sign to close the business, put the pictures where I wanted them and had the sim head home. had her sell the business back and I went to it in build mode to remove the unneeded sign and check on the paintings, all of them were there. I used one of Squinges "paint faster" hacks so I would have the pictures done ASAP (2 hour version) To build on, I have a graveyard with paintings done of every dead resident, before the Oversoul got angry and nuked the neighborhood. One resident owned the lot and others would just gift him the portraits and he would place them. Occasionally I'd get a portrait that wiped back to that sunset default, but otherwise it worked well. I saved the portraits as custom paintings, so if a wipe occurred I'd just have the owner paint it again.

If it's a bug, it's a new one. I get the Adventurer career fairly commonly...although if you have all exp. packs there are 20 careers to choose from, and only 3 in the paper, so it could be an exceptionally bad case of sadorandomness. For starters, enable boolProp and shift-click on the paper. Click "Adult Jobs" and cycle through. Do you see Adventurer?

While I do appreciate that everyone has their own opinions, I made these for my own use and decided to share. I won't be changing them. I like them as is.
EDIT: Gah, the above could be construed as bitchy, which was not my intent. Basically, I'm not looking to make these perfect. I want some imperfection in my sims, hence template #19, who is the fixed version of the sim who was the freak toddler. I was playing with the baby-making tool and just loved how silly that one came out. I'm not trying to compete with anyone else. I love that other people like these and will use them, but first and foremost they are what I want in my game. I don't really do the whole request-like thing unless it's inspiring (aka the quad dorm concept). That wasn't even a request, just more me butting in and saying "oooh, me make pretty!"

These are quite a nice variation ![Smiley](/smf/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Question: Doesn't Cper #21 and Csla #25 have only the adult templates, and revert to #01 with other ages? Every template has a toddler to elder. ![Huh](/smf/Smileys/default/huh.gif) Eh, those templates only have the vanilla file and not the LOD contained within the package file. At least, that is how they were in Alien ABQ's extracted templates. It's just the toddler and the elder stages that are affected. SaraMK, I've reuploaded the 1-15 template .rar. Faces 5 & 6 were behaving correctly in my game, but I had initially messed up the 5 & 6 adult female faces my third try around, but had thought I fixed it before I uploaded. The two faces are very different from each other, so I trust that if you noticed that they were the same, I hadn't done what I remembered doing. I'm not known for my memory. I just tried these out and they're not bad. They aren't on the level of Nailati's but they're step up from Maxis.
I really like Nailati's a lot, but I prefer a bit of a different look. I like for a few of my sims to be bit odd looking, but none of those crappy sunken cheeks or huge honker noses Maxis likes to throw at us. I swear I'll do a photo without Enayla's skintones very very soon, it just hasn't been high on the priority list! EDIT: Done, in first post. Also switched around the male/female order since I only had pics of one sex.

Zazazu, I used to use conglomerate community lots, but after OFB they got laggy. After Seasons, they got impossible; it was just painful to watch a sim take a half-a-real-world-hour to get to the terlet. Is there anything in Visitor Controller to limit the number of sims allowed on a community lot? I went and looked but if that is a feature, he didn't mention in the post.
I feel your pain, I used to run Sims2 on a laptop that technically didn't meet the specs, but I somehow got it up to Nightlife. I only do a conglomerate downtown...and it's my only lot there now. It's not necessary, though...just personal taste. Basically, you should have at least one community lot downtown for invited outings & dates, and it can either be some huge everything-in-one 5x6, or a phone booth on a 1x1. Whenever my sims get a want to meet someone new or flirt with some non-specific person, I make them go out of the house that day. Where they go depends on their highest interests. Enviro/Outside ones go to a garden, Paranormal ones go to the graveyard, Food ones go to a restaurant, Games ones to arcades, etc.

You have to add and set the relationship type to every family member under the relationships tab of the Sim Description and you have to do it again for 'immeadiate' family - mum, dad, siblings in the Family Ties panel. The Sim Description/Relationships panel sets the family bond between the Sims while the Family Ties panel builds the actual tree that you see when you click on the special icon under the relationships panel in the game. Thanks Madame Mim, I was having issues because I'd somehow forgotten about the Family Ties panel. Fawn found herself an orphan when everyone else in her household died in a pool-meets-lightning accident on her uncle Edge's birthday. The social worker took her overnight, while Charisma the Freak moved in the house. When Charisma adopted her, her great grand aunt was suddenly mommie. (More like mommie dearest). Fixed now.
