3426  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: May "More Awful Than You": Buttugly Brokeass Furniture on: 2007 June 04, 16:14:12
I had a book recently from the library, it was a compilation of the legends that supposedly inspired Tolkein's works. Unfortunately I didn't get round to reading it and can't remember it's title.
I hadn't read Tolkien before I saw NeverEnding Story. I saw NeverEnding Story when I was around six. I tried The Hobbit the first time around seven/eight. Actually, technically, I haven't read through any Tolkien at all. Not that he's bad or anything, he's just very descriptive and I prefer more of a balance between dialog and description in my entertainment reads. One of these days I'll buckle down and try again, because they are pivotal works in the genre.
3427  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: In the Beginning Challenge! on: 2007 June 04, 16:05:26
Unless the OP is the person who first posted this on the BBS, this is not an original challenge. It's also very old, and...well...BBS original, explaining the focus on DAC and the Exchange.

Change to using clean templates and CAS, plus moving sims to a suburb, and it's ok. Just not really along the lines of a challenge. It's a complete playstyle. To play through 30 generations of as many families you will get from this challenge will take years, even for the most obsessive of us (and I'm looking in the proverbial mirror).

For history:

3428  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, one of my sims isn't aging on: 2007 June 03, 22:28:12
How about "always move sims out and remove hacks before packaging a lot"? I just neglected that (stupid) and then realized that my lot contained files for the family's 25 friends, other randoms they've met, and don't forget family members to the nth generation plus all the custom content these members had...and the phone hack. Then, I went into the original lot and found that I couldn't go into live mode without the game crashing (no errors came up). Yeah. Bad.
3429  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB_Restocking bakery problem on: 2007 June 03, 22:22:28
Heehee. My one best friend works in a bakery, on cakes. I hear plenty of bitching about having to lug layers around...up stairs, down stairs. So yeah. Culinary = physical job.
3430  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Nearly 5 Million Simolineons Disappeared on: 2007 June 03, 22:19:41
Clicking on the lot will give you gross worth (counting house value). So write that down, then enter the lot and go into build mode. Hit the blue circle (can't remember the icon) in the upper left corner. That gives you the current house value. Subtract that from the number you had before.
3431  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Cboy's Penis Creature Skins on: 2007 June 03, 18:37:18
Heee hee, I feel your pain. My second attempt at face templates, I didn't pay attention to which file was the LOD and which was the vanilla one, and ended up with melting sims. Kept a headmaster around like that for poking purposes.

I wouldn't think that anyone who clicks on a link that says "penis" would be against seeing pics of such. However, you are forgiven since you called them "naughty bits" and that makes me giggle.
3432  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jun "More Awful Than You": Stupidass Houses! on: 2007 June 03, 17:54:57
As hideous as most of these lots are, I nominate the insiduous. The gorgeous lots that will crash your computer to smithereens and are impossible to play due to horrible lag. And yup, they typically can be identified by their "featured" status.

13-level apartment house with wall-to-wall windows, fully furnished for even more lag

Only five levels, but a huge lot, again chock full of windows and items. Plus, I hate most water terrain paints. Too unrealistic

Ok, I love HP, too, but this is going a bit far. Again, too many levels, too large of a lot, too many items. Lagtastic. And if that isn't enough, the design is so inefficient it would take an hour real-time for a sim to get from the mailbox to their bed.

A computer to go next to your toilet. Actually, I really like this one.
3433  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB_Restocking bakery problem on: 2007 June 03, 17:20:05
You know, it's probably possible to settle this argument simply by making it possible to automatically cut up a cake from inventory, so you can make your cake in 6-packs and still sell it one piece at a time to annoy your sims.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Seems like the people who are complaining about the desserts have two main issues: a) having to make six servings of ANYTHING when only one is actually desired is annoying, and b) the game doesn't handle breaking group meals into single plates well, because Sims want to stuff their faces allthedamntime.
Who wants to make only one serving at a time? Considering that it would take the same amount of time to cook, it's inefficient. That's why I haven't downloaded the current hack. That's always why I never do Make...Single Plate. If Make...Single Plate yielded 6 servings to inventory, now that would be shiny.

Invisigoth, I'm aware of how coffee shops make coffee cakes and other items. I was stating that I've yet to buy a whole coffeecake at a coffee shop. 'Cause they don't sell them that way. 'Cause most people don't want a whole one every day, ya know?
3434  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jun "More Awful Than You": Stupidass Houses! on: 2007 June 03, 05:10:22
Who wouldn't want to live in a toilet?
SWEET. That is DEFINITELY the house for Sim-Brynne!
Heeehee. Unfortunately, my grilled cheese zombies are already being tortured by having to live in the House of Brie and the House of Swiss (yup, shaped like cheese wedges). Otherwise that would be a great option.

Oh, and I want that egg house. Seriously. With the chickens. My neighborhood's on crack already. All-knowing mimes living in a phone booth, eleven GCZ's stealing papers to hoard in their houses of cheese, a cheerleader who beats the crap out of everyone she meets, children who turn into maniacal murders later on because they were scared too badly when plummeting in an elevator....yeah. The house would fit right in.
3435  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Nearly 5 Million Simolineons Disappeared on: 2007 June 03, 00:09:46
It's probably a display issue. I just added approximately 10 mil to my current family from the neighborhood screen. It displays as 10+ mil from the neighborhood, but about 9.5 mil while playing the lot.

Now to take 10 mil away from my poor simmies...

*smacks self*
Six, not eight. I've only been playing this game from day one, but apparently I can't count. Still, they'd be heavy.
3437  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Flirt = Affair? Wtf? on: 2007 June 02, 17:20:37
ACR lets you set sexual orientation....you can set what you want, or make it randomize. I randomize my non-heirs. Of course, it adds all the other fun of the hack, which you may or may not want.
3438  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Flirt = Affair? Wtf? on: 2007 June 02, 02:45:46
Ooooh, so that's why I need Romance mod. K, you've convinced me.
3439  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Greater LTW Variety & Sanity on: 2007 June 02, 00:27:05
TotalNeighborhoodLinkedPopulation = only playables or...
TotalNeighborhoodLinkedPopulation = all character files (including npc's, townies)
?
3440  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB_Restocking bakery problem on: 2007 June 02, 00:05:38
I've yet to go to Starbucks and buy a whole coffee cake to go with my iced raspberry coffee.
3441  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, one of my sims isn't aging on: 2007 June 02, 00:01:53
Well... technically, you could already do that anyways.  Just stock up on Elixir and have one sim out live the rest of em. Grin
Or use your cowplant to drink them all, then find that the fridge is empty and cake sounds awfully good.  Shocked
3442  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Request, nay Demand! for a new FAQ on: 2007 June 01, 23:56:58
Orphaned sim wants & fears, corrupted memories of sims who have met the binned sims. Etc.

This would be lovely, plus ... we need somewhere that either links to the hack descriptions for the Director's Cut is published, or they should be shoved in with the Director's Cut. Some aren't so easy to search out.
3443  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Flirt = Affair? Wtf? on: 2007 June 01, 23:52:18
I understand getting the affair memory if your playable initiates the flirting action, directed or not. However, getting the memory when a townie does it? Huh-what? It isn't Francis's problem that Eva Cooper, who he's just hung out with a couple times, grabs him to make out with him.
3444  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jun "More Awful Than You": Stupidass Houses! on: 2007 June 01, 23:45:56
Nope, bet you a hundred they're rather awful terrain paints of flowers. I had too many to count from there that looked great from the posted image but were disgustingly oversized in game.

TSR....oh how I love to hate thee. I used to contribute there, but they threw back all of my lots because they had too much custom content (well, that's granted, though why they waited several months to do so is beyond me) but they approve craptastic stuff like that. Plus, paysite mumble mumble.
3445  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB_Restocking bakery problem on: 2007 June 01, 18:08:49
How do you put them in the inventory?
Bring up the cheat console, enter "moveObjects on", then click on the sim's inventory. Grab item, drag to inventory or press I.

Actually grabbing the things can be tricky. Top-down view tends to help.
3446  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jun "More Awful Than You": Stupidass Houses! on: 2007 June 01, 15:16:23
It's not awful, but it's typical (read: crap). I took the "so much ROOM" comment without sarcasm. There's barely any furniture, but it's swimming in empty, unused, inefficient space. And it's not pretty, which means it sucks.

I currently have a family of six in an 8x8 three story home. It's pretty, it has three bathrooms/three bedrooms/nursery/living-dining, and no stomping pissy sims blocked from getting around stuff to date...at nearly the end of the second generation.

Li'l didn't show the outside. Wood panelling with a few floor-to-ceiling windows and a completely unembellished flat roof? Ew.
3447  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: RandomStuff: Configurable "dice rolling" program on: 2007 June 01, 02:02:31
Hey Denimjo, Li'l Brudder, et al:
How exactly are you using these random occurences? Do you have a system to it?
3448  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Zazazu's face replacements on: 2007 June 01, 01:56:25
Some may try to deny it, but oh, no: legacy spouses are little more than genetic donors that my Sims order from the matchmaker. (Yes, I'll take one Marylena Hamilton with a Dagmar Bertino and a side of red-cardigan downtownie. No, hold the goopy.)
It's worse with the Alphabet Challenge. I rarely get much of a choice. Right now, I have to go with Gray as my heir because the male G townies/dormies are fugly, and the one female is...well....template #10. There are several letters that I only have one non-elder female choice for. Negative chemistry? Too bad! Luckily, my townies are either from Selzi's templates or mine, so no Goopies.
3449  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: May "More Awful Than You": Buttugly Brokeass Furniture on: 2007 June 01, 01:50:01
Very, very late, but anyway...

What use do these things have in the game? They're ugly, and look very high poly too.

<Numenorean statues image snipped>

I guess if someone was doing a LOTR themed neighbourhood they'd be useful as neighbourhood decorations.  I have seen LOTR terrains somewhere.  I agree with your assessment of them, they do look kinda ugly, and the edges are too crisp.  They don't look as weather-beaten as ancient statues should.
Actually, they remind me more of NeverEnding Story. I remember the first time I watched LOTR, I was pissed that they'd ripped them off. However, they are decidedly uncool as I see no mention of blinding rays of death.
3450  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Custom paintings and moving / inventory on: 2007 May 31, 20:25:43
Nice to see you again, Pegasys.

I haven't tried moving portraits with the inventory but I did have one custom portrait still on the easel and when that Sim died, the portrait vanished.

Quite a crappy thing to happen if you're trying to preserve some family history.

It's necromancy, ZiggyDoodle. The thread is from early 2006.

This is why necromancy is bad.
